I will be 12 weeks on Thursday which means I can finally quit the progesterone I've been taking since egg retrieval (suppositories and PIO injections). My RE's office gave me instructions for weaning off my dexamethasone and parlodel, but said I could just quit the progesterone when I got to 12 weeks. That sounds great because I'm so sick of the injections and nasty suppository side effects, but I'm also getting nervous to just go off the progesterone all at once. For those who have been on progesterone in early pregnancy, did you wean off it slowly or just quit all at once?

I think I remember reading about @runningelley weaning off her progesterone with LO #1. I'd be scared to just stop, so I'd probably go down to one a day for a little while first. (ps - I can't believe you're already 12 weeks!! Are you going to start telling people or have you already?)

I weaned, but not intentionally. I didn't have an appointment until 14 weeks, so I was waiting to ask then whether I should stop or not. A few days during week 13 I forgot at night, and I didn't bother putting them in (suppositories) after I forgot. Once I got the OK to stop, I thought I was going to go cold turkey, but I got nervous, so I only did my nighttime dose for a day or so. It was a great feeling to be done!!

Congrats on 12 weeks! I'm not there yet but when I was on suppositories the nurse mentioned weaning off, first going down to twice a day then once a day. But when I switched from suppositories to PIO they just had me stop cold turkey so I guess it can be done either way! It is a great feeling not using those things anymore!

I weaned off of my progesterone with LO #1. I was doing PIO injections and I gradually decreased the amount/spaced out the injections. Then I still took suppositories and weaned off of those.
I actually was on progesterone with LO #2 as well. I weaned off the injections at around 14 weeks but my P kept dropping whenever I tried to wean off of suppositories after that. I didn't end up quitting those until 3rd tri!
My case is definitely the exception though. Most people respond just fine to quitting cold turkey!

Thank you everyone for letting me know your experiences! I'm going to try following my RE's instructions to just quit it, but if I'm feeling off or experience any spotting, I will ask my OB at my next appointment!
@Shutterbug: I can't really believe I'm nearly 12 weeks either! Our families, close friends and a few co-workers know already, but I'm excited to finally announce it on Facebook. First I have to get up the courage to tell my boss, though!

@Running Elley: Oh my, I can't imagine staying on the suppositories until 3rd tri! I bet you were REALLY ready to be done with them after that long! I have no reason to believe progesterone is an issue for me - it was just standard procedure at my RE's office for IVF. So I'm hoping I'll be in the clear.

@twodoghouse: I weaned off, My RE said to reduce my dosage to once a day for a the last week. I did spot a little after i stopped tho, but it wasn'nt anything major.

@twodoghouse: Thank you! I am 16w6d, and I think I maaaay be starting to feel some of that second trimester magic people keep talking about. Not there yet, but food sounds good more often than it doesn't, so that's good! We told the last of our family and friends that we wanted to tell over the weekend, and it is so nice to be out in the open!
