@yellowbeach He’s beautiful! This board has extraordinarily cute newborns. Congratulations!! And well done you!

I had my 37 week appt yesterday and she said I’m at almost 3cm already (!). I don’t really feel like labor is imminent, but apparently I could be wrong. I have a little virtual sprinkle tomorrow, so that’s fun. I’m really hoping that little guy can hang out until we have family help to watch our toddler and dog. Mostly because that would let us keep our outside contacts as low as possible.

How are our other new babies doing? How’s the 3rd trimester treating everyone else?

    persimmon / 1390 posts

    @msmilkshake: 3cm, that’s great!

I’m having good and bad days and recently started to get itchy so actually put a call in to my practice today to also get tested for ICP. The itching isn’t awful but it’s definitely there, and because I’m already over 37 weeks I’d hate if something happened that could have been prevented. The last few weeks of pregnancy are definitely treating me better than pregnancy #2 though, when I had prodromal labor from 36 weeks on, so I really can’t complain too much!

I’m definitely getting antsy and so are my kids. I had decided that at 38 weeks I was going to break out the big guns (pumping and sex, the latter of which pushed me into labor last time; already doing dates, rasp leaf tea, sitting/bouncing on the birth ball, and I always walk a lot) and that’s just under a week from now and I’m counting down the days! I’m getting 2 big things for work out today and feel like I’ll really be ready after that.

Baby V and I made it home later Wednesday after her jaundice levels started to drop on their own. It was so nice to be home with her and just be more comfortable.

She had a rough night last night - awake from 1045pm until about 4:00 with small periods of sleep in between wanting lots of food. I’m wondering if it’s the start of cluster deeding for her - delayed in days from her NICU time. But over all she’s a sweet and mellow baby and makes me think that even though I’m old for having a baby - I’d love another one. Lol. Crazy thoughts probably.

Here’s a better photo of her taken right before we left the hospital.

Awwww, I'm getting so jealous of these cute baby pictures!

@Becky: I love your nursery! You are so prepped and I'm only two weeks behind you!

I'm almost at 36 weeks and still desperately wrapping up stuff at work and prepping for baby. Just got the fabric for a new slipcover for the rocker (that will be quite the project for novice sewer me), and finally bought diapers in target's latest sale. Still no good clothing/blanket storage in the baby room, hoping a trip to IKEA is in the cards this weekend.

However, I am legit proud of the 12 freezer meals I prepped this weekend by myself. Next up is baking a bazillion muffins, cookies and little banana bread loaves. Because nursing=snacking!

I am loving and jealous of these cute baby pics too! I got to spend time with my newest niece this weekend who will be 2 months tomorrow and my girls got to hold her for the first time! We see them a lot but are just starting to be less restrictive about what we do with them. I was amazed how light 10 lbs feels.

@codeitall thanks! As soon as I knew we’d be doing a bathroom reno this month I got everything finished right away. Plus the third time around I feel like I knew exactly what was important—like having burp cloths in arms reach in every room and ordering a giant new water cup with handle and straw (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TB9JB38?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image).

@Becky: Just ordered that straw cup you posted! It’s been on my to-buy list to get a good straw cup for labor and beyond for a month now and I just haven’t felt like doing the ‘’research’’ to find a good one. So I have now completely bypassed any decision making in favor of just choosing what you did 😉

I’m so jealous of all the babies! I’m 37 weeks today and feeling like it is time! I’m having more Braxton Hicks then I’ve had before and it feels vaguely productive. Last Monday I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced and I go back to the doctor in Friday. We finalized a plan this weekend where my Mom will come up about 10 days before the due date so it’s a relief to have childcare lined up for that window. I’m still kind of hoping/expecting she’ll come at 38 weeks and I’ll have to have my mom scramble to get here, but we’ll see!

We’ve officially put the baby’s bag and my bag in the car, but my bag is kind of only half packed. No toiletries, no outfit for coming home (because I’m still wearing all my maternity clothes), but I do have a hospital robe I bought, some socks, nursing bras, etc.

