Aw I hope you're not finding it too hard in the heat! It's winter here so I'm using dh's warm shirts instead of spending money on overpriced maternity stuff! I had morning sickness during Summer and that was brutal so I can't imagine what it's like being big and pregnant in the heat!

@Torchwood @OhCaptain totally agree about looking forward to contractions/cramps as a positive possible going into labor sign, and not an "OMG is this preterm labor" freak out sign.
I'm still having a lot of contractions that are painful/with cramping which freaks me out. I don't think the contractions are more frequent but they are more painful. Not like "I'm dying" pain but definitely uncomfortable like bad menstrual cramps. It also seems like when I am standing/walking for more than like 5 minutes (like, after washing dishes for 5 minutes) I get awful pressure/cramping/pain in my lower uterus and like around my pubic area/vagina and sometimes in my lower back as well. Sometimes it's more "rhythmic" like maybe it's contractions and sometimes it's just that constant pain/pressure. It REALLY scares me because I don't think it's normal at this point. That pain is a lot worse than my regular "contraction pain" and when I get it I have to lay down and I can't concentrate or do anything, just breathe through it. It makes me worried that I'm going to go into real labor or my water is going to break or something.
The perinatologist has now bumped up to seeing me once a week which seems like a lot, but I guess it's good he is taking it seriously and keeping an eye on it (either that or maybe he is buying a boat or something, I dunno - LOL!).
Anyway, hope everyone is surviving in the heat!! I am in south Florida so it's been super hot and humid here for months, I feel your pain. I actually don't mind it but it does make it tough to be active outside. I am actually glad I will not have to deal with winter and cold weather with a little baby, it's just summer clothes year round!
Hope everyone has a great week!

It's been in the 90's every single day for as long as I can remember here in the swamps of FL. No one can believe I was crazy enough to get pregnant now (due at the end of August means I get the worst of the summer, though September is usually awful too, the humidity just starts to fall in October.)

@MrsADS: I'm in awe that you don't mind the heat! Although I'm not originally from here and after 3 years I don't know that I'm used to it yet. I am having some pressure now (which I remember from last time, but not this early, ugh) and it worries me, so I can't even imagine the stress and worry this is causing you. I'm really glad you have the appointments set up. What does your perinatologist say about the changes- or have you not seen them since it started? I'm so sorry you have to deal with this
nectarine / 2262 posts
@KJPugs I know, when we were announcing the pregnancy to people back in Feb/March, everyone was like "oh, you're going to be so big and pregnant in the summer, poor thing!" I guess I prefer the heat over cold! But, I am definitely staying inside a lot, so that helps. If I was outside all the time I am sure I would feel differently! And I'm working from home so I wear tank tops and shorts every day, not having to get dressed up for work definitely helps.
My cervix has measured different things at different points - the whole mess with the perinatologist started because I had an u/s at my OB's office that showed my cervix was like 2cm and funneling. My u/s since then have been mostly normal, but the perinatologist say "the cervix is dynamic", so I guess it can change?? So it's hard to know how much to worry. I'm not on bed rest but supposed to "take it easy" - no walks, no being on my feet for long periods of time, etc.

@kjpugs: Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about your nanny leaving - that stinks! We're having a hard enough time trying to find regular part-time daycare (as in, the same three days every week.) Good luck - I hope you find a good solution for your fam!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@raspberries: ugh, tell me about it! We need PM half days for 3 set days (that change every 6 months or so) with occasional 4th days which change. Even being SET days I can't find a single daycare that will work with us! They're all AM only, or MWF/TTh, etc. Or, RIDICULOUSLY expensive. It makes me so mad. Nothing seems to ever be workable to a cook's schedule. I hate that his choice has to be trying to find something (where we probably drive far to get to it) or not seeing his kids. Luckily we have a nanny interview tomorrow so fingers crossed. We'll probably send DD1 to the ONE place we found that works with our schedule (it's considered preschool so she can't start til 2, which would be probably a week or so after my maternity leave ends) which we were considering anyway, to give DD2 more attention with the nanny and to get DD1 the socialization and structure she desperately needs as she gets older! I hate having so many things up in the air! I wish all employers offered daycare (although that wouldn't make a difference for me WFH and technically DH's does, but he works 40 minutes away and his shift goes til after midnight so I would have to drive 2 hours a day through rush hour just to pick her up... no thanks.)

