    @kjpugs: Yes, that would be tough! Because I am only on my first I don't know the feeling of being able to compare! My friend is on her third, and felt movement earlier with her other one with no AP. She was shocked to learn no AP on this one because she had felt no movement, but luckily, she learned that at the anatomy scan, so she was able to be reassured that everything was fine at the same time!!

    @kjpugs: I was right where you are a couple weeks ago! I had consistent movement last time by 17 weeks, even with an anterior placenta. This time, I felt early movement at 13 weeks, but nothing consistent for a loooong time and I don't have an anterior placenta.

    I'm 19w3d and just in the past week or so, I've started feeling him kick pretty regularly. Hang in there!!

    @KJpugs glad you posted this, I am getting antsy about wanting to feel movement too! I'm 17 weeks and nothing. I do have an anterior placenta so I'm guessing it will be a while, plus it's my first baby. Sooo... I'm hoping a little while means a week or two and not another month!!

    The MFM also told me I have low lying placenta... basically not quite placenta previa but almost, my placenta isn't covering my cervix, but apparently it's only 1 cm away and it's supposed to be at least 3? I don't know. So I'm wondering if that may be impacting feeling or not feeling movement.

    @kjpugs: it's so hard not to worry! I do have anterior placenta this time, and while I've been feeling movement for a while, it's not consistent and I'm 20w3d. During my ultrasound baby kicked And moved and I saw it and felt nothing. Surprisingly the day I felt the most movement was when I had a stomach bug, and had barely anything to eat. Maybe she was mad I wasn't feeding her.

    @Torchwood: I'm glad you get to stick with the midwives. Hope everything goes smoothly with your pregnancy.

    @Mrs. Microscope: Ouch! Sorry to hear your back is bothering you

    @Ms. RV: Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that

    @MrsADS: I gained back the weight I lost from the first trimester, so I think that was about 8 or 9 pounds. So I'm back at my pre-pregnancy weight. With my last pregnancy I gained more than I wanted to, although I lost it all within a few months, but I'm trying to stay in the healthy range this time.

    @MrsADS: I had a low-lying placenta with my first pregnancy. It thankfully moved to a good location before the baby was born, which they usually do I'm told. I think it does affect being able to feel movement, especially it being anterior.

    Dh and I are struggling to come up with a boy name we both agree on. I had a few girl names picked out that I liked, but since it's a boy, I feel stuck. I used my favorite boy name on my son and my second favorite boy name as his middle name. Probably should have saved it in case I had another boy.

    Omfg. I am so furious I could just scream! DH is probably going to have to cancel our cruise. One of his coworkers quit, and apparently all of his shit is totally screwed up, but since he's gone they can't make him fix it. So DH will be back on 80+ hour weeks until it's fixed, and he can't take any vacation time. This has been booked since November! And it's not like he's been home much in that time; he's been working his ass off for them! I told him I'm done with this. if they make him cancel this vacation, he needs to start looking for another job, now. He works as much as he does because it pays well, so that we can afford things like nice vacations. We don't need the money if he's never home to enjoy it. We'll see what happens.

    @Ms. RV: hugs, thinking of you.

    @lilteacherbee: I haven't felt any kicks yet but only 16.5 weeks. I can't wait!

    @Torchwood: that sucks sorry!

    @Ms. RV: Hope everything goes well on Friday! Will keep you in my thoughts.

    @aprild: We struggled with boys names when I was pregnant and it didn't get easier when DS was born and we actually HAD to use one of them. This time around we are yet again stuck on boys names. Hoping it's a girl so I don't have to deal with that again.

    @Torchwood: That's so frustrating!! I hope at the very least if they are making him work insane hours anyway that they let him keep his vacation. Can he tell them it's already booked and non-refundable?

    Finally booked my anatomy scan.. I'm late doing it because I turned 20 weeks on monday. I will be 20w3 days when I get it but I was so busy with overtime at work and actively searching for a place that would allow DH in the room the whole time. But, I'm glad it's booked! I've been feeling super consistent and very strong baby movements for 2 days now. It literally seemed to come out of nowhere because before that I was only feeling extremely light and inconsistent flutters. Guess baby must have had a growth spurt or something. Like my first though, baby gets stage fright when DH tries to feel so I'm not sure yet if you can feel it from the outside.

    @getjazzy: They're paying the (almost $1000) cancellation fee for us. We would have told them no otherwise. It's just so damn frustrating because this is literally our last chance to go on a cruise, just us, for the next several years. I'll be too far along in a couple weeks, and we won't leave LO for that long until she's quite a bit older. We're looking to do something for our anniversary in May, but it will have to be closer to home. DH suggested Scotland, because we love it, but I don't feel comfortable going overseas at almost 30 weeks. Maybe if I didn't have the SCH, but not with it. I'm thinking FL keys? Beach, nicer than Gulf Shores or something, but not too far? I don't lnow. The only good thing is he's pretty much holding this over his manager's head from now on, so if they try to make him work too much once LO is here, he's going to tell them to get the hell over it.

    @Ms. RV: Thinking of you. I hope all this is nothing.

    @Torchwood: That is super frustrating. I hope you don't have to cancel your trip. My DH used to have a job that required him to work ridiculous hours (including nights sometimes, which totally messed with his health). When DS was about 4 months old he quit that job and took another one even though it meant a slight pay cut. Now he works standard business hours (for the most part) and has way more flexibility when it comes to taking time off, etc. We obviously don't have quite as much money, but the quality of our family life is SOOOO much better and he is way happier. Finding the balance between income and work demands/hours that give you the best possible quality of life is definitely something to consider!

    We had our anatomy scan yesterday and everything looks good. We also found out we are having a girl!! That means we will have one of each. DH is so anxious about having a girl; it's very sweet.

