I think DH and I are planning on skipping the NT scan. I think I'll be too anxious if the results come back with any increased odds. I'm more of a yes/no person rather than maybe. Did anyone get the Maternit21/Harmony test done? I have a dr. appt next Tues and might be interested in this test. I also need to check with insurance to see what they cover. Did your insurance cover these tests? If not, how much did you pay OOP?

@futuremama: Is this different from the regular blood work you get done as part of the NT scan? I had to do blood work as well as the scan but I'm not sure what the actual name for those tests was, I know they were checking for abnormalities that might signal a risk of chromosal defects like trisomy 18 and 21

@Mrsbells: yes, it is a different test. The NT bloodwork just looks for markers that might indicate a higher rush. This test gives a definitive yes or no on the downs/trisomy.

I had a full blood panel run, but i was told they would only cover it if the NT scan showed heightened risk.
I also think (i can't remember) they said that if it's not covered by insurance, the company wants people to have this test done, so they cap the out of pocket costs at a certain amount. We met with a genetic counselor before we had ours done--they can give you good specifics! Our genetic counselor was tied to a perinatologist's office in a hospital

We did the Maternity 21 test because we had three soft markers during our anatomy scan. Our insurance covered a lot of it, but we still had to pay a $200+ copay. I felt like it was well worth the money for the peace of mind.

I'm scheduled to do ours on Sept 10th. We did similar blood work last time, but not the full harmony scan. This time, we wanted to do the Harmony test because I am older and I want the peace of mind (and it is a perk to find out the gender of the baby a little earlier).

Yes, I got the Harmony test and am really glad that I did. It's just a blood draw, and it's a diagnostic test instead of screening. I got the results back the day after my NT scan. It was definitely worth it for the peace of mind. As an added bonus, you can find out the gender at around 12 weeks if you want to!

Not a March mama, but I've been thinking about this. I didn't want to do the NT test at first, but I think I'm going to ask about the other ones...I have a sister with a birth defect, and while I would never want to terminate, I think it's good to be prepared. I at least want to ask about it.

We skipped all those tests. We even skipped the dating ultrasound this time around because I'm absolutely sure of my dates and my MW said it's not necessary if I know my dates well enough. For me, the genetic testing would cause more anxiety than it would cure, and the extra USs are just more time I have to take off/make up at work.

So glad I saw this b/c our doctor gave us the option of doing the NT scan or just a blood test in the 2nd tri. We're not doing the NT scan, so we'll be doing the blood test. I'd heard about the Harmony test on HB a while back, but wasn't sure that's what I'd be getting but it must be. Is there another test that they could be doing with a blood draw instead? I'd love to find out the gender early!

This time around I'm doing all ultrasounds. Not for genetic testing, but because I want to keep seeing my babe.
I won't do CVS or amniocentesis, though, even if the US said there might be something to look out for.
The Harmony thing sounds interesting, though.

We are doing any of the non-invasive testing offered. Mainly to be prepared if we need to be, but also any chance to see the baby! I have my NT scan on Tuesday.

Just had the regular NT scan with blood tests, that came back low risk - I think thats all we will do.
