Mind if I join? I haven’t been active on here since I had my last baby a few years ago, but I love having mama friends to celebrate and commiserate with while going through the adventure that is pregnancy! Haha

Due date: Nov. 10, 2020 is my best estimate. My cycles are not the most regular, but it’s somewhere around there! I got my first BFP this past Monday.
Baby #: 4! I kind of can’t believe I’m going to have that many kids! I have 3 girls (3, 5, and 7) from a previous marriage and left because it was a very toxic situation. I am now married to the man of my dreams and expecting our first baby together! Maybe TMI but I think we got pregnant on our first anniversary! Haha
First appt: I haven’t called to schedule it yet. The midwives I saw for my other pregnancies usually schedule the first visit closer to the end of the first trimester unless there are complications that require an earlier visit. I’ll be calling next week to schedule!
Anything else? Symptoms? Etc? I don’t think I had many symptoms early on in my other pregnancies, but I definitely do this time! I really FELT pregnant, which was why I took a test! I am exhausted, bloated (so bad on 4th pregnancy), having to go to the bathroom constantly, and my breasts are sore. Morning sickness happened from around week 6-16 with my other pregnancies, but I’m really hoping I can skip that this time around! I kind of feel like it’s a boy this time, so maybe it will be different than all my girl pregnancies? Or maybe it will hit earlier since all the other symptoms did? Haha

Anyone else have a feeling or guess about what gender they’re having?

It’s tricky to be pregnant with young children! We are trying to decide when to tell our kids the happy news as well. We’re planning on telling my in-laws on my MIL’s birthday next month. I’ll be 8 weeks and that seems like a good time to let all the close family know. I want to find a fun way to tell them! My mom and sister don’t even know yet, which feels weird! So lots of announcements to plan! Haha sorry, that was all super long and rambly! Just excited to be here with you all! Hope you’re doing well and that you find some relief from morning sickness! The only thing that consistently helped me in the past was to eat a Granny Smith apple before getting out of bed. I have no idea why that’s so magical, but the staff on a cruise we went on recently also suggested Granny Smith apples for any kind of nausea!

@limabeanbabies: welcome! Your girls will be so excited to have a new baby brother, or sister too. Hope the nausea spares you this time that would be amazing.
I kind of feel like I am having a boy because I think my vomiting was worse with my daughter. I have a lot of nausea but no vomiting really.

I just had my first official appointment. I wasn’t sure of my LMP so they do the dating based on measurements today. My new EDD is October 17 and I am about 8 and half weeks or so. My daughter’s bday is oct 27 so I hope this baby doesn’t come two weeks late! My son came on his due date and my daughter came at 36 weeks so I could just imagine this one being overdue and getting induced on her birthday 🤦‍♀️. I have always heard third babies are a wildcard in terms of l and d experience.

@limabeanbabies: welcome! I can't wait to hear how it goes announcing to your family! I'm glad you don't have super bad MS.

@mrsbubbletea: oct 17 is a good due date! Mine is Oct 27 and I'm just picturing a Halloween birthday...

Had another appointment today. Bean has grown and had a good heartbeat! I'm still using the progesterone supplements and now I'll be getting weekly lipids infusions too, which they say lowers inflammation. I'm intermittently queasy. Either nauseated and upset, or not nauseated and upset about that... Can't win, haha!

@MoonMoon: wow lipid infusions that’s so interesting. I think I remember you are a nurse? Me too, it’s so interesting to see treatments for fertility and how things I am familiar with in a different context can help support pregnancy! My daughter was due on thanksgiving and came at 36 weeks, so we came home on the 10/30. . I kept saying my thanksgiving baby became a Halloween baby this isn’t what I was expecting!

@mrsbubbletea: I know, I had very little knowledge of Intralipids used for fertility or pregnancy support. I'm following my fertility clinic's advice of, if it doesn't hurt and there's a chance it might help, why not? Fortunately, my insurance covered it.

Fun to think of due dates! My first came a week early. We'll see what this one wants to do!

How’s everyone feeling? I am discouraged by the first trimester exhaustion and nausea. It’s so hard to parent and try to keep things in order. So over meal times with sometimes picky kids when opening the fridge or freezer makes me gag. I need to just figure out a way to simplify my routine to a bare minimum of heat and serve, and push my guilt aside!

Oh and does anyone have any suggestions of snacks that are helping them keep nausea at bay? Crackers have been my go to but I feel unhealthy munching on ritz and saltines all day. I tried almonds, they work ok but not quite as palatable for me. I would love to find something higher in protein.

@mrsbubbletea: I've been having red/orange tinged mucous. Hopefully nothing, but that along with lessened first trimester symptoms has me a little worried.

For meals we did a lot of frozen meals and meatless meals. Just now confortable cooking meat again. For snacks trail mix worked well for me. Also a handful of my kid's cereal. The sugar helped me a ton. that's not exactly healthy though!

