    @MissLace: I've never heard of eating dates to help with labor. It's interesting to hear about all these things people are trying. Let me know if it helps!

    @MissLace: I will put it on my shopping list! I happen to love dates! And I am willing to give it a try!

    Found it! Small but legitimate study... Only 6 dates a day and all these benefits?! Why isn't this better known?! Can't hurt to try! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21280989

    @MissLace: I know someone who ate dates and said it worked amazing. She had a short, effective labour! She keeps telling me to get some but the concept is grossing me out! What are they like? Can anyone describe the texture and taste?

    @MissLace: I had heard it, but hadn't tried. I'm going to pick some up! I've been drinking RRL tea and started taking Evening Primrose Oil.

    We just had the craziest thunder/lightning storm I've ever seen! It was actually scary, and I don't get scared by storms very easily. I think the summer heat caused an absurd amount of lightning. There was more light in the sky than when all the fireworks were going off last weekend! It seems to have passed for now, but all I hear are sirens, so I'm sure damage was done. My in-laws who live near us don't have power, so they might come over if it doesn't go back on soon. Crazy weather! I'm glad I'm not having a baby tonight!

    @aprild: We had some crazy storms today, too, but they were over a few hours ago. Not sure where you are, but we're on the coast. The thunder woke LO up from his nap early

    @aprild: Eekk!! I don't like storms when they get to the point that they worry me. Hope everyone is ok! The L&D nurses at my work always talk about the I influx in deliveries when the barometric pressure changes drastically with a storm, glad it didn't send you in to labour!

    @MissLace: I just read about the dates thing earlier this week.
    For anyone eating them, if you want a good snack, put a tiny bit of peanutbutter on each one! amazing!
    My wife told me I need to be doing all these things; evening primrose oil, black or blue
    Cohosh, nipple stimulation, and lots and lots of sex. She reccomended these especially since she won't do any sort of medical induction for a VBAC. My husband was quite interested in some of them, as you can imagine. I feel like she clearly doesn't remember what a circus end of pregnancy sex can be!

    Question - what is evening primrose oil supposed to do??

    Definitely willing to hop on the date wagon!

    @lilteacherbee: I imagine they probably moved from the coast over to where I am. I live in the city that shares it's name with the new princess.

    @getjazzy: I heard that the pressure change can send people into labor. Same thing with full moons, right?

    @OhCaptain: End of pregnancy sex is not my favorite! It doesn't help that I feel huge right now compared to DH. Plus, it's so uncomfortable to find a position that works. Ugh, I wish I could just abstain until 6 weeks postpartum, but I know DH wouldn't be too happy if we didn't ever do it again before the baby is born.

    @Mrs. J: That's crazy!

    Haha someone posted this pregnancy meme in one of my FB groups

    @aprild: haha LO was born under the full moon too! I didn't go into labor that day, but that's the day he was born.

    @aprild: lol totally. I feel like such a whale every time. Especially when we do it at night - the later in the day it gets, the harder it is it move around. So I end up just rolling around the bed like a huge seal!

    @AprilD LOL! That pic, I'm dying!! I am not allowed to have sex until I get to 37 weeks since it might send me into preterm labor. Too bad. I also feel you on the storms! I am in Florida (on the coast) and I am a little afraid of going into labor when there's a hurricane coming! It's unlikely but not impossible this time of year!

    I'm officially 34 weeks today!!!! Yeehaw. So excited to have made it this far.

    @MrsADS: good job keeping that baby in there!!

    omg 28 days to go. I'm in the twenties!!!

    How about everyone else? I love countdowns! Is anyone in the teens yet!?

    @buttermilk: Evening primrose oil is suppose to help soft and thin out the cervix. It won't dilate you but by thinning you out, it makes if easier for the baby and your body do the dilation. There are some controversies about it because studies have shown it isn't effective and since it's also a blood thinner, it *could* increase chances of bleeding/hemmorage. It hasn't been studied very much which I guess is one of the issues with it but lots and lots of people use it and when I was doing my googling, a ton of people reported shorter and less painful labours. Some also actually reported that it helps prevent tearing? Who knows! Planning to ask my OB about it today.

