@Pirouette: I started wearing DS really soon after he was born (via csection). Anything but an SSC should be fine. Wrap, mei tai, stretchy, ring sling, etc. SSCs hit at your hips near the incision, but the others don't go get near it.

@ShootingStar: that is good to know! i have a k'tan and a tula, so i'd probably have to wait a while on the tula + infant insert, but should be able to use the k'tan early on (assuming he hits the minimum weight limit earlier than his sister). I thought there was a weight limit for carrying things after a c section but i'm guessing that's more for carrying my 25lb toddler, not wearing my newborn.

@Pirouette: I think the rule of thumb is don't pick up anything heavier than your baby .

So I went a little nuts today on Etsy . I bought a bunch of accessories, both for regular every day use, and we also decided to do our own newborn shoot. DH is a pretty good photographer and we decided just to have him do it.

I got these 3 headbands, but with the middle one in "Wisteria" (light purple).

And then I got a bunch of stuff for the photos - headbands, cheesecloth wrap, and tiny crown.

Cheesecloth/headband set, though I got it in light pink...

@ShootingStar: So cute! Do you have backdrops and stuff?

  7. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah, a few months ago DH got an at home studio studio set. So we have a white backdrop and one with little lights, I think. I also want to get a floor cover that looks like a wood floor, like in that picture above with the teal wrap.

We figured we'd get a few things and not spend $600 on photos. They won't be professional, but they'll still be pretty good. So we got a basket, a white blanket, I'm going to get a fuzzy pink one, and then the accessories.

@ShootingStar: Fun! Yea it sounds like you have a great set up! We always liked using the boppy pillow or a big square Euro pillow covered in a blanket or whatever for baby to lay on.

Got a big amazon order in, and ordered the last two rugs for our bedroom. I think when everything comes in (assuming we like it all) our bedroom will be just about finished! We are waiting on delivery of shutters, curtains, and the rugs.

Got some stuff for diapering today- a new diaper pail, two packs of cloth wipes, and some things we are going to try for a wipe solution (and a squirt bottle). Also a new humidifier for our room, so my daughter can keep hers.

I've also finished stripping and sanitizing our newborn and small sized prefolds, so they should be ready to go!

@Pirouette: @Agold: @LCTBQE: A few months ago on the other thread you ladies asked to see pics of our National Parks themed nursery (which I put together for our LO but will be shared eventually by this baby unless we lose our minds and decide to convert our dining room to another nursery...).

Well, I finally found the pics and remembered to post them. I'm not sure if you can see, but Yellowstone is featured prominently (the vintage felt wall hanging above her crib, the bison/moose heads both inspired by it, and one of the vintage-reproduction posters on the opposite wall), and I am SO EXCITED to be taking LO there along with this in utero baby in less than two months!!!! Yay!

Let me know if anyone has questions on where we got stuff. I was GREATLY inspired in the design by a number of the awesome inspiration boards at laybabylay.com - she has amazing taste! I can say that it is probably our favorite room in the apartment and we hang out there constantly. Not pictured is the brown Keekaroo Peanut changer (LOVE!!) that used to live on top of the vintage dresser while LO was a newborn but we moved to the top of a slightly lower bookshelf in the hallway just outside the room as lifting her up so high on that dresser became a pain. I would highly, highly recommend the Keekaroo instead of a changing pad with cover.

@stratosphere: That is such a lovely, clean and bright nursery!! Is that glider the Milo? Are you happy with the pouf instead of a gliding ottoman?

  14. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@stratosphere: wow, SO cool!!! I love all the details. also, what an awesome sunlit room she has!

  15. stratosphere

    apricot / 329 posts

@agold: Thanks! The glider is the Graham Glider at West Elm in Performance Velvet (in Toast): http://www.westelm.com/products/graham-glider-g667/?pkey=cliving-room-chairs%7C%7C

I LOVE that glider. I tried quite a few, but this one is perfect. I love the wings as I could snooze with head support while nursing. I would especially recommend it for tall people - I'm 6'0" and the back is high enough to support my head (which was not the case with pretty much any other glider I tried).

