@raspberries: We have a Darth Vader outfit, so there's a chance I'll be finding a way to make it a little girly. But part of me really wants to go super cutesy too. I'm excited to do something cute though.

I have felt so sick the last few days. Not like I'm actually getting sick, just tons of heartburn, and some nausea, with no appetite. This isn't supposed to start at 19 weeks!

Has anyone given any thought to baby's going home outfit? There was a thread on that recently that made me start wondering. We have a little outfit that says, "after every storm comes a rainbow- here I am!" with rainbow leg warmers that would be really adorable, but pretty sure it'll be too big that early. Looking forward to getting the clothes we have out of the attic and reminding myself what we have. But I wouldn't mind an excuse to look for another outfit too!

@aprild: I know a Lochlan, but he's too little to tell me if he likes his name. I like it though!

@Torchwood: We are going to do the same as we did for our first since we were team green then, too. I bought a boy and a girl outfit so that baby could have something gender specific to come home in. I gifted the one I didn't use to a friend who had a baby girl 6 weeks after me. I just need to decide if I'm bringing the same outfit DS wore home in case it's a boy, or if I'm getting this baby it's own boy option.

Oh and I hear you on the heartburn, mine showed up about a week ago :(. I thought I might get away without it this pregnancy... guess not.

That outfit sounds so adorable!!! Would it work with pants/leggings instead of the leg warmers if they are too big? You can kinda get away with a onesie that's too big but I would think leg warmers would be a little more difficult to keep in place?

Forgot to update.. We had our anatomy scan yesterday and everything looked good. The tech didn't like the quality of images she was getting of the heart based on babies position, bless her heart for trying though, we were there almost 2 hours and she had me get up and walk around to see if it would help but stubborn bub wouldn't move. She said she got some images and will see if the radiologist wants me to come back and redo them. Baby was JUST like DS, ankles crossed and hands crossed up by it's face. DS still to this day crosses his ankles all the time and as a baby, always had his hands up near his face. That made me really happy to see. We did not find out the gender, although I have a serious hunch and may have seen some clues to support that but I don't know for sure because I could have been forcing myself to see things based on my already formed opinion. We have decided that we might get my doctor to write it in an envelope once she gets the report and then keep it at home in case we change out minds and want to know but we'll see. The urge to know has kind of died down after getting to see baby yesterday.

@Torchwood: I brought my son home in a fleece sleeper, the first thing I bought for him when i found out I was pregnant. I'm more of a practical clothing person, so I'll probably do the same for this baby, only a cotton sleeper since it will be august.

@aprild: I know a girl named Lochlan. She is 35 and loves her name. I'm originally from Atlanta and it is typical for girls to have more unique names or names that may be considered more masculine. I have a friend who just named her daughter Broughton. Usually, they are family names.

I'm STARVING!!! And feeling bump-y...with this strange stretching feeling through my hips. And peeing all the time! Guessing none of this is likely to get any better fast, is it?

ETA: On the up-side, my back feels better!

@getjazzy: Congrats on a great scan! I'm really looking forward to mine on Tuesday!

@Torchwood: we had a gender neutral outfit to come home in. What we do this time will depend on if we find out Monday or not! My mom is throwing some serious shade about us finding out though— she doesn't think we should.

@OhCaptain: @raspberries: i love this! may be the only time we get to completely pick out the halloween costume on our own without the baby's input so i am going to take advantage of this... The little lion costumes are always cute.

Had an appt today - I'm relieved that we quickly got the heartbeat this time, so all seems well.

Sucky part is I have to wait 3 more weeks for the anatomy scan. It seems like everyone knows what they're having, and I have to wait until I'm 19+weeks

    pear / 1788 posts

@lulibee: you are not alone! Only the early august mamas and the 'high risk' mamas know. I am 19+ weeks and have 5 days left until my anatomy scan. Waiting sucks, but it will be worth it!

  17. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@lulibee: It's worth the wait! My ultrasound tech was NOT happy that they let me schedule it at 18 weeks. She wasn't able to get several shots she needed because LO was too active (she said that would happen, because there's still too much room for her to move around).

    cherry / 215 posts

@Mrs. Microscope: Thanks - it's so close for you! How exciting!

