December 2018 Moms!

@MrsMom: you are so smart to just go out and get one of those. I'm still holding off even though I'm in so much pain. I found if I ice my groin in the morning, it does help for the rest of the day (not at night, though). My husband has a truck and getting into that thing is the pits. I need a stool. No hot flashes, just hot. I'm loving these cooler nights we are having now, though. Finally I can snuggle under the covers without cranking the a/c down super low.

@lindseykaye: good luck Wednesday! And I hope your maternity pics go well. I had my husband take some picture for me the other day. I finally announced on FB with one. I think, even thought it is slightly fuzzy, that I'll frame it. I love it. That is SO sweet that you are getting a baby shower!!

My appointments are now weekly with the MFM OB and bi-weekly with my OB. Growth scan is tomorrow. My fluid amount isn't super alarming this visit - my AFI is lower than the limit but my MVP is larger than the limit. So, still monitoring but I feel a little better since it didn't get worse. I'm also doing ok on weight - just added a few lbs since my last regular appt. I see people these days and they're like, "oh shouldn't be long now, huh?" And I'm all..."EIGHT WEEKS PEOPLE, SHUT YOUR MOUTHS!"

    @mediagirl: That photo
I would definitely be framing it!

Ice! I will have to try that too, thanks. I hope your continued appointments continue to go well. I have gotten many of the same comments - many that are like "Just a few weeks yeah?" and I have to be like... well sort of? I keep saying 'Early December' is her due date because I absolutely HATED people asking about her arrival early or even past LO's due date last time but it also has a side effect of making me look even larger for the date I think.

@lindseykaye: I know, people always want an exact date and I'm like...well...I have one but I have to have her before that date so, can we just not talk about this? I want to say mid December but it's not really...it's sort of early mid December.

Doctor appointment today (moved to every 3 weeks). She asked if I'm trying to have a 9 lb baby... The weight gain was a bit higher than ideal. She had me start taking iron supplements and that combined with a less than fibrous diet has caused some backup, which I think is more of the gain than true weight. I will say, the gain is a bit daunting... I lost almost 10 lbs before getting pregnant and gained that back plus some (obviously). I'm up about 30 lbs from the weight loss amount. Last time, I gained about 30-35 total, some was swelling/fluid though. I think this time it's just a shit diet... So I'm going to add stool softener and more fiber to my diet. She also said I was measuring bigger. I go every 2 weeks now so I'm hoping things even back out...

@mediagirl: I told the grocery store cashier I had two more months (I'm due 12/7) and she was like ohhhh a Christmas baby?! I immediately said no no no, definitely not that late, lol!

  7. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@LindsayInNY: haha I love how everyone assumes a "December baby" means Christmas baby. I'm sure all of us with early/early mid Dec due dates are hoping for Thanksgiving babies at this point.

  8. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@LindsayInNY: sorry about the weight gain. I hate it when they make comments like that. It is so hard to be good all the time. I hope the stool softeners help. I had the weight gain issues and comments last pregnancy and they are really no fun at all. BTW: your OB should know this. A big mom does not necesssarily mean a big baby. I gained over 50lbs and had a 7lb 3oz baby.

  9. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@LindsayInNY: Last time I gained about 45 lbs and LO was 8lb 3 oz at birth. This time I'm at about 30-35 lbs (depending on what they're using to start from) and I figure I might end up about the same. It would have been nice not to gain so much but on the other hand I figure this is just how I grow babies. My swelling seems to have a big impact on my gain from appt. to appt. like there has to be a few lbs of water weight some weeks.. or maybe that's wishful thinking.

  10. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@mediagirl: She's known for her strictness on weight so it wasn't a huge surprise that she said something. But it's still crappy to hear. I gained 30-35 last time and had a 7 lb. 10 oz baby. I don't think this one will be huge. If anything, maybe it was just a big growth week. I guess I'll find out in two weeks...

@lindseykaye: That's good to hear!! The gain isn't so bad if I look at my original weight and not my post-weight loss weight. Honestly, I was low carb for 3-4 months that it's no wonder I gained when I started eating more carbs!