    Almost in the teens! 20 days over here!

    @buttermilk: ack! I'm in the teens! 18 days for me.
    Also, evening primrose oil is supposed to help "ripen" the cervix.

    @MrsADS: Yay! Hope baby stays put a bit longer.

    @buttermilk: I'm at 31 days if you go by my EDD (29 if you go by when I think I O'ed). But I'm definitely feeling like I'll be happy if this baby arrives a couple weeks ahead of schedule. I've been struggling the last few days-- physically exhausted (even when I get a decent night's sleep), strange bouts of nausea in the evenings and I feel like I've pulled a muscle in my crotch. My walks to/from the metro for work everyday are starting to become challenging too.

    I spent an hour last night googling early signs of labor-- not sure at this point whether it is anxiety or wishful thinking

    I have my 36 week appointment and my GBS test tomorrow!

    This is going to sound weird, but I hope my baby isn't born in July. I doubt he will be more than 9 days early, but I have negative associations with guys born in July. All of my college ex boyfriends were July babies - isn't that crazy? I didn't find this out until I had been dating each of them a little while, and they would tell me their birthdays. After having bad breakups with most of them, I decided that guys born in July just weren't for me. My husband is born in March, so he broke the trend. Anyway, I know it's crazy, but it's always stuck with me lol.

    @buttermilk: It's so weird! Sunday and Monday both, I felt fine all day and then 5-6pm hits and I feel like I'm going to barf for no apparent reason. It usually goes away after an hour or two but I have to force myself to eat dinner. So strange.

    I read about the dates thing yesterday!!! Im not a huge fan of dates though so I think Ill skip that one...Im planning on taking EPO starting around 38/39 weeks. I read taking 2 orally and putting one in vaginally (at night) can make a difference. Fingers crossed all these "natural" remedies work for us!

    My friend, who was due on Aug 1st, had her baby last night!!!! She's gone early with all of her kiddos though so this was not a shock. Still crazy to think we're all so close!!! I've got 22 more days until my guess date!

    My 37 week appointment is tonight along with my GBS test. I'm hoping all my probiotics are doing their job and cleaning my system up!

    Speaking of weather and full moons....anyone notice the end of July/beginning of August there is a full moon for 3 days!!!!! Im really hoping I last until my guess date...I don't want my hospital to go on divert & end up delivering somewhere else!

    Mmm I love dates so I'll definitely be giving that a try!

    I had a little scare last night. I went to bed feeling a bit crampy and then woke up in the middle of the night in quite a bit of pain. It was mainly concentrated in my lower left abdomen and lower back. It was so painful that I couldn't sit still. The pain was constant but I could still feel my uterus tightening every once in awhile. I tried timing it and it would happen every 5-20 mins so there didn't seem to be any real pattern to it. I started panicking that I was in labor. It subsided enough for me to go back to sleep after about 2-2.5 hours though and this morning I feel fine. Not sure what all that was about but it was scary.

    @MissLace: My doula mentioned dates!

    I'm willing to try just about anything, but I'm with @getjazzy:-- don't really know much about dates. Are those the super-sweet little chewy cubes in some trail mix? If not, what does a real date taste and feel like?

    @aprild: OMG! BEST meme EVER!!!!

    ETA: 30 days to go!

    @Portboston: wait I'm confused now. How is this full moon thing possible?

  33. Portboston

    persimmon / 1281 posts

    @buttermilk: I don't know!!!! I was looking at a moon calendar and it said its full for July 31- Aug 2!!! Ok I checked again...its actually 100% full on the 31st, then Aug 1st its 99%. Then Aug 2nd is 95%. So technically only one day. PHEW

    Are you guys having cervical checks dome at your weekly appts at this point? I have an appt in an hour and can't decide. I'm 36 Wks. Don't expect to be anything rly, but curious. But my Hypnobabies instructor advised against it bc it can give a false sense of hope or doubt, since it really doesn't tell you anything at all in terms of when you'll have the baby.

    @buttermilk: I plan to, but I'm an information junkie! I think it depends on your personality, if you'd rather focus on numbers or how you are feeling. No right or wrong, just preference!
