@Mrs. Microscope: curious- does she have any kids? I always find it so interesting when people say how they want to buy off-registry to make it more "personal." (Clothing I think can be ok, but I am not a fan of tchotchkes!) I had a friend do that to me (but she called to ask what we might want to decorate the nursery etc) and she just told me she's expecting (multiples!! SQUEE!) and I wonder if she (and others who do that) finally GET IT after the hours of time you spend researching and registering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we want it, it's on the registry!!!!!!!!

@kjpugs: oh, she has 3, the youngest just turned 1! So she knows... But she is a "stuff" person, and I am not. She is building a 5100 sqft house right now to upgrade the 2500sqft house they are in now ... So my little 1100sqft condo doesn't make sense to her. She has tons of room for lots of tchotchkes, which is good because she loves them. I am way more minimalist!

@Mrs. Microscope: oh man, that gives me the shivers. I LOVE precious moments (my mom has a few because I looked like a precious moments doll as a kid, per her!) but SHE bought them. I have a few things like that people bought me that have just sat around in boxes or unloved on shelves. Good for you for not allowing CLUTTER to take over your life!

@Mrs. Microscope: @kjpugs: we have been very fortunate to not receive many off registry purchases but we still got a few and I just do not understand! especially when it's a tchotchke! I feel bad bc they've spent the money, but come on don't you think we could use even a pack of plain white onesies more than a fucking baby picture frame that's sooooo not our style?
kiwi / 696 posts
@buttermilk: @Mrs. Microscope: @kjpugs: I think it's because the "useful" stuff isnt fun. Luckily we only got a few tchotchkes (uh, sp?) that were not on our registry, but we did get four home made quilts, 4 of those soft baby blankets and 2 knit stroller blankets. Seriously, so many freaking blankets. I didn't register for any. Maybe I should have....then maybe people wouldn't have given us a bunch if they thought someone was buying one....
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@OhCaptain: Omg the blankets. I must have gotten 10. The monogrammed one was nice and so were the handmade ones! I think unless they're SPECTACULAR (personal/handmade) no one needs 'em!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@OhCaptain: @kjpugs: we donated a bunch of the handmade blankets to single/teen moms and kept the sentimental ones!
Holy Braxton Hicks, Batman! They've been nuts tonight and I feel nauseated too. Super fun times. I get a little anxious about it, but I usually feel a little better when I get past 33.5 weeks, which is when my mom had me (like tomorrow for me). Irrational, I know, considering my first was ten days late!!!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. J: Same! And my Braxton hicks are just like a tightening but lately I've been getting period type cramping which is what labour felt like in the early stages for me last time. I woke up to cramping last night at one point too. Nothing consistent though. I was late with LO1 too and for some reason I feel like I might be early this time? Who knows. I'll probably go late again haha.

Hi ladies...I've been MIA but following along! Our house got broken into Thursday while we were at work. Such a bummer. They stole a few things...laptop, prescription meds, all my jewelry (just a couple highish value pieces but nothing major) and the most disturbing was the boudoir photo album I made for my husbands & mine 1 yr anniversary. Talk about creepy. A tip for all of you...take pictures of everything. I had a few pieces of jewelry I NEVER wore and now I don't have pictures for insurance. I'm hoping insurance will still cover those things but I'm not sure yet.
Grrrrrr not a fun time to have this happen! Especially since MIL is having some major health issues as well. I can't take anymore stress!!!
pear / 1809 posts
@Portboston: That's terrible, and I can't believe they took your boudoir photos! I would be creeped out too, especially since you have no idea who these people are or what they are doing with them. I hope your insurance reimburses you for everything!
pear / 1788 posts
@Portboston: creepers! Sorry about the break in. I hope insurance works with you and you get some money back!

@Portboston: how terrible!
I've finally started to do something about babies arrival, I changed the changing pad cover on our changing pad.
Haha. Really though. This is my last week of nannying and then time between now and babies arrival will be spent getting everything we need out of the shed, cleaned and possibly organized. Poor second baby. By 34 weeks I think my sons nursery was totally done, the stroller was put together, the cloth diapers were ordered, the thank you notes were written and the car seat may have even been installed. Lol.

