@Cole: Brace yourself ... my insurance paid $3.11 of my blood work. Yet, I pay $550 a month to cover myself and LO. Totallyyyyy makes sense.

@littlejoy: woohoo! That probably really helped your budget

@littlejoy: Do you pay a global fee? I had an issue with an ultrasound bill when pregnant with DD and was told most insurance covers 2 ultrasounds unless more are considered medically necessary. I would definitely call - I bet they filed it wrong.

@peachykeen: I'm not quite sure yet. I am working with a midwife practice, which I believe has a global fee. But since they don't offer u/s within their office, I assume all tests and scans will cost extra. I just emailed my insurance for a detailed explanation of maternity benefits. Sigh.

@Cole: @peachykeen: @littlejoy: you're all making me nervous! Ive been under care of an RE so have had extra scans - hoping I'm mostly covered. Haven't received any bills yet.

@Revel: Fingers crossed for you! What's weird is that I keep receiving claims reports, which list my patient responsibility, but I've yet to receive any bills from the individual providers (it's been MONTHS since I've received a bill). Weird.

@Revel: I had several extra scans with my pregnancy with DD - all were covered as they were physician-ordered and considered medically necessary (done through the maternal-fetal medicine office due to a possible anomaly on our anatomy scan and later pre-eclampsia monitoring - all turned out fine).

@Revel: last pregnancy I was under RE care. I have no infertility coverage, but once I was pregnant my ultrasounds were covered.

So this week has been challenging, but not as hard as I expected. DD got a spot at a Mother's Day Out program and started today. So I'm at work without her for the first time! Yay! The time of day that I'm sick has also shifted to night so I don't feel bad until after she's in bed. My aunt visited with us yesterday, took us to lunch, and then put DD down for her nap. It was nice. DD has been walking around asking for "dada" so hopefully he makes it home before bed tomorrow. I'm so glad it's a long weekend.

@littlejoy: If they don't cover any ultrasounds I would be incredibly angry. Ultrasounds literally save lives, and I would consider them critical to proper prenatal care. I don't even want to think about how things could have turned out for me if I hadn't had ultrasounds with my first viable pregnancy.

Also, for everyone struggling with constipation (especially from the zofran; it's the worst!), I cannot recommend magnesium enough. It's a total life saver. And my midwives absolutely recommend it as well. Just don't take too much. I didn't realize once that when I switched brands the dose went from two pills to one, and that was not pleasant. 😆

@Torchwood: magnesium saved me my first pregnancy but I'm still nursing at bed and nap time and somehow it destroys my lo's stomach, every single time I take it she poops like ten times the next day, it really sucks! I took a regular stool softener today, hopefully enough of it stayed down to work. The knob on our bathtub is broken so I can't even try a bath in Epsom salts. I'll have to see if dh can fix it this weekend.

Unpleasant new symptom for me today, a migraine. I have a history of hormonal migraine but haven't had one in ages. I had a rough time with them around 12-14 weeks with my pregnancy with my daughter, so hoping not to repeat that. I forgot how unpleasant they are... figures that I was feeling decent on the nausea front today- hormones must be shifting!

  14. Revel

@Torchwood: how much magnesium was recommended for you? I stopped taking my regular supplement when I got pregnant but have read it can be supportive in the first tri.

  15. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Revel: Since I was already taking it (I've taken it for years) we never discussed an amount. But I currently do one 500mg pill per day and I haven't had any issues this pregnancy.

@Mrs. Blue: oh yeah. I am CONSTANTLY exhausted and super sore boobs. Also, I'm going on about a week now of crazy weird dreams!

@torchwood: I definitely am trying to enjoy it, although I'm also kinda bracing myself for it coming out of nowhere. I'm an 8th grade math teacher, so it makes it super difficult for me to run out of the room if I have to throw up!

  17. Cole

@Revel: I believe I was told start with 500 and then if needed I could increase to 1000. The general advice for non pregnant people is to increase every couple of days until you reach bowel tolerance and then back off.

Appointment is today! I didn't sleep well, as I'm so worried. Been up since 5, feeling so nauseous. And I have all day to wait! Ugh. Trying to keep busy, hopefully we get good news and hear a beautiful heartbeat (because at 8+ weeks there is no good outcome without one)

@Mrs. Microscope: thinking of you! Hope the time passes quickly today.

I'm still totally wiped out from my migraine yesterday. Finally somewhat coming out of it after a few cups of strong tea. Trying to get work done remotely and hanging in for my acupuncture appointment this afternoon. I feel so good for like 24 hours after, I'm hoping that will hold for today. Also, hit 8 weeks today, first midwife appointment on Monday!

@Mrs. Microscope: Thinking good thoughts for you! Mine is today too... It feels like it has taken FORVEVER for this day to get here.

@Mrs. Microscope: @sparklemama: Fingers crossed for two great reports from you guys after your appointments!

@Revel: glad you're feeling better, I hope acupuncture is helpful! I've been thinking of trying it but there isn't anyone nearby. My friends who do it drive an hour away and that seems crazy to me because I'd need to hire a sitter then-nothing like adding at least $30 to the cost...

I seem to have finally found my groove with medication but I feel guilty for taking medication around the clock. I can just about function like a normal person though on the max dose of diclegis plus 2mg of zofran (plus colace...) Smells are soooo bad still and drinking is hard but I'm getting there. I actually went out and bought maternity jeans this morning. I can technically still get into my jeans but when I sit they dig into my belly and it makes me feel sick.

