@kristinleigh: so glad you are feeling better!

It's baby girl #3 for us! Everything came back perfectly so no more worrying!

@oliviaoblivia: Congratulations on another beautiful baby girl! Your kids are super gorgeous, I am so excited you'll be adding another beauty into the world.

Hi mommies and mommies-to-be, sorry I have been so quiet. This pregnancy is so different than with my daughter, so much harder on me physically. I am positive it's just growing ligament pains and it's never the same spot but it comes and goes. So I do get to catch a break every few days. I felt so sick over the weekend, super crampy but it went away yesterday. Today I feel a lot better. I will be 17 weeks tomorrow and was able to secure an appointment earlier than originally scheduled! Hopefully they can reveal to me the gender of baby #2 tomorrow.

@mrs.shinerbock: I feel little bubbles here and there but it's not a strong flutter like I felt with my DD. I read that it's anywhere between 16-20 weeks to feel the first kicks, hope we can feel those soon!

@Kimberlybee: thanks so much! I wish you were feeling better. My second pregnancy was my hardest. Random excruciating pain was so difficult to deal with while chasing L. Good luck tomorrow! Do you have gender guesses? I say boy for you!

    @gracecat: exciting!
    @oliviaoblivia: girl #3?! Wow awesome!
@Kimberlybee: this pregnancy has been a lot harder on me than the first too.

Ugh. So my inappropriate coworker who I was purposefully not telling about my pregnancy heard it from someone else in the office.

She's supposed to be on vacation, but is here this afternoon anyway. WTH?

Anyway, she came in my office and said "Mary! Do you have a baby bump?"

No. It's not at all awkward to have someone staring at your body while you're sitting at your desk working... Thanks for acknowledging that I'm looking fat instead of that there's a human being in me!

@oliviaoblivia: Congrats on Baby Girl #3!! I come from a family of three girls and it is the BEST!!!

Thanks ladies! It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one that can't feel the baby yet.

@kristinleigh: glad you are feeling better. It's amazing what just a teeny bit of dehydration can do to your body.

@Kimberlybee: This pregnancy has been so much harder than my first as well. To the point that I hope it's a boy so we can adopt the rest and I don't have to be pregnant again.

@oliviaoblivia: Congratulations on girl #3! I have two sisters and it's great.

@oliviaoblivia: That's the perfect way I would describe my condition "random excrutiating pain". I had a dream the other night that there was a little baby boy wearing a white onesie looking back at me during a routine sonogram so I am thinking boy. But my husband thinks it's a girl and everyone who looks at belly says it's a girl because the belly is round and wide?! Boy or girl we'll be 2 and through for sure. Thinking of getting my tubes tied but scared of the extra pain during recovery after a C-section in conjunction with getting my tubes tied. I will update with my baby news tomorrow evening!

@Kimberlybee: ha ha well my bump is round and wide and I'm having a boy. I'm also sicker and have pimples and baby has a high heart rate all which is supposed to mean girl. NOPE!

@travellingbee: Yeah these old wives tales are so laughable and I am hearing it all to the point where I just zone them out. I get comments on how tired I look lately, geez thanks! Congrats on your boy BTW.

Speaking of inappropriate, I was a bit surprised when another mom of two asked me and another mom if our second pregnancies were planned or an accident. Then, to top it off, she asked us about our weight gain. If it was someone else I would just blow it off but I thought experienced moms should know better?

Btw we are having lots of fun dealing with my toddler's stomach bug the past couple of days. she threw up 6 times in 5 hours. Luckily she's pretty resilient and is getting spoiled rotten with cuddling and iPad time. "Waaaaatch?" is her most frequent word today. I feel bad I'm not paying much attention to bean #2 or bonding or focusing on this baby at all like I did with DD. poor thing, it's starting already...

@MaryM: Yesterday I had someone comment on my pregnancy purely based on my appearance (she works in my building, but not at my firm, so she would not have heard from someone else).

  18. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@gracecat: The weight thing totally gets me. I mean, if we weren't pregnant, would that be ok??

Another coworker said "OMG! You're showing!" when I was standing awkwardly and didn't realize I was sort of highlighting my bump (I'm still wearing pretty loose shirts). I felt the same way about that.

Maybe I'm weird for thinking this way, but being pregnant now, I feel TOTALLY different about people poking, talking to, or commenting on pregnant bellies. I mean, my baby/uterus is still pretty tucked down in there, so what they're actually commenting on are my displaced intestines and belly fat. That's so weird!

But at least I have yet had someone ask me if I'm pregnant or assume I am. I'm sure my coworker heard from someone else (everyone but her and one other person knew by now). I was sort of running an experiment to see how long it could last!

@MaryM: oh awesome! Quilting is so fun, but it is so much work!! I am so slow right now I need to check out those craftsy kits - I love the craftsy classes! I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow! It is so strange to be feeling a lot better, but not be able to feel baby move yet - if it wasn't for my rapidly expanding tummy I might actually forget that I was pregnant some days! Other days I definitely remember

@gracecat: so exciting!! Did the first ultrasound show maybe boy and now the Dr is saying probably girl? We did the Harmony test which said girl, but I am still waiting for that ultrasound confirmation in 2 weeks

@oliviaoblivia: congrats! Yay for little girls

@kimberlybee: sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well - hope tomorrow's appointment goes well!!