I got back from NYC today! DH and I had a great time, but I am super tired. DH loves to walk and can walk for miles and miles when exploring a city. I had to keep saying "don't walk so fast" and "remember, I'm 31 weeks pregnant." I was walking between 6 and 8 miles a day for three days in a row! I think that's pretty good for someone as pregnant as I am! My only problem was my feet and ankles got very swollen at the end of each day. I had this last pregnancy too, and I was barely walking then. so I think this is more a pregnancy symptom I experience than a side effect of walking.
Does anyone else have pregnancy swelling? Is there anything you do that seems to help it?

So my BH have changed from just a tightening/numbing feeling to now being a distinct period type cramping (which is what early labour felt like with my first). Still only getting a half dozen or so per day but it coincided with a few days ago baby seemed to wiggle in to a position that's seriously crushing my cervix. Hoping these are all good signs for my potential vbac!

So per my patient portal I passed the glucose test! Score of 100 out of whatever it is but I'll just tell myself I got a perfect score haha. Still have yet to get a call....
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@kjpugs: Yay for passing!! My office just wants it under 140. It was 149 with LO (ended up failing the 3-hour too), but I passed this time with a 105. I like your perfect score idea
And I think it's crazy they still haven't called! When I failed, they called the next day and I had to schedule the 3-hour very soon after that. If you had failed, I wonder if they would have let you know sooner?

@aprild: Glad you had a good time! And that's a lot of walking!! I walked maybe 2 miles yesterday and was sooo tired afterward!

@aprild: Definitely dealing with some swelling here (ankles, though not so much my feet)! Because I have to spend a lot of time on my feet at work, I've taken to wearing at least medium compression stockings there. Not stylish, but they really do help!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@aprild: No swelling here yet but I can totally relate to the fast walking husband! We went to NYC when I was newly pregnant and my husband did the same thing!! Plus we bought tons of subway credits and he would insist on walking places even if I told him I was exhausted. We ended up leaving with some unused credits *grumble*. Glad you has a good trip!!

Only 55 days to go! I've been feeling pretty anxious about getting everything done before the baby comes (nursery, freezer meals, getting baby items shipped here in time from the states). Also, I'm worried about baby not turning. She's been transverse forever! But I still have time, right? It seems unreal that in less than two months I'll have a baby girl, and my life will change forever.
At least I get to see her this Thursday via ultrasound at 32+3.
And Oh.My.Gosh.Ladies. I finally caved and bought real over-the-bump-in-an-astronomical-size maternity underwear, and I'm in heaven. I can't believe I did not do this sooner ... No more waistband digging under my bump and ginormous baggy butt area from going up in size in regular underwear!

@Mizhi: I just bought maternity underwear this weekend too. Life changing!

@aprild: I had a similar NYC experience when I was almost 13 weeks! MAN it took it out of me and I ended up chasing my husband practically! Last time I had a lot of swelling but more in my groin/pelvic area. (My OB was like hmmm you put on a lot of weight but I don't see swelling, and then she did my exam and was like OH THERE IT IS!) Almost the whole third tri last time I felt like she was going to fall out or was pushing down on my pelvis, and it seems to be the same this time. When I'm on my feet a lot they do feel swollen though I haven't been able to really see it, and I know they swelled a little my final week last time. I need to find some comfortable shoes for walking- flip flops aren't cutting it and my lovely toddler lost one of my Columbia sandals!

Nooooooooo!! This morning while I was drying my hair in just my bra I happened to glance at my belly in the mirror and noticed two small stretch marks starting to form. I managed to make it through my entire first pregnancy without even the faintest stretch mark. I'm so disappointed! How's everyone else doing with the stretch marks?

@Mrs.Scientist: 31 weeks and none so far. But I'm certainly not feeling in the clear yet!

28 weeks + 2 and I will most likely have a scheduled csection at 36 weeks. Time is flying!

@autumnlove: wow!! So close! I'm 31.5 weeks and hoping to schedule a RCS soon for 39 weeks. How are you feeling about it?! Can't wait to see your sweet girl. I know your big girls must be super excited!!

@Mrs.Scientist: I have a couple tiny ones around my belly button and I also made it through my first pregnancy stretch mark free! I did have a few appear on my boobs soon after birth, but they went away.

@lilteacherbee: I am really nervous about it and I hope my placenta moves so I can go later...38/39 weeks! FX!
Can't wait to meet Carter!

