@Ergggg: I just don't drink and let them wonder! I don't really care if people guess I'm pregnant or trying to get pregnant, I just don't want to have a conversation with lots of people about it.

@JJ2626: I went for work drinks last night, ordered a virgin marg, and am SURE people are talking about me today. My next scan is Monday, so if all looks good I hope to tell them then!

@magnoliamama42: I'm in MA and in the shaded garage it's usually cool enough to car nap with the windows open. This week we had a cold snap and I had to turn the seat heaters on!

@skiierchck99: I keep thinking I'll tell people after one more good scan...but then after the next one, I should get the NIPT results about 5 days later, so I'll probably wait another week. But then I'll probably be really close to the NT scan, so who knows if I'll talk myself into waiting again.
But my niece is coming to visit in a week and a half, so I'm hoping I'll have the NIPT results by then. She asked me if I would tell her first (before her siblings) next time I got pregnant. Her parents know, but I'm waiting to tell the kids since it seems like every time I tell them, I lose the baby shortly afterward. Last time I told her I was pregnant, her first reaction was "Are you sure?" It broke my heart and made me love her more all at the same time.

You guys, the exhaustion is for real. I've been so so tired for the entire 10th week of my pregnancy. It just like hit me. I slept so well last night. From 9:30pm to 7:30pm and I am still so so tired. Counting down till my appointment next Friday, so nervous, and anxious!
pomelo / 5720 posts
@MaryM: did you have your NIPT yet? I am anxiously awaiting the results of mine but they said two weeks!
@Tionn3: ugh. The exhausting is awful! I've also had serious insomnia so that's not helping. Glad you got a good night of slee last night though!

@Tionn3: Yeah me too. Barely functional some days.
I've scheduled my NIPT blood draw for Monday and plan to tell folks if the results come back from that okay. My one co-worker who knows said today that it looks like I'm showing! Only 10w2d today but with twins I guess it happens earlier. I'm also short so there's not really anywhere for the bump to go but out.

@bushelandapeck: Mine is Monday. They said 5-10 days for results. I'm hoping for 5
Last time I think I got them on the 6th day. But my doctor was also out of the country...and I have a feeling the nurse
might have waited for my NT scan results because the NIPT results weren't good. It's probably good that I got all the test results on that one day instead of worrying until I had the NT done. Once the geneticist saw the ultrasound their office called my doctor's office and the nurse had the NIPT results ready for them.

I'm going to go for my NIPT on Saturday.... my OB told me that it takes usually 2 weeks to get the results, I hope it will be a little bit shorter than that so that I can find out before my birthday (august 6th)

@MaryM: I keep hoping to hear something this week but am anticipating next week just so I'm not dissapointed. Remind me, are you going to find out the sex of the baby too?
pomelo / 5720 posts
@DesertDreams88: my son is 8/8! I'm hoping to pick up an envelope at my OB appt that day with the sex of the baby so we can find out as a family Might have someone make a cake with blue or pink frosting inside just to see how the kids react.

@bushelandapeck: Yes. I never used to care one way or the other, but DH is all about knowing as much as he can as early as he can.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@MaryM: I know. My husband is the same. I would actually like to wait to find out when the baby is born because we already have one of each (boy/girl) but he wants to know. And it will be nice for the kids too

@bushelandapeck: aww! Love that idea we might do something similar, just for us and my son.

So many people getting their NIPTs soon!! exciting. our NT scan isn't for a couple weeks, so I'm impatiently waiting! I figure we will stop trying to keep the secret at that point, although it's not a very well-kept secret now, since my son knows

My doctor won't let me have the NIPT blood draw until 11 weeks. Is that pretty standard?
pomelo / 5129 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: last year my dr had me wait til 11 weeks. If your dates are off and you go too early, it doesn't work.
But this time, he suggested I come at 10w1d. Maybe he's more sure of my dates this time? (Measurements matched LMP)
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: we aren't doing it, but my dr. said it would be between 10-12 weeks. So sounds about right!

I did my NIPT test on Tuesday at 10w2d. They said the results take about a week, and it's definitely going to be the longest week!
My insurance also covered the NT scan, so I went ahead and scheduled that too. That appointment is on 8/10. Looking forward to a chance for another ultrasound!