Hi ladies! One week +2 over here and Isla is eating and sleeping well, omg! This time, I drag the pack n play out into the family room for the day and she naps in that, drag it into our bedroom and she sleeps in it. Seems to be working better than DS who was held a lot to sleep early on and had lots of trouble falling asleep on his own. Fingers crossed this continues.
So last night I fed her at 4am, went to the bathroom, and then developed the worst cramps I’ve ever experienced: back and front, couldn’t sit, couldn’t stand up, could barely walk to get the heating pad. Had to wake DH when isla wanted to nurse again. Advil barely made a dent, hearing pad helped, DS massaging my lower back helped the most. I’ve never had post partum cramping like this. Called the nurse and she said it’s normal. Anyone have this kind of intense cramping? It was easily as bad as labor...

  18. Becky

    persimmon / 1390 posts

@BUNBUN: So sweet! I hope for you she continues sleeping well. My SIL was/is really good about putting my nieces down for a nap in the middle of a busy room (they’re both spring babies so we were at a lake house a lot while they were little). They’re great nappers!

I had awful uterine cramping while nursing after DD2 but it was right after birth and then continued. Apparently it’s worse with subsequent births. Honestly I’d keep an eye on it if it’s new cramping, esp. if accompanied by increased bleeding and/or a smell in case it’s retained placenta.

  19. BUNBUN

    apricot / 430 posts

@Becky: thank you! That was my concern as well. I’m definitely going to pay attention and watch for fever or an increase in bleeding.

Eek possibly in labor? Some lower back and stomach pain started this morning when I woke up and has been coming and going. It’s not what I experienced with either of my first 2 labors, I can’t definitively say when contractions begin and end as they are more fading in and out. Trying not to get too worked up about it! I’m 37+ 3 today. 😳

@JCCovi: So exciting! Keep us posted!

I have my 38 week appointment tomorrow at 38+2. I’ve really been struggling mentally/emotionally this week. It came out of left field. I started on Lexapro just a few weeks before I got pregnant so I’m reaching out to my primary about getting my dosage increased a few weeks after I have the baby. It was something I had considered but now that I’m suddenly struggling I want to be proactive. I really didn’t plan to even get cervical checks, but I’m going to request a check and, if I’m favorable, a sweep tomorrow because I am just so done. I’m just glad I can recognize what’s going on though!

So yesterday’s back contractions lasted all morning and I just had a few irregular contractions in the afternoon. Tonight, however, they’ve settled into real contractions but aren’t particularly close together. Close enough I think it’s probably the real thing though? But not close enough that it’s go time. We are an hour from the hospital though so I’m agonizing over when we should leave. Oh and baby also dropped tonight and it’s kind of distracting how different her feet feel now that she’s a bit lower!

I have a 10:30 doctors appointment in the morning and at this rate I think I’ll make it. Also, with a third baby I kind of expected to be more confident about what I was feeling and when but I’m not. 😋

  23. Becky

    persimmon / 1390 posts

@JCCovi: Sounds like it could be the real thing! I have been confounded by just how different my 3 pregnancies have been. DD1 was just super smooth sailing and ended in an induction, DD2 I had prodromal labor for almost 4 weeks (😭 but still least I knew my body was doing something!), and this one is crickets in terms of feeling like things are moving along. What ended up being the “early labor” phase with DD2 for me sounds similar to what you are going through: contractions the entire day, but not strong or regular enough to think I was in labor. Even right before I went into the hospital they were as far as 13 minutes apart and I only had 2 on the 16 minute car ride. She was born less than 2.5 hours after getting to the hospital though—it was just intuition feeling like I should go in!

No stretch/strip/sweep at my appointment today. If I want one next week (39 weeks, Wednesday) I can get one.

  25. JCCovi

    kiwi / 705 posts

@Becky: My contractions stopped around 5 this morning and it’s been a pretty normal day. My doctor was willing to strip my membranes today but for some reason the cervix check really hurt and she ended up not getting the check or doing the strip. I’m wondering if she has very small hands and so a lot of fist was involved? It hurt a lot last week when she checked but this week I just couldn’t stay still for it. She said I’m at least 2 cm and 70% effaced though. Next appointment is the 22nd and she doesn’t think I’ll make it that long. 🤞

@becky Maybe it’s a due date twin thing, but the last little while has been not great from a mental health standpoint here too. I increased my therapy sessions so that is good.
@jccovi I keep getting informed that my cervix is “way back there” and the checks have been extra unpleasant for sure!

