Hi moms! it's been a while since i posted. My husband got the flu and then I ended up with it! I am almost 17 weeks pregnant and STILL so nauseous and throwing up Anyone else struggling ? With my first pregnancy, I was so much better by 14 weeks. Also, when did y'all start to feel the baby move? I'm hoping to feel better soon but the days seem long. I find out in 1 week if it's a boy or girl! yay!

Hello ladies! I think I've been feeling baby the past few days (week 19) ... It sort of feels like how a bubble would feel popping in my lower belly. Like a "blub blub" feeling? And I'm getting super impatient for my anatomy scan on the 24th ... I can't wait to find out if it's a girl or a boy! (Still REALLY hoping for a girl, though. Really, really.) And DH says I can start buying for baby after we find out the sex! Weeeeeee!

@mommygrace: I started feeling the baby at 16 weeks. And now at 18.5, I still only feel it if I'm sitting or laying down at home and relaxing. Maybe try spending an hour in bed before you fall asleep and see if you feel anything?

Yesterday I saw movement from the outside!
And I was feeling baby a good 2-3 inches higher than usual, I guess that's why my bump is finally poppin out!

@Mizhi: yeah that's what it felt like for me too! I've also been waiting to buy anything til the scan - can't wait! FX for you, I'm hoping for a girl too (secretly)

Are any of you ladies planning to go on a baby moon? We had already scheduled a trip to New Orleans for the end of April, so I think that's going to end up being ours. I just bought flights - I've never been and can't wait!

@raspberries: that sounds great! we really want to, but are also trying to save as much as we can before baby comes so I think we may go somewhere we can drive to like cape cod. Although we have birthig classes every Sunday of June so that leaves July - and idk if I'm comfortable driving 7 hours when I'm 35-36 Wks. Midwife thought it would be fine but idk!

@raspberries: Oh, New Orleans is one of my favorite places in the world! In fact, DH and I had our wedding AND took a mini-babymoon there with LO#1 because it's such a special place to us. Have so much fun! This time around we'll probably try to take another mini-babymoon somewhere but not sure yet. We live about 3.5 hours from the gulf coast so maybe just a weekend getaway there.

@Raspberries we live in FL so we're going on a few little day/weekend trips to all the touristy stuff around here. We have Disney annual passes so we're going to Disney a few times (3 hours away), beach, etc. Nothing that requires flying or a long trip though.

@raspberries: we're going to San Diego for a long weekend in May! We are mainly going to celebrate DH's 30th birthday as that is where he went to college and I've never been... but it will also double as a babymoon I can't wait!

@raspberries: we are going to Scottsdale AZ for memorial day weekend. We have family there, but this time we are staying at a resort. I plan to get in some spa time and lounge in the shade by the pool drinking virgin pina coladas. We will see family, but only for 1 of the 3 days. It should be a blast!

@MrsADS: so jealous of your Disney passes! We will be going in October with Baby, and plan in lots of trips as my ILs just bought a house near there. I love Florida!

@buttermilk: Oh nice! I live in Massachusetts, so I'm all in favor of trips to the Cape (which actually reminds me, I need to find a maternity bathing suit of some kind - or at least a bigger bikini top, because the girls are out of control these days!) Are there any beaches closer to you though? I'd probably worry about being that far away in July too.

@Mrs.Scientist: I'm walling you for more info on must-sees!

@MrsADS: Oh man, your little one is gonna be so lucky to have parents with Disney season passes!

@LauraBear: Aw, how fun! My DH turned 30 last week, and we celebrated with Five Guys for dinner (which is what happens when you tell DH he can go ANYWHERE he wants for dinner, haha.)

@Mrs. Microscope: Oh wow, that sounds like an AWESOME getaway. I think I'm going to try to add a prenatal message at the spa in our hotel - a little spa-time sounds so wonderful right now.

Just had my 16wk scan. IT'S A BOY!!! I was surprised, I was really feeling girl.

The (possible) bad news - the ultrasound showed echogenic bowel, which is basically where the bowl is lit up a lot brighter than it should be. It increases the risk for Downs, cystic fibrosis, and other stuff, and puts you at high risk for intrauterine growth restriction. The doctor said because all of my other markers for Downs (NT screening, ultrasound, my age, etc) are totally normal, he says he thinks there is a 95% chance that the baby is totally fine. He says some babies have this and it just goes away.

So I am trying not to worry, but easier said than done. Today they did a blood test, I don't know what it's called but it's basically where they analyze the fetal chromosomes in your blood. It's different than the regular quad screen they do. We will have the results of that in 2 weeks, and if that is negative, then it means 99% chance the baby doesn't have Downs. If the test is positive, the doctor said he recommends an amnio. Even if all the tests are negative, he said I will have to have extra monitoring for growth restriction.

I wanted to be excited after the scan and call everyone to tell them the gender, but instead I sat in the car in the parking lot and bawled. I know everything will probably be ok, but it's scary.

@mommygrace: Sorry you're still sick, my reached a turning point at 17 weeks but threw up every few days until 19 weeks. Hope it stops for you soon!
@raspberries: No baby moon for us (not planning one anyways) but going to try to have a few date nights in the next few months! We haven't had a date night since November so it's definitely overdue!

@MrsADS: Congrats on the Though I'm sorry about the added stress, praying it's nothing

@MrsADS: Congrats on the BOY!! I'm sorry about stressful news, but I'm hoping and praying everything is just fine Lots of us on here got a cell-free DNA test done and most got results fairly quickly (mine were exactly a week), so maybe you won't have to wait long.