I am also SUPER glad we went with a pouf instead of the gliding ottomon. The pouf is light and easy to move around the room when we want to open up the space for playing (those ottomons are monstrously big and heavy) and provides just the right elevation and something to push off of while rocking baby to sleep. It was also significantly less $$ than the matching gliding ottomon!

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@stratosphere: Yes, the ottomans are so very expensive. The one I would need is over $500! Yikes! Good point about the pouf being able to be moved easily. That may actually be just the tipping point in making my decision to choose a pouf over an ottoman. Thanks!

@stratosphere: that's the glider I got too! I also didn't get the matching ottoman. What is this pouf you're talking about?! Pic?

Ooh. I see it in your pic, where from?

  19. stratosphere

    apricot / 329 posts

@Autumnmama79: We also got the pouf at West Elm. They no longer have the exact one we got, but some very similar ones. Target also has some cute ones I've seen in the past year or so!

@agold: DH finished the organizer today! Now, we're loading everything back into the closet lol. I love the drawers, they're super handy for socks, bibs, and onesies! We'll probably get another shelf piece for the right side for more toy bins.

    @mrschickpea: very pretty!

Here is our messy nursery closet. A few girl things hanging on the left. At the very top you can see the extra shelf we added. I need to clean it off because it's mostly just presents I'm saving for bday parties or their birthday.

@mrschickpea: Looks great! Baby's closet still needs to be cleared of random boxes, a cabinet, and some other stuff. I guarantee it won't look as good as yours even when done!

  27. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@mrschickpea: OMG. I absolutely love it. Its exactly what I would want for my closet. I'm sort of thinking we will be doing a big fat nothing to it since we don't DIY and i fear its going to cost too much. We want to move in a year and hate to spend anything on the house. But gees I want a closet like yours more than anything!

@T.H.O.U.: I like the little cubbies you added on the bottom of your closet.

@agold: thanks! It's the IKEA Kallax and it works great! Still room on either side for taller storage if needed and their clothes don't come anywhere near the top of the shelf (even DD size 5t). Later on we may move them out as bookshelves so it's a multipurpose investment.

Oh and FYI- someone recommended a baby medicine basket and it's been a life saver for us. Specific stuff for baby like extra thermometer, pedialyte, etc

@T.H.O.U.: Link or example of a baby medicine basket?

  32. mrschickpea

    clementine / 928 posts

@pwnstar: it's different parts of the closetmaid collection from Home Depot. I was actually surprised by the decent quality, especially the drawers, they're my favorite part!

  33. mrschickpea

    clementine / 928 posts

@agold: it really needed something in there, it was completely empty when we started with only a single rail running 3/4 (??) of.p the way across for clothing! I really wanted to go Container Store crazy with one of their systems but couldn't justify the price This one was a very budget friendly alternative from Home Depot! It's worth my sanity

  34. mrschickpea

    clementine / 928 posts

@T.H.O.U.: yes, yes! Baby medicine basket link!

  35. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@mrschickpea: I always feel that sanity is worth almost anything!! Mine is a single rail going all the way across. We have a sort of ugly cheap natural wood chest of drawers in the middle section. I assume we will just keep it there. I'm going to use half of one side that will be blocked by the rocker for storage of suitcases, wrapping paper and deflated air mattress. Baby girl will get the rest. Its not going to be all picture-worthy cute. I need to accept that (but I just haven't yet!) I really am hoping to get new closet doors at the very least. Cheap ones from home depot that just have a small detailing on them, or even the cheap mirrored style. But yours really does look perfect.

@T.H.O.U.: I'd like the baby medicine basket link, also, please!

  36. T.H.O.U.

I'll think tomorrow and come up with a list. We put our basket together almost five years ago!

@T.H.O.U.: Oh? I guess I thought you meant that you got a special physical container to act as medicine basket.

  38. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@pregnantbee: yes! It was recommended something with a snap on lid and clear sides. We have a label that clearly says baby medicine so anyone that may be watching baby can easily locate it. You can see it on the shelf with a yellow tag

DH is building baby girl's dresser from IKEA. It's so much more complicated than I thought it would be. We're also replacing the drawer pulls that came with it with "crystal" ones instead to make it a little girlier. So far, 2 trips to Home Depot/Lowe's for better length screws for those. Ha!

ETA: Dresser doubles as changing table.
