    @aprk: poor thing!
@Smurfette: That's great that R did well at daycare!

@aprk: How did A do last night?

R was so tired last night. She was asleep by 8:40, and I put her down at 9:00. I had an hour to myself, haven't had that in forever. I woke up at 5:15, to shower and actually do my hair today. I was just about to wake her up when she woke up at 6:20. She was still sleepy and didn't eat much. My left boob still feels engorged. I can't wait till 9 when I pump for the first time.

Gahh, this is the cold that just won't end!! I think I'm dying. I feel like if I could just get some sleep, I would feel better, bt I keep waking up every hour and the after I fed Xander and pumped at 4:00, I couldn't fall back asleep. And now Xander's up so I can't even try to get some rest.

@Smurfette: he did pretty well. I gave him some Tylenol around 7 and that helped a lot. I think his poor little legs were sore. He took a late nap, and finally went down for the night at 10:30 and woke up at 5:30. So, a nice stretch. Thanks for checking in glad you got some time to yourself. Daycare must be exhausting for R with all the new scenery. Hope today goes well!

@Adira: yuck are you staying home again today?

@Adira: I am sorry!! Just try and sleep every time Xander naps today. Don't worry about doing anything else.

@aprk: Glad he is feeling better and you got a good stretch of sleep. I think she was so tired cause she only had one good nap, 1 1/2 hours, in the morning yesterday. Then just two 20-30 min ones. She has to get use to sleeping on her own and the noise of the room. Hopefully today will be better.

@Smurfette: Glad to hear that R did well at daycare yesterday! How was your evening with her? Did you get in as many cuddles as you could? Were you able to pump as much as she drank?

@aprk: Yes, I am staying home again. I honestly don't feel like I'm getting any better. Hubs is also home sick again today, though I get the impression he isn't nearly as bad as I am!

@aprk: Shots are horrible, hopefully he is feeling better today.

@Adira: Hope you start to feel better. My throat isn't sore, but I am so stuffy now and feel like crap. I wish I could just crawl into bed. How is Xander feeling. So far it seems that Isaac hasn't caught anything from me.

@Smurfette: That is great that R went down and you were able to have a bit of time for yourself. I hope daycare goes good again today.

Isaac needs help in the sleep department. He is staying up too late in the evening. Before he was going to sleep at about 8:30, now not until 10:30. I don't know how to get him to sleep earlier. I start bedtime at 7, but that doesn't seem to matter. He is still getting up twice a night which I don't mind, but the last couple nights he has barely eaten both times and goes back to sleep. This makes me think he could just get up once, but I don't know what to do when he gets up as he won't take a soother. I think it just seems worse as I have a cold and want some sleep.

    What would you ladies suggest?

@Adira: hope you got some sleep!

@ALV91711: thanks. I think he's just about back to normal. As for sleep, A doesn't really go down for the night until about 9:30 or 10. That's just how his natural schedule has worked out. If you need to shift his schedule, could you put him down earlier (maybe by 15 minutes each day) and let him hang out until he fall sasleep? I know that's tough. Only works for us when the timing is right and I catch A's first sleepy cues.

@Adira: Last night went pretty good. We got home and she woke up, she played while I washed bottles really quick, nursed, play time, she took a nap, we played some but she was fussy, even a bath didn't make her happy. I started bed time early, she nursed for awhile and fell asleep on the boob.
I was able to pump enough for 4 bottles today, she should only need 3 and I still have one in the fridge for tomorrow.
Today, the morning session was good. The noon one, I only got 5 ozs total. So that will cover the three bottles for tomorrow. I will pump at 3 again. Once she starts drinking more then 4 ozs at a time, will be interesting if I can keep up.

Although I am thinking about quitting all together, phasing it out. I am just scared to till after the 4 month sleep regression, since nursing is the only thing that will put her back to sleep in the middle of the night.

@ALV91711: Sorry, but I am the last one to give sleep advice. Getting Reagan to sleep, unless she falls asleep nursing, is a chore every night. Do you have a bedtime routine? Bath, lotion, pjs, book, nurse, etc? Maybe that would help? Is the room dark to help him realize it is night time. I think R is getting swaddle and nurse = bedtime. When R was waking up in the middle of the night, she didn't eat much either. Could you try letting him nurse longer at night to see if that helps him sleep longer stretches?

@ALV91711: are you approaching or in a wonder week? K"s growth spurts and wonder weeks seem to always come a little bit early. Sleep for a few days is always horrible, but eventually gets back to a good place. I would just suggest dark, quiet room with white noise. For rocking or whatever. I've noticed when I eliminate a lot of the stimulation (even if DH turns off lights and volume of TV down, she's drawn to its light) she falls asleep faster. And DH realized she basically needs it pitch black, we can't even leave the light on the dimmest level on the dimmer. But the blue lift from the sound machine doesn't seem to bother her. Hth!

