@QueensBee: That is so awesome that you worked out. Must of felt so nice. Good to hear Pete made it through a busy day.
@Arden: Congrats on 8 hours! That must of been so nice for everyone. I'm still lightly bleeding off and on and hoping it stops for good soon.
Last night was a better night. Made it through bath time on my own, I was nervous about that. Then Isaac had a for hour stretch of sleep, which I slept for three of. It is just hard getting up this early. Usually DH takes him from when he wakes up around 6 until he goes to work so I can sleep.

@QueensBee: Wow! Your workout sounds fantastic! I actually went to try and put my gym membership on pause because I haven't gone since waaay in the beginning of pregnancy. And now, would haveeven less chance to go workout. DH already works so late, I don't want to really give up my weekend time to split baby watching for working out. And maybe that's why my tummy is so squishy! lol! Sorry to hear neither of the houses panned out.
7-9pm must be Pete's "witching hours!" I nearly thought we were going to escape K's witching hours last night, but nope - she just started later than usual! I can't wait for that phase to end. Glad you were able to hang out at the party pretty easily!
@Arden: Wow! Vi sounds like a phenomenal sleeper for 4 weeks!!! Glad you are getting such long stretches already! Our 4 week growth spurt was hellish for me. As for the bleeding, I seriously never thought it would end. Even the day before my 6 week check up, I had just been having discharge for days and thought it was almost coming to an end, and then a day where it was like I had a period. I would say it totally ended though by 7 weeks pp, but I still wear a light pantyliner just in case.
So last night was kind of rough for us. K started cluster-feeding every 1 to 1.5 hours from after 7pm till almost Midnight! Our longest stretch in between feedings was just over 4 hours, which is short compared to the days before. Of course, she chose Saturday to be the most awake, when I had been optimistic that DH and I could DTD after she went down for the night. I even had a large glass of wine with our dinner, thinking it would be nice to unwind and couldn't hurt if it made K a tiny bit sleepier. Nope! This girl seemed to be even more awake for it! Meanwhile, since it's only the 2nd time I've had wine (1st was last weekend) since being pregnant, my tolerance must be at an all-time low. I was SO SLEEPY by her last cluster-feed, I nodded off on the sofa while DH was burping K. I don't know how long it took him to get her to sleep, but I know he was SUPER exhausted when I got into the bedroom. After our MOTN feeding (around 4 am), I was just about to put her back down when I heard a loud pop and all this crazy noise! DH was totally passed out, but I woke him up just in time to find water flooding out of our master bathroom into our room (hardwood floors)! Needless to say, I had to put K down quick and we had to do damage control ASAP! I guess the tubing under the toilet burst. Did a load of laundry for all the towels we used and still have to do the floor mats.
A couple hours later and Miss K was up again! She fell asleep at the boob, as did I. I was fine sleeping like that, but she woke up hungry again within 20 min. And now, she's up again... gotta go! Wondering if this is the 8 Week Wonder Week!

OK... seems she just wanted to be held a bit and fell backasleep. I just put her out in the swing to hang out with me. Doesn't seem like I'll be falling back asleep this morning.
Went and found Mrs. High Heels post on Wonder Weeks from Feb PP boards in case anyone else here wanted to have a heads-up!
WONDER WEEK 8: The World of Patterns
sometime between 7 and 9 weeks of age, your baby may becme more demanding. she may cry more often, as this is ger way of expressing how stressful these changes are to her. at this age, crying is the most effective way to show she feels lost and needs attention.
clues that this leap is approaching:
- may demand more attention
- may become shy with strangers
- may lose her appetite
- may cling to you more tightly
- may sleep poorly
- may just cry and cry
the leap forward:
- your baby no longer experiences the world and himself as one universe.
- will start to recognize recurring shapes, patterns, and structures (i.e. he discovers his hands belong to him and will wave them around and look at them in wonder).
- begins to distinguish patterns in sounds, smells, tastes, and textures.
- many of the reflexes your baby had at birth will start to disappear at this age. voluntary movements start emerging.
after the leap:
- around 10 weeks another period of comparative ease sets in. (YAY!)
- baby no longer requires as much attn as he did in the past.
- more independent
- interested in his surroundings
- his need to be with you constantly may also diminish at this time. mothers feel ok putting their babies in playpens on their own, etc.
- may become so cheerful and so busy amusing himself that life is much easier for you.
Next Leap will be Wonder Week 12. There is also a Wonder Week 5 - let me know if you're interested in some cliff notes on that one... I skipped it bc it seems most of our feb babies are older than that now.
I definitely feel like we have reached/are at every single point on the "after the leap". She has definitely found her hands for soothing, batting objects, and grasping things. Last night, she was totally cracking herself up in her swing looking at the mobile, while we were eating dinner.
I think just the toughest part we're dealing with right now are the witching hours.

