Catching up after a busy week!
Our shower went well, and it was beautiful! It was vintage travel themed!!! We only had 11 guests, because we had several no shows, but it was fun. We got tons of clothes even though we did our gender reveal at the shower. We got some gear we needed so that was good, and then MIL and I went shopping with gift cards and got some more essentials. We got the RnP, PnP, car seat, diaper bag, changing pads, and bath tub. We will use our registry completion discount to buy our stroller after baby arrives. So now I get to organize everything!

My back has been killing me this past week or so, so I finally caved and scheduled myself for a prenatal massage this morning. I've been walking with a slight limp because of back pain, so hopefully the masseuse can do something about it.
We went with the Uppababy G-Luxe and Britax B-Safe for our stroller and car seat. We wanted an umbrella stroller because we'll be air travelling a lot and needed the convenience of being able to gate check and transport it easily. Plus it has a nice sunshade for the Okinawan sun.
I'm going to stop by a fabric and crafts store today after the massage to take a look at fabrics. I may be sewing my own crib sheets, crib skirt, and changing pad cover, which should be fun considering I haven't used a sewing machine in more than a decade! Hopefully I can get my craft-mojo working; I still haven't made her baby mobile yet, either, and the clock's ticking!
@Mrs.Microscope: Have fun organizing! It was a lot of fun for me to organize the nursery ... And a little aggravating for DH because I kept moving stuff around and was a bit indecisive about where to put things hehe!

@krispi: That's so nice of your coworkers to throw you a shower, and I'm glad you got some good gifts! I hope the job transition goes well for your husband! I'm sure it's not easy to start a new job with a new baby at home.
@buttermilk: I have a Vista, and I love it! I think it's worth the investment, especially if you plan to use it a lot. Plus, you could try to sell it later. They keep their value well.
@getjazzy: I have an appointment tomorrow morning. I'm almost 33 weeks, so I don't think anything special will happen.

@Mrs. Microscope: Sounds like a lovely shower! I'm glad you got a lot of useful gifts.
@Mizhi: Prenatal massages are the best! I've had a couple this pregnancy, and they made me feel so relaxed afterward. Good luck with the sewing! I'm not very crafty, but I admire people who are.

I've been reading all the posts but haven't been replying, sorry ladies! Sounds like those having baby showers are having fun and being organised!
Had my 33 week check up with my midwife today, she confirmed baby girl's head is VERY low, which I've wondered the past few days since it's painful to walk and felt like her head was stuck between my legs and could fall out at any moment.
Dh has the day off tomorrow so I think we might find some warm public pools (since it's Winter here) so I can float around for a while and take some stress of my hips and back.
45 days until my due date!
Hope everyone is well

@AprilD: The prenatal massage was so not worth it for me! I don't know if it was the masseuse or what, but she didn't work ANY of my kinks out. I guess I should have know when the other prenatal masseuse was all booked, and this one had a bunch of openings ... Plus the AC was broken ...
I have one spot in my back where I get a shooting pain every time I put weight on my right leg. It's making walking extremely painful and slow going. Any tips on working it out ...? If I wasn't pregnant I'd do some crazy stretches, but since I am I'm at a complete loss as to what to do.

@lilteacherbee: Yikes, that must be nerve wracking, with both of your jobs up in the air. I'm lucky to be where I am. It's as flexible and family friendly as a job can get.
@raspberries: Luckily we’re both on my insurance because it’s way cheaper than at his old job. His first couple of months at the new job will be without benefits, so it’s nice not to have to worry about that. And we have the Britax travel system too! We got the old style carseat with ours on a crazy clearance sale. It has such great reviews everywhere I look, and I see lots of them around our neighborhood.
@getjazzy: That’s good to hear that evenings aren’t too challenging at the beginning. I definitely plan on having him take over on the nights he’s home!
@buttermilk: I’m pretty ready to be done too. My pelvic pain has gotten worse this week and isn’t getting any better. My doctor said it’s pretty normal, but it makes anything other than sitting or laying down really uncomfortable. I ordered a maternity support belt from Amazon, so I’ll see if that helps.
@Portboston: I’ve said the same thing! The reason we get so big and uncomfortable must be so that we’re okay with going through labor when the time comes!

@Mizhi: That's such a bummer your massage wasn't any good!!!! I've been getting massages since the beginning of pregnancy but it is a regular masseuse in my chiropractors office and she just knows how to work on pregnant women. How disappointing to have a shitty massage!!! Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? S/he may be able to work out that pain for you and give you some stretches that will work. Pigeon pose has really helped me this week with lower back pain.
@MrsStar: Whoo for 45 days!! I don't know about you but these past few weeks have crawled by for me and I've got 48 more days...I know its going to drag!
@getjazzy: I loathe heartburn. I've started cutting my dinner portions down a lot and that helps keep me from waking during the night. I just eat a bigger lunch. Waking up in the middle of the night for anything sucks but to wake up to pain is the worst!!!
@Mrs. Microscope: sounds like a beautiful shower!