@Portboston: Sorry about the break in!
Had a small scare this morning when I thought my waters might have been leaking, thankfully nothing has come of it! Really need to get onto packing my hospital bag for just in case though!

@OhCaptain: Hahaha. Me too! We have done so very little to prepare for baby #2-- there is furniture in a room and that's about it. No name even. I am pretty sure we had everything pretty much ready to go by 32 weeks last time.

@aprild: @Mrs. Microscope: @MrsStar: @OhCaptain: thanks ladies. Taking inventory for insurance and hoping they cover most of our stuff!
@MrsStar: yikes! Gotta get that bag packed!! I keep saying I'm going to do that too. I don't know where to start!
nectarine / 2994 posts
@Portboston: I attempted to pack mine on Saturday, I got the bag down from the cupboard, put it on the couch. Looked at the list I made of what to pack. And put the bag back in the cupboard to pack another day
Going to get the bag down again now and actually start!

I'm still doing terrible about replying, but still reading along! Couple things on my end. The biggest, I'm officially farther along in pregnancy than I've ever been! 33 weeks today. It's kind of a bittersweet milestone, but overall I'm happy about it. I've been looking forward to reaching this point since my bfp in November!
On a less positive note, I'm starting to get that feeling like I've just hit a wall and am really worn out by pregnancy. We went on my husband's company trip this weekend, and I'm just so exhausted and hurting a lot. I'm hoping getting rested back up this week will help. I feel guilty because I'm complaining about being worn out from a trip when so many women (including many of you!) are working full time and/or chasing other kids, etc, but I am just struggling!
Also, and I'm sure @MrsADS can relate, the constant contractions are wearing on me. They're usually still typical BH's, so not painful, but some really hurt. They still stop with a bath, and no other signs of labor, so my midwives still aren't concerned, but it's taxing. Part of me can't help but worry when they get too frequent (it was 106 one day and we walked 5 minutes to a store, and they got to 1.5 minutes apart) or too painful. And it's just tiring to have them all. the. time.
So I'm basically feeling happy but whiny. Thankfully DH is sympathetic and doesn't mind letting me vent.

