@Pastemoo: I had a doula when my DS was born and felt she was worth every penny. She helped me feel calm and focused, and I think was crucial in helping me attain my goal of a med-free birth. I think we'll hire her again for this birth.

Just had my follow up ultrasound. Baby measured right on at 10+1 with a HB of 161 and was wiggling around! We got to hear the HB this time which was fun! Unfortunately the cyst is still there and hasn't shrunk at all. Was really hoping it would be gone they'll check it again in 2 weeks at my NT scan.

@catomd00: yay that baby looked good on the ultrasound! boo about the cyst, but at least it didn't grow? hope it starts shrinking!!

I haven't posted in a while because I was waiting for my first appointment. Everything looks good. Since I waited to go in my first ultrasound is already supposed to be next week. I'm excited it is so soon! Doc had my due date as 6/7/16 instead of 6/6 but LO1 was almost two weeks late so I don't put much stock in due dates.

@brownepiano: yay!! what did they check at your first appointment if you didn't have an ultrasound? can't wait to hear how your first ultrasound goes next week! which day is it on?

@brownepiano: yay! @catomd00: exciting! good luck with the cyst, i hope it goes down next time. isn't 10 weeks early for it to go down for a luteal cyst? Or is it something else?@Alba4: Thank you. We are getting a doula this time (did not last time), and I think it is already helping me freak out less.

@catomd00: yay for a good ultrasound! I hope that your cyst starts shrinking. What will they do if it doesn't?

Finally got my insurance figured out and have an appointment on the 20th. I don't think it's for an ultrasound though. I'll already be 10.5 weeks by then! It took me forever to get my insurance straightened out and to find a obgyn that accepted my insurance and was taking new patients.

@starlitsky: That's great that you had a great scan! So glad the baby was measuring spot on target

@Purpledaisy: Welcome! Sorry to hear that the insurance was a headache but glad it's all straightened out now.

@catomd00: Yay for a great scan but boo to the cyst still being there. As pastemoo said though, I think 10 weeks is still pretty early for it to go away....

@MrsKRB: I think you may have gotten me mixed up with someone else as I haven't had a scan yet - still waiting on my first appt, which is a week from Monday! It won't be a scan though, just a booking in appt with the midwife. Hoping for a dating scan but have a feeling the NT will be my first scan.

@brownepiano: Exciting to have your first scan next week!

@pastemoo: No doula for me - I just want all the drugs as soon as possible, so a doula would probably be pretty bored with me! Also, my last labour was exactly six hours, so hoping the next one is even quicker!

My first pregnancy symptom has kicked in this week - crazy, crazy dreams! I had them with both of my girls - in fact, it was how I knew to test when I was pregnant with DD2! They've been so off the wall that I almost don't feel as though I'm sleeping, but I know I am.....so, so weird! I never remember my dreams usually, but now it's as though I'm watching some overly dramatic soap opera incorporating all these random people from my past that I haven't thought about in years...

@STARLITSKY the first appointment was just to get a baseline and make sure everything is OK. So they took blood, weight, height, and did an internal exam. The first ultrasound for me is supposed to be between 8-10 weeks and it is a dating ultrasound to make sure my dates and the size match up. I'm with the same practice I was with for LO#1 so not too many surprises.

  12. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

Ultrasound is scheduled for the 18th, so not next week but that was the soonest possible. I want to mail my parents a surprise announcement before they come for thanksgiving and I think this will be just in time!

  13. starlitsky

    clementine / 795 posts

@Purpledaisy: yay glad you got insurance figured out and set up your first appointment!

@Ree723: thank you! I've been having some crazy dreams too, but I usually can't remember them unless I write down them right after I wake up.

@brownepiano: ah I see! that's good you know what to expect. that sounds like good timing for the surprise announcment! do you know how you're going to do it yet? ultrasound pic?

