I'm looking for some help here. I bathe lo in our kitchen sink and he sits on his bottom. I can't get him to look up to get his hair wet and I don't know how to not get everything in his eyes.
I know it's no tear, but he hates when the water gets in his eyes.
How do you bathe lo?

We're still using the infant tub inside of the regular bath tub. It always helps to have dh there to talk to him or distract him so he'll look up and I can wash his hair. He hates getting water in his eyes but sometimes it's really hard to avoid!

I get in the tub with her (our tub is really too big for her, and it's easier than kneeling over the other tubs in the house). For her hair, I put my hand against her front hairline to form a barrier and squeeze water on her scalp from a washcloth (while also trying to position her head in the best *up* position possible). She doesn't have too much hair though, so it's pretty easy for me to do. She has even let me hold her and run her head under the faucet a couple of times . . . although it was when she was really tired, and I was also nursing her in the process.

Did all of your LOs develop the aversion to water over their faces when they got older? I'm wondering if this is coming down the pike for us. We've been outing a small pitcher of water over LOs head at the end of the bath since the beginning she she still seems to like it at this point (almost 5 months).

I just pour it over her head and she has gotten use to it. It sounds bad but it has helped her get use to it. I do watch that it doesn't go all in her eyes. She won't hang her hair back so the water goes behind her.

I had to lay her back in the big tub and quickly pour water back over her head. she wasn't a fan but I talked and sang her through it! as she got older and had more body control while sitting, I'd hold my hand on her forehead while the other poured water back over her head. then i'd dab her eyes with a dry cloth. she got used to it pretty quick!

@Anagram: My LO only minds water in her face when it's deluge-like. Otherwise, unless she's super tired or sick, she does okay with water in her face.

@Anagram: my lo never experienced it until he started sitting up in the bath. Most of his hair is right up top and since he won't lean or tilt his head it goes straight to his face. He also hates for me to wipe his face or nose. I think that started around when we started solids.

We are lucky that he doesn't mind some water running down his face. We still bath in the sink and sometimes pull out the faucet to rinse him like a shower.

Well DH was in charge of bath time so she just got used to water being poured over her head. Now she even knows where the towel hangs and if she's annoyed with the water will walk over and wipe her own face.

Take a swimming class (seriously changed everything), and give him room to move around and play. Bath time is now his favorite.

I agree with @aprk: take an infant swim class! They showed us how to condition him to be used to water running over his face. We punched holes in a plastic cup, and got him used to the water running over the back of his head, then started counting "1,2,3," then as we said "Under" we let some water dribble over his face so he got used to it and figures out when to close his eyes and hold his breath.
All I've ever had to do to get his hair rinsed is count and say under, then I can splash a bunch of water over his head and rinse him very quickly. He totally laughs at it and wants more!
The other thing we have that helped in the early days was a bath cup with a flexible rubber front that goes right up against his forehead and keeps the water off of his face:
