@Smurfette: Do you have a chair or anything that you can use in her nursery to nurse her to sleep? I used to keep my rocking chair in the living room so I could nurse Xander and watch TV (haha, am I a bad mom?) but since we moved him into his room, I moved the rocking chair in there as well so I can nurse him there instead.
Xander doesn't nap well in the evening either. I think a lot of babies are like that though, which can be rough. Maybe you can try what I do and put her down earlier for bed and then wake her up to eat, hopefully before she normally would wake herself up. Maybe you could feed her at 7:30 and then 9:30 or something? I don't really know... I just know what works with Xander, but who knows if it would work for R.

@Adira: yeah we have a glider in her room. I use for her middle of the night feedings. I still use the living room for getting her to sleep since we have to hold her so long before we can put her down. My little angel isn't awesome like Xander and will go to sleep on her own. But we need to start working on it. I will try earlier bedtime this weekend and see how she does. Probably not tonight cause DH lands at 6, and by the time he gets through customs will be 8 before he gets home. I know he will want too see her before bed.

A is throwing a nap strike today. Eyes wide open since 8 am. Not cool, dude.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Yeah, I guess if you have to hold her for so long to get her to sleep, I wouldn't want to be stuck in the nursery either, so I don't blame you! I know that R will eventually learn to fall asleep on her own and she may still be too young for it. I think people generally don't start sleep training until 4 months, right?
@aprk: Is he being fussy at all? Or is he totally content to just be wide awake forever? I guess if he's content, let him not nap? Otherwise... I have no advice. Sorry you have to deal with that.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: Have you put him in the car and see if he will fall asleep that way? Wear him?
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: he was just hanging out, talking to himself. Problem is, I need a nap!
@Smurfette: I was just considering wearing him but too exhausted to bounce around.
I ended up just putting him in his bassinet next to me and I passed out on the bed. Oops. I woke up and nursed him and it looks like he's finally asleep.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Hey, I would've done the same thing! I think it's okay to sleep while they are awake - they'll wake you if they need/want something! Glad to hear he's FINALLY napping though! Maybe you can go back to yours now!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Adira: ok hes waking up every 5 minutes to look around and make sure he's not missing anything. OY. I fear for sleep tonight!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: LOL! Is he crying/being fussy? Or just waking up and looking around? If he's not fussy, try not to worry about it! And I'm sure he'll EVENTUALLY sleep, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: R does that just about every evening for her late nap. She can't keep her eyes open but won't go to sleep. Sleep is always a battle in our house. So ready for her to grow out of it!

Wow, seems like lots has happened in the last couple days while I was traveling.
We finally arrived at my mom's yesterday afternoon, it was so great to not have to get in a car this morning. I think Isaac is pretty happy about this too. By the end he was screaming every time I put him back in his car seat and if he woke up in his car seat. Now to relax for a couple days before we do anything.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Glad to hear you finally made it!!! How long was the trip total? I'm not surprised Isaac was getting sick of the car seat! You were probably sick of being in the car! At least you made it there safe and sound. How long are you there for, again? A few weeks, right?
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Adira: We traveled about 20 hours, that was stopping after every two hours of driving to feed Isaac and take him out of the car. We did it over three days, but the first day we were traveling for 12 hours. We are here about 3.5 weeks and then have a 2 week vacation with DH and then we will be here for about the same time again before heading home.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Wow!!! That's an impressive car ride!!! At least you're finally there and get to actually STAY for a while! Good for you!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Glad you made it safe. I would hate the car seat too after that long. I hate long road trips. Have fun at your Moms!!!
I just spent 30 mins getting R to sleep, she woke up 10 mins later. 10 more mins to get her back to sleep. I hope she stays asleep longer this time.

@Smurfette: ah, good luck. I feel your pain. I gave up and just put A in the carrier
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@aprk: yeah I had her on the Ktan for her nap earlier and I usually have too again for any chance of a late afternoon nap. I can't wait till she can go to sleep on her own. This is getting old.
Is that the Ergo?? Do you like it? I think we are going to get that so DH can wear her. Does A like it?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@aprk: Gahhh!!! A is so cute!!!!!
@Smurfette: We have the Ergo and I like it and Xander likes it too, though we have gotten pretty toasty snuggled up together like that. I haven't used it a ton, but the few times I did, Xander would just take a nap in it or just relax while I walked around.