@buttermilk: over.it. We are staying at a hotel/mountain resort this week for a family event for my husbands job. Between trying to get a three year old to sleep in A hotel room to the annoying hotel pillows (why are hotel pillows all useless??) I wanted to call it quits in the middle of the night.

Ugh the heat and humidity are doing me in. My scatica has kicked up. I feel like I'm 65 instead of 41. LO one is not doing well at the back-up daycare center this week. I feel so bad for her. I'm lucky that my company has a back-up care benefit so I don't have to pay double when my regular provider is off on vacation but it sucks that she is getting so upset.
For LO 1 we have the City Mini GT, we used the Carseat adapter with the Chicco KeyFit when she was a baby it worked great. I love it, so light and easy to maneuver. Since both will need to be in the stroller at times and I'll have both with me during my maternity leave since our current daycare is closing, I bought a used Baby Jogger City Select.

I have been reading along!! We are on a little vacation right now.
I am a little over being pregnant right now, but boy ready for baby!!!
We have the Britax B Safe and B Ready stroller, both of which have served us well.

@Mizhi: chiropractor! I couldn't walk at about 14 weeks and I started seeing a Webster certified chiropractor and my pain is gone!

So... we are all signed up for daycare to start next Wednesday! We decided to do the 3 days (W/Th/F) that DH definitely works that his work daycare has available, after some awful interviews and just not feeling as good about anything else. I thought the lady I talked to was super rude but every other interaction we've had has been PHENOMENAL so I think I am chalking it up to a bad day for her and/or me when we talked last week. I seriously can't believe it that I don't have to worry anymore. Our current nanny said she could be our Mon/Tues sitter until mid Aug when my mom comes Aug 18. The daycare said that the flex days for the cast members should open by then (so we wouldn't need backup care, she would just come the days he's scheduled) but if not, I have 6 weeks of maternity leave, and she said we should be fine by Oct when Izzie will start. I am over the moon! Not 100% ideal but it's going to work out. Thanks so much for the well wishes guys, I know it helped.

Had my 34 week checkup today.. Nothing too exciting. I haven't gained weight since 2 weeks ago, and my doc asked if I was eating ok which I am as far as I know so I guess she will be watching that. Baby measures on target still. Next appointment at 36 weeks will be my gbs swab and an internal exam while she's there haha. I may opt out of the internals after that. Not sure if she will let be since I'm a vbac attempt.
pear / 1788 posts
@getjazzy: as long as baby is growing you are fine! I am.also scheduled for my gbs swab and first internal exam at 36 weeks... With the only male doctor at the practice whom I have never even met. Talk about getting to know someone! I plan to request a female nurse chaperone so I feel more comfortable. But it's good to meet him just in case he is the doctor on call when baby arrives!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: I actually surprised myself and chose a male OB with my first, and to be honest when it came time for internal exams I really didn't care (had only had women do physicals and stuff up until then). I think I knew that my lady bits were not my own for the next few weeks haha. I hope you find the same comfort when it's time for yours! All in the name of cute babies haha.

Just got a late baby shower gift in the mail and I need help!
My best friend sent me a Precious Moments figurine that plays "Jesus Loves Me". Where can I return it? 1. We aren't religious at all 2. We aren't doing a nursery and literally have no where to put it 3. It is totally not our style! she didn't send a receipt so I need help!
I plan to tell her thank you but we had to return it because it doesn't match our decor, and I know that will make sense to her, so no problems there.