Update: I was in a crazy limbo for about three weeks but my last bw came back and my progesterone dropped and my hcg wasn’t any higher.... so basically it’s a missed ab. I’m going to be away for a while, hopefully I’ll be back but I need a break .... I can’t deal emotionally with it any further... my you ladies have amazing journeys and lots of luck

I haven't been very active since having my second son, but I guess during a time like we're in now, it's always nice to have a community to turn to.

    Due date: 10/24

    Baby #: 3. I have two boys age 5 & 15 months.

First appt: I had one on 3/4 and they did a quick dating scan and we got to see/hear the heartbeat. Next appt 04/01.

Anything else? Symptoms? Etc? Nausea and food aversions. Tired a lot.

Am I the only one super anxious about being pregnant in the middle of a pandemic? My husband works in an ER and I debate daily on letting him in the house when he comes home.

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@MrsMom: welcome! We have very close due dates (I'm 10/27).

And yes to the anxiety. I work in the hospital and I just hate having to go in, especially knowing things are about to get worse in our area before they get better. Hang in there!

I had my first appointment yesterday and saw the heartbeat, so I’m cautiously joining in here, after a miscarriage a few months ago. I’m 8 weeks along with baby #2. DS will turn 2 next month and baby #2 is due on Halloween! 🎃
Symptoms...general exhaustion and extreme nausea. Just trying to focus on getting enough fluids down each day. I’m WFH due to coronavirus which is probably a blessing in disguise - can get a little bit more rest and not worry about puking on public transit!

  19. littlebear16

    cherry / 116 posts

@MrsMom: yes to the anxiety! It's difficult there isn't much known about how the virus affects pregnant women and the fetus. My doctor said pregnancy makes you at risk because of lowered immunity, but she didn't say if you're more likely to get it or have complications from it and I didn't think to ask.

  20. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@littlebear16: will try to clarify a tad. Throughout all of pregnancy, Your immune system is lowered to help prevent your immune system from “attacking” the foreign invader inside you (fetus). The fetus is only 50% you, 50% foreign (your SO), so there’s opportunity for the body to go on attack without that natural immune suppression.

The physiology of pregnancy is different during all three trimesters, but as pertains to Covid and is concerning since it’s a respiratory pathogen, are the effects in the lungs and breathing. As baby grows, breathing is more and more impacted.

When you breath in, your diaphragm flexes and drops down, creating negative pressure to “suck” air into your lungs. If you have a big belly with no room for that diaphragm to drop as far, it impacts how much air you can take in. Not to get too complicated, but what’s known as “reserve volume” easy essentially eaten up. So if you think about how much you breath in naturally in one breath vs if I asked you to take the deepest breath possible, that difference is your reserve. It’s lowest around 36 weeks when baby is highest up, and then gets slightly better after that as baby drops down into the birth canal.

So with less reserve volume, there’s not extra capacity in case you need it. And one respiratory illness can really stress pregnant women. Not just unique to Covid, in fact not really seen yet in Covid, but this is the pattern that plays out in all other respiratory viruses like SARS, MERS, Flu, etc.

Part of the reason the CDC is hedging a little is we aren’t yet seeing those negative outcomes for pregnant women that we’ve seen time and time again with other viruses. It’s unclear yet (time will tell) if this is happening and we just don’t see it yet, or if this virus behaves differently. So for right now they are erring on the safe side and including pregnant women in high risk.

The first trimester question is also unanswered. And I don’t have much to add there. But know that OBs and ID specialists around the world are watching this closely and at the first sign of any birth defects (think Zika) or other issues will inform the public.

    Hope that helps a bit.

@yellowbeach: did you get your results back yet?

As for me, I have an appt tomorrow and kind of feel like I should cancel since it’s not really an essential one. We saw baby looking good at 8 weeks, 2 weeks ago. And my ob is in a general primary care building. I would like to see baby/ hb though so I haven’t cancelled. I am even more hesitant about going to the lab for my genetic screening. Lab seems like could have tons of sick people!

@yellowbeach: Thanks for the information! It is worrisome that there is so little known and what the possible if any birth defects it may cause.

@Shybee23: Welcome! It's so hard to keep any fluids down right now.

@mrsbubbletea: I know how you feel. my next appointment is Next week and while I want to hear the heartbeat, I don't want more exposure. I'm also supposed to get the first batch of genetic testing done that day.

  24. mrsbubbletea

    nectarine / 2821 posts

@MrsMom: I am glad I went. They were being so careful and cautious, couldn’t even enter the building without an appt. made everyone wash their hands upon entering. Only allowed 2 people in lab at a time. My doctor said they are basically cancelling all besides prenatal appts in her office, and making a fair amount of them phone. My next appt is in 6 weeks, she said it may or not be an in person appt! But baby looked good and was wiggling around

@mrsbubbletea: glad you went and everything looked good!