@raspberries: We are going on a babymoon! We're leaving April 18th to stay 5 days in Barbados. We're staying at a really nice resort while we're there. I'm super excited!

@MrsADS: Congrats on the boy! I hope you get your results back quickly and everything looks good.

Last night DH and I went to a friend's place for an evening of fun ... And when we were leaving, the other two ladies who were there both patted my bump! I was a bit taken aback since I wasn't expecting any hands-on-bump action until I was a bit bigger. I suppose it's okay since they're friends, but after the initial surprise/shock moment, my next instinct was to swat away at their hands! Luckily I was able to curb the instinct. At least now I know to be prepared ... But strangers better stay away from my bump because I will definitely swat with a vengeance!

@LauraBear: You will love San Diego! We were there last year on vacation.

@raspberries: We are thinking about going to a resort in Amelia Island, FL next month. We were thinking about a cruise, but I've been feeling pretty rough lately (thanks to a uti and back injury) so something more low key sounds nice. We're in Atlanta, so we may stop for a night in Savannah on the way down.

I didn't share the follow up on our ultrasound (our official results visit wasn't until the next day). I do have a small SCH, but they're basically not worried about it. I don't know why they didn't just say that in the first place. I know what that is, and I was really confused initially about what the heck they were talking about. They'll keep monitoring it, like I said, but they expect everything to be totally fine. I'm still clear to travel, work at the library, etc, and I'll keep seeing the midwives. If it was something bigger they would have me switch to an OB/MFM, so I consider that a good sign. So still wish things were normal, but I'm not worrying! Baby being perfect is still the main thing! And she's SO wiggly; it always makes me smile, even when she kicks my bladder.

@MrsADS: Congrats on the boy! I'm sorry you got bad news too. I HATE how it takes the fun out of everything. But for what it's worth, it really does sound like it will be nothing. I just read someone on here's post about having a baby that had showed that same result, and baby was born 100% fine, but I don't remember where. Maybe it was one of the recent birth stories? I can try to track it down if you like, since reading about good outcomes can be comforting. Lots of hugs, and feel free to vent all you want when you're worried!

@aprild: Yay, congrats on your little boy! Starting to even out a little on boys and girls here.

@raspberries: We leave for our cruise in less than 2 weeks! I'm really excited. We're considering taking another, small trip closer to time. Possibly to Atlanta, since it's only a 4 or 5 hour drive. And DH is a huge Braves fan, so he'd enjoy catching a game. I used to live there, so I like going back and seeing things I liked when I was younger. That would be our official "babymoon" if we do it. But we may just save the money and DH's vacation time for later. We have his company trip in June (Vegas, not my first choice but it's a free trip!), and then in November if we're feeling up for travel with baby, his dad is paying for a family trip (again, Vegas, but we'll see Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, and again, free trip!), so we don't really *need* another vacation this year! But with how much DH has been working, any extra time off is not a bad thing.

Also, we got some pretty good news on his job front. He's officially being moved up to a Team Lead. It doesn't come with an automatic raise, but it will be taken into account when it's time for annual raises. And it gives him his first management experience. That's good for moving up in the company and for possibly looking for a job elsewhere eventually. Right now he'd take around a 50% pay cut to go anywhere else (not counting the overtime he gets paid for, so it would really be more), so we can't really afford it without major lifestyle changes. But if he can get into management, that might make it easier. Oh, and we definitely won't be moving for the next year or two (so we'll be near family when LO is born, which is *mostly* a good thing), but he's pushing really hard for international, so when we do move again we might be going to New Zealand!

@Torchwood: I'm glad you get to stick with your midwives!

I had a good appt today. Met one of the other midwives, and I liked her! Heard the baby's heartbeat again—150bpm today. We made our appt for our scan on the 23rd, which I wish was sooner. Also, DH got to feel kicks today!!!

Had my anatomy scan today. The little bugger was breech, facing my back, with the cord between its legs, so the poor sonographer had a heck of a time getting all of the images she needed. We'll get the results hopefully this coming week.

I think we've been forced to team green. The sonographer wagered a guess that it was a girl, but said she couldn't be sure because of the cord. So unless the doctor orders another scan, I'll find out when the baby gets here!

  33. Mrs. J

    pomelo / 5132 posts

Out of curiosity, do you all remember what your baby's heart rate was at your last appt? How does it correlate to the old wives' tale? As I said, LO's was 150, so I think that means girl. Based on other tales, some say girl, some say boy. Chinese gender predictor says girl; the chart was right for DS.

  34. Mrs. Microscope

    pear / 1788 posts

@Mrs. J: HB was 145 on the nose, which is the line for boy/girl as I understand! My Chinese chart says girl. I have had more girl dreams than boy, and gut feeling for me and dh says girl. But the moment if truth is still 11 days away!

@Mrs. J: This one has always been 160-170 at appointments. N's was 169 at his 6 week ultrasound (I actually checked through our old thread because it was exactly the same at our first ultrasound this time), but was in the 140s the rest of the time. And they're both boys, so who knows!

@Ms. RV: Oh no, are you okay with being team green?

@Mrs. J: 148 during my OB appt on Tuesday, 130 during my ultrasound Saturday. No clue on the gender.

@lilteacherbee: Not really. I'm a planner. It was on my chart that I wanted to know the gender. Maybe I'll get a sympathetic radiologist that says that the images of the heart were a little too fuzzy and orders another scan, even though the images were just fine