Just went to the OB and I have gained 25 lbs at 29 weeks. OMG! My doctor didn't say a word so I guess she thinks it's ok? Yikes though. I am still measuring behind but the growth ultrasound looks fine, so the dr isn't too worried.
We talked about pediatricians today - makes it feel so real!! Has anyone thought about that yet? I am thinking in a few weeks I will call up 2 practices we're considering and see if we can make appointments with both.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@MrsADS: that's also how much I had gained at 29 Wks. Going to the doc again today and I'm scared for what the scale says!
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Buttermilk it is scary but I'm trying not to worry about it. I think our bodies will do what they are supposed to do. I was pretty thin pre-pregnancy so I'm guessing maybe I just need some extra reserves to be ready for baby and breastfeeding. I figure as long as I don't go totally crazy and gain another 25 lbs in the 3rd tri, I will be ok.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: I didn't notice any last time until my belly shrank! But they faded pretty quickly. Granted I had a ton of old faded ones on my sides from puberty... and I would never be caught dead in a bikini so I don't mind too much! They looked a little scary for a few weeks but ended up being fine Haven't noticed any this time but I'm sure they'll come!
pear / 1788 posts
@MrsADS: we are talking about pediatricians too! One of the clinics by us has a monthly expecting parents meet and greet, so we are going to the one late this month. If we don't like them, we will make an appointment with another local clinic. It's getting so real!
No stretch marks yet, but who knows what the next few weeks will bring!

@kjpugs: I feel your childcare pain, lady. The only daycare we currently have lined up charges a ridiculously high hourly rate for a non-standard schedule, which basically reduces my monthly take-home pay to $200. Ugh. Hope your nanny interview goes/went well today!
@aprild: My feet were swelling pretty badly for a while, but drinking tons and tons of water seems to help (as well as elevating them as much as possible and avoiding salty foods, but those last two are easier said than done!)
@Mrs.Scientist: No stretchmarks yet here, buuuut my mom and grandma both had them pop up in the last few weeks of pregnancy, so I'm assuming it's only a matter of time. Boooo.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: That's pretty much how it happened for my first. Nothing at all then one day after my shower around 32-34 weeks I noticed two tiny lines. I asked DH if they were veins or stretch marks and you could tell he really wanted to say veins but alas they were not. I didn't end up with too many though and they faded pretty well afterwards. I have some again this time but they are staying really light thankfully and will hopefully fade just as nicely as my other ones after delivery.
That far along though and I thought I might be in the clear. I don't even know why, I have them on my thighs from puberty and my mom got them in pregnancy so it's not like I shouldn't have expected them.

Nanny interview didn't go great She was fantastic, but just got offered a part time work from home job. She was saying how she was going to do orientation tomorrow and see how she feels (like about doing both) but not to stop looking for people... it just kind of felt like she wants to make sure her new offer is legit and just do that

@MrsADS: oh thank god. just came from the midwife and I managed not to gain anything in 2 weeks. I'm so relieved. I just wanted a little break from the weight gain for a hot minute!!
pear / 1788 posts
@buttermilk: I had a weight gain break too! After gaining 8lbs in 3 weeks at my 27 week appointment, my 30 week showed no gain! So I'm still at 22lbs total, which I am happy with!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@buttermilk: @Mrs. Microscope: @MrsADS: I'm up 25lbs at 31 weeks. I gained 24 total with my first, but I also started 10lbs lighter this time. Even if I gain 10 more, I'll end up where I was last time. I figure our bodies pretty much do what they need to!

I had both MFM and regular OB appointments today. The ultrasound went well. Baby is measuring 3lb 15oz at 31.5 weeks, which they said is around 45th percentile. He has a big head like his brother (LOs head has always been 95th-99th percentile from birth!), but otherwise is smaller. I think my first LO was around 5lbs at this point. I did another blood draw for the antibody issue, so that should be back in the next couple of days.
We also talked about scheduling the c-section. I got the call this afternoon that the RCS is officially booked for the morning of August 4th!! That's 8 weeks from today, omg!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@kjpugs: sorry it didn't go better. Fingers crossed you find an amazing nanny soon!!
@autumnlove: I hope it moves too!!

@lilteacherbee: How exciting! Our RCS is schedule for the morning of Aug 4, too! I also had my growth scan today and baby was measuring 3lbs 11oz, almost the same as yours.

Had a midwife appointment today. Short version, everything is still good. Long version, her heartrate was high for a while, so they had me on the monitor for 20 minutes. They wound up deciding her baseline is normal (though right at the top of normal, 155), and she was just having a lot of accelerations. So nothing to worry about, I'm still cleared to travel next week, etc. But it stresses me out at the time! I'm glad we have another ultrasound next week, just to be able to be certain she looks good.
I did feel a bit gratified though, because the first thing the midwife said when she looked at the printout was "this is an *active* baby." Which I've been saying all along but everyone just sort of treats it like "oh every mom says that." Now I have some proof!
Also, I'm up 20lb at 31 weeks, which I'm happy about. That's actually up 25 from my "normal," but given that I was 4 months postpartum when I got pregnant, I'm not complaining.
