@buttermilk: Ive decided not to for exactly why your hypno teacher said. A friend of mine had her baby in May...at her 37 week appt she was 3 cm dilated so she was convinced baby was going to come any minute. She kind of stopped doing things besides sticking close to home. She ended up delivering 2 days before her guess date.

@Mrs. Microscope: @Portboston: yeah, I think I should decline, especially for being so early on. I bet the midwives aren't even offering yet!

@buttermilk: Ill consent if I get to 41 weeks...or slightly over 41 weeks. My midwife won't start talking induction until 42 weeks (they won't let me go past 42+6 if all is well) and they're more likely to push induction if Im at 41 weeks and completely closed/not effaced at all. So I figure I can wait until then! I'm a total control freak though so its going to be tough not to know!

@buttermilk: I had my first last week at my 36 week appt along with my GBS swab. I was 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. I totally understand that women can walk around that way for weeks without anything happening so it doesn't really mean anything to me. I'm going to continue getting them done if my OB suggests them just because I'm curious.

@buttermilk: I did last week at 36 weeks because my doctor needed to do my GBS swab anyway so I figured what the heck, I'm pant less already. No dilation. She said baby's head was there and had dropped but had room to drop some more. I have another appointment today but we decided last week to skip the cervical check today. Possibly to resume next week at 38 weeks.

@getjazzy: @Mrs.Scientist: @Portboston: I feel all of these ways! Heck I'll just play it by ear and see what they say today. If they don't offer I won't ask!

@buttermilk: 21 days for me! If they offer, I may have them check tomorrow at 37 weeks. Id then wait until 39 after that. Last time, I was disappointingly barely dilated FOREVER. I also went ten days overdue.

I had my 36 week appt this morning, and my doctor did a cervical check, but didn't tell me the results of it - just said everything looks exactly the way it should. So who the heck knows?! Definitely going to pick up some dates from the grocery store if I can remember though!

I really wish it was acceptable for me to wear yoga or pajama pants to work! I'm wearing a pair of what were my comfiest maternity dress pants as of like last week but now they are starting to cut into my belly and are just not comfortable while sitting at my desk.

Also, has anyone started to get pain/burning in their nips? Mine have been burning really bad lately. I'm sure it means my milk is coming in but I don't remember this happening before I had DS.

@Mrs.Scientist: I agree, I've more or less given up on pants. Even leggings aren't as super comfy as they used to be. Annnd I second the nipple pain, but only on the left side?!

@Mrs.Scientist: this happened to me yesterday! I've been having cramps and Braxton hicks. But all of a sudden I was having pain along the left side of my uterus. Like stabbing pain. I sat down and out my feet up and drank like 32 ounces of water and it went away. But for a minute I really thought I was going to have to call my husband.

I had my OB appoint yesterday with Bio Physicial Profile and NST. Baby looked great on the Bio Physical profile and has flipped to Vertex again. Plenty of Fluid, but since she was breech forever than Vertex than Breech again they have a tenative section scheduled for 7/23. I have an appointment on 7/22 to see if she's still Vertex and if not C-Section on the 23rd and if she' still Vertex we talk induction. My orginal due date based on LMP is 8/3 but based on the IUI dates it was changed to 7/30. Since I'm almost 42 I won't be allowed to go past 7/30. So I'm down to 16 days max. My NST was crazy, I had to be hooked up for almost an hour to pass. I think my OB only passed me since the Bio Physical Profile was so good. I'm physically ready to be done, but everything else no way. OUr dryer died Saturday so we are waiting on a new one so that has put a major stop on washing Baby clothes and preparing our toddler's big girl room.

@getjazzy: Haha I totally think about stuff that way, too! Like, when it was March Madness and my team lost, I told DH "well the next time we watch them play, we'll have 2 kids!"

@Mrs.Scientist: All I can say is, thank goodness I'm on summer break. If I'm home, I'm not wearing pants. If I'm not home, I'm in yoga capris or shorts. And I started having nipple pain too. My BFF is 7 weeks behind me (her first) and she was telling me that she started leaking and I was like, I wonder why I haven't yet because I know it started around 30 weeks with my first. Anddd the next day, I was totally leaking haha.

@kayakgirl73: Oh wow, looks like we may have our next baby soon!! How are you feeling about the possible c-section?

  15. lilteacherbee

I had my 36 week appt and GBS swab today. They also did a finger stick and apparently, my iron is low, so I get to take iron supplements. Woohoo. I scheduled my next 3 weekly appointments and then it will be baby time!! Still can't really believe it haha.

@lilteacherbee: I'm scared about the C-section, hoping to avoid one since I have a toddler, but worried about the uncertainty. I don't want to go in for an Induction and have the baby flip in the middle of it or go into labor and get to the hospital and find out oops breech again. She was really moving about an hour ago I hope she didn't flip breech again.

Welp, turns out my midwives don't even do cervical checks until past your due date. Everything about baby is perfect still. Head down, low, nice heartbeat. I asked her about EPO, RRL, dates - they don't have a recommendation and said to just do whatever I want lol.

@kayakgirl73: wow so soon! I would have a hard time dealing with the uncertainty too, but I hope you get the outcome you want.

@Mrs.Scientist: @lilteacherbee: I feel very lucky that I get to wear leggings at work every day! Idk what I would do otherwise. Although, working in a kitchen can get very hot. Yesterday the a/c was broken and I work with very hot ovens. It was at least 85 degrees all day and I thought I was gonna die! Permanent swamp ass. But they fixed it today phew.

I tested positive for GBS. I guess it's not really a huge deal. Just get to the hospital ASAP if my water breaks, but don't they want you to do that anyway?

