@starlitsky: yes, it was pretty much the same. My ob is a little more high tech than my RE though, so the ultrasound was projected onto a large flat screen tv on the wall which was pretty cool!

First tests are back - progesterone 63.3 (up from 48 last week) and hcg in the early thousands (didn't say exact numbers, but they were happy with it). I can breathe again.

@starlitsky : Yes, my u/s is tomorrow. Glad yours went well. Why did you have the glucose test (if you don't mind me asking) doesn't that normally come later?

@madeyetbeautiful : Glad your ultrasound looks promising & your numbers are backing it up!

@pastemoo : I've lost 5 pounds since finding out, however, since starting these new vitamins (+B6) and wearing sea bands, I am feeling semi normal. Its nice. I don't think I am showing yet, but I do have a bloated tummy by the end of the day. I feel like its huge but husband says you can barely see it. <I think that's what he is suppose to say, though.

    @mrskrb : Hello Gummy Bear!

@bla : Wow what a crazy scary experience. This is my first, I won't lie I am so nervous about it. I've witness 3 babies being born & its so magical, but knowing it'll be me on the bed this time is frightening.

Today I am feeling semi normal. I feel excited again, nervous, but excited. I've had a somewhat of an appetite the past couple of days too. I'm have been able to eat some form of protein during lunch, but by dinner I am back to crackers or chips. Still exhausted too but restless come bed time. Probably won't sleep good tonight due to nerves about my u/s tomorrow.

hope you ladies are having a good day!

@MMcAlli: I was surprised it was so early too, but I think it's because i'm AMA, hypothyroid, and have PCOS? can't wait to hear how your ultrasound goes tomorrow!

sooo DH wants to tell his family asap. He set up a dinner for tonight and I think they all know why! so now I'm trying to think of a way to do a creative announcement or otherwise surprise them even though they already suspect... any ideas?

@BLA: Yes! I had a CRAZY experience and am scared about it repeating itself. My son was 2 weeks late so they decided to induce me. Broke my water at 9AM - thick meconium. Started pitocin at 10AM. I made it until 2PM when the back labor was killing me, I got an epidural. It was immediate relief. I fell asleep for a few hours and when I woke up I was convinced I had no body. I told my husband my body was in the next room over and that I needed it back. They turned the epidural down a bit. Baby started have crazy amounts of decels and I spiked a fever. They called chorioamnionitis and a stat c-section. They cut into me and the first words out of the doctors mouth are "oh, there are lips". Baby was sunny side up - thus the back labor. He was stuck, they couldn't get him out. They had to apply a vacuum to get him out during a c-section (CRAZY) and they even had one pop-off before successfully getting him out. They get my son out and he is floppy and not breathing. APGARS of 2 (which improved to 9 at 5 minutes, thank goodness). However, I'm not paying attention to this at all because I'm screaming bloody murder while they try to get my placenta out. I had referred nerve pain to my right ulner nerve (funny bone) throughout the surgery because of an ulner trans-location surgery I had when I was 13. The anesthesia people kept saying "but we aren't touching your arm" as I screamed about my arm hurting. Then I started hemorrhaging. I lost 1.5 liters of blood. Baby went to NICU. I ended up with a blood transfusion and LOTS of antibiotics. 3 days later we were both happy and healthy and went home. So the ending was good, but it was a scary journey.

I had my ultrasound today. I am 5 weeks 2 days. There was a gestational sac that measured 5 weeks 3 days. There was a yolk sac and fetal pole but no heartbeat was visible yet. That is promising since my last pregnancy was a blighted ovum. So at least there is something growing in there! I get to go back on the 11th (I'll be 7 weeks 1 day then) and hopefully there will be a gummy bear and heartbeat.

I had not been feeling pregnant at all until 2 days ago. Now my boobs are sore and I'm super nauseous. Pregnancies 1 (miscarriage), 2 (miscarriage), and 3 (my son)- I had sore boobs and no other symptoms- it was amazing. Pregnancy 4 (blighted ovum)- super nauseous, lightheaded, ears ringing. This time- sore boobs, ears ringing, lightheaded, nauseous. Ugh!

@Dr. Pepper: Yay! That's great news!

@starlitsky: I'm sorry nobody gave you any ideas in time! How did it go?

  9. starlitsky

    clementine / 795 posts

@Mrs. Peanut: aww thank you! It went okay! We told everyone we had Halloween candy for the 4 year old nephew, and we handed out mini gummy bear packages with labels that said "aunt" "grandma" "cousin" etc, and "love, baby ___" at the bottom. I think they were expecting an announcement but not expecting it to be on candy, so there was still a small element of surprise.

@MrsKRB: yay can't wait for next Halloween!

I think we are telling my parents today!

My first appt went well. They couldn't see a heartbeat yet, but they thought the pregnancy was progressing nicely. I'll go back in two weeks to hopefully see a heartbeat!

I'm so so sick with a nasty virus right now. I feel like a sinus infection is festering, but when I saw a Dr. Today she wanted me to push through a few more days before she prescribes anything. She was nervous since I'm only @6 weeks. I'm pretty miserable and not taking any meds😝. I hope I start to feel better.

