I was already on Metformin pills so the endocrinologist upped my dosage.

I did both. I got a lot of pushback about using Metformin past the 1st tri. So I went off it and my numbers went to hell and I needed insulin.

@ShootingStar: really? My RE told me to stay on it during my entire pregnancy and the endocrinologist told me that starting Metformin would've been their first choice if I wasn't already on it.

@swedishfish: Yeah, they were extremely against it. My OB's office was like "well, it's your choice" but the endocrinologist was adamant that it was a bad idea. I had read lots about people staying on it and I was comfortable with it. But she insisted that since metformin crosses the placenta it had potential to be harmful and insulin is the only diabetes medication proven safe during pregnancy. She said if I insisted on an oral med she would want me on Glyburide instead.