@buttermilk: I'm positive too you would have had more time if you were negative.

    cherry / 211 posts

@kayakgirl73: I hope you get that new dryer soon and that you get to go the induction route rather than c-section.

@buttermilk: ack, glad they got the AC working again. I think I would die having to work around hot ovens with no AC right now!

@lilteacherbee: No leaking here yet that I've noticed but definitely lots of nipple pain. Super jealous that you are on summer break and get to enjoy comfy pants!

    @lilteacherbee: so so soon!!!

@buttermilk: glad baby is doing well! My midwife told me I can stay home as long as I feel comfortable after my waters rupture, if I am GBS negative. But, if Im positive, I have to go in straight away & they will do the meds early and I can leave and come back (I think...I could be wrong though).

@kayakgirl73: I thought babies usually stay put after a certain week....is it common for them to flip around that much? I don't think my little guy has enough space to move!

    @lilteacherbee: ahhh can't believe you're so close!

@Portboston: @Mrs. J: Right?! I'm in denial What scares me/is exciting is that when I was counting down school days at the end of the year, once we got past 20, they FLEW by. And those didn't even include weekends. I feel like it's going to be here soooo soon!!

@kayakgirl73: Well I hope she flips down and stays that way and you have a successful induction!! I completely understand the fear of uncertainty, though. That's one reason I scheduled a RCS.

  27. kayakgirl73

    clementine / 750 posts

@Portboston: most babies stay head down or breech after 36 weeks not miss flip flop.

@getjazzy: I would compare the taste/texture similar to a giant raisin. You can also get the dried dates that are chopped up, those taste like candy.

@buttermilk: I"m not having cervical checks done. I opted not to with my last pregnancy as well. I figured they aren't medically necessary, and they don't seem very useful, so I would rather not go through the process of getting them done. I'm not someone who enjoys stripping down and having someone poking around my vagina.

@kayakgirl73: That's so soon! I hope you get your dryer quickly, so you can finish your preparations.

@lilteacherbee: Wow, just 3 more appointments! Baby will be here soon!

  31. Portboston

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@buttermilk: just saw my midwife...at my hospital if you're GBS positive you only have to go in when your waters rupture. If your water doesn't rupture, you can go in as you normally would during labor! If your hospital has a similar policy, hopefully your waters stay intact!!

My husband came home from work today and was ready to get stuff done! He installed the carseat, cleaned and changed the litter in the litter boxes, and finished taking out empty boxes to the recycling bin. He usually comes home and wants to put his feet up, so I was surprised he was doing all these things without complaint. When I asked what his motivation was, he said the baby is coming soon. I told him I'm only 36 weeks, and he said he thinks the baby is coming sooner than my due date. I personally don't feel that way, but if it gets him to do stuff, then I'll let him think what he wants.

Am I the only one who is all about the cervical checks??? I won't get one til 37 weeks but I was so glad I did last time. That's when they told me my pelvic opening was more oblong and that delivery might be harder. It was- but it allowed me to prepare and I felt more empowered about how my labor would go. And yeah I still pushed for hours! I did have to TELL myself that you could be not dialated and go into labor the next day or you could hang out at 3cm for weeks.

  34. kjpugs

    grapefruit / 4862 posts

I should add- by all about the checks, I mean I am good with getting them done but I definitely don't enjoy the process! BLEGH.

  35. OhCaptain

    kiwi / 696 posts

@kjpugs: my curiosity also gets the best of me. I'll be having one tomorrow at 37+4. I'm not expecting much.
Not to get too TMI on anyone but last night was the first time I used evening primrose oil internally and I couldn't even feel my cervix, which made me think it's still way high and way closed. Then again, maybe my belly was just impinging my reach.

Also, on a different note, my husband has decided he wants to lose weight. So while I've gained 3.5'pounds in the last two weeks, he's lost 17! I told him to stop (jokingly) becasue I kept finding the weight he was losing.

  36. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

Oh yeah, forgot to add earlier that I'm not doing any checks. They offered today, but I said nope. First of all, I'm having a c-section, so kinda pointless, but also, in the words of @aprild: I totally don't enjoy people poking around my vagina. I may have winced a little during the GBS swab today, soo cervical checks sound like not something I'd wanna do

    Hi ladies! Been reading along.
18 days until my due date!
Not planning to use EPO since I'm pretty sure they effect blood somehow and since I have a bleeding disorder I need my blood to be as normal as possible! Going to try nipple stimulation, sex and walking next week though. Woke up feeling pretty blah today - just so exhausted and grumpy! Had some period like cramping that came and went for a few hours but they seem to have eased off. Plus have had so much pressure down below that it hurts to stand up and walk.

    We are all so close!

  38. MrsStar

    nectarine / 2994 posts

Oh and my midwife doesn't do cervical checks/sweeps until labor/asked for so I might ask at 39 weeks for a check and a sweep.

  39. Portboston

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@aprild: husband getting stuff done??? I think my husband needs some tips from yours! I agree...let him think whatever he wants!

@kjpugs: I'm super curious to know if I'm dilated at all and I agree, as long as you know you can be at 3 for weeks, then it's no big deal! But I think it might get my hopes up a little. My midwife didn't offer and I'm pretty sure they won't for another few more weeks anyway!

@MrsStar: I did read that about EPO but from what I could find there's nothing proven. But definitely smart to err on the side of caution if you already have blood issues!

My midwife said baby is head down slightly left transverse. (LOT) which apparently is a very common presentation before baby engages so she said that position usually turns anterior by the time baby drops. Whoo!