@ALV91711: How long has the growth spurt been going on? Hopefully it's coming to an end soon!
@Arden: Oh my gosh, I can't believe how much Vi is sleeping!!! Xander JUST started sleeping 5-6 hour stretches (he's done it four times now) and he's going to be 10 weeks on Tuesday. I'm jealous Vi is starting so much earlier!
My bleeding lasted 5 weeks, though the last weeks were just light spotting. Sorry to hear that yours is still going on - hopefully it'll stop soon!

@Adira: I think the reason her sleep is so good is because we co-sleep - if I had her in a crib I doubt she'd sleep very long at all. I can't test that theory though because we don't even have a crib.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Arden: That is great V is sleeping a long stretch already. My bleeding stopped by week 4.
@shopaholic: Thanks for the wonder week info. I am not looking forward to it this week, especially since DH is leaving tomorrow till Thursday afternoon.
So this weekend went much better then expected. R was a rock star today in the car. I sat in the back with her, and she pretty much slept the whole time. She would wake up sort of and I could just rub her cheek and she would fall back asleep. She only cried when we put her back in the seat after after stopping to feed her and us get lunch. Rolled the window down a bit and she fell right asleep. She slept a 5 hour stretch both nights. My ILs drove me crazy like always but not as bad as other times. Haha!
So I went to the bathroom at lunch and I had some bleeding. I was like what the hell, I thought breast feeding keeps your period away. Luckily I had a tampon in the glove box for emergencies. But then it was practically clean when I took it out and I haven't had anything since. So not sure it is my period. We had sex for the first time Tuesday, and I didn't bleed then. We haven't had sex again cause DH doesn't like too at his Dads house. So not sure what it was. But sex wasn't bad at all! Didn't hurt at all.
DH leaves tomorrow till Thursday afternoon. I am nervous.
R has a little cyst on her nipple, looks like a whitehead zit, since birth. At her one month appointment the pediatrician suggested going to see someone to get it taken off since it hasn't gotten better. So we go in the morning. Wonder what they are going to do to take it off. Kind of hope they don't do anything tomorrow so DH can be there too. Cause I am going to freak out.

@Smurfette: glad you had a good weekend! Hope things go well at the appt tomorrow
@Arden: I think Andy would like cosleeping - he seems to be a snuggler - but I can't relax when he sleeps with us. I feel like he's going to suffocate on my boobs!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@aprk: Haha, well my boobs aren't big enough to smother her, I don't think. We sleep with no blankets or covers in the bed, and she sleeps in between us, so she can't roll off or get smothered. She pretty much stays put on her back in between us all night, I roll towards her when she stirs and nurse and then roll back.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Arden: the easy nursing is definitely a bonus! I think our bed must be too soft, or he likes to roll too much because he gets himself on his side with his face right next to me. Ok for naps, in the daytime where I can see what's going on ...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Arden: props to y'all! I could never sleep with out covers. And we both move too much in our sleep to have her in bed with us. If we do, she sleeps on our chests. I think R will be a tummy sleeper when she can roll over.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: my husband would love Andy to sleep on his chest, but dude is just not feelin it.

@Adira: Congrats on 6 hours!! That is phenomenal! We have the same frames, but I haven't managed to do the prints yet. Yours turned out great!

