We are going out for sushi tonight at a reputable/fancy place and I'm so sick of eating shrimp tempura rolls or gyoza...I want the real stuff!
Once can't hurt, right?

I voted no, but man, I wish I had! I don't think it would have hurt any and I missed it soooo much! Plus it would have been healthier than all the mac and cheese I ate in it's place

It is the one thing I have avoided first thing after baby is born I'm going to eat a spicy tuna roll!

Nope...the thought of it made me sick, though (along with pretty much everything else).

@looch: Ditto.
I ate sushi several times. We live on the coast and have great sushi places near us.
It isn't like the entire female population of Japan quits sushi while pregnant, so neither did I

Raw food isn't good for anyone so I avoided it when pregnant. Many women around the world do fine eating sushi but to me it wasn't worth the possible risk. I stuck to cooked rolls.

Yep. Had raw fish both times at a reputable place.

@blackbird: agreed. If I were on a coast and it's reputable, I'd probably enjoy a roll if I'm late enough in the pregnancy. Living where we do, though, no way.

I stuck to rolls but if I have the craving next time I'll probably indulge in my second and third trimester...just from a reputable place and in moderation

Yep. I get it from reputable places. I love it too much to give up.

I voted no, because I don't order raw stuff, but a plain avocado roll has always been my fave so it's not much of a sacrifice I usually have one piece of whatever roll DH gets though (usually spicy tuna)

I didn't and I won't. It's not worth the risk risk to me. I had chances to eat it in some of the best places in NYC and I would say that's as good as you get stateside for sashimi.
For the next eight months cooked sushi will just have to do! .

I did but only the cooked chicken sushi and had it from a reputable place.

Yep! I had it (both cooked and raw) at a reputable place, and I was OK with it

30 weeks pregnant tomorrow and that's what we had for dinner tonight, so yes!
For both pregnancies it was one of the few things I could tolerate with my all day morning sickness, so I just stuck with reputable places.

Yes. There is no more risk of parasites in fish served in sushi or sashimi because it is flash frozen as required by the government. So that hamburger, chicken sandwich or egg salad has just as much risk. And parasites might make you sick, but they don't affect the fetus. Great article for further reading about the real risks: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/15/opinion/15shaw.html

No. But I wish I had!!! In a way, I am glad I didn't - cut down the variables of food poisoning. I think I would have been very mad at myself if I ate sushi and got sick and caused complications. Besides, various fishes are high on mercury, so I also was very careful on that. But boy that was a difficult time. No sushi and no wine.

I super enjoyed my spicy tuna roll tonight ! I only ate a few pieces but it was so yummy

@irene: I told DH that our first date post-delivery is sushi and wine, with sushi and wine for dessert.

Only the cooked stuff so I voted no. Next pregnancy I might though. I think it also depends where you live (how fresh the fish is.) I craved it my whole pregnancy!! (Well post m/s...)

Nope. But only because I don't trust the sushi restaurants here 100%.

I had a few bites of sushi/sashimi while pregnant, especially on our babymoon in Hawaii. It was just too hard to resist. But I really just would have one bite, here and there.