@lindseykaye: @mediagirl: We went to the pumpkin patch last weekend and a trip to apple picking and that night I was in soo much pain, I fell asleep with the Ice pack on my groin. Needless to say I woke up feeling great, but cold LOL.

Watching my Niece went well, Sort of, not so much sleep, shes a gassy little thing but so so adorable. I did have a little melt down when they left because my son was very jealous the whole time and was even being bad just to get attention. I made sure I was paying attention to him but he still acted up. I now feel so bad for him and that maybe it was selfish of me to have another with how he's going to feel. I'm sure it will be fine with time, but at this moment I feel like a horrible mom.

    @mediagirl: Love your picture!
I have the same problem with the due dates. Due Dec 15th but will have my C-section the first week of December so I hate getting asked that question. Especially when they say "oh you still have a while then" Do these people not realize how fast 7 weeks gos??

@LindsayInNY: Sorry you're struggling with the weight gain and constipation. Hopefully you can find some relief soon. I also don't understand why your doctor thinks the baby's going to be 9lbs because of your weight. I haven't heard that your weight gain directly determines your babys unless the person has gestational diabetes or something.

I measured 28 weeks at my 30 weeks appointment. It made me a little nervous but she didn't seem to be concerned. I'm on 2 weeks appts now so I go back Friday. If I'm still measuring smaller will they do a growth scan? I'm a bigger girl to begin with and haven't gained anything only lost some weight during this pregnancy. I was the same with my first but I always measured normal-bigger with him.

    pear / 1992 posts

@MrsMom: Aw that does sound hard with your DS. But - I think it has a lot of the same factors going on as why you were nervous. A 3 month old just popping in is pretty tough! Especially a baby who (while she is family) you need to give extra attention to because you don't as intimately know their cues as you would your own baby you'll have been with from birth.

I am hoping for a smoother transition when your LO arrives for the whole family

    kiwi / 568 posts

@lindseykaye: Yes you're probably right. It's definitely different when it's not your own and you don't know their cues. I've talked to a few ladies in my office about it and they said it's pretty normal and exactly how their kids acted. They offered some tips on how to make the transition smoother, so hopefully it wont be too bad.

Baby grew into her kidneys! No need to get a referral to the urologist! She's approx 4lbs...everything looks good. Still extra fluid and weekly ultrasounds but...YAY!!!

Busiest weekend of the year has come and gone. My feet still ache and were more swollen at the end of the night for several days than they've ever been but - we did it! Successfully hosted (and catered ourselves) a reharsal dinner for 40 people, did all the wedding party duties, enjoyed the after party and hosted the after-after party at our house (with kiddo at the hotel with her grandparents) which ended up lasting until 6AM, attended the day-after brunch and dinners, and then capped off the weekend with family maternity photos. I am SO TIRED still, but it was very worth it to give these gifts to our best friends and be there for them to make things easier during this hectic weekend.

Here's a phone quickie from the photos yesterday. Excited for the real ones

@mediagirl: That’s awesome! This little guy did not grow into his kidney and it’s stjll dilated. I asked my doctor if another us at 36 weeks is really necessary. I know they’re going to just want to do one on him when he’s born.

I asked about being induced and the doctor said there is really no reason unless issues come up BUT there could be the option for an elective induction no earlier than 39 weeks. They don’t really do it for 1st fine moms but consider for 2nd+. Soooo if you were offered, would you do it? Is it terrible that part of me wants to take that route?? I like to be prepared!

33 weeks and SO uncomfortable these days. It's either my back hurting or my ribs because I'm not very tall and my belly is pushing up so high. I don't know how to make sitting at a desk most of the day more comfortable.

@lindseykaye: Glad to hear you made it through, and it sounds like you had a lot of fun. Love the picture!

@Christy412: Sorry to hear he has not outgrown the Kidney issue. I'm not too familiar with it, Do they just monitor it after hes born? I don't have experience with labor since I had a c section so I can't give you advice on the induction part, but I've witnessed two inductions and they both had some difficulties.

I pulled out all my sons old clothes and sorted out by size. Washed all the newborn-3 month. It's funny how I can remember him wearing every single outfit. Getting everything out just made it seem so real. We had an ultrasound on Saturday and DS got to see this time. He thought seeing the heart was extra neat.