I've been feeling really tired and irritable lately! I had a genetics counseling appointment scheduled for the 18th (at 10 weeks) but they said the counselor can't do that day anymore and the next available appt was early Dec, so I opted to do a webinar next Friday. I'm hoping to get scheduled for a NIPT asap! hopefully either thanksgiving week or the week after. Is anyone else planning to get NIPT done?

  14. Dr. Pepper

    apricot / 461 posts

@starlitsky: I want to get NIPT done but I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it because I'm only 31. I need to call them and find out, but they always give me the run around and make me mad, so I haven't yet.

New pregnancy symptom- I'm so exhausted. Like, I cannot function. I've gone to bed at 8:30pm the last two nights and I still cannot stay awake at work. To make matters worse, caffeinated beverages sound disgusting to me right now, so I can't drink those to help

5 more days until my ultrasound. Cannot wait. I'll be 7 weeks 1 day by then, so they had better see something.

  15. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@Purpledaisy: they just said they'll watch it and if it starts twisting my ovary they'd have to do surgery...hoping that doesn't happen!!

  16. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@Dr. Pepper: have you tried tea for a little caffeine? It's all that I've been able to stomach and actually soothes my stomach a bit. I had been feeling pretty good for a few days , but the nausea and exhaustion is back. So ready for the second trimester!!

@starlitsky: I'd love to get NIPT but they don't do it unless you have poor results on the sequential testing. Lame!

  17. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@Purpledaisy: glad you got one! What a relief!
@Ree723: that is pretty cool about a six hour labor! I haven't had the pregnancy dreams yet, I forgot they were a thing!
@brownepiano: yay for an ultrasound. after all that, i'm getting on for the new OB office, a dating ultrasound at 10/11 ish weeks. I'm curious and excited.
@starlitsky: no NIPT for me unless they force me. interesting that they reschedule for such a later date! I'm tired and grumpy too. And losing weight again, I was so proud of myself for gaining.
@Dr. Pepper: exhaustion is the worst!

  18. Mrs. Peanut

@starlitsky: What is NIPT? DH and I are generally in favor of as few tests as possible so I doubt it would be something I was interested in, but I haven't heard of it before.

    @Purpledaisy: Welcome!

@Dr. Pepper: I feel really tired too. I tried to cut out caffeine from my diet as much as possible, but working out actually makes me feel more energized. It is literally the exact opposite thing from what I want to do 99% of the time (I never was really into it), but it helps so much afterwards! I'm even yawning like crazy during, but it makes a huge difference. I bought a workout DVD for pregnant women (body by trimester). So far I really like it! It's intense but she reinforces that it's okay if you can't do everything she is; just do what you're comfortable with. I like that she's pregnant too. For some reason pregnancy workouts being taught by women who aren't pregnant seems weird to me. Like, are you sure this is safe? Are you sure you would push that hard? I'd recommend her!

I'm 7 weeks exactly today and DH and I both notice a little bump in my upper stomach under my breasts. Could it just be from working out and toning muscles or moving organs? I can't see it being actually "showing" this early.

I feel like I haven't had too much to add here, just quietly hanging out over here waiting for the second trimester
I updated the list, I think I caught all the changes, let me known if I missed something. Also, if anyone is team green, or as we start finding out sex, I can add that too!

    @MrsKRB:

Good question! I very much want to be team green and my husband very much wants to find out. This was the same conundrum for DS1 and he got to find out so I am hoping to win this one because it's "my turn."

  21. Mrs. Peanut

    apricot / 347 posts

@MrsKRB: Looks good to me! We are team green. I wanted to find out, but DH convinced me to wait. I feel like it's a boy, but who knows!

  22. MrsKRB

    nectarine / 2465 posts

@pastemoo: we are the opposite over here, I want to find out and my she wants to be TG, but I got my way, haha. I agree that you should get your turn this time!

