@getjazzy: wow! That is a good looking chair, especially for one that fully reclines. Where's it from? Thanks for the insight! I think we'll use ours a lot too but am now thinking I might wait to buy it until after baby is here. At what point did you buy yours?
@ohcaptain: thanks for sharing your experience. That is a good point to wait until after baby is here. We are definitely going to try to exclusively breast feed but I also know I should remain flexible cause who knows! I'm going to try to wait until after baby is here, but I think I'm easily prone to the nesting hormones... I get so excited thinking about the nursery!
@buttermilk: yes! I saw that west elm sale on the exact glider, but I couldn't pull the trigger and am now having regret. The only new furniture we have in our house is a $60 office chair from ikea - everything else is vintage or from Craigslist or family. Can I blame "nesting hormones" for making me crazy about this chair?? Haha. I may try to wait until after baby comes, like oh captain says, and then if I still want it and haven't bought anything else yet, I'll go for it. Thanks for the tips! And good luck on your ultrasound tomorrow!!

@LauraBear: I don't think you HAVE to wait, I just know the chair I had (a non rocking recliner) ended up not being supportive/comfortable for me. It was a chair we already had, and I thought for sure it would be fine. For me, I don't think I'd buy a chair with out the chance to sit in it.

@LauraBear: Make sure you find out how long it takes to get it once you buy it. The one we planned to get last time was going to take 8 weeks, which could be a long time to wait once LO is here. And our mattress that we bought recently was only supposed to take 2 weeks, but wound up being over 6 because of shipping delays. I personally wouldn't wait till after the baby arrived. But we bought our glider weeks ago, which was way early, so clearly I'm impatient on these things. And we did spend more on it than anything else, but I expect to be using it a LOT, so I wanted one I really loved.

@LauraBear: I just got back from ikea where I boght their Poang rocking chair for now. We need furniture for the nursery that we can assemble in room so we had to go with IKEA. I'm gonna cover it with a big sheepskin throw and I have a cute floor pillow from target so hopefully it looks good! We cleared the room yesterday and are painting today.
And I had my first stranger recognize the belly today! The IKEA cashier wouldn't let me carry the chair out to my car (I was alone) bc I'm pregnant so they had someone help me. Made me smile! Thank god this taco belly is starting to look more like a real bump!

@Buttermilk that's awesome that someone recognized your belly but I'm also jealous!! We went to Disney on Saturday (perks of living close) and we got our pic taken with Donald. I asked to get a pic with him pointing to my belly. The lady taking our picture said "oh, you must have just found out, you're so small," and I said, "no, I'm almost 18 weeks and it's a boy."
But, this morning I woke up and I'm HUGE. Although, it really feels a lot like bloating/distension, not baby, so I think maybe something I ate? LOL.
@Mrs. RV thinking of you for good results on your test! I am still waiting on the results of my MaterniT21 genetic testing too since they found an abnormality in the bowel on my u/s. I know how nerve wracking it is.
Next OB appointment is Wednesday for me, they are usually super quick though. Dread getting weighed, I have been SO HUNGRY and this weekend I think I might have gained 5 lbs from eating all the unhealthy food.

@LauraBear: Ours is by Dutalier, I got it at a local mom and pop type store and we ended up getting it about 2 or so months before baby arrived? It was a great deal because they were clearing out the previous model year so we jumped on it. I agree that initially you probably won't need it unless baby is sleeping in it's room/crib. Our babe slept in our room so I would nurse in my bed and not go all the way to the nursery at night.
Good luck to the mamas having their anatomy scans today!

@MrsADS: Oh man well I'm jealous that you went to disney! We used to live in Florida and I am a huge fan. I'm still able to hide the bump depending on what I'm wearing, and I can still technically button all my pants but OMG F that I'm never taking these maternity leggings off! And the crap I ate this week, oh my! A digiorno pizza, buffalo chicken dip, a bagel, Taco Bell, a Wendy's frosty, an IKEA hot dog!? All I can say is thank god I'm taking prenatal vitamins.

@Ms. RV: thinking of you!@buttermilk: I bought the Poang for LO 2!

@buttermilk: Love the Poang chairs. You may never need anything more than that!