Is Everyone starting to feel a little more ready?? I'm on the AVA December pregnancy Facebook group and one of the girls already had her baby I started a list of things to pack for my bag but have yet to stat it.

@LindsayInNY: I totally understand!!! My belly popped out more overnight and all of the sudden Sunday I couldn't bend over. I put a box under my desk and just sit a little more reclined with my feet up on the box now. It's the only way to get through the day.

  24. Christy412

    grape / 83 posts

@MrsMom: Yes, they'll just monitor the kidney after birth, the same as with my son. I am supposed to have another ultrasound around 36/37 weeks so we'll see how big the baby is at that time. I told the doctor I didn't have to have 2 more ultrasounds, can we just combine the kidney check and final growth? I had a great induction (minus the Magnesium for PreE) for my first but I also went into it at 2cm and like 80% effaced. I guess the decision for an elective may be if I'm already dilated etc.

@LINDSAYINNY Same! Standing hurts, sitting hurts, eating makes me feel like there is no room left in my stomach! lol

  25. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

    @lindseykaye: haha, great picture!
@Christy412: sorry the kidney issue hasn't resolved - how is it measuring? Are they going to have you see a urologist? My OB decided to go ahead and have us meet the urologist anyways. Then they will meet the baby a couple weeks after birth to do an ultrasound and check for issues.
@LindsayInNY: I hear you. 33 weeks means we still have soooo long to go, too. I have no answers b/c I'm super uncomfortable, as well. Mine is mostly groin pain, though. It's so, so bad.

  26. Christy412

    grape / 83 posts

@mediagirl: Luckily it's just the one kidney but it actually got a little bigger than 2 weeks ago It was measuring at like 8.5 and they want it to be 7.0 or under. Last ultrasound it was like 7.1. Although she did check it again towards the end and it was 8.0 because he must have went pee during that time! Ultimately we'll have to meet with pediatric urology.

  27. mediagirl

    hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts

@Christy412: sorry to hear that. I'm glad to hear it's not TOO big, though. That sounds like a range that could resolve itself, no?

I ordered a very expensive belly band today. I can't seem to do anything without pain anymore so, I am desparate. This pregnancy is costing me so much $$!! Ha.

Is anyone having baby showers? When are they planned for/have you had them already? Just going to tag everyone.

    @LindseyKaye @MrsMollyAlexandra @Emmalina @LindsayinNY @Chillmama86 @Christy412 @ThePaperButterfly @MotherRunner @MrsMom @IrishEyes @orbylon @DizzyMiss @katrocap

@mediagirl: Yes, it should eventually resolve itself. I have one more ultrasound scheduled for 37 weeks.

I hear you on the pain! I have to stand up frequently because everything hurts! My pelvis hurts when I touch it, I'm guessing because he's head-down already. I'm starting to waddle a little lol.

No baby shower here. If anyone asks what we need, I tell them diapers!

  29. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@mediagirl: Yes after planning on not having a shower this whole time (and being a little sad about it) our friends who we hosted the rehearsal dinner/after party/tons of things for their wedding this month asked if she could throw one for us.
It will be this coming Sunday - basically a casual 'baby brunch' with food and friends and their kids. It felt super thoughtful of her to ask to host it when she asked about shower plans and I was like - well I don't want to host my own and no one has offered...
I don't expect gifts, but I am going to wait till after the party to use our registry completion discounts just in case.

On the discomfort front - holy heartburn! It's been nearly constant for the last week and has literally woken me up from my sleep a few times. I'm eating tums every few hours to keep it bearable.

And pelvic pain is still there but no worse. I'm definitely waddling at this point though. Midwife said the baby's head is very low in my pelvis at my last appt. (where usually it's still a little higher) so I'm glad she's settled in her spot but man is it uncomfortable. I also still have a nagging soreness in my upper right rib area - doesn't sound like gallbladder issues thankfully - just that's where her feet are and where she stretches/kicks still. And my braxton hicks have always and continue to be sort of focused on that side (rather than an all-over tightening). Same as last pregnancy though! These girls are very similar so far.