My midwives haven't said anything about an NT scan. Is that normal?
Tonight I went to a meet the midwives event and we had to take an elevator for the tour. I don't know about you ladies, but elevators are the worst right now, they really exacerbate my nausea. I thought to myself that this would probably be the one circumstance where no one would judge me for throwing up in a crowded elevator full of strangers, haha.
grapefruit / 4361 posts
@dominobee: maybe bc they're midwives? My general impression of midwifery practice is less testing overall, including ultrasounds. I honestly am surprised you are going with a midwifery practice with twins - though, obviously, it's doable. Will they refer you to a perinatologist for check-ins later in the pregnancy? I would think that would be standard for a twin pregnancy, maybe check with other twin mamas to see if that's the case. I know my two twin mama friends both saw a perinatologist or MFM (or both?) for their pregnancies but those were identical twins.

Anyone tossing around names yet? We have a full girl name picked out (and like, 4 others, haha), and the first name for a boy but no middle name. Juliana for a girl and Atlas for a boy.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@dominobee: strange. With my first pregnancy, I was at a midwife practice and they definitely discussed setting up the NT scan and blood work etc. I would ask.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@DesertDreams88: nice! I love Atlas; what a great name. We haven't really discussed it much yet. With my first pregnancy, we had talked about it, but not in earnest until after the anatomy scan when we found out the sex. I imagine we will do the same this time.
pear / 1553 posts
@DesertDreams88: The practice is at a hospital and there's an OB at every birth. I'll also see an OB once during my prenatal care. I'm not really worried about having the resources needed if complications arise. What I am worried about is not being taken seriously in my desire for an unmedicated vaginal birth (if baby A is head down) and I know that the midwives will advocate for me on that front.
pear / 1553 posts
@theotherstark: I'm getting the NIPT testing, but not the NT scan. What's the advantage of doing both?
pear / 1553 posts
@DesertDreams88: We have two full girls' names using my two moms' first names as middle names and DH's mom's middle name as a first name for one. The other first name came to me in a dream. Boys' names are not as locked in yet but we have ideas.
persimmon / 1381 posts
@DesertDreams88: Ohhh Juliana, I love that!
If it's a boy I would like David to be the middle name (it's my dad and brother's name). No first name yet, DH and I do not see eye to eye on boys names...I really like Benjamin right now though.
For a girl, I think our front runner is Adeline (or Adelyn), which was our top girl pick when we had our first but we had a boy. I also really love the name Emmeline, which I just heard recently and fell in love with.

@dominobee: NIPT only tests for a handful of the most common chromosomal issues (and gender). It's more definitive for those issues than the NT, but it's limited in what it can look for.
The NT measures the fluid in the nuchal fold. In addition to the trisomies, too much fluid can also be an indicator of heart problems. But the NT scan only tells you if you have high or low risk of your baby having a trisomy. It's not as accurate as the NIPT. And you can't be certain of gender that early in an ultrasound either.

@DesertDreams88: We have a boy name ready to go because DH is a junior, so a boy will have his name.
Because of that, I get to pick girls names. I've always considered Margaret Mariah (Maggie Mae), but am also starting to lean toward Maria Terese.
My mom's name is Mariah, but was always pronounced like Maria. She insists she named me after family and not herself, but I sort of like the idea of continuing that tradition (and if DH can name kids after himself, so can I!)
If we went with Maggie Mae, it would also have the same initials as me, which I think is fun.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@DesertDreams88: no set names for us yet. DS shares his name with DH and my FIL so we will be able to pick whatever we want if it's a boy or a girl! I have a few names kicking around but we haven't really even talked names yet. Probably after the NIPT results and after we tell our families in a couple of weeks.
pear / 1553 posts
@DesertDreams88: For some reason I can't edit my original post, but wanted to share our names too!
Girls: Nora Sue (MIL's middle name + my late biological mom's first name) and Justine Patricia (name that came to me in a dream + mom who raised me's first name).
One boy & one girl: Nora Sue & Michael Patrick (Dad & DH's middle name plus male version of Patricia - DH was estranged from his father and didn't feel strongly about naming a child after him).
Two boys: This one's a little trickier because there's really no way to come up with a male version of Sue. So I might just abandon the 'honoring parents' thing all together rather than honor three of them (MIL's first name is Francine so male version would be Francis for a middle name) but not my birth mom. Potential boys' names still include Michael but also James. Don't have much figured out beyond that. Anyone else feel like boys' names are much harder?!
persimmon / 1381 posts
@dominobee: I love Nora but our best friends just named their daughter that! Great names!
pear / 1553 posts
@LadyDi: Thanks! I was slightly bummed when I looked it up and saw it's getting trendy but then I thought, screw it, it's a family name!
pomelo / 5129 posts
@dominobee: I always like Norah. My mom had an Aunt Norah.
Could your mom's maiden name be used at all for a boy?
