@Honeydew: glad your appt went well!
@JJ2626: I was hoping to wait until after we told our parents on 8/12 at my sons birthday but I will be 15w then and I'm not sure if it will be obvious before then. I'm off the week after that for a week so I'm hoping to come back and tell them then. I've been pregnant each time while I'm the same job and have all female coworkers so it's gone over well when I have told. My office mate and I have been pregnant twice together!

@DesertDreams88: At first I was just using Sprout, now it's Sprout & Seedling! Or just "the babes."

@JJ2626: I was waiting until I found out about my promotion. I will probably tell HR soon, in confidence, to start working out leave issues. Then I plan to tell my boss & coworkers around 13 weeks, unless I'm obviously showing before then.

@JJ2626: Not telling work till I have the genetic results, but that's not going to be till at least 12 weeks because of timing! I don't think I'm showing though, but I'm sure my boss suspects because she knows I was doing IVF.

1. How far along today? 10 weeks exactly!
2. If you could pick your delivery date what would you pick? Well I'm due 2/13 so...exactly 2 weeks later! If I go too early then I'll have to come back for the busiest week of the year - would like to miss that!
3. Gut feeling on boy or girl? Will you find out? Girl, and yes we will we think. I'm ambivalent, hubs wants to.
4. What maternity clothing style do you love/hate the most? I'm all about the leggings and dresses in the fall; if there's a hate it will be buying winter clothes for only one winter.
5. What baby gear item will you start researching or purchase first? Hmm...not really believing this is for real yet but will probably start with crib and other bedroom items.

@JJ2626: I told my supervisor. I wanted her to know why I was taking random time off and generally just feeling like crap and not acting myself (we've had a lot of turnover recently, so I didn't want her to think I was interviewing), plus she's been honest with me about her fertility struggles so I felt comfortable telling her. I have an u/s Friday, so as long as everything is normal I will probably start telling other co-workers who I am close with next week.
It depends on your boss, but with both of my pregnancies I was comfortable telling my supervisor early and it made things a lot less stressful for me at work.

@LadyDi: Are you doing the NT scan on Friday? That's when ours is! I can't wait to see the little bean I also have the genetic blood testing on Friday too. Hopefully that won't take forever to come back.
persimmon / 1381 posts
@bushelandapeck: Yes! And the bloodwork too. The NT scan with my son took awhile and I remember there was a lot of poking my belly and getting into different positions. Hopefully he/she isn't as difficult. Good luck on Friday! Can't wait to see our beans!

@LadyDi: Thank you! I didn't have the genetic testing with my second because I wasn't AMA yet and had no high risk factors. I did have it with my son though because there were some soft markers for down syndrome on the anatomy scan. I think it took about a week for the results to come back. Are you going to find out the sex of the baby from the results? DH and I haven't decided if we will, or if we will wait until the anatomy scan on 9/5.

@Ergggg: IT'S APPOINTMENT DAY! IT'S APPOINTMENT DAY!
Looking forward to your update. And getting mine!

I have to admit all this genetic testing stuff is incredibly confusing to me. That'll probably be one of my big topics of conversation with my midwife today.
I dreamt that one of our babies had a genetic problem that causes severe retardation and we were considering what to do. That was a tough dream and I was glad to wake up from it. I think part of me worries that with two babies, there is twice the chance for something to go wrong. That probably doesn't make any sense though.

@dominobee: eek! Mines at 1. I'm taking a half day because I'm hosting a dinner tonite so it seemed like a good excuse!

@Ergggg: Mine's at 1 too!
I think I'm going to tell my boss sooner rather than later. This morning I was throwing up bile for no apparent reason and I texted him to say I'd be a little late because I wasn't feeling well, and I'd be in by 9:30. I just wanted to take the morning a little slower so I could avoid any more retching! I ended up getting here at 9:15 and then went into a meeting with a colleague. He texted me at 9:45 to say if I needed to take a sick day that was fine. I thought it was kind of funny since I was actually already here, but he just didn't realize that.
Anyway, I think I might just tell him after my appointment today to explain why mornings might be rough for me now and then. And also, if I do miscarry or something goes wrong, to explain why I might need a couple of days off to process my feelings.