I have my 36 week appt on Wednesday (will be 35w 3d) and will get my GBS swab. Hoping I'm negative again like last time since I have a whole bunch of fun allergies to antibiotics and it's easier just to not have to even deal with it. Fingers crossed!

No shower or sprinkle here. Slowly getting together what we need...

  31. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

@lindseykaye: How did the midwife figure out baby was low in your pelvis? I had GBS last time and allergy issues as well. The antibiotic I needed was a 2 hour infusion - the worst!!

  32. LindsayInNY

    bananas / 9229 posts

Also, I'm apparently 85 years old with no bladder control... I lost it over the weekend and as I yelled, I peed myself. Bad. It's so bad this time. I don't know what I'm going to do post-birth with this bladder...

  33. MrsMom

    kiwi / 568 posts

@mediagirl: I can't do anything without my belly band anymore! I take it off while I'm sitting at work because the little one does not like it LOL, but other than that I have it on. This pregnancy is costing us a lot also, I have to take blood thinner injections and extra supplements throughout and it's costing us $140/month just for those. UGH. I could've bought a nice baby carrier and some other expensive baby items a couple time with all that money. But I guess it's keeping us safe which is the best gift of all.

We're having a small baby shower this Saturday thrown by my cousin and mom. Just close family and some coworkers who are really excited for us.

@LindsayInNY: She was just doing her usual manual palpitations to feel the bay's positioning and when she was confirming the head she was like - ooh! Found it - her head is defintely down here and snug right in your pelvis. She was feeling a little higher for it at first and was like - where is it?!

@mediagirl: Hi ladies! No shower here because I'm British and we don't really do them even first time round.

Echoing everyone that's struggling - 35 weeks over here and I feel like everything hurts! My 18 month old vaulted out his crib a few weeks back so my pretty bad sleeper has become a terrible sleeper now he's in a bed. I feel like I'm running on empty!

In terms of baby #2 I'm having to have some extra scans because my belly is measuring small. Trying to take it as a positive as typically we only get two scans all pregnancy so it's nice to see the baby. Also hoping to book my induction this week for 39 / 40 weeks.

It's almost November and the final countdown is on!!!

  37. lindseykaye

    pear / 1992 posts

@Emmalina: Definitely the final countdown. I'm up to weekly appointments and my friend who was due a week ahead of me is now being induced at 38 weeks (11/7) so it's feeling VERY real. I'm days away from being a month from my own due date and I'm freaking out a little that I have so much left to do at work and home before then.

One thing at a time I keep reminding myself. And what is left undone will just have to be let go.

@lindseykaye: you're so close! And as for letting things go? Be Elsa. My house is a disaster and I just don't care anymore. Haha.

I wonder who our first December mama will be?

I bought a belly band from Amazon, tried it on and it gave me sciatic nerve pain. Sending it back. Oh well. 5 weeks (+4 days if I go to my induction date) to go!

I’ve been getting the worst nerve pain in my hip flexor area lately. Like I stop walking it’s that sharp of a pain!

We moved DD to a toddler bed this weekend to free up her crib for this one. Slowly but surely getting there! We’re out of town this weekend and that’ll be the last 4-5 hour drive to endure.

@LindsayInNY: I've been having a lot of pain in my hips lately. I rotate allllll night long. But I actually feel better when walking, when I sit it all kind of throbs. Hope you can find some relief soon. Hopefully your DD is doing well with the transition.

I feel like things are moving so fast but at the same time so slow. I'm waiting for the call with my csection date which will be at 38 weeks so only 4 more weeks!!! Crazy and emotions are all over. I'm ready, I'm not ready, I'm emotional, I'm cranky, I'm hungry, sometimes I don't know how to feel.....LOL

We had our baby shower Saturday and it was fun. Although everyone keeps asking about a name and we still don't have one!!! I don't know what to do. All the family names have been used way too much, but everytime I come up with a name either DH doesn't like it or someone else in my family doesn't. (I know it shouldn't matter but I'm a hard core people pleaser so it's hard for me). I feel like no matter what it's going to be the wrong name.