My appointment on Thursday was good except that my first blood pressure reading was a little high (it came down basically immediately) so now I have an appointment tomorrow and if my bp were high again that would mean an induction so I’ll be taking lots of deep breaths haha. Just trying to keep this little guy chilling until auntie arrives on Wednesday or Thursday.

Also yay to all of these baby pictures and nurseries! The cuteness brings me joy!

They’re right about the third being a wild card—my water broke! I had a feeling it might be coming up just because I had some extra Braxton Hicks even though I know that’s not a sign. I made a quadruple batch of muffins this morning and for dinner made salmon I kept putting off cooking because I didn’t feel like it, but was weirdly convinced I wouldn’t go into labor before eating it. My water has never broken before I’ve been in labor so I feel like I’ll have to get induced but I’m surprisingly calm. Cleaning like a madwoman because our house is a disaster!

  28. JCCovi

@Becky: So exciting! My water hasn’t broken before labor either but I had a dream last night that it would with this baby.

Yes, this third time around seems to have nothing to do with my previous 2! I’m having a lot of false labor and last night I passed my mucus plug which I never noticed doing before. It was not at all what I expected because I actually could feel it sliding out for a couple hours. The false labor means every night I go to sleep convinced it’s the night...

  29. Becky

    persimmon / 1390 posts

Still no labor so it looks like I’m facing an induction. When I do have contractions they’re all in my back so looks like I’ll get an epidural anyway so really not too bummed. Headed to Home Depot, short walk at the park across from the hospital, and then we’ll check in. Can you tell I’m trying to put off an induction as long as possible 😂

Jack Emerson arrived at 4:28pm today—pics to come! My water broke at 6:45pm last night, 38+5 weeks pregnant. I had inconsistent early labor contractions all night so didn’t really sleep until they stopped around 5am. Because contractions stopped I figured we should go in to get induced, so we left at 8am (and stopped at Home Depot so DH can finish his house projects this weekend as planned!). When we got there I got the COVID swab (not fun) and they started Pitocin at 10:20am—but they let it be my decision to start. I’d say painful contractions that I had to vocalize started around 12pm. He was indeed sunny side up and it was all back labor plus the intense pit contractions. I got in the tub around then which was a huge relief, but knew I needed an epidural. Got out at just the right time—I was 6cm. Got a great epidural so I could still feel pressure. Started pushing around 3:30pm and we did lots of switching sides while using the birth ball to get him in a better position and it worked! We almost had a shoulder distocia but he came out my smallest yet at 7 lbs 11 oz plus DH got to catch him. No tearing (lots of guided pushing to prevent it), and the placenta came out within 10 minutes really well. Definitely a positive induction experience!

Tomorrow I turn 42. Is it crazy I can’t decide on birth control since part of me is somehow contemplating one more (already, I know)... and unrealistic given what it took to get #2... but look at these angels - c’mon! Who wouldn’t want one more...

@Becky: congratulations! Love the name, I have a 5 year old Emerson Jack

Congratulations to all the new babies! I’ve been following along and it’s so exciting every time one is born.

I haven’t posted since the first trimester but my last post I was worried about finding out the sex and being nervous about possibly a girl after 3 boys, so naturally this baby is a girl! It took me a while to believe/wrap my head around it but now we are so excited to be adding a little lady to the family!

Two third trimester ultrasounds have shown a possible bowel obstruction but there is nothing to be done now other than wait for her to be born and they will evaluate her right after to see if she needs surgery. We’re just trying to prepare the best we can for the possibility of that and a longer hospital stay. I’m currently scheduled to be induced July 20th because I’m on blood thinners, so at most I only have a month from Saturday left! Is there anyone else due in July?

@yellowbeach: I read your post and thought - I’m in the same boat. I turned 42 in December and had some many losses to get to our healthy baby V. And yet, snuggling with her - I think I want another one before we are done. It’s probably not realistic but I feel it in my heart.