@LauraBear: @getjazzy: we have a Dutalier rocker/glider that we bought on Craigslist. We started with my mom's wooden rocker that she used with me, but it was incredibly uncomfortable to sit in, so DH bought me the Dutalier for Christmas that year. By that point, I had gotten so used to nursing him in bed that that's what I mostly did, but we use it so much now for bedtime ritual. BTW, he was in his nursery from day 3 home (it's mere feet from our room), so a rocker/glider was key right away.

Goober has been kicking like crazy the last few days. This week/last week, I've had several days of morning nausea/thinking I was going to throw up, so I wonder if morning sickness is coming back. I hope not!!!

@Buttermilk I definitely can't button my pants anymore. And your diet sounds like mine... you can only guess what I ate at a weekend at Disney! LOL.

I forgot to update after my 20 week scan on this .. I'm now googling it (ugh! Why?!) and starting to worry. The tech noted that my placenta was forming either on or near my CS scar. There's still time that it could move as my uterus grows and stretches but of course when I looked it up, all the worst case scenarios came up and now I'm freaked out. I hope it's all ok but depending on how it turns out, it could mean goodbye VBAC attempt. Which, in the grand scheme of what I read can happen, is not a big deal AT ALL.
cherry / 211 posts
@getjazzy: Oh no! My OB warned me of this possibility when I was inquiring about the risks of multiple c-sections. I had a CS with my first and am trying to decide if I want to attempt a VBAC or not. Is this your second? I hope your placenta moves!!

Ugh I got behind on the thread again. I had a great anatomy scan last week. We got to see a lot and it confirmed the girl from the Harmony test. However, since I'm 41 I've earned a ticket to a monthly growth scan at the MFM office. They are also a bit concerned about the baby's size as it's only in the 30% range and they want at least 50%.. I also have a vascular fibroid that has grown, they don't think it will bother the baby or cause delivery issues but could cause me pain. I'm trying not to worry. My mom is like will maybe you can get a hysterectomy afterwards but I don't know. We are done after this baby but i'm not sure about surgery. I think they would try other things first. My mom had a hysterectomy at 32 but not for fibroids.
It seems like August is coming so fast some days. I don't know how I'll get everything I need to done..
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: This is my second, yep. A lot of the really bad horror stories talked about hysterectomy but, that was only when the placenta penetrated outside of the uterine wall completely which is an extreme case. Since this is my second, that wouldn't be too awful if it was a life or death situation but we were toying with the idea of a 3rd and it would just suck to have to go through that at child brith. The tech didn't even confirm that it was in fact over my scar she just said forming somewhat anterior so she would note it in the report and have my OB evaluate. I know I'm probably worrying prematurely but it's hard to help it! Note to self and everyone else, forget about Dr. Google.
@kayakgirl73: Did the fibroids bother you before pregnancy? If it didn't cause you too much grief, I don't know if I would opt for an elective hysterectomy. It could very well be something that flares up for a bit during pregnancy and then goes back down to an unnoticeable level afterwards? I hope it stays somewhat at bay for you so you don't have to suffer!
I do agree that August is coming up so quickly! I'm assuming it's the toddler at home but jeeze, time is just escaping me!