In the last few weeks I've only left the house for work or my weekly prenatal appointments. These appointments have kept me sane. Today I was told that the fertility clinic would discharge me after next week's appointment (10 weeks). Guess it's time to call my OB-Gyn office. Not going to lie, I've been so spoiled by the fertility clinic, it's going to be an adjustment going back to the regular practice.

@MoonMoon: Is it the same practice you've been going to/went to with your first?

I just got a call from genetic counselor. They did a screening for spinal muscular atrophy, it's a new test this time so I never had it with my other 2. I am a carrier, so now my husband has to be screened. I feel pretty positive having two healthy children together but then again if he is a carrier, it's only a 1 in 4 chance...

  28. Marfi

    clementine / 794 posts

@mrsbubbletea: Because we did IVF we did genetic testing and found that my husband was a carrier for SMA, thankfully I wasn't, I hope your husband isn't also!

As for me, I had some scary bleeding over the weekend. After calling in to the OB emergency line, I went in to the ER to get checked out. Thankfully, everything was okay with baby but we found out that I have placenta previa with an anterior succenturiate lobe. Meaning I have blood vessels crossing over my cervix (not my picture but gives a fairly good example of what it's like). So it's something we'll have to keep an eye on. There's a chance it could correct itself but it's not super likely because of the fact that there are two separate lobes. If it doesn't correct itself (and move away from my cervix) I have to have a C-section which we're planning on anyway.

Reposting from our June Due Date group:

If I were you guys, as someone with a hx of high risk pregnancy and as an MD, I'd make sure you have at home (links to the models I own) in preparation for conversion of all appointments to telemed:

    - BP cuff https://smile.amazon.com/Omron-Upper-Blood-Pressure-Monitor/dp/B07S3LNS1L/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=omron+bp&qid=1585324109&sr=8-10
    - Pulse ox https://smile.amazon.com/Deluxe-SM-110-Display-Finger-Oximeter/dp/B003TJH3LI/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=finger+pulse&qid=1585324228&rnid=2470954011&sr=8-5
    - Urine test strips to monitor for any protein as needed https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B071XTRPPT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    - Thermometer

While I'm personally not offering telemed to my patients, all of my colleagues have said they are recommending buying a pulse ox and BP cuff to their patients, as especially for OB, these are the vital signs they really care about in the current setting. I'd honestly buy them now because I think the availability will be scarce as hospitals start to formally recommend this to patients.

@Marfi: I'm glad a c-section is what you were planning on anyway, I'm sure that makes it easier to process the news! Are you still having bleeding? How will they monitor you for the placenta previa? How are you feeling?

@mrsbubbletea: any updates from the generic testing?

And to answer your question, yes this has been my OB-Gyn practice for many years, though the beloved Dr who delivered my son is gone from the practice, unfortunately.

@MoonMoon: Unfortunately I am still having bleeding. I don't think that it's anything worrisome right now but I'm going in again tomorrow to make sure everything's still good. Aside from that I'm doing well, just worried! Even though it's 'normal' I still don't like seeing the blood!

Are your offices still having you come in for appointments? Mine is having me come in every other month with phone/video appointments in between. I love this option especially because my office is inside of a hospital.

  36. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@littlebear16: I have been going in, with screening outside and a mask, no companions allowed. She offered me a video visit for my visit next week but I was like, I need to hear the heartbeat. So it's an in person visit. Honestly, my visits are so short and perfunctory, without getting to hear the heartbeat the prenatal visits feel totally useless so far.

  37. MountainBaby

    cherry / 160 posts

@littlebear16: Mine just started doing tele-visits, but they are optional (ie you could choose to go in person instead). However, all appointments after 30 weeks must be in-person so I'll only get to one televisit anyway. My last appointment was about 5 minutes long so I'm glad to be able to skip the drive for the quick "how are you" visits. It definitely helps that I'm at the stage where I can feel movement more reliably though, makes the reassurance of the heartbeat less critical.

  38. MrsMom

    kiwi / 568 posts

@littlebear16: My Dr. is still requiring all prenatal visits to be in office. But they are only seeing prenatals at this time so it makes me feel a little better.

I'm almost 18 weeks now and found out we're having our 3rd Boy. I had about 3 days of crying and overly emotional about it, but I have embraced that I'm just not meant to have a little girl. I was the only girl of 5 brothers and this being our last feels so final. I saved my Iron bed from when I was a little girl for my future daughter, and now I just have to hope one of my sons gives me a granddaughter one day.

  39. littlebear16

    cherry / 116 posts

@MrsMom: We're dealing with the opposite. We'll be having 3 girls. I was kind of hoping for a boy just to change up our family dynamic. My 2 girls fight pretty often so I wondered if a boy might help with that. But who knows.

  40. MoonMoon

    pomegranate / 3392 posts

@MrsMom: @littlebear16: Congrats on your little boy and girl respectively! I know disappointment can be real, but like you said it's what is meant to be, and that might reveal itself in special ways!
We opted not to find out the sex, but I'm finding the suspense much harder this time than last. Maybe at the 20 week scan I'll give in...