@Arden: 8 hours??? Holy cow. That's crazy awesome. I can't even imagine. We had one night of five hours that was amazing . . . And has never been repeated again.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Just got back from the doctor. He said to leave her cyst as is. If he would remove it now, it would totally distort her nipple. So if we wait till she is older, the nipple will be bigger and less chance of distortion. Just have to watch that it doesn't get infected.
Someone slept 6 hours last night! Woo hoo!!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Smurfette: yay for R!
We've had another rough night over here again. She keeps crying out and waking herself up when she's asleep. Even swaddled. Definitely she's growing and DH thinks they are growing pains. I'm back to holding her for sleep, even just so she can get a little nap. I'm so tired.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: It's a bummer you can't just get it removed now so that you don't have to deal with it anymore. Oh well. And that's awesome how much R slept last night!!
@shopaholic: Awww, sorry about the rough night! Hopefully K will go back to being able to sleep without being held soon and you're able to get some sleep again!
Xander slept SEVEN hours last night! It was AMAZING! I suspect it's because he didn't really nap during the day. We went to a BBQ at a friend's house and instead of two 1-2 hour naps, he only got two 30 minute naps. So I suspect he was TIRED. Now that we're back at home and he's napping well, I'm curious to see what happens tonight.
Xander starts daycare in two weeks... *cries*
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@shopaholic: I am sorry! Hopefully she is back to sleeping good tonight.
@Adira: That is awesome! I told DH that is what I want for Mother's Day! 7 hours. If we could put R down when she first falls asleep, we would get more sleep. But we will tackle that soon. Right now I will take 6 hours.
I was just thinking I can't believe in four weeks, I will be at work and she will be in day care. So sad!
If she does good with sleep this week, going to put her in the crib this weekend. She makes too much noises at night that wake me up. I think she is about to cry but she is just talking in her sleep.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
I wish I could boast six hours but after two very rough nights - both in terms of sleeping and crying - I'll take my nearly six hours I say nearly because she went to bed at ten and woke at one but I coaxed her back to sleep with a pacifier, some white noise, and her cradle rocking. Next peep came at four when she took a bottle and went back to sleep til nearly seven. So far today we've had two really good naps and we're back to taking Tommee Tippee bottles! Success!
Henry scared me this past week and weekend. He's been fluctuating between one to three naps a day. I was scared we'd transitioned to just one nap a day but today we're back on schedule. Don't know what I would do if they started tag teaming nap time instead of sleeping at the same time! The horror!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: We still haven't put Xander in his crib yet, but we need to!! He'll be sleeping in a crib at daycare, so I need to make sure he's okay with that. Plus he's only allowed to sleep in our bassinet until he's 3 months, which will be soon enough, so we need to hurry up and make the transition to the crib! Plus I wonder if we'll both sleep better if we can't hear each other, haha.
@NaturallyCathy: Glad to hear you had some success with sleeping!! Sometimes Xander will wake up and he's not really hungry and will fall back to sleep with some coaxing. And that's awesome that she's taking bottles! Yay!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Adira: You can only keep him in the bassinet until three months of age? That's news to me! With H, I switched him to the cradle around month two but still used the bassinet as a napping spot until he got his own room and a crib at six months. Then both bassinet and cradle went into storage. Em has a similar set up. Cradle in our room, bassinet in my office. She doesn't even have a crib yet!