@getjazzy: my friend who delivered in January had this! She is fine, and her son is fine. DO NOT GOOGLE about it, it will scare you. My friend had her RCS at 37 weeks because baby stopped growing at 32wks, which was her major complication. She was told a third baby is not out of the question, but her OB would have to have a discussion prior to TTC. Both my friend and her son are happy and healthy!
kiwi / 696 posts
@getjazzy: aaaHHHHH!!!. My Placenta is anterior and my midwife didn't mention it in relation to my c-section scar at all. I'll take your advice and not google it, as I'm also hoping for a VBAC. Of course a RCS is preferable to any major complications, but does an anterior placenta automatically mean it's by your scar? Maybe it can move up at your uterus expands. Must not google, must not google.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: That is comforting!! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure there are varying degrees of severity if the placenta even did attach there.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@OhCaptain: No!! Definitely doesn't mean it will be an issue. I think they say anterior for the entire "front" section, where your scar only affects a few inches really low down. Of all the things I've read, tons of them said your placenta can keep migrating well in to the 30s in terms of weeks so even if it was sort of in the area right not, doesn't mean it's permanently there or worse, that it's attached outside of the uterine wall. I'm sure none of us need to worry, it's a fairly rare occurrence.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@buttermilk: I'm a bit jealous you can still button your pants at all. I'm definitely 100% in maternity pants at this point!
@MrsADS: Isn't it weird how your belly seems to change size so randomly?! Some days I feel like I don't look very pregnant at all, and others I fell huge. And there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind it!
Possible good news! We may be able to go on a cruise, just a week later than we'd planned, and a day or two shorter. DH has been regretting agreeing to cancel it so quickly (it wouldn't have cost us any more to cancel a day or two later, but he did it immediately), and he said his boss felt bad, because he didn't realize I couldn't go on a cruise later (20 weeks right now, so I only have basically 2 more weeks that I can go). So when things started to look like they might be settling down a little at work, he agreed to ask his boss about rescheduling. Boss said no way initially, but apparently today changed his mind. I'm very hopeful! We've been having a really hard time finding somewhere we want to go in May, and a cruise is by far the best choice. (DH has been worried about being bored at the beach, I've been worried about getting too worn out somewhere that requires a lot of walking like San Francisco, DH thinks he'll get sucked into working on his laptop if we're somewhere he can, etc. Cruise takes care of all those things.) So fingers are crossed!
One other thing, I have a cousin that was legit one of those "I didn't know I was pregnant" women. She found out somewhere around 36 weeks. (They don't know exactly, but she had her daughter around 4 weeks later, so that's a good guess.) And I'm just finding it harder and harder to figure out how that was possible. Like right now, my belly is really sensitive to pressure. If one of my dogs steps on it, it hurts (and they're little dogs). If I felt like this and didn't know I was pregnant, I would go to the doctor! How did she manage to miss SO many different symptoms?! So weird to me.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Torchwood: great news about the cruise! Fx! I used to wonder if I would have known I was preg if I'd had a history of irregular periods, but I'm pretty sure the peeing every 30 mins would def give it away at this point!
@kayakgirl73: I agree, we are halfway there!

Soooo...
Anatomy scan went great! Baby is very healthy and they saw zero complications. I had a transvag scan too to check my cervix and the techs were commenting on how beautiful my cervix was. "Cervix of steel!" Lol!!!
And... It's a girl!!!!!!
We are the most beyond thrilled! No girls on DH's side of the fam so OMG I'm so excited!

@buttermilk: hi baby! Congrats on the girl!! Hopefully your 'cervix of steel' opens to let baby girl out in another 20wks! How funny!

@buttermilk: congrats on a healthy girl!!
I had my anatomy scan today and we are having a boy !! We are so excited since we are only planning to have two kids and having one of each is pretty great. DH was sure we were having another girl so I think he was pretty shocked (in a good way, of course).
The less exciting news is that there are a couple of things they saw-- hopefully nothing to be too worried about. In the initial set of pictures, part of the left kidney (the part that opens to the urethra) was measuring slightly larger than is normal. In addition, they saw a "bright spot" on part of the heart. Apparently the location of the "bright spot" is not uncommon and is not an indicator of a defect or anything...but taken together both of these things could suggest a slightly higher risk for downs syndrome. But they stressed that these are "soft markers" and all the really important markers (earlier blood screens, NT scan, nose bridge, etc.) looked fine. She re-looked at the kidney while we were there (since she said that it was so borderline it could have been because he was peeing) and sure enough it measured within the the normal range. They did offer to do either the MaterniT21 or an amnio to give us more definitive results....even though my risk is still something like 1 in 5,000 with the bright spot on the heart, we decided to do the MaterniT21 for what I hope will be peace of mind.
In addition (cause those things weren't enough)....where the umbilical cord inserts into the placenta is really off center (like 1 cm from the edge of the placenta or something). And while that in and of itself isn't normally an issue, there were some growth restriction concerns with my DD (I ended up being induced right before my due date) so they are going to be extra cautious this time (since any closer to the edge might mean risk of growth restriction and/or pre-term labor) and have me come in for at least 2 more growth scans. So I'll do another one in 5 weeks.
I am trying to focus on all the positives here and realize that this is in all likelihood just being extra careful but was definitely thrown for a loop during my appointment. Especially frustrated that my placentas seem to be problematic every time!!

@abmamma: I'm sorry that there were so many little concerns... I bet you will get tons of reassurance from the Materniti21 testing and extra scans!

At one of my ultrasounds, the tech told me that my uterus was huge and I was like "Uhhh thanks?" lol. I'm just going to assume its because my LO was almost 9 lbs and he stretched me like crazy and it wasn't that long ago (he's 16 months)... Weird!
