@getjazzy: true! I've heard of babies moving from posterior to anterior during labor! I'm getting close so it would be nice to know he's in a right position but you're right, things can always change!
@Mizhi: ugh that's really frustrating. I hate when they're so hurried like that. Terrible. I hope your insurance gives you the electric pump without hassle!
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Portboston @getjazzy @Ohcaptain I am pretty sure my baby is posterior. I get ultrasounds every week to check my cervix + baby's biophysical profile, and at every one (except for one) he was posterior (his back against my back). I feel a LOT of tickling/little movements really low down by my pubic hair and he always has his hands up by his face in the ultrasound, so I think that's what it is. And, his butt always sticks out on my right lower belly.
I figure it's one of those things out of my control, hopefully he flips around to make labor easier! I know he's very low in my pelvis so hopefully that helps. His head is always RIGHT up against my cervix. I had a growth ultrasound last week and the ultrasound tech had her u/s probe basically all the way down in my crotch (in my pubic hair) to get the measurements of the head because he is so low.

@Mizhi: I hope everything works with your insurance! I live in a town with an AFB so I have several friends who have shared with me the joys of the red tape that goes along with military insurance sometimes!
As for swelling, I've finallynstarted too! My left foot is worse than my right. Yesterday we took my son and our dog to the park to run around and when i sat down on a bench I looked down and saw that my left foot was swollen. It wasn't bad, and went away as soon as we got home but I can only imagine it will be the norm from here on out. Summer pregnancy i guess!

@buttermilk: that very very slight cramping is how I felt the week leading up to LO1 being born! EEEK. How are we all so close???
grapefruit / 4862 posts
For the first time (in both pregnancies!) I got to experience baby hiccups! Crazy! Never was able to definitely feel them with LO1 and hadn't yet with LO2. That was fun since this is 99% for sure our last pregnancy.
We bought our monitors this weekend (we opted to get a new set instead of a new 2nd camera since ours is pretty worn and used, and we'll just use it as backup/for travel.) All we need to do now really is order the stroller!
I'm on the fence about the stroller so maybe some of you can weigh in. We were planning to get the Contours Options Elite, as our nanny would be taking them out A LOT around the neighborhood daily. We have a small driveway and I would be parked, so that would make sense to do front-to-back. But now that they'll be in daycare, we won't be doing as much around the 'hood. The thought of a side-by-side seems easier and longer lasting (easy for them to get in/out, easier for places like Disney where we go a ton) so I am considering the B-Agile double again. The only worry I have are doorways. Most places I go like target it should be fine but I worry about restaurants, etc. Anyone have any insight?
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@buttermilk: on my due date, actually! I noticed the weird, slightly period like cramping randomly throughout the week leading up. Sunday (the day before my EDD) I told DH I might have to call him to come home from work but nothing ever happened. Monday I warned him and he was all "psh, like yesterday?" And then called our friends about going to disney the next day on his day off, haha. Turns out I DID have to call him to come home from work. And I called our friends to be like FYI, DH is an idiot and I'm definitely having contractions now so come visit the hospital tomorrow instead.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@buttermilk @Kjpugs y'all are making me paranoid. I am having so much cramping this morning again - like bad menstrual cramps (well, mine were never this bad). I'm not dying but pretty uncomfortable. Contractions are still irregular though but they hurt when I am having them (ranging from 6 to 18 mins apart, so not super close together). Don't think I'm in "real labor" but I just can't imagine I will continue like this for another 6 weeks!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@OhCaptain: ugh the swelling is bad for me too. I have it way worse during the week where I'm sitting at my desk all day. On the weekends its not quite as bad.
@kjpugs: awww baby hiccups are so fun...until you start feeling them EVERY DAY!! hahaa. I've been feeling them since I was around 25 ish weeks. Sometimes multiple times a day! I always try to help them stop by holding my breath....which clearly doesn't work because its the baby hiccupping and not me!
Are we all due in early August? I need to go back to the beginning of the thread and check everyone's due dates!
kiwi / 696 posts
@kjpugs: I'm also at a loss about which stroller to get! My kids are farther apart, so I'm just going to get a new single and one of those ride along boards. We had the city mini and loved it aside from the front wheel. It slips into the locked position and it's super frustrating. So, I'm trying to decide between getting a single b-agile, a jogging stroller (we really like walking on our trail system for family exercise), or a decent umbrella stroller becasue we have a friend who will pass her jogger along when she's done with it in about six months.
As for your predicament, my only first hand experience with a side by side is the bob duallie, which is a great stroller but a total beast for stores and even crowded outdoor spaces. My friend has the contours and while its long, the narrower profile is nice. Also, it always seems pretty easy to get two kids in and out, especially if the Seats are facing each other.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@Portboston it seems like most are due in early August but I'm due 8/25!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@MrsADS: I can't imagine you'll be pregnant for much longer! But who knows! A friend of mine who was due 2 days after me just had her baby this wknd! Not sure what the details were yet. But she had been having a ton of swelling.