    @kjpugs: My doctor didn't seem too concerned about movement until at least 20 weeks.

    @torchwood: That sucks! We were considering taking a cruise as well but decided against it because I haven't been feeling well lately. I know it being our own decision makes it easier to deal with. We are now looking at the Omni resort on Amelia Island. It's just across the state line into Florida, so not a bad drive. We can also stop over or take a day trip to Savannah or St. Simons.

    I am still struggling with this darn back injury. It originally happened several years ago, but I did something last week that triggered it again. I've been to the chiropractor a couple of times so far. I felt like I was making progress over the weekend, but then I had a very rough day/night yesterday. I feel like I'm back to ground zero and then some. The problem is that sitting seems to aggravate it, and the only way to feel better is to lay down. Of course, I can't get any work or anything done around the house laying down, and I don't want to use all my vacation time this early on. My back also hurts too bad to sit with my feet propped up, so my feet have been swelling like crazy. I have another chiropractor's appointment tonight. My husband said that if this one doesn't help, he wants me to think about seeing a "real" doctor, but I'm not even sure what kind of doctor I'd see. I also have an appointment with my asthma doctor in the morning and our anatomy scan on Monday (which is a happy appointment), so it feels like all I do lately is hurt and go see doctors...

    @Torchwood: It's terrible that they can force you to cancel like that. Like you said, it's never going to be just the two of you again and now they are going to be forcing you to make a decision about leaving little one.

    @Mrs.Scientist: CONGRATS!!! Another little girl for the group

    @Mrs.Scientist: we had the same sort of situation. When my first was born my husband was working a ton 6:00am-7:00pm and on Saturdays half a day. It was really tough as a first time SAHM with no family (and no friends we moved for the job when I was pregnant). When our baby was 4 months old he got a promotion within the company (and another move) now he works more normal hours yet travels 25% of the time and it's way better for our family.

  16. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

    @Mrs.Scientist: The problem is that quitting wouldn't mean a small pay cut. Best case scenario, we'd be looking at probably a $40,000 pay cut, which is a significant chunk of our income, and given that he gets paid for all this overtime, it would likely be quite a bit more. It's not impossible, but with a LO on the way it would be tough. I feel very spoiled saying that, since there are so many people who don't even make $40,000/year to begin with, but it really is a lot of money to give up, in addition to the fact that he's getting a promotion. Like I saif, he plans to hold this over their heads if they try to make him work too much once LO is here, so we'll see how that goes. In the meantime he'll at least casually be looking for something different.

    @Mrs. J: Oh I thought you were for sure team green? We were.. or at least I think so? Last night DH asked me if I still wanted to not find out. I didn't think to ask if he was second guessing the idea or not but now I'm not sure! I will need to double check with him before the scan tomorrow.

    @getjazzy: we were, but this *might* be our last, so if it's not a girl, we are more likely to go for a third. I'm so torn!

    @Mrs. J: That's 100% our situation too! In wondering if it would be better to have the "it's a.....!" moment in the delivery room if it is in fact a girl? On the other hand, it would be fun to experience knowing in advance too.

    Maybe if we are unsure I should get them to write it down and then we can open it if we eventually decide we need to know? So tough.

    @Torchwood: what a bummer. Hopefully you guys can go to an amazing resort in Florida in may!

    @krispi: I had my first chiro appointment today and it was amazing! She only does pregnancy cases so I feel very safe with what she is doing. She also put me on a pregnancy safe anti inflammatory to reduce pain.

    @Mrs.Scientist: yay for a girl!

    @Mrs. J: @buttermilk: @getjazzy: I find out one week from today! No team green for me, I HAVE to know!

    Well, the good news is that it's looking like DH made the right call by canceling. Shit is apparently REALLY hitting the fan, and he doesn't need that perception that he wasn't willing to do his part, even if it's BS. And he doesn't need to be out of town where he could get blamed for things and not be there to defend himself. This is actually good, because it means I'm not mad at him, just at his boss and the guy who quit and left them in this mess. It's easier to deal with being upset when it's at least not divisive.

    So I guess I'm done complaining for now. It sucks, but I'm getting pretty much free reign on picking where we go in May, so I'll just focus on having fun planning that. And planning my baby party, which DH is so not allowed to get annoyed about the cost of now!

  28. getjazzy

    persimmon / 1179 posts

    @buttermilk: Pretty much. I guess for me personally, besides picking a name and having gender appropriate clothing ready to go, there's no real difference in knowing in advance or not. If my labour is as long again as it was last time, I will probably need something to motivate me to get through and finding out gender is pretty good at doing that!

    @Torchwood: Sorry to hear about the cruise, but I hope you find a good alternative vacation in May!

    I have been thinking about names all day, since it really bugs me if I don't have a favorite name ready to go. With my son, I had his name picked out and had things personalized for him as soon as I found out he was a boy. I like being able to call them by name before they come out.

    Anyway, I think my top two names so far are Nathaniel and Zachary. I like longer names, since DH has a short last name. Plus, I want something that will sound good with my son's name, which is also a three syllable name.

    @buttermilk: I loved that hospital moment, and I just thought it was such a cool surprise, you know? We would have done a gender neutral nursery no matter what, but it helped to not be influenced.

    @raspberries: it's a little chili pepper costume. It's basically a red bunting that has green satin leaves around the neck and green satin hat for the stem. It's a 0-3 month, and hoping it's big enough!

    Ok, I think I found a boy's name that I like more than the others I've been considering. The name is Lachlan. It's not too common, and it sounds good with our last name and with my son's name (since I figure I'll be saying them together a lot). Does anyone know a Lachlan? If so, do they like their name?