@bushelandapeck: If we find out the gender at all we'll probably wait until the anatomy scan. We didn't find out with our first. I kind of want to this time around, just to do something different and maybe have a little gender reveal, but I know the hubs wants to wait. It's so tempting to find out as early as possible though!

Just got out of my appt! Dating scan put me at 7w1d which moves my due date to march 6. That kind of freaks me out that I am 6 days behind but my midwife didn't think it was crazy given my period patterns and timeline. HB was 148, that's good right? I thought this scan would calm my nerves but I feel more worried!

@Ergggg: Kinda sucks to lose almost a week! Just remember, the odds are in your favor that everything is perfectly fine.

Ok, well here's the answer to the first appointment ultrasound mystery: The midwife group does not have a transvaginal ultrasound wand, and it's really hard to see anything this early with an old-fashioned ultrasound machine. If this was a singleton pregnancy they would do a doppler, but the midwife said those aren't reliable until 10 weeks anyway, and they're even less reliable with twins.
BUT! She wheeled the traditional ultrasound machine into my exam room and gave it a shot - and we saw two heartbeats!
I am so relieved that we were able to confirm there are still two in there and their hearts are beating. She was impressed with the cardiac activity, and we even saw some fetal movement as well! I go back for my next appointment on 8/17.
I can't wait to tell my family this weekend! My mom was in town this week for my sister's birthday (she and I live in the same town about 4 hours from our parents) and she was kind of musing at how old all her kids are getting. She was like "My baby is 28!" And I was like "Yeah, and Anthony (big brother) is 37... he'll be 40 soon!" And she responded "And still no grandchildren!" It was everything I could do not to tell her! But I really want to tell her when we're all together this weekend. She's going to be so surprised and excited!!

@Ergggg: On the ultrasound print out I got, next to the age based on size, there's a week long "range" that is what the baby could really fall into. And if someone is just a tiny bit off when they place the points for measuring, it can change things by a day or more. That's why doctors usually don't sweat unless things are more than a week off.
And if you were basing age off your LMP, it only would have made sense to do so if you have perfect 28 day cycles. My doctor was actually shocked that my measurements matched up with that (as was I)

@dominobee: YAY!!!!!!!!! I am still super happy for you, and I can't wait to hear how your mom reacts to the news. Waiting 4 weeks btwn appts is really really hard, so I wish you luck trying not to drive yourself nuts.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Ergggg: Did she actually move the date or did she say to keep you where you're at? I've been off by a few days and the original date stayed the same.
@dominobee: What wonderful news! So glad you were able to confirm that everything is still going well and now you can tell your families this weekend!
@MaryM: My OB actually commented that my uterus wasn't measuring as big as she expected it to for 10+ weeks but that she wasn't concerned as it was within the range. She asked about my cycles and they actually are 28-30 days so she was less worried. I think there are a lot of things that are an approximation at this stage of pregnancy so I try not to get too worried about it.

@Ergggg: glad you heard the heartbeat!! I wouldnt be too concerned if your midwife isn't; this early, there's still such a range with the measurements, as others have said.
@dominobee: yay!! Glad you got to see the babes and all looked good

Thanks all for the work comments! My boss has 3 little kids so I think he'll be relatively supportive but I've been in my job less than a year so it's not ideal. I'll probably wait until after my NIPT results come in in about 2 weeks. But if the nausea gets worse I might have to tell sooner!
I am living off ginger chews these days. It's the only thing that helps.
pear / 1521 posts
@JJ2626: I have a love/hate relationship with the ginger chews. I think they're relatively gross but they do calm the nausea momentarily.
Having a rough day for nausea and vomiting over here. Chipotle is officially the worst thing ever to throw up. I'm home with my LO for the summer and everything is worse on the days we're not busy. But I'm so tired and it's so miserably hot and humid out that it's hard to get out. Just had buttered spaghetti for dinner
Those of you due earlier in the month, are you mostly feeling better now? I cannot wait for this nausea to be over.
@dominobee: so glad you got your ultrasound and can't wait to hear about how it goes telling your family this weekend! I imagine they're going to freak!