I had to add the boy/girl icons so double check me! How do you guys copy/paste and keep them!?!?!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@MrsADS: I agree with @buttermilk: ... think you may be going early!!!!
@kjpugs: Thanks for posing this!!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@kjpugs: My info is correct! And I have no clue how do copy paste and keep the icons. I wanted to post an updated list one day and I couldn't figure it out so I gave up lol. Thanks for posting!
I went out this morning and bought my post partum supplies so I am ready to pack my bag too! The only thing on my list I forgot is stool softeners, really really important haha.
I've been getting period cramping too which I didn't get until pretty well right before going in to labour with LO1. And *TMI* I woke up in the middle of the night to go #2? I mean, could be a fluke but definitely not normal.
I'm 37 weeks today though!! Yayyyy "full term"! Can't believe baby girl will be here in a matter of a few weeks. Yikes, that means we need to decide on a name
persimmon / 1281 posts
@getjazzy: That happened to me last night too!!!!!!!! Hilarious. I was like, who wakes up in the middle of the night to go #2?!!? So glad Im not alone! and YAY! for full term!!!
No cramps for me but a definite increase in BH's!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
Moms having LO #2... anyone else having a hard time grasping that things may not (ok, probably will not!) be the same as with LO #1? I went into labor on my due date, my water didn't break beforehand, etc. I find myself just expecting it to go that way again and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that she could be early or (GULP) LATE or that my water could break in Target, etc etc etc. It's driving me nuts!
cherry / 211 posts
@Mizhi: I've been dealing with a lot of swelling as well. Not fun or attractive. I notice mine gets bad in the middle of the night and then gets better as the day progresses. It's been ridiculously hot here so I'm sure that's not helping.
@kjpugs: I think we'll be doing the City Mini GT side by side double eventually. We have the single CM GT and love it. It does pretty well (albeit not as well as joggers) on rough terrain and is super easy to handle. My neighbor currently has three under three and has the double city mini GT. She said it has been godsend--it fits through doorways pretty easily and it's nice that her two 2yos can get in and out of it easily.
This weekend we finally got some stuff organized for the baby so at this point I'm pretty comfortable with her coming any time (37 weeks tomorrow!). Pretty sure she's staying put for a bit longer though.
cherry / 211 posts
@kjpugs: THIS! My DS was induced at my 37 week appointment because of my blood pressure and I was pretty much expecting it because they warned me at my 36 wk appt that they would be inducing me if my bp was still high. This time around my bp has been perfect and I'm having no signs of impending labor. It's driving me a little crazy that this time I have absolutely no idea when/where/how it's going to happen. Kind of fun though since I didn't really get to have this same type of experience with DS.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Mrs.Scientist: I have a "feeling" (ok may be more of a hope due to the amount of pain I am in compiled with chasing LO) that I will go early this time, and while that thrills me (so long as I make it til August!) the whole "who will watch LO" thing is causing me SERIOUS panic. My mom arrives on the 18th for 2 weeks. DH and I are both feeling the 15th (which based on O-pain I had pinpointed as my EDD) but who knows how that would go down. STRESS! I also was TERRIFIED of my water breaking with LO1, but I kind of hope it does this time, since I didn't really progress until that happened!!!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@kjpugs: Totally! I keep feeling like I will go before 40w but I kind of felt like that last time and I went wayyyyy late and ended in a section which I didn't anticipate. Now I'm not sure what to think. The other thing is, some of my cramping has been pretty bad (like take your breath away, stops you in your tracks while walking) and I'm like oh man, I forgot how bad this is going to hurt!! If these cramps hurt, I'm toast for sure when it comes to labour haha. Your brain truly does block out the pain of labour.
cherry / 211 posts
@kjpugs: We have the same issue with who will watch DS if I go into labor soon. Our closest family is about a 5 hour drive away. My mom will be here a week from today so I'm holding out hope this little girl stays put until then so we don't have to stress about DS! I also just rescheduled a hair appointment I was supposed to have today for exactly one week before my due date. I really hope I'm not jinxing myself by doing that. I want my hair to look good for our newborn family pictures! lol. Plus with DS I never had time to get in for a haircut or brow wax before he was born and by the time I got in to have them done after he was born I looked like a hot mess. Don't want that to happen again!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@kjpugs: I'm actually terrified of going early! I had a scheduled c-section with my first and will do the same this time. I'm so nervous that I'll go into labor beforehand. It wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'd still do the c-section, it would just be early. Mine is scheduled for 39+3, so hopefully little man will hold out! I had absolutely NO signs of labor the first time (c/s at 39+4), so I have no clue what to expect regarding all of that. Just makes me anxious!!
Oh, and I could never copy/paste the genders from my phone/ipad, I always had to do it on my computer to make it work.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@lilteacherbee: I did it on my computer- no dice!
And I totally get what you mean- I think if it's after 37 weeks it's like ok, I'm in labor, so baby must be ready. (Not always true but easy to think that). But having to do c/s that takes some of that out of it! And lets be honest if I do go even a day early I'll probably stress about her being early! I just cannot survive going LATE with this heat!
kiwi / 696 posts
@kjpugs: I totally feel like a first time mom! I was induced at 40+3 (although I think it was more like 40 exactly based on conception) becasue baby was measuring big, had a failed induction and a CS. So, I have no idea what my body will do if not forced into labor! I find it all very nerve wracking! We have no close family (closest is 8 hours) and I'd really prefer my mom were here to watch DS if I need someone to watch him at night. I know he will be fine with any of my friends, they just all have kids the same age so it feels like such an imposition!
Right now my mom is planning on flying in on the first (my due date). I'm interested to see if I've made any progress when I get checked this week.