@lauren0817: yes I was sure we saw some balls in the ultrasound but no penis, but this time there was nothing! So I think it is a girl but I need confirmation.

@gracecat: ahhh I see! I've heard it can be pretty difficult to tell early on, so hopefully it will become very obvious over the coming weeks

So almost all the HB commenters on my 13 week ultrasound were right..... BOY it is!

@marym: Aw, darn that particular coworker found out! But, you almost made it halfway, so that's pretty impressive

My first unprompted "Are you pregnant?" question from a stranger was at 14 weeks, and I get it 2-3 times a week now. I've also gotten a couple of random belly rubs. It's weird but it doesn't bother me. I'm just really happy to be pregnant, pretty much every aspect of it.

@gracecat: Oy vey!! I know I'd be driven up a wall if the gender was unsure or changed.... I'd rather know or not know baby's gender, not be in the middle!

  27. MaryM

@DesertDreams88: I think I'm so self conscious about everything because of my history. I felt sick when I realized if something happened, I'd have to deal with everyone knowing. Only my bosses and one work friend knew about our previous loss.

Thank got my next appointment is in 12 hours not that I'm counting down...

@DesertDreams88: Congratulations!! What an adorable photo

  29. DesertDreams88

@marym: I get that. It makes my stomach turn too when I think about that possibilty, but then I just have to tell myself rationally that at this point, there would be no way that I could hide my emotional reaction and missing multiple weeks of work, so... yeah. Also, being really open about my loss (back then and now) has also been part of my processing, so a lot of people are particularly happy for me bc of that.

  30. lauren0817

    apricot / 369 posts

@DesertDreams88 and @marym: unfortunately I understand that worry all too well. I have been very slow in telling people which is partially for that reason. Desertdreams88- I think your point about not being able to hide it if God forbid something happened and really needing support from others is a good one - I try to remind myself of that as well. My doctor was very reassuring at our appointment on Monday about how risks are so low at this point - I know there is never a "no risk" time though so I think I still hold on to that. Pregnancy after a loss can be really, really hard Sending hugs to both of you!

My appointment went good. They found the heartbeat super fast!

My biggest fear now is birthing a giant baby. DH is often mistaken for a pro football player (he's about 6'4 and just a large guy...not fat persay, just big!) and my fundal height is higher than they expect.

But I'm glad to be measuring large since my first scans measured behind.

And I get to go back in three weeks for the anatomy scan instead of four. WOO! (but I'm going to have to reschedule because of a work conflict)

@MaryM: Oh good!! I hope they find my little one's fast tonight! 5 hours until my appointment.. ahh. Thank goodness I'm pretty busy at work today so I'm keeping somewhat sane and distracted from worrying!

My scans had all been measuring ahead, even though we all know when I ovulated exactly!

My anatomy scan is in 3 weeks too Actually 20 days now!

So, I unexpectedly began the conversation with my boss today about maternity leave.

I had my annual review, and in talking about goals (and how I have no idea what goals should be since I'll be gone for the last quarter!) she asked that I think about what will need to be done in advance/during my leave (our team will pick up the slack)

I mentioned someone on a related team (my boss and her boss report to the same person) worked from home part time toward the end of her leave last time she had a baby in order to stretch her leave, help the office by getting some work done, and transition more easily. My boss asked me to find out exactly what she did so she can present it to her boss as a possibility. That gives me hope!

We usually aren't very telework friendly, but I would LOVE if I could do that part time (and get paid!) instead of having to come in for a full 8 hours my first day and spend days digging through mountains of email.

@MaryM: I'm in the same boat with my job as you. My job could easily be done from home (I do pediatric nursing case management) and December is our busiest time and I will be going out December 1st. I said if I could work from home, I would work an additional 2-4 weeks part time so my team doesn't have to pick up my caseload during the busiest time. I'm thinking it will be shot down, but it would be nice if it worked out. So mine would be kind of opposite of yours.. I would work more in the beginning than at the end. I would stay in the office until my EDD but I commute an hour each way and once it gets darker out earlier in NJ then it will take me about an hour and fifteen minutes to get home and I don't feel comfortable doing that when I'm 9 months pregnant.

My midwife appt last night went great! Baby's heartbeat was perfect and strong and loud which made me smile so big and feel A LOT better. I told my midwife how nervous I get and she told me the risk of anything happening is EXTREMELY low at this point and I need to just relax. And I rationally KNOW this but applying it is the hard part!

    19 days until gender

@kristinleigh: I'm hoping to do the same thing toward the end. We get a decent break for Christmas (I think it's a week and a half this week), so after that, I should only work a week or week and a half before I'm due. I'm hoping my doctor might suggest I work from home instead of commuting, because some days the commute home is an hour and half. I'm already uncomfortable on the drive home, I can't imagine how much worse it's going to get!

Luckily, the spring semester tends to be fairly slow for us. It's the next month and a half that are going to be hell.