@dominobee: Camping while pregnant is brave, but I'm sure you will have a great time
pomelo / 5720 posts
@petitenoisette: I'll be 12w tomorrow and the nausea is still here. Less during the day but still pretty bad in the evenings. Hoping it lessens as I inch closer to the 2nd trimester!
pear / 1553 posts
@snarkybiochemist: I'll probably do a lot of beach napping under an umbrella. We're pretty experienced campers so I'm not really worried about any discomfort. I kinda hope I have a legit belly by then (it's already popping) that I can show off in a bathing suit.
nectarine / 2180 posts
@dominobee: Beach napping sounds up my alley. I just know for me that being hot increased my nausea times a million, even now that I'm in mid 2nd trimester. With a singleton at 15 weeks I had a tiny bump so I imagine you will have a bump earlier with twins.
pear / 1553 posts
@snarkybiochemist: LOL yes today I realized I definitely need to buy shade structures for the beach and campground. If I'm hot I'll just go in the ocean which is sure to be nice and cold! We'll be at the beach during the hottest part of the day.

@dominobee: Ocean and shade sound like a smart plans. The water is in the 70s I think.

Ugh. I feel SO gross today.
I was exhausted last night, so I went to bed at like 9. I think it totally backfired. I woke up at midnight to pee, then again at 2 a.m. DH was snoring and I felt sick for waking up so early and being so tired, but because I felt sick I couldn't fall back asleep. So I tossed and turned in our guest room until like 5 a.m. and "slept in" until 8.
I feel so sick now...
It's so not fair that when I'm tired I feel sick but when I feel sick I can't sleep!
persimmon / 1381 posts
@MaryM: Trying to get more rest has not worked for me. If I try to take a nap I feel terrible and nauseous when I wake up and then I sleep terribly at night. And I love myself some naps! It really isn't fair!
pomelo / 5129 posts
@LadyDi: It's been either one extreme or the other for me. I'm a champion napper...but most of the time I lay down and can't fall asleep for a nap.
I went to my mom's last week after having my niece visit for a long weekend. And I think my mom's bed transported me to a magical portal. I napped for a solid two hours and it was glorious! I feel like I've been slowly losing sleep ever since though.
I'm so glad I only work half day fridays and it's almost the weekend...
pear / 1553 posts
@MaryM: Ugh I'm sorry that sound so awful. My problem is that I'm exhausted by 8pm and usually lay on the couch for a while trying to keep my eyes open to watch TV or read until at least 9pm. I go to bed super early then at 2am or 5am or some other uncomfortable hour I'm wide awake and can't fall back to sleep. I don't want to complain too much though because my nausea really isn't bad at all. I hope you can find some sort of sleep schedule that works for you.
pomelo / 5129 posts
@dominobee: Yeah. I've been getting up at 2 a.m. most days to pee, but have usually been able to fall back asleep. I don't know if it was DH's snoring or what, but I just felt awful this morning.

I am having trouble sleeping, too... needing to get up to pee but also too hot, too cold, etc. I have started taking magnesium because it helps with sleep and constipation, and most prenatals don't have it. Not sure if it is working bc it's been just a few weeks, but glad to try!
Anyone interested in me starting a bump thread? I took my first pic last week at 8 weeks.
Also, I get my home doppler today in the mail and I am so anxious for it to arrive! I know it might be too early to catch anything, but I did get LO1 this early, so I'm hopeful. It would be great to ease some of my building anxiety as my appt approaches (next Tuesday).
pomelo / 5129 posts
I wonder if the sleep thing is partly mental. I saw my therapist on Monday and we both talked about how I've been shockingly not anxious so far and she asked how my sleep was. Up until then, it had mostly be fine. Since then...not so great.