@kjpugs: I bought a side by side stroller - the Bumbleride Indie Twin. It's awesome, because the wheels are huge and can go over different types of terrain and offer a smooth ride, the seats are comfy and can recline independently, and the stroller itself is very stylish looking. I knew I wanted a side by side, because all the tandems I've seen it looks like one child's view is obstructed by the other seat. Plus, there is less leg room for the child. My son is very tall for his age, so I want a stroller that he won't outgrow right away. I also heard tandems can be harder to maneuver and steer, since the weight isn't always distributed evenly and they are so long! I was worried about the width of a double, but my single stroller is an Uppababy Vista that is 27 inches wide. The Bumbleride Indie Twin is only 29.5 inches wide and can fit through any standard doorway! That is only two and a half inches wider, so I think I can handle it.

@Portboston: That happened to me with my first-- DD ended up being born "sunny side up" which was a surprise to everyone. This time I feel like baby boy is moving around constantly (although definitely head down) so will be interested to see where he ends up.
@kjpugs: @Mrs.Scientist: I am feeling the same way! With DD I knew I wasn't going past my due date due to the growth restriction concerns from pretty early on (36 weeks maybe) so I had a definite end date. At the time, I was pretty upset about it being so scheduled but this time I find myself wishing I had something more definitive to plan around. I also keep thinking I am going to go early but don't have much to point to for that feeling. I honestly wouldn't mind going a week or so early but need to get everything in order first (both at home and at work) and I still have quite a bit to do!

anyone drinking Red Raspberry Leaf tea? I started last week and my BH's have increased SO much!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Portboston: tell me about this tea! I haven't ever heard of it but I also haven't had any BH. Might be worth starting for me in Aug (3 weeks prior to EDD)?
pear / 1788 posts
@Portboston: I always have a pitcher in my fridge! I've had 3 pint glasses today, which is pretty much what I've been drinking the last 2 weeks. Plan to increase it to 4 pints later this week when I hit 36 weeks, then up to 5 pints at 38 weeks. Fingers crossed that it works!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@kjpugs: My midwife said to start around 36-37 weeks. Its supposed to help tone the muscles of the uterus so your contractions are more effective and supposedly results in shorter labors (fingers crossed!)
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: DUH!!! We've already talked about this. OMG pregnancy brain
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Portboston: nice! good to know! Where did you buy it? I HATE tea but I figure I can mix with lemonade. I need to stay hydrated as it is... I swear it's 100 daily.
pear / 1788 posts
@Portboston: hahaha, we all have pregnancy brain!
@kjpugs: I was on a local tea shop blend until last week, but I didn't like it much. Red raspberry was the 3rd ingredient after alfalfa and oat straw... It tasted like barn. I switched to Earth Mama Angel Baby Third Trimester tea, and it is so much tastier! And the red raspberry is the first ingredient. I got mine on amazon.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@kjpugs: Whole foods has it. Its actually pretty mild...(I just remembered) someone mentioned adding lime or lemon to make it better.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Have you noticed any increase in BH's? I went from having them randomly every few days or so to about 1 or so an hour! great workout for the ol' uterus!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@kjpugs: I got mine at a bulk food store, they also have it at health food stores. The brand is traditional medicinals I think and I mix with other juices or other flavours of herbal teas and drink it cold. Way easier that way. Been drinking it for a week and have definitely had more and stronger BH. I just brew in large batches and keep it in a pitcher in the fridge.
@Mrs. Microscope: LOL @ tasted like barn. Mmmm delish! Haha
pear / 1788 posts
@Portboston: no increase in BH yet, but i have several a day anyway. Hoping they pick up!
@getjazzy: it really did taste like barn! I had to add lemon juice. The EMAB has peppermint so I actually like it and can drink it straight.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: @getjazzy: @Portboston: God I keep forgetting about that tea! Still have a pitcher in my fridge. Just poured a glass and the lemon REALLY helps!

have any of you heard about eating dates in the month leading up to your due date to shorten labor & delivery?
from Fit Pregnancy:
"Women who ate dates daily during their ninth months were less likely than non-date eaters to need medication to start labor or to help it keep progressing, a new study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology found. They were also more dilated upon arrival at the hospital and labored seven hours less. “Dates seem to have a compound that mimics the hormone oxytocin [which causes contractions],” says Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics spokeswoman Melinda Johnson, M.s., R.d. Enjoy six dates daily for best results."
i just bought a couple packs of dates on my last grocery trip. They're pretty tasty.