I just want the record to reflect that acid reflux is the devil. The end.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: That is what I am afraid of DH is so got natured. He tried a friends on with her 11 month old and he liked it. But it was only for like 5 mins. It gets so hot here in the summer. I wonder if there is a more breathable one.
@Mrs. Blue: I hear ya!! R has been spitting up so much the last two days. Earlier I had her almost asleep and she spit up and then I had to start all over. She apparently got a lady really good while at day care the other day too. oops!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: It worked really well for us (New England) because it was Spring when Xander was born and still fairly cool out, so when we went for walks, I knew my body heat would keep him warm. But now that it's almost summer, I'm not sure I want to use it because I think it might be too hot!
@Mrs. Blue: Awww, sorry you have to deal with that! I agree that it sucks!
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: it's a MeiTai style carrier. No buckles so it's much softer and cozier than something like the Ergo. A loves it. He falls asleep almost immediately and it's comfy enough to walk around for a while. I think any babywearing is hot in the summer, especially in the south. I just suck it up ...
@Adira: thanks

This just isn't my week. I have a clogged duct and I can't get rid of it. Need to get the heating pad. The last time I had one just nursing and massaging it got it out.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Smurfette: What does R take for her acid reflux? Both boys have been on Zantac, but they just switched Ffrom Zantac to Prevacid. It has been a holy nightmare waiting for the Prevacid to kick in. It better be A-MAZ-ING when it does start working.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Zantac, well the generic version. A friend's daughter had it really bad too. Zantac didn't work so they went with Prevacid and she said it worked great! Hope the boys and you get relief soon.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@Smurfette: ugh. Sorry about the clogged duct. I'm terrified of them! Hope it goes away soon
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Gahh, sorry to hear about the clogged duct! I'm always so scared of those! Is it painful? I hear they're painful.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: it isn't horrible cause it isn't huge but it isn't pleasant!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: What does it feel like? How do you know it's a clogged duct? Or is it obvious? Like if I have one, I'll definitely know?
Oh my gosh ladies, Xander's in bed and I MISS him. I can't wait to wake him up at 9:00 to nurse! Am I crazy?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: this is maybe the size of an almond, and it is just hard. What you would think a lump in your breast would feel like. You finish feeding and that one part is still engorged. You can't miss it!
You aren't crazy! I think it is sweet!
I am so jealous of your sleeper!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Thank you for the description! That's good to know!! Although hopefully I won't experience it, haha.
I know it's good that he's such a good sleeper, but sometimes I wish I HAD to rock him or hold him to get him to sleep. I want to snuggle my baby but he wants to just be put down and left alone!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: We should trade for one weekend. I get easy baby and you get snuggly/ wants to be held baby
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Haha, we totally should! Although I suspect I would have no idea how to soothe R since I haven't been practicing my "calm the baby" tactics lately. And you would probably find Xander boring since he doesn't require a lot of attention.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: So much for an early bedtime tonight. It is 9 and she is awake. DH is trying to get her to sleep.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Well of course she isn't going to do what you want!! I hope your husband has good luck getting her to sleep.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
OMG, we have been trying to get her to sleep for 2 hours and she still isn't asleep. Her eyes are closed but is still crying. I just gave her back to DH. Now she is crying harder. This is so exhausting!!! Why does it have to be a battle every single night?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: What!?! I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm assuming you eventually got her to sleep? Do you do the 5 S's? What about white noise? I wish I had some advice!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah we do the 5 S'a, white noise . I am not sure what was up. DH put her in the crib and just left her for a break. Wasn't even 10 mins and the crying just got louder and more intense. She spit up all over me when we picked her up. It didn't take her long then to finally go to sleep. But almost 2 1/2 hours. Crazy town!!
I still have a clogged duct. This blows. I need to nurse to get it out but we need to work on bottles today.
Sorry you are sick. When I had a cold it did sick getting up to nurse when all you want to do is sleep. Or take care of a baby all day. To bad parenting doesn't have sick time!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I wonder if she had reflux or something and that's why she only fell asleep AFTER she spitup. I know when Xander needs to burp (or spit up) he screams bloody murder if we try to lay him down. He has to stay in an upright position until he gets it out. Maybe that is what wad wrong with R?
Maybe you could nurse her at least once to hopefylly get youlogged duct out and then do bottles the rest of the day.
I was hoping my husband would be on baby duty so I can sleep, b I think he's sick too. So now I have two babies to take care of.
