@josina: 4 oz is great! I think having enough for the next day is already an accomplishment since I kmow s lot of moms that have trouble getting enough!

@mrsf: glad it went so well! nice to be pleasantly surprised....and celebrate with a glass of wine
i looked back at my tracking app from when K was little and saw that we had started putting her to bed early around 7 or 8 weeks (we moved her to her own room at 5 or 6 weeks, i think). i didn't think E was quite ready for it at 7 weeks, but figured i'd give it a shot and worst case, she would just end up taking a "nap" and then be up for another feed before going to bed at 10 like we had been doing. amazingly, it seemed to work, and she even has done a couple of 6 and 7 hour stretches...before that her longest was 4. we'll see if it sticks!

@josina: 4 oz every 2 hours is awesome! I never got that much with my first. And the LC I recently saw said you should only pump 10-15 minutes. Though I used to pump for 30 when I pumped for Xander!
@KayKay: Wow! So moving her to her own room resulted in her doing longer stretches? That's awesome!

@snowjewelz: @Adira: Thanks guys, I was over here thinking 4 oz sucked!
Pretty stoked over here, just got a 5 hour stretch! Extra crazy cuz he slept a lot today but we will take it. He woke up at 1-1/2 but I just swaddled him and he was out. Now of only this stuck...

Ethan nursed one side, I changed him, and right back to sleep. Pumping now since I'm awake.
For those bachelor watchers check out this blog, so funny. Would also be a great read to bachelor haters to waste some time while nursing. http://jenfblogger.blogspot.com/?m=1

@KayKay: you think its bc it's quiet in her own room that she sleeps for longer?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: that's great! I think the more well rested they are during the dsy, the better they actually sleep at night! I Got a 3 he stretch.. She usually just eats one side now too but I'm too lazy to pump! Ill prob have to do this pump too when I go back go work! I just can't bring myself to stay up now!

I'm pumping and I put K in the pnp!
I'm awake so after some internal struggle I decided to do both thing that I had been too lazy to do!

Learned my lesson, go to bed when baby does!!!
She passed out at 8 and that was her long stretch until 12 I stayed up until 10, she has been up every 2.5 hrs now......lol

@KayKay: moving out oldest to his own room worked so well for us we did it early at a month and his sleep got so much better. But the boys rooms are right next to each other and I worry Ryan would wake Tyler in the early morning. Ughhhh.

I think I may need to give the swaddle a last ditch try. He wasn't sleeping any better with it a week ago so I ditched and things seemed to be a little better but maybe it was a coincidence.

@winniebee: hopefully you feet a longer stretch soon! I'm not going to get excited about it happening again though...

@snowjewelz: Good for you, I've been soooo bad with pumping....
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: it's just weird if I went to bed at 8! I know we can def use the extra sleep but I'm the same way.. I would just stay up
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I'm totally paying for it tho. Getting up to put her in pnp then pumping, I could not sleep after! Then when I started to fall asleep she started making all these noise! Now I feel like a zombie!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@winniebee: I think I do too! I still never really figured out of it helps or not!

@KayKay: @winniebee: we moved M into he room at 8 weeks, which worked out great. I'm just worried to move J because he needs so much soothing to fall asleep and I'm worried he'll wake his sister up! We'll probably give it a try in the next week or so though. I want him in his room before I go back to work.