Also, does anyone else have places on their belly's that hurt to the touch? The area right under my belly button is so sensitive/painful. I don't remember ever having that last time.
pomelo / 5607 posts
Oh, and one last thing, to end on a more positive note- we just placed the Amazon order for our last few major baby needs! Mostly the car seat (which I've been worrying about not having for a long time), but also some newborn disposables, wipes, etc. Once all that arrives (2 days, yay prime), and is organized, we're basically set! Just need to pack my hospital bag (which DH calls my bug out bag)!
apricot / 315 posts
@Torchwood: I have a spot above my belly button that is sensitive and stings a bit when I touch it or my clothes rub it. My OB said it's just something to do with stretching and the nerves.
I'm so impressed with everyone's organisation! I am a little further behind most of you, being only 30.5 weeks along but we have almost no baby gear. The plan is to sort it out when I start my leave just after 32 weeks. I'm very much counting down the days but work is just so busy and it's really wearing me down so I'm keeping all my focus on my work. I feel like if I don't, I'll just mentally check out!
In other news my glucose test came back fine but now I'm on iron supplements for low iron.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Torchwood I totally feel your pain - I would definitely be concerned by having contractions as close together as you are and painful. I was told that "real" contractions change your cervix, and BH don't. The only way to tell is to check your cervix. I would be concerned with that many that you are starting to efface/dilate... even if you are not actually "going into labor" today. That's basically what happened with mine and that's why I'm on modified bedrest/"take it easy" rest (lol). My doctor wants me to get to 34 weeks, then he said I can do whatever I want because they aren't as concerned about baby after that point. If I was doing the stuff you are (walking around in the heat, etc), I can't imagine what mine would be like. If I stand up and wash dishes for 10 minutes I am in a lot of pain.
My contractions still wake me up at night a lot and I get a lot of pain and especially pressure/cramping really low (like in my vagina), but also have pain like bad menstrual cramps, in my lower back, lower abdomen, and upper thighs. And every time I have a cervical check on ultrasound, baby's head is RIGHT up against my cervix. He is SUPER low. Which scares me that it would not take much to go into labor, but you never know.
I think the fact you are 33 weeks is a good sign but you definitely don't want baby to come yet. I would go to the doctor and ask for a transvaginal ultrasound to check cervical length. A manual/visual exam will not be accurate enough to show anything. And then, if your ultrasound shows your cervix is long and closed, you have some peace of mind.
kiwi / 696 posts
All this talk of BH and cervix lengths makes me so curious about mine! With my first pregnancy I had zero BH or cramping before 39 weeks. I'm 34 weeks now and have BH and cramping, but no where near what some of you ladies have. I'll be interested to see how I "progress" at the end of this pregnancy compared to my first.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Portboston: oh no! That's so scary. I'm glad you guys are ok and I hope you can get insurance to work out with the jewelry.
@Torchwood: I am not sure that they stay in the same area, but sometimes I have spots that hurt like that! I don't remember that from last time so it freaks me out a little. Sometimes her movements go a little past uncomfortable to almost a little painful too. I keep forgetting to ask my OB about it!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Torchwood: I have a friend who has been having BH's since around 20 weeks. This is her 3rd baby and her first 2 were slightly early so they put her on progesterone shots to ensure she doesn't have pre term labor. She, like you, is EXHAUSTED!!!! She's constantly having contractions and even though they aren't 'painful' they still take a lot out of her. So I definitely think you are allowed to complain! Heck, I think any woman at this point is allowed to complain...working, not working, kids, no kids...pregnancy wears on our bodies and at this point its tough to have any energy at all. No matter what the circumstances are!
DH and I both installed our carseat bases this weekend! Something kind of strange though....as we all know, its said that the center is the safest place for the seat since it has less impact in an accident but, neither of our cars have center latches!!!! WTH!? We both had to install the base using the center belt, which is said to be just as safe but I'm perplexed as to why car manufacturers wouldn't put latches in the center seats. So strange.
persimmon / 1281 posts
What diaper bags have you ladies got or are getting? The crooks stole our diaper bag (assholes)...who robs a house without something to take their loot in???? Anyway, we'll need to get a replacement and Im trying to decide if we want the same one or something different. We had the skip hop duo in black. I like that it was over the shoulder and black so that DH would be ok with using it if I wasn't there but it seemed like it may be a little on the small-ish side (especially since we will be cloth diapering)
kiwi / 696 posts
@Portboston: My car does have latch in the middle, but if I put the infant base there it pretty much renders the backseat useless for adult passengers. I read my car manual and it said the safest place was behind the passenger, so that's what we do.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@OhCaptain: Interesting! My side seats are still usable for passengers so that isn't really an issue but every where I've looked says to put it in the middle! Ill have to look further into it.
pear / 1955 posts
@OhCaptain: @Portboston: At our infant CPR class, they went over car seat safety, and said almost all carseats are safer in the middle seat, but to check your owners manual, just in case. So I think you're both right! If you don't have it in the middle seat, they usually recommend putting it in the passenger seat so it's farthest away from traffic coming in the opposite direction.
Also, @Portboston:, that's so scary! I'm glad no one was home, but how horrifying. I've been meaning to look into a home security system once we have a little one, but maaaaybe it's time to start looking now.
I'm planning to use the Kate Spade Serena as my diaper bag: http://www.amazon.com/serena-collins-avenue-diaper-crossbody/dp/b005b0kv0i?tag=indifash06-20. I bought it last year to use as a beach bag, since I love pockets on my beach bags and the nylon interior/exterior makes it super easy to wipe down. Now I'm transitioning it back to it's actual purpose.
@Torchwood: The entire top of my belly is sore to the touch - I think it's because I'm short with big boobs (which, ah-hem, are even larger with pregnancy now) and they rest on the top of the bump if I have to sit upright for a long period, like I do at my desk at work. By 3PM or so, I'm pretty much always reclined with my feet on my recycle bin to relieve the pressure.
clementine / 750 posts
@Portboston: I have the Skip Hop Versa. I like it a lot. It's gotten a lot of use in the last 2.5 years. I did just have a zipper break on it. It might have been helped by a certain husband or toddler.
Some BH here but the heat is really sapping my energy. I'm also dealing with scatica and foot pain. I'm having trouble sleeping as well.
We really don't have anything ready yet, number one is still in the nursery as her big girl room isn't finished. We also need to pull the baby gear out of storage.
So hard to get anything done while feeling like crap, working full time and commuting plus dealing with a 2.5 year old. Last pregnancy I was able to work from home a lot and it was a big help. Also a winter pregnancy was easier I think. Old boss was way more understanding than new boss.
kiwi / 696 posts
@Portboston I think like @raspberries said, the middle is the safest, followed by whatever your manual said. Since I'll have two in car seats my plan is to love my forward facing three year old behind the driver and the baby behind the passenger.
My diaper bag with my first was the JJ cole satchel. It was perfect for one in cloth. It does look like a purse though, although my DH didn't mind carrying it. When he was on his own he just used a backpack.
My diaper bag for two (one in cloth and a potty trained three year old) is the Jujube Be Prepared. Someone was selling it on my local FSOT facebook page for $40, a total steal. ITS HUGE, and I love how much I can put in it.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@raspberries: @OhCaptain: @kayakgirl73: thanks ladies! Ill look into those options!
@raspberries: I keep my feet up on a recycle bin all day! haha. Im convinced its helped keep my swelling down...especially because I broke mine last week and had to seek out a new one. So one day with no foot rest and my feet looked like balloons!

@kayakgirl73: Hope your pain gets better. I agree, having a toddler makes it so much harder this time! And last time, I was due in November, so I wasn't 8 months pregnant during 99 degree weather.
@Torchwood: Ugh, sorry about the BH. I never experienced those last time (or any contractions for that matter). I had a scheduled c-section at 39.5 weeks and never went into labor at all. I'm kinda assuming I'll know if I have them once I feel them?

How many weeks are you: 34 weeks today
Due date: August 3rd
Baby's gender: Girl
Symptoms you're dealing with now: Restless sleep, sweating (ew), major major heartburn, lots of pressure and pinching on my cervix.. hope it's doing good things to prepare lol.
Innie or outtie: Still an innie but getting closer to an outie.. it remained an innie the whole time with my first though so we'll see.
Rings on or off: On, not much swelling going on.
Lately I've been craving: Nothing, having trouble eating enough actually. It's so warm and everything gives me heartburn so I'm totally turned off of food.
Stretch marks: Yep, some from my first pregnancy are back plus a few of baby girl's own.
Braxton Hicks: Yea, several times a day. Sometimes they aren't the usual tightening anymore but actual period type pains.
Hospital bag packed: NO! But I am starting a shopping list for supplies and need to get that going.
Baby's room: Using DS' nursery but still need to do some organizing in the closet and dresser.
Baby shower: Second baby so no shower, we have everything we need and then some!
How is DH/DW/Partner doing: Business as usual, he's fine. We are struggling with names as per our first pregnancy, I don't expect a decision until after baby arrives.
Most excited about: Experiencing a baby girl, seeing DH with a daughter and DS with a sister.
Most nervous/worried about: How DS will react to a baby in the house, how I will cope with having 2 kids, sad about this possibly being our last pregnancy and baby.
Any birth plan specifics (RCS, med free, VBAC etc..): Attempting VBAC with a RCS booked for August 12th (9 days late) since they won't medically induce if baby hasn't arrived by then.
