Has anyone had to have dental work done while pregnant? I'm scheduled to have a tooth pulled (not happy about it) next week, and just wondered if it's considered pretty safe now. I'll be on antibiotics, and will have to be numbed with lidocaine beforehand. I was hoping to avoid any dental work during pregnancy. Bummer.

I just wrote about this last week. I have to get a root canal and crown done sometime soon due to a broken tooth. I talked to my OB about it. She said if I can wait, wait. If I need to get it done, do it in the second trimester. I'm on antibiotics now and will get it done once I reach my 13th week. I would rather do it than risk infection going to the fetus.
Bummer is right.

Def try waiting until after your pregnancy to have work done. If not the second trimester is the "safest" time to get any elective work done. But the sounds of it, your procedure isn't elective, are you in pain? And make sure your dentist knows that your pregnant and uses an anesthetic without epi. Hope that helps, I work in a dental office (hygienist), and we get asked questions like that all the time.

I need to have a routine cleaning done (I'll schedule it for the 2nd trimester) and I was hoping to get my other 3 wisdom teeth out, but I guess that'll have to wait. They're not bothering me besides the occasional cheek bite.

Definately getting your cleaning done while pregnant is a good idea. Some patients actually get more cleanings while pregnant, depending on their buildup/bleading/gums (assocaited with pregnancy gingivitis)