I'm so jealous of everyone who's babies sleep long stretches. Two nights ago he went for 4 hours between feedings and I got three hours. Last night was a horror story. He was good, but decided that sleeping was not in the cards. He fell asleep around 10:15, and just as I was falling asleep around 11 he decided was a good time to be hungry. We did not have a stretch longer than 2 hours between feedings last night. And it didn't seem like he slept any more during the day yesterday. I wonder if it has anything to do with the change in weather? It got hot here yesterday.
@shopaholic: Thanks for the wonder week info.
@Adira: It has been about 3 days now, I'm hoping that he slows down and sleeps more at night now. I guess we will see how tonight goes.
@Smurfette: Glad to hear that your weekend went good. I hope that your time with DH away goes well and that R is well behaved.
@Arden: DH brings Isaac into bed to co-sleep with us in the hour or so before he leaves for work. Isaac always seems to wake up and just want a cuddle and will stay asleep longer if he comes to our bed. Well, since DH has been away he will have none of laying in bed with me. It sucks.
@NaturallyCathy: Glad you got your nap schedule back.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@NaturallyCathy: It probably depends on the bassinet, but ours specifically says to only let the baby use it while less than 15 lbs and under three months. And I can tell he's definitely getting too big for it, haha.
@ALV91711: I've read that growth spurts usually only last about three days or so, so hopefully you're getting to the end of it!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@NaturallyCathy: Glad she is back to taking the bottles. And the naps are back on schedule. They don't need to team up on you.
@ALV91711: This long sleeping is new to us. Only been week but we still have bad nights. I think the cluster feeding at night is really helping. Weather could part of it for sure.
pomelo / 5621 posts
Last night was such a better night for Isaac, for me, not so much. He seems to be going back to longer time between feeds, hopefully I didn't just jinx that. It was so warm last night that I got up to check on him a bunch of times. He even slept soundly unswaddled. Usually without a swaddle he wakes himself up. I'm wondering if having the fan going had something to do with good sleep.
Yesterday was so warm we stayed at home all day. This morning is much cooler, so when he wakes up from his nap we are going to go do some errands.
Target opened here today, so we are going to check it out.
Isaac is growing like a weed and we started size 2 diapers this week. Now I have to take back the unopened size 1's and get more 2's.
bananas / 9973 posts
@ALV91711: Yay for a good night! I know how you feel about potentially jinxing anything. I don't even want to say when we have a good day anymore! lol! Ah! I can't wait till K can sleep nicely without a swaddle. She hates being swaddled, though getting a lot better with it. But can't stay asleep very long without the swaddle! Yay for a Target! I'm there all the time, if only to walk around with K! Wow! size 2's! Good growing Issac!
Well, last night was better, but I can't say we're sticking to a routine. We escaped the witching hours fits she'd been having - I think maybe because she slept a lot (for her)during the day. I know she seems to not get enough sleep in the day usually - but she's such a catnapper. Yesterday we got in a few 30 min. and 1 hour naps! The one hour naps were in the stroller and in the Ergo, but she would not stay asleep in her crib at all.
Maintained her normal bath/bedtime routine, but still couldn't get her to stay asleep in her crib. She ended up sleeping in her swing until almost ~5 am, which was just over 7 hours from her last feeding! We actually were able to watch the 2 hour Amazing Race finale on our DVR!
So Friday we went to the mall to escape from the heat (97 degrees!) and yesterday & today it is cold, wet, and raining on/off. We actually just walked to the plaza across the street yesterday (how she slept in the Ergo), and it suddenly started pouring rain while we were walking back! Her Ergo hood got soaked. Thankfully I had put a cap on her underneath. My coat was soaked. Ugh. We are going to escape to the mall again this afternoon. I need to walk around with her somewhere just for her to get decent naps. I'm ready for some temperate weather!

Isaac is growing like a weed. We went to the pediatrician today and he is 13lbs 5oz and 23 inches long. That is 4lbs exactly since birth and he will be 7 weeks tomorrow. She said he is doing good, he has a bit of a hernia under his belly button and that should go away on its own.
Then I had to go get bloodwork after and Isaac started to freak while we were waiting. One of the ladies let me have an exam room so I could change and feed him, then he was back to his happy self.