  23. Ree723

    grapefruit / 4819 posts

We're TG again...for the third time! The first time we were both strongly in favour of being TG, the second time I kind of wanted to find out but DH loved being TG so much, I was happy to go along with it again. And now this time, as it's our last baby, we both definitely want to stay TG. It is quite fun and we've really enjoyed the surprise! For the record though, my initial feeling is boy, but I thought that with DD2 until I had my first ultrasound and realised everything was identical to DD1 (heart rate, size and shape of head, symptoms - everything!), at which point I became convinced she was a girl...and she was!

  24. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@MrsKRB: I'm June 1st now but no big deal!

I'm definitely not TG! In fact, I was just at Stride Rite and they are closing so everything was 70% off. I saw the most adorable baby girl Sperry's for $10 and I couldn't pass them up lol. My BFF just found out she's pregnant, so I figured if I don't have a girl maybe she will or I'll just donate them.

  25. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

Definitely not team green over here as well. We were with LO 1 but then had to have an extra scan and changed our minds right before it so got to find out. I was set on having a girl and pretty disappointed for a few days that we were having a boy!

  26. Alba4

    nectarine / 2951 posts

We found out the sex for DS and we'll find out the sex for this baby too. It was still incredibly exciting and I thought it helped with bonding and choosing a name (which was hard enough)!!!

I think we find out the sex earlier this pregnancy since I'm 35. Maybe around 12 weeks? My Dr. Mentioned the test materni21? I'll have to verify at my next appointment on Friday.

  27. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@alba4 12 weeks? The last time I scheduled my ultrasound for right at 18 weeks (it was supposed to be between 18 and 20) and the tech was frustrated. She said everyone always schedules them early but it is easier to see if you wait a few weeks.

  28. Alba4

    nectarine / 2951 posts

    @brownepiano

Since I'm technically AMA, I'll find out the sex through a blood test instead of the traditional 20 week scan.

  29. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@alba4 Wow! I've never heard of that. I'm looking it up now.

  30. catomd00

    grapefruit / 4418 posts

@brownepiano: yeah I think the new standard is 20-22w. We did our first around 18 though I think as recommended and the tech didn't seem to mind or have issues seeing anything.!

  31. starlitsky

    clementine / 795 posts

@Alba4: @brownepiano: yes! that's what I was referring to earlier as NIPT (@Mrs. Peanut: NIPT = non-invasive prenatal test. it's a blood test that screens for genetic conditions and you can also find out the sex as early as 10 weeks!). There are a few different brands like MaterniT21, verifi, Harmony, Panorama...

  32. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@starlitsky I wish my practice did that instead of the sequential. I opted out of the sequential last time because I was paranoid about another mc. I don't think I'll do them this time either.

  33. starlitsky

    clementine / 795 posts

@Dr. Pepper: even if your insurance doesn't cover NIPT, I read that you can get one of them (I forget which one) done at a lower cost? Maybe something to look into! I haven't asked my insurance yet but I'm assuming it'll be covered since I'm over 35.

  34. starlitsky

    clementine / 795 posts

@brownepiano: I thought sequential (blood test + nuchal ultrasound) was low risk/risk-free? Or are you talking about CVS? That one kinda scares me!

  35. brownepiano

    persimmon / 1467 posts

@starlitsky I think it is pretty low risk if none. I was just super paranoid with LO 1. And when they say 'optional' I tend to opt out, especially now having to find a babysitter every time I have an appointment.

    Hi ladies

I had my scan last Monday. I should have been around 8w3d. Baby only measured 6w2d and no heartbeat. I met with my midwife and she had my HCG levels tested and they've dropped so I'm experiencing a missed miscarriage. They want me to go back this Wednesday to confirm there hasn't been any growth and then I'll be referred to a miscarriage clinic. Luckily I was already on leave from work for a week so I've been able to process this and to cry and now I'm back at work.

The worst part is pretending that I'm okay and having to smile and act like I had a nice break from work when really I'm just heartbroken.

Just removing myself from the list. I really hope everyone has healthy pregnancies.
