I was going to say that one. I don't think being Team Green means you don't like planning... or not planning. I don't know, I just don't think there's a relation! Usually when people say that they mean they like knowing if they can buy frilly things

Same exact one. I'm a planner too- I planned a neutral room and got enough neutral clothes for the first few months, then we were bombarded with pink stuff after she was born.

Or the comments about its so annoying to other people because they can't buy them cute clothes. I appreciate anyone wanting to buy me anything, but you can just wait a few months and buy it later. I have so many adorable dresses given after she was born that she wore once at best.

On the flip side the comments that made the most sense were people saying they felt more connected once they knew the sex. That made a lot of sense.

@Iced Tea: couldn't agree more. So many of my coworkers insist that I know and am just not telling them. One even said it was "passive agressive" to everyone who is so excited for me. Ugh.

Oh you're one of those people. Eye roll.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I was never offended or anything by the planner line! I just thought it was silly. But it's plenty silly to not find out the sex when the info is right there for the ultrasound tech to see anyway, so there you go.

Ugh my mom insisted we knee the sex for months after the baby was born.

What bugged me the most was "it doesn't matter as long as it's healthy." Umm...what? I will still love it even if it's not healthy!

@jedeve: I would never actually say this, but in my head I follow up with "oh and what do you want it to be if it's not healthy?" Ha- I get that they're just expressing they have no gender preference, but the two things have nothing to do with each other. Plus it's just silly for other people to make your baby all about them.

I'm not getting anything too bad or any comments I consider ridiculous. But my favorite (and most common):

Person: "What is it?" (Pointing at my belly)

Me: "It's a baby."

(Or "what are you going to have?" "A baby.")

@jetsa: While that is one definition of planning, can it not also pertain to other aspects such as names, things like circumcision, preparing an older LO for their baby sibling is much easier when you can say she or he...

Most everyone was really excited and supportive of us not finding out, but it drove my stepmother crazy. I can't remember the exact wording, but more than once she complained that we were doing it just to make *her* life harder. She even once suggested that she could call my doctor and ask her to tell her or "let it slip" to us! (a pipe dream, for sure, but it earned a full-body eye roll...)

@Espion: oh yeah, forgot the "do you know what it is?" Questions. Yup I know it's a baby. I was a sport and answered "we aren't finding out the sex" anyway.

Oops, I've totally said that. But I do like gender specific stuff. I'm also way too impatient to wait.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I've gotten all the comments. I guess since this is my 2nd time being team green? Or I got one just barely that said "find out, that way it becomes a real person".

Or, "find out because I need to know", "find out or I won't be able to get you a present".

I don't mean to be rude but it does start getting kind of funny when people make it known how frustrating it is to THEM that they don't know the gender or YOUR baby.

@jetsa: I've dedinitely said, "I could never do that, I'm too much of a planner." I'll try to remember not to say it anymore, but I do sort of feel like there are things you can plan for when you know the sex that you can't plan for otherwise. That's not to say you can't prepare/plan when you are team green, but I do feel like it's a little different. We didn't want a gender neutral nursery, so waiting to find out would have meant waiting to plan/paint the nursey. We could have planned one for each gender, but we had enough trouble making decisions about one plan. Also, whether or not to circumcize was not something my husband and I agreed upon, and I didn't really want to have to figure that one out if it wasn't necessary. Same thing with picking a name. That being said, I can see your point too.

@Cherrybee: yep!!! It's insane. My sister due with a girl first of janurary, my older brother having twin girls end of janurary or beginning of feb, my little brother having a girl end of Feb and me having a baby end of march or beginning of april.

With baby #1 I wanted to be team green but gave in to peer pressure and found out the gender. We walked out of the ultrasound room and I regretted finding out before we had even made it to the waiting room. So far I haven't gotten any irritating comments but we haven't announced to anyone outside of close family and close friends. But I cant see 1 single thing that I need to plan for if #2 is a boy or a girl. This baby will be in our room for the first 6 monthd or so (like DS was) so no need to worry about a nursery), DS is a boy so we already know what we want to do for circ, and we will go in to the hospital with a boy name and a girl name. Easy peasy.

@Iced Tea: I see what you are saying and can see why that comment would be annoying. Never really thought of it that way. I think when people say, "I'm too much of a planner" it generally means "I dislike uncertainty/not knowing...I like having specific plans." My husband is someone who likes to have a fairly specific itinerary when traveling; he gets super anxious when I start bringing up other options/contingencies... so I think that is a big part of why he wanted to find out baby's gender. He likes to feel like he has control and knows what to expect. He is not someone who likes surprises. I do, and could see myself going team green with a different partner, but in our relationship, it's definitely best for us to find out. Anyway, I've learned something. Thanks!

@jedeve: yes! I always want to say that about the healthy comments. I know people mean no harm, and it's just the preprogrammed thing to fill the silence, but still... for all they know we might already have some diagnosis!

Most comments I got about team green were positive, but I got tired of people using it as an excuse to analyze and comment on my body. "Must be a ____ because you're carrying like ____ " Eye roll.

Everyone has been really excited that I'm TG. I'm fairly early so there is more room for comment, but so far it's been really positive. I may luck out all the way around on pregnancy comments. The only comment that made me look sideways was a coworker who said she couldn't imagine caring for another human being. My thought, then it's a good thing you aren't.