@MrsStar: I hope you get some relief! Sounds painful.
@Mizhi: Oh no! I definitely think it was the masseuse, because a good massage can make a world of difference!
@getjazzy: I've been there. Taking Zantac helps me and sleeping at an incline.
@kjpugs: Glad to hear everything worked out!
@getjazzy: Do you have to have internals with a VBAC attempt? I'm also trying for a VBAC, and I would prefer to skip those if I can. I didn't have internal exams with my first, and I think it helped me stay calm and patient with going into labor. I wasn't constantly wondering how far dilated or effaced I was.
pear / 1809 posts
I had my almost 33 week exam today. If was super quick! The nurse took my vitals and then I met with a midwife who asked if the baby was kicking, measured my stomach (said I was measuring perfectly) and then asked me where I got my shoes. The whole appointment took less than 10 minutes.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@aprild: I'm not sure! I can't see a reason why they would need to, but I didn't think to ask my doctor when it came up. I don't see it mattering too much in terms of whether there will be complications or not, you really can't tell much from a cervical check? The only reason I'm tempted to do them is so she can do some sweeps if I'm getting close to the scheduled csection date with no action because she won't do anything to medically induce me.
Oh and my appointment was equally as uneventful and quick haha.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@aprild: yeah that's how pretty much all of my appointments have been too!
pear / 1955 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Maybe you could contact Precious Moments customer service through their website and see if there's a way to return it? Or if you're going to straight up tell her that you're going to return it, you could ask if she still has the receipt?
@aprild: @getjazzy: FTM question - why would you want to get or avoid internal exams? Are they really painful, or just not helpful?
persimmon / 1179 posts
@raspberries: No, they aren't painful, no more then a light pap I would say (membrane sweeps can be uncomfortable/painful for sure). For me, they just weren't helpful. I stayed at 2cm at all my checks from 36-41 weeks. Hell, after 37 hours of labour I was still only at 3cm so I'm worried if I hear similar numbers this time that I will lose my motivation. Although, curiosity will probably get the better of me haha.
kiwi / 696 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: I would just say thank you and then donate it, instead of returning.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: any time a male doctor in my practice does an internal exam they have their nurse person (each OB has a girl who does your BP, weight etc, I assume they're maybe nurses?) in the room, without even having to request it. HA, I almost hate it, I'm like ok let's not challenge how many people can we fit in a room to see my lady bits. I'm not 100% sure but I think they might have that for female OB's too even. I'm sure they have some sort of standard especially for male doctors.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@raspberries: I personally found the internal exams a tad more than uncomfortable, ours start at 37 weeks I think, I think people will refuse them sometimes just because it can be hard to feel really awful (I would feel like her head was going to FALL OUT) and then hear there was no progress, and it can be kind of disheartening. I skipped one for that reason. And also because I hated them! I am glad I did them though, my OB noted that I had a very narrow pelvic opening at my first check, which helped me make some changes to how I wanted to labor and feel more prepared about that circumstance.
pear / 1809 posts
@raspberries: I avoided them, because I didn't want to know how dilated I was. It really doesn't mean anything, because you could stay at 1 or 2cm for weeks, and then dilate to 4cm in an hour. Plus, I didn't want to have to get undressed and have someone poking around in my lady parts every appointment, especially for something that isn't medically necessary.

I wrote up a whole reply and it disappeared, nooo! I went to MFM today. My cervix is a little shorter from last week but not a huge change, so that's good. Still having a lot of painful contractions. Having more of them that hurt down into my thighs, which kind of worries me. But, they are keeping an eye on it.
They also did a growth ultrasound. At 27 weeks, he was in the 89th percentile (2 lbs 14 oz). Today at 30 weeks, he was in the 55th percentile at 3 lbs 11oz. Seems like a big change from me to go from 89th percentile to 55th, but the doctor didn't seem worried. I guess as long as it's within the range of "normal" it's okay. He is head down and his head was SO LOW that the ultrasound tech basically had the probe down in my crotch to get his head measurements. That concerns me a little with all of my contractions, that he is "locked and loaded to go"!
I came home from the appointment and discovered we had a big bag of sea salt and cracked pepper kettle chips and told DH I think I needed to eat all of them for lunch to help the baby get his weight up again.
The MFM basically said he'll "release me" back to regular activities once I get to 34-35 weeks, so that will be my goal! For now, I'm supposed to continue to take it easy/modified bedrest.
Glad to hear that everyone is mostly doing well!! I am doing a lot of online shopping for baby stuff since I'm stuck at home mostly.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I tried to return the figurine at Bed Bath and Beyond but they wouldn't take it. I then called precious moments headquarters in Missouri and they wouldn't even take it. So, I caved and called my friend and explained that I would like to return the figurine and use the money to go towards a much-needed stroller. she was very nice about it, and told me the name of the Christian bookstore that she bought it at. When I called them, they told me I could only get store credit back. So, I guess I will pick up some children's books that don't have any Bible verses in them and call it good. What a hassle!

@MrsADS: so glad to hear your update! Good luck on getting through the next 4 weeks. Hope baby boy stays locked and loaded and doesn't try to make his grand exit just quite yet!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Did she say why she picked it? It seemed like such an ill fit for you and. If your comfortable enough to tell your friend you'd like to return it, I would have thought she'd know it's not a gift you'd like.

@MrsADS: Great update, glad that uterus of yours is still hanging on to that baby. Hope you make it to 34-35 uneventfully! Wouldn't it be kind of funny if you ended up going late after all this?
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Getjazzy I know!! I will probably go through all this and then go overdue and have to get induced. Oh well- that would be a good outcome!
pear / 1788 posts
@getjazzy: she just said that she thinks was more personal than a registry gift, and she wanted us to know she loves us and our baby... And she thought it was cute. She is Christian and I guess she was thinking more what she would like than what would work for us! I know she is sad but she understands.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: That makes sense. I didn't realize she was religious. That's a nice sentiment though!!