@Torchwood: My last pregnancy it was done at 18 weeks. He was moving a lot, but they did find it easily. Let's hope baby cooperates again this time

  19. LauraBear

    cherry / 215 posts

@lulibee: My midwife won't do it until 20 weeks and due to some scheduling issues, I have to have it at 21... so four more weeks for me!! I am telling myself that is okay because he/she will be bigger and we'll get to see more details and everything. Not sure if that is true but it has helped me.

Update (sort of) on my anatomy scan...

MFM doctor and u/s tech both measured the ventricles. Still measuring 10mm, though I clearly saw one on the screen that said a measurement of .952cm. I am okay with them rounding up to 10mm-- much better than rounding down to 10. MFM confirmed no other findings other than the ventriculomegaly, which is reassuring.

Genetic counseling convinced me to take a MaterniT21. If there is a trisomy 21, at least we can prepare. She said that T13 and T18 were highly unlikely with only one finding on the ultrasound. I also am getting tested for cytomegalovirus and toxoplasmosis.

The plan is now to get ultrasounds every three weeks for the duration of the pregnancy. MFM may decide that if the ventricles stay at 10 for a while that I only have to go in every four to six weeks. Either way, I think I've technically been flagged as high risk.

Wouldn't you know, that little bugger who put the cord between its legs on the anatomy scan decided to cross its legs today! I guess the MaterniT21 will let us know for sure. MFM said that it was probably a girl, which rules out some possible conditions associated with ventriculomegaly. Everything I read said to be less concerned if it was a boy, so now I'm confused.

No bad news yet. And that's what I'm marching to.

@Ms. RV: Glad everything seems to be okay right now. I'm also glad you're getting the MaterniT21 test. I think it will give you lots of reassurance! And if it turns out to be a trisomy, you'll be prepared. But, I'm hoping and praying so hard for you Keep us updated! Did you do the blood draw today?

@lilteacherbee: I did. Luckily, MFM is in the hospital, so if they ever order any kind of tests I can get them done the same day.

@lulibee: I didn't find out the gender or have my scan until I was 20 weeks so the only reason I've found out before you is because I'm further along! Hated the wait though.

Any of you second time moms have advice about whether or not to splurge on a glider? I really loooove this one from West Elm but have to justify the price to DH.

    http://www.westelm.com/m/products/graham-glider-g667/

We live in a sort-of three level house where the first floor is just three steps down from the second floor. First floor has the only tv and the baby's room is on the third floor right next to our room. I feel like a glider will be really nice for late night feedings so I don't have to go too far. And since this is our first and we want two, I think it would be worth it to splurge on a nice one now. But if most of you think we won't use it that much, I will just get a less expensive glider off craigslist.

    Thoughts??

    nectarine / 2086 posts

@LauraBear: we also really want a glider for our living room, but I think I'm going to check local thrift stores to see if I can find a cool vintage one in good shape. Also west elm rotates their sales - I think bedroom furniture is now. And side chairs were right before this - so it will probably be a few months before they go in sale again - but it's 20% off if you can wait.

I think baby may have changed positions or something - I was feeling movement so frequently, almost every time I sat down, but for the past 5 days or so it's become a lot less frequent. Good thing our ultrasound is tomorrow!

@LauraBear: I think a comfortable chair for feeding is key, especially if you breastfeed. We have a rocking recliner that has worked out really well, super comfy for the long feeding and rocking sessions. The only thing I found was that I didn't really know what kind of chair was best until my son was here.

@MrsStar: Congrats on picking a name! It's lovely!

@LauraBear: We splurged big time on our glider and it was the single most appreciated item we bought! We've used it every single day for pre bed time feeds, middle of the night feeds, pre bed books now that DS is older. We use it when he' sick and wakes in the night and DH often sleeps in it with DS when he's sick and won't go back to sleep otherwise. I would do it over and over and over again and we're not even at 2 kids yet!

We bought this one.. it glides, reclines fully flat and you can lock the glide function and it's a regular arm chair so I see us getting use from it post babies too.