@Cole: I am so happy you're finding your groove. I'm excited for all of us to be in our 2nd trimesters and feeling NORMAL again!!!

Good luck to all of you who have appointments today. Can't wait for updates.

Appointment went well! Baby is measuring 9 weeks exactly with a heart rate of 173. I'm super curious about the old wives tale since I think I remember DS's hr usually being in the 150s.

@Cole: hopefully the nausea starts tapering off soon! It's seriously such a struggle... I feel for you!

  24. littlejoy

    pomegranate / 3375 posts

@sparklemama: Yay!!! And, I was thinking the same thing about the HR. Our first LO is a girl, and her HR was consistently above 150 (like in the 160's).

@littlejoy: It's so funny because in my mind I know these old wives tales are just that.. tales! And I know they can be wrong (I had morning sickness with my first and horrible heartburn and he came out a bald baby boy!). But it's still so fun to speculate and guess. I also did the ring string test and it said boy, then girl, then stopped. Mayan and Chinese calendars also both said boy the first time for me and girl this time. Too bad the blood test is so expensive so we opted out of it!

We have a happy little baby in there! HR in the mid 150's, and they moved my due date to August 22 (why it matters 1 day, who knows). So relieved!

Next appointment for Verify draw and NT scan is Feb. 14

@sparklemama: @Mrs. Microscope: Glad to hear your appointments went so well!!

I'm anxious to try to hear baby's heartbeat on Tuesday, but still feeling plenty of symptoms so I know I shouldn't worry too much.

    @Mrs. Microscope: Hurray!
@peachykeen: I go in Tuesday too and I'm anxious also. I have the slight advantage of the fact that Tuesday is with the home birth midwives who will try with Doppler but Wednesday I have my OB appointment and he will try with Doppler and if still no luck he will do an ultrasound immediately. They draw for nipt Wed too, I'm so excited!

We still haven't told family (or many other people at all, I think 5 people might know?) and I can't decide if we should tell them after the we find out the sex at this point? I kind of feel like lose some of the fun if we announce both the pregnancy and the sex at the same time though. I like the guessing and speculating! I'm open to ideas for telling family that's far away, I seriously have no clue what we're going to do. I kind of want to do something fun but I don't have any great ideas.

My tiny victory for today- it will be the first time since before Christmas that I've peed 4x in one day!

@Cole: Glad you're starting to feel a little better - I hope it keeps improving for you! I'm doing my NIPT draw on Tuesday as well. We didn't do the testing with DD and I made DH promise not to tell his parents that we'll know the sex early because I really don't want to tell them (or anyone) that early. I figure we'll probably share closer to 20 weeks like last time.

Ugh, sorry I just caught up on all the posts now. I've been having a miserable first tri. So much puking and so tired I pretty much work and come home, eat and go to bed at the same time as my three year old.
I have my first ultrasound on Tuesday and then maybe I'll feel better about joining this group for real once I've got some visible proof that this is actually happening.

I don't know why I just realized this but something just occurred to me. I've never left LO overnight. Once we get the genetic screening results we plan to do our first overnight away so we can start getting her used to it well before the baby comes and I'm gone at the hospital. I was kind of dreading it, since it seems like a big milestone and made me sad. But wait! She still doesn't sleep through the night. If I leave her for the night, I GET TO SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 18 MONTHS. So yeah, I'm ready now please!

@sparklemama: @Mrs. Microscope: SO SO happy for you both!! I know how nervous I am for mine, which is still almost 2 weeks out, and how relieved I'd be to hear that everything was fine. It's almost too hard to put into words!

@sapphiresun: I'm sorry you've been feeling so horrible! Hopefully the appointment on Tuesday will give you an extra jolt of encouragement!

@sparklemama: @Mrs. Microscope: Glad everything looked great!

@Sapphiresun: I'm totally with you on the first trimester. I'm 9 weeks and counting down the days. I feel like crap, which I guess is good since I don't have an ultrasound until 10 1/2 weeks and at least it's giving me a little bit of peace of mind. DH is gone today and they boys were CRAZY this morning and I kept having to run to the bathroom to puke. Today: 27; Me: 0

@Mrs. Blue: @Sapphiresun: oh my goodness! I feel you on the countdown- i find myself longing for the days in my first pregnancy when I could just rest and do whatever I needed. Logically I know I will feel a bit better in time but I worry what if this whole pregnancy is like this! 8 and 1 today tick tock tick tock

@Sapphiresun: @Mrs. Blue: If it helps, I'm 10w2d and feeling okay about 50% of the time lately. I weaned off the B6 + unisom and the dizziness is more prevalent the last week but I felt good enough to go for coffee & donuts and played with DD at the park for about 2 hours this morning.

Took a nap while DD napped and of course I'm nauseous again now but I think there's hope for all of us!

I woke up this morning feeling pretty good and cooked my family a big breakfast. All day I've been ok, except I go from not hungry to ravenous in about 30 seconds. I'm probably turning a corner and should be happy! Instead I just think "I'm probably going to miscarry." Sigh.

@Mrs. Pickle: that's exactly how I've been starting at 9w exactly. I was so sick before then & now am feeling pretty good. My doctor says it's not uncommon & to try and enjoy it. Of course easier said than done. Only a few more weeks of first tri!
