LO is over a week old now...things are getting better, though I'm still worn out and out of sorts and haven't finished the birth story. Parts of the birth are still really hard for me to think about.
At any rate, guess what LO is doing right now? SLEEPING! By herself! Not on/next to me!
She does this during the day of course...but at night? We put her in her crib or co-sleeper, and she acts like she's going to be eaten by lions. Sigh.
Also...I HATE HATE HATE the nipple shield and will forever curse the nurse who slapped it on my boob instead of working on baby girl to latch normally. Aaaaagh. I feel so stupid for letting the nurses/LCs do the things they did! I was so exhausted/overwhelmed at the time, and now I feel like our breastfeeding relationship has been completely sabotaged!

@Minnie_Girl: we had a LC at the hospital that taught me some wacky stuff... 2 days after being home I realized something was off, called a private LC, she came to my house taught me a new hold and gave me some tips and BFing was great after that --- it was $100 but totally worth it --- maybe call an lC to get things straight?
Good luck with the sleeping!

@chopsuey119: I hoped you wouldn't mind since it was on the boards!

@Minnie_Girl: sorry to hear about the bf struggles. The LC consultant had me start with a shield at the hospital but I kept trying to get him to latch without it and finally he did. Hopefully you Lo will start latching without it soon!

Congrats @chopsuey119! Our LOs share a birthday. Baby Beatrix was born this morning at 1:46 am weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.
The whole birth experience still feels really surreal. I was scheduled for an induction at 10:30 pm on Tuesday night. Contractions started on their own on Monday night, while DH and I were watching a movie on the couch. I labored at home all of Tuesday and arrived at the hospital around 9:30 pm, just a little bit before the induction. When the OB checked me at 10:30 pm, I was already fully dilated! We were both shocked. I started pushing around 1 am and she was out 45 minutes later.
Hope all you December moms are enjoying your newborns!

@MsInformation: congratulations! That is so awesome that everything progressed naturally even with the induction scheduled for that same day! Enjoy your LO!

Congratulations to our two newest moms Chopsuey119 and msinformation!!
Yes unbelievably, I am still waiting. 42 weeks, 1 day. I continue to receive messages, text messages, e-mails, phone calls, etc... every day asking if I had the baby or how I am feeling. I go from feeling crabby and irritable to feeling depressed and sad that my body is still so closed up.
I actually got mad at my mom for calling me every day for no other reason than to get status updates. This, in turn, made me feel awful and guilty because I am soon going to have a daughter of my own and would feel just terrible if she did the same to me. This in turn led to a downward spiral of me feeling bad for being mean to my own mother, feeling guilty and then feeling sorry for myself. I need to snap out of it but I don't know how!
I thought 42 weeks would be the limit but I guess it is now 43 weeks unless baby shows signs of distress.

@hellobeeboston: We had an appointment with another LC at the hospital, and she was awesome! LO still isn't latching without the shield but our feeding sessions go much more smoothly now.
I offer her the plain breast at the end of most feedings, and she's slowly starting to put two and two together. It helps that I'm not engorged anymore and can do the sandwich thing, and her motor control/sucking skills are improving.
@travelingbrit: I'm hoping it won't take much longer...maybe a couple of weeks yet? She was given a bottle and nipple shield from day 1, so she just doesn't realize there are non-silicone nipples, haha.
Congrats to all the new mamas! There aren't many more December deliveries to go, are there?

@gracecat: I'm getting induced next Thursday if he's not here yet!

So I thought we were doing great with the BFing, even though we got a slow start due to my c-section. For the past week he's been mostly BFing with one formula bottle at night.
On Wed I took a mini break from Bfing because my nipple hurt and I fed him pumped milk.
Well starting Thursday anytime I put him to the boob he starts SCREAMING.
I want to continue to BF but it pains me to hear him cry. I've been giving up and giving him pumped milk or formula but I really want him to latch again.
Suggestions?

@travelingbrit: Yeah, I actually just quit and didn't take maternity leave - the only thing I lost doing it that way was ~1 week of sick leave. We didn't have any real maternity benefits and I wasn't on their insurance.

Good news here!!! 2.5 weeks post partum and I'm below my pre pregnany weight! Yay! To be fair I only gained about 20 lbs but I'm happy anyway. Hopefully the breastfeeding will let me lose a few more of these pounds I've been carrying around for awhile.

just got sick, from my 2 YO who brought home a cold she caught from daycare. ughhhhhhhhhhhh this is the worst, taking care of a newborn, and a toddler while nursing a cold. normally i take nyquil to get through the worst of it, but trying to stay away from any medication since BFing. DH has been absolutely great helping, but waking up in the middle of the night to BF or pump is hard! to top it off i have laryngitis too!! i know this will pass, but boy, this is rough.

How is everyone!? Still have to write my birth story which went nothing as planned... But currently too busy and sleep deprived to get around to it. Man, becoming a parent is the hardest thing I have ever done. Breast feeding is no joke either. When does it get easier? Ever?