Hey! I just realized this week just ran away with me, so much to catch up on!

Glad to hear about all the scans going well! I must admit I'm a bit freaked out about the Drs that didn't want to measure the HB in first trimester... I need to find out more. It's a bit late as the HB was measured at our US.... Just wondering what the risk is.

AFM - Tuesday was really rough, vommited most of the day, Tuesday and Thursday were better but bad again since Friday. I slept most of the weekend, didn't even leave the house!

I'm 9w4d... Most of our friends and family know. I had to tell everyone at work, I needed people to know why I look ill and disappear off to the bathroom. Everyone is so happy for us as they know how long this journey has taken us.

We have our first midwife appointment on Tuesday, I'm excited to meet the team. It was tough to make a decision with out meeting them. Is anyone considering a home birth? I'm open to the option, but I live walking distance to the hospital. Intellectually it sounds wonderful but it scares me at the same time!

  20. Contemplating

    coffee bean / 33 posts

I did some digging and I think it depends in the type of machine they do the US on. If the US machine has a "M mode" then that is safe, it is not recommend to use Doppler in the first trimester.

@Contemplating: We had a home birth with our second, and we'll do it again in a heartbeat. It was such a peaceful and calm experience...which is not something I could say about our first birth. I'm here if you have questions about it! And proximity to the hospital was a huge concern for the hubs last time, but then we moved farther away by the time our son was born. He still felt confident in our choice of relatively conservative midwives and their ability to notice if something was going wrong. I will say that I felt SO secure knowing there was continuity of care; the same midwives were there with me and could see if something changed along the way. That's not something I can say about hospitals and staff changes, but my two birth experiences were very different.

Ladies, I'm here following along and rooting for all of your appts and ultrasounds and the like, I'm just awful at replying and actually engaging in the conversation.

(Am I the only one that has trouble keeping names straight? I constantly have to scroll back up and re-read...anyone?!)

Anyway. Our first u/s is tomorrow afternoon and it's with our favorite OB, so I'm excited to see what's going on in my uterus. I keep having twin dreams, so it will be nice to put that to rest finally, or you know, not. Given our previous loss I'm still not sure that I'll be able to breathe easy after seeing the heartbeat, but I'm hoping for some peace about it all. We're calling this baby Baby Sunshine and it makes me smile every time.

@Contemplating: yea, my doctor said a strong ultrasound machine is needed and it poses a slight risk.

@LittleGBee: good luck with your ultrasound!

    cherry / 154 posts

Dr.Pepper : Yay for everything looking good, try not to worry. Praying your u/s on the 11th shows you a little bean with a strong heart beat.

Starlitsky: Love the gummy bear announcement, too cute. How did telling your parents go? We have only told MIL & my mom. Was going to tell my Dad this weekend, but husband & him ended up going gambling & I didn't see him. Husband is too chicken to tell my Dad by himself. ha! We are grown adults & married, but my Dad is a very intimidating man. So I will be telling him next weekend. Not sure how yet.

Runnerd: What a precious little Monkey

Alba4: I hope you get to feeling better without the meds too.

Contemplating: Girl, I know all about looking ill at work. My work family does not know yet, but I am sure once I announce they will be like "Oh that makes sense" because I haven't been putting much effort into my looks these past couple of weeks.

    Littlegbee: Good luck today!

Ok, as for me, Doctors appointment went great Friday. Seen & heard the heart beat, 135. Technician searched for two but we only found one. Which I am totally ok with.
I measured 6w4d which I thought I was 6w5d so I was pretty close. Official due date is June 20th. I go back November 30th for another u/s. Excited bc the baby will look more like a baby instead of a tiny peanut.
Surprisingly I have been feeling pretty normal. I have spells of sickness throughout the day but nothing like it was.

Hope everyone has a good Monday!

@Alba4: glad your first appt went well!! Sorry to hear you're sick, hope you feel better soon!
@Contemplating: thanks for researching about measuring the HB. good to know it's safe if it wasn't with a Doppler.
@LittleGBee: it definitely is hard keeping up with everyone's names and situations at first, but I figure as time goes on we'll get to know each other better! Excited for your first ultrasound!!
@MMcAlli: yay for your first appt going well! Also I'm glad that you're feeling more normal and not as sick! Hope that continues! Good luck with telling your dad next weekend!

We told my parents yesterday in a much more low-key way than my in laws. We were helping out with some stuff around the house and halfway through I just said, "we have some good news!" hehe. They were happy of course but also started the advice/nagging about eating healthy, exercising, not getting my nails done anymore, etc.

My second ultrasound is tomorrow at 8w. I'm kinda nervous because I want to make sure the baby is growing on track. Last week the baby measured two days behind what I had calculated from my O date but I guess there is a margin of error of a few days this early on? I'm hoping the baby looks more like a baby this time too!