We have had roughy nights the last three nights. So glad that DH is on his way home now. Not sure if it is the wonder week but she is wide awake in the middle of the night. Or maybe she was just missing her Daddy. I am so tired! We went for a long walk this morning, and the fresh air helped.
How often is everyone's LO eating? R usually still eats every two hours unless she is asleep then will go three. I don't know how to get her to space them more. She just won't eat a lot at one time.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Yay for DH's coming home! Mine got home today. Isaac is every 2-3 hours but more towards 2 hours in the day. He sometimes does 3.5-4.5 in his first stretch at night, but not consistently. I wish he would go longer, especially at night. How did it go on your own?
I finally started pumping yesterday, although because someone decided not to stay asleep I only have 3oz in two pumping sessions. I want DH to start feeding him this weekend and then I can keep pumping. I don't want to build a big stash, but to be able to not have to feed him every time would be nice, or to get some extra sleep sometimes. Lets hope he takes a bottle.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
Emma weighs 12 pounds, 2 ounces and is 22 inches long. She just had her 2 month appointment yesterday. She's definitely sleeping more today after her shots but is otherwise healthy and happy. We did get confirmation that she does have thrush and there's some speculation on whether she has GERD but since it's not affecting her weight gain, they aren't going to do anything about it. So I have medicine for the thrush - nystatin - for both her and for me.
In other news, I have a week coming up in June where DH will be in Pennsylvania. Which means I get to fend for myself with both kids. Not something I'm looking forward to so I've already contacted a friend of mine. She was considering living with us for a few months anyways - our suggestion for her situation (long story) - so this is going to be a test run of sorts to see if it'll be something everyone can do or if it's just too much. If it's too much, she finds other living arrangements come end of June. Otherwise, she moves in with us for an undetermined length of time - probably till she marries her fiance.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: did he take a bottle? We battle with this.
@NaturallyCathy: sorry about the thrush! Why do they think she she GERD? Glad you have helped lined up for when DH is gone. One was hard for me, can't imagine two!
R slept hours last night, maybe she just missed her Daddy! I met my Mom for lunch today, R had a melt down so we took turns eating. Then went back to her office and used the pumping room to feed her. Much nicer then in the car. She feel asleep at 430 and I I swaddled her at 7 to wake her up. I hope she sleeps tonight!
I am going in the morning for a Mothers Day manicure and pedicure. Then we are going to Costco for size 2 diapers. She is two month tomorrow and getting so big.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day!!!

@Smurfette: No, he wouldn't take a bottle last night. I'm glad we tried with just an ounce. We will try again tonight as I would really like him to learn to take it. He won't take a soother either though, so it may take some time.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: It is hard to get R to take one too. She just took 3 ozs of formula. I am no wasting any more breastmilk till she takes it regular. But I have to hide in the other room with the door shut. A friend said it helped when her husband would put her shirt over his chest so she smelled mom. What bottle are you using? Could be a bottle thing, find one that is like your nipple. R took Advent but now seems to like Tommee better.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: We have Avent bottles, when I go shopping next week I'll look at others. I told my DH what you said about using formula and he thinks that is a good idea. I think this week I'm going to work on the soother, we have a couple different ones to try. I don't really care if he takes one, except we have a couple flights this summer and it would be nice if he took one for those.
Last night was great for sleep. He only got up twice! I hope this continues.
Happy Mothers Day to all you ladies !
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: If you get him to take a pacifier, let me know how. She won't take one and have tried about 6 different kinds. Glad you had a good night of sleep!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: He took 1oz of BM from a Nuk bottle when DH gave it to him at lunch. We only put 2oz in the bottle as not to waste a bunch. I have an Avent soother and he wasn't disgusted by it, but he wouldn't suck on it either.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
Yeah, Em's giving me a wonderful present right now - wakefulness. For the first time in at least a month and a half, bahy girl is up for absolutely no reason. Not interested in eating, from bottle or breast. Not interested in the pacifier. Not cranky or crying, just hanging out and very awake, very aware.
So I'm starting Mother's day with her in the swing and me curled up in the guest bed. Sigh...

@Adira: can you believe we are celebrating as moms this year?! It still feels sort of surreal to me
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I am sorry! I had three nights of that this past week when DH was out of town. R thought 220-530 was play time, even though she was yawning, would not go to sleep.
@Adira: @aprk: so crazy, that we are on the other side this year!
Reagan gave me the best Mothers Day gift, she slept from 930-520!!! Of course I woke up plenty cause my boobs were so engorged. And I got her as soon as she made a noise. Of course she ate one side and fell back asleep. So I need to hand express some on the other before I can go back to sleep.