@winniebee: @mrsf: yeah, we are lucky that the house we are in has both girls' rooms downstairs, but they don't share a wall. when we had visitors this fall, i always asked if they could hear k if she woke up at night, and they never could. so i figure between k being a pretty deep sleeper & her white noise, she wouldn't typically be woken up.
@snowjewelz: i honestly wonder if it's the mattress? even with an "extra firm" crib mattress, it's got to be more comfortable sleeping on that than the pnp/bassinet/etc ones that are super-thin? k never slept well in the pnp (even when older) until we got one of those extra mattresses for it, too.
@winniebee: we went back and forth on the swaddle a lot (yes, no, arms in, arms out, feet in, feet out) with k before it finally seemed to help. i think i gave up on it at least 3 or 4 times before finally trying once more *just in case*
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: she only spent really just 1 stretch in the pnp so for now I don't notice a difference between that and our bed... I don't know why she makes noises like crazy early in the morning!
And that is so us too with the swaddling! I ditch it when she is doing ok.. Then when she is fussy I start trying random things like you lol!
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: we did co-sleeping for a bit (and for a couple weeks longer with K). it worked really well until it didn't! haha. the main reasons we didn't do it more/longer this time around were a) we are renting a furnished house and the king bed has a super-soft, fluffy pillowtop that makes me a bit nervous, and b) DH is often on call or getting up early. even though he tries to be quiet, phones ringing and lights on are not that great for baby sleep!
it was soooo nice though...not having to get up (or stay awake!) to feed is heavenly. i now have 2 flights of stairs to deal with twice a night. tradeoffs!

@Adira: I remember reading a post mrsbee did on pumping, and she recommended pumping for 20-25 minutes to catch the second letdown, and that allowed her to get much more.
@winniebee: i have officially ditched the swaddle - i don't know if it works! i only used it with LO1 because she would always wake herself up by hitting herself in the face, but A seems to be doing a lot better.
@FaithFertility: i hate it when you miss their longest stretch!
@josina: 5 hour stretch is awesome! i'm finally getting some 3-4 hour stretches!

Yesterday was the first time i hand expressed! I had a hair appointment that was going to run 2 hours and A wouldn't wake up to feed. I knew i would be crazy engorged by the time i got home, and i think something is wrong with my pump so i had to resort to hand expressing - i managed to pump out 50 mL in 5 minutes!
Our entire family is sick. After 2 months of being on the brink of a cold i finally got hit. A is sick with a cold for the second time as well. Last night i cranked up the humidifier, set it right next to his bassinet and he managed to get decent stretches! I feel so bad for him.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@KayKay: i totally agree about the bassinet mattress! I think that's why he loves our bed so much. I recently padded the bassinet mattress with a padded blanket and 3 thick blankets to make a more plush mattress, and it's made a world of a difference to his sleep. We haven't even had to bring him to our bed the last two nights.

I'm tried J without t the swaddle yesterday and I literally sat there and watched him wake himself up with his hands - so back to the swaddle for him! I think as they get a little older it's a good sleep cue too. With m we went straight from a swaddle to a sleep sack as a cue. Even if you're traveling when the white noise and sleep sack or whatever come out - they know it's time to sleep!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Woohoo for a 5 hour stretch!!
@FaithFertility: Man, 8:00 is early. It would be hard to go to bed that early, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do to get the elusive sleep!
@Freckles: I was definitely doing it for the second letdown, but I'm not sure how much I actually got. I wonder if it was worth it. I might try just doing 15 minutes when I return to work... it would be awesome if I didn't have to use up all my vacation time pumping! Jealous of how much you got out doing hand expressing. I never could figure out how to do it correctly.

Logan is making me look forward to returning to work. He's driving me CRAZY. It's another no-sleep day. I've spent the last 3 hours trying to get him to sleep. Even nursing didn't work. And he's just fussy and cranky and OBVIOUSLY tired. I've tried everything! Swing, bassinet, holding him. Why won't he sleep???
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Adira: hand expressing makes me feel like a cow. I think it was easy to hand express because I was so engorged! It hurt like hell though.

@Adira: can you go out and run sons errands or something? My kids always sleep in the car seat and getting out of the house is always refreshing!

@Freckles: I have one quilted sheet for pnp that has a little cushion, it was gifted to me...but is from bru......I'm going to change sheet and see if there is a difference

So we got tons of different baby wash/shampoos and various showers and can't use any of them because they break Micah out. Can anyone recommend a good fragrance free baby wash?

@whenoceansrise: Honest Company! We have a few bottles and they say fragrance free
Stinky.....G can only wear cotton, other things make her red