I realised yesterday I was completely lost on everyone's stories, so I went back and read the entire thread - I think I'm caught up now!
@starlitsky: Good luck with your ultrasound today! Hoping baby is growing right on track and all looks good!
@MMcAlli: Glad to hear you had a great appt on Friday and got to see your little one growing right on target! Also glad to hear the vitamins and sea bands are helping you feel much better.
@LittleGBee: Good luck with your ultrasound today too! And don't worry, you're not the only one who struggles with keeping track of names....You also have two LOs at home, right? I do too, ages 1 and 3, so I use that as my excuse!
@Contemplating: Your first appt is today! Hope it goes well! As for the home birth option - this is my third and after two amazing epidurals, I am firmly in camp epidural for this one too, so no home birth for me. I think it sounds nice though in theory, just not for my low pain threshold self.
@Alba4: Hope you're feeling better now!
@runnerd: Such a cute little monkey!!!
@catomd00: How did it go telling your in laws?
@Dr. Pepper: @BLA: wow, those are some scary birth stories! Hopefully we don't have any repeats of situations like that with our group of mommas!
@Madyetbeautiful: Glad to hear your progesterone levels rose and you can breathe a sigh of relief! Am I remembering correctly in thinking you're in England too?

As for me - I think I'm 6w3d but still have another two weeks to go before my first appt with the midwives. I'm feeling a bit unsure of how everything works here as I had my first two LOs in Australia, so the English system for antenatal care is entirely new to me! Still feeling good but have been starting to feel a bit more tired lately. I've been sleeping like a rock though so at least that much is good! Anyway, that's it for my boring update, looking forward to hearing how everyone's appts go!

@starlitsky: don't be nervous! There's a one week margin either direction. The baby is so small right now it's also hard to get an exact measurement. Good luck today!!

    pear / 1593 posts

@starlitsky: I was off my 4 days with LO #1, which would have made my BFP at 5 or 6 DPO which made no sense, but somehow it worked out and he always measured along that same track

@starlitsky: we told them on Halloween. dD was Minnie Mouse, so we got a Minnie themed shirt that said I have a secret on the front and I'm going to be a big sister on the back. We put her ears on and then she walked around until they were like what's your shirt say?! They were definitely surprised! Lol.

I've totally fallen behind on this thread! I have some reading to do.

@Contemplating: I was freaked out about the idea of a home birth and even refused when my midwife asked if I wanted to just hear about it, but ended up giving birth to DD at home because it was so miserable out and I could not imagine getting in the car to go to the hospital. It went really great.

I'm considering doing it again for this one, but I'm still not 100% committed to it. Even though I've done it before, the logistics of it still seem weird to me.

been reading along with you mamas but haven't had anything to add. Very excited for everyone's ultrasounds.

Got my OB, have an ultrasound in 1 week, need to get bloodwork more frequently this time, still no bump (10 weeks tomorrow).... but I miss my old boobs!

@starlitsky: @Mrs. Peanut: @MrsKRB: @runnerd: @MMcAlli: Thanks everyone. I was so glad to see something in the sac after our blighted ovum. I'll still be nervous until I see a heartbeat. Honestly, I'll be nervous until the day the baby is delivered and healthy in my arms.

@Ree723: Yes- No repeat scary birth stories please.

I've still been feeling nauseous mostly all day except for late evening prior to bedtime. I've been having strange cravings mostly for spicy or salty things. Today at work I went to the cafeteria 3 times for a small bowl full of pickle slices.....6 weeks today!

  33. starlitsky

@Ree723: I'm envious of your good sleep! I've still been having issues waking up in the middle of the night, although if I try to stay away from my phone I can usually fall asleep again more quickly.

@catomd00: aww that's so cute! I'm totally going to do that for #2!

@pastemoo: wow 10 weeks already! how have your boobs changed? can't wait for your ultrasound next week!

@Dr. Pepper: I totally know how you feel. I don't think my nerves/worry will ever totally go away!

@runnerd: Thank you! That's reassuring. @MrsKRB: I was measuring a little over 8w today which was a relief. I think I would have been worried if I was still in the 7w range! The NP was a little worried by something she saw on the ultrasound (she didn't know what it was so wanted a second opinion) so she referred us to a perinatologist, who luckily was able to squeeze us in same day. He used a different ultrasound machine (abdominal instead of transvaginal) and didn't see what the NP saw, thankfully!! We saw a heartbeat but they didn't measure it today, and the baby still doesn't really look like a baby haha.

Oh man! I totally missed this board!

    Location: California

EDD: This could change, but from my calculations June 11.

    How far along: 8 weeks

First child? #2. I have a 2.5 year old daughter.

First doctor appointment: UGH. Working on this. Insurance issues.

Any symptoms so far? So many more than my first pregnancy. Nausea (no actual throwing up thankfully) and so SO tired. Also extremely easily irritated.

And I am much bigger/more bloated than last time. Already wearing maternity pants!

Who have you told? I am waiting for my first ultrasound to tell a lot of people. Right now one friend, my BIL and SIL, and my dad know.

I am so excited to get to know everyone and to share updates. Right now I am just dying to get an ultrasound scheduled. I have a hard time feeling like it is "real" until I see it.