And not to brag or anything, BUT K had a record night last night!!! I think we are definitely through the 12 week leap and swaddle weaning! She slept 10 hrs! Well a few min less than 10, but she was just quietly entertaining herself in the crib until I went and got her! On the flip side, she usually falls right back asleep until 10:30-11, by stayed up for almost an hour this morning.

We're off to get her last shot and oral thing from her 2 month shots. Can't wait to see how much she weighs, but hope we don't mess up her somewhat schedule we've gotten down the past few days.

@ALV91711: I think Xander had what we have, just a much milder form. He's a little congested and sometimes has a cough, but otherwise, he's in a good mood and seems totally normal! I, on the other hand, feel like crap!

What time is Isaac's last nap before he goes to bed? And how much sleep is he getting during the day? Is it possible he's getting too much (or too little) sleep during the day and that's why he's staying up so late? Is the reason he's not eating much in the middle of the night because he falls asleep? Can you try to get him to eat more/longer? Maybe then he won't wake up the second time?

@Smurfette: I'm totally jealous of the amount you were able to pump! I can JUST barely cover Xander's 3 bottles, and if he drinks his 4th, I'm screwed and have to dip into my stash! Good for you being able to pump so much!! How many times a day do you pump? Three times? Maybe that's part of my problem - I only pump twice.

@shopaholic: OMG, 10 hours?!?! I'm so jealous!!!! I wish Xander would just sleep 7 and I'd be happy, but lately he's been waking up earlier and earlier! Good for you and K!!!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Go K!! How did she do with shots?

@Adira: sorry you aren't feeling any better. Being sick sucks. Yeah, I am pumping 3 times. That is how many times she eats so I thought that is what I am supposed to do. I got about 9 ozs, then 6 oz, and then 5. So it decreases as the day goes on. She didn't eat much this morning so I know that helped why I had more this morning.

Reagan did great again with bottles today. She only napped 15 mins this morning. Then slept 1230-230. When I picked her up at 430, I could tell she was exhausted. She fell asleep as soon as the car started. We got home, nursed and she fell asleep again. The was asleep by 830. I feel bad that she is so tired but she has to get use to sleeping on her own. She didn't want to be put down. Not sure if it is the wonder week or just cause she is so tired.

On another note she hasn't spit up really since Friday, when we think she ate too much and was upset cause she was crying too hard. So I think her reflux is on the way out the door. Going to keep up with her meds till her 4 month appointment and we talk to the doctor.

  13. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@aprk: If I catch his sleepy cues after he nurses I can usually put him down and after 15 minutes he'll usually fall asleep, maybe I'll just try a bit earlier and see how it goes.

@Smurfette: We are getting back to our bedtime routine and it seems to relax him in the evening. The only thing I don't do is book as I usually read him stories in the afternoon. Glad to hear the reflux is better.

@shopaholic: 10 hours is awesome!! I was thinking today that he might be getting to the 12 week growth spurt early, he will be 11 weeks this week. He has been eating a lot more often yesterday and today.

@Adira: I hope you start to feel better. Being sick and looking after a baby is just no fun. The last couple nights he's been cluster feeding for a total of about 1.5 hours before bed. His last nap is usually short and around 4, today he had a cat nap at 6.

I'm anticipating one more nursing session in about half an hour, then I'm putting him to bed to see what happens. When he has his first wake up I'm going to see if he will go to sleep without eating and then he can wake up later to eat. Let's hope this works.

Now for this cold to go away so that I can go and visit my family and show off my boy. I don't want to pass this on to my grandparents.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: WTF! You got 9 oz the first time you pump??? I'm so jealous!!! How long between when you fed R and when you pump for the first time? And how long do you pump for? And what amazing pump do you have? Or do you just have amazing boobs? So jealous right now...

That's great news about the spit-up! I think after 4 months is when it's really supposed to start dying down, so you're definitely on your way in the right direction! I think Xander still probably does at least one big spit-up a day, but maybe not as much as he was before too... though I'm not sure, haha.

@ALV91711: Wow, if he slept at 4:00, I'm surprised he would stay up so late! Although Xander used to do that too, so maybe Isaac just hasn't grown out of that yet. Xander used to be wide awake from around 5:00 to 9:00 or 10:00. I forget how old he was when he finally started going to sleep around 7:00/7:30. Hopefully Isaac will start going to bed earlier for you! How did last night go? And how are you feeling?

OMG ladies, I'm STILL sick, though I think I might FINALLY be starting to feel better. I stayed home again today (so did Hubs, though he's trying to work from home), but I promised my boss I would be back to work tomorrow. I've been chugging some tea, hoping that will help me. I can't WAIT to feel better! This cold is a killer!! Hubs was awesome last night though. He slept in the guest room (which is where we normally sleep now since it's next to the nursery) and let me sleep in our regular bedroom (far far away from the nursery) so I could sleep and he'd be on baby duty. I got to sleep uninterrupted until 4:30!! I think that definitely helped me start to feel better. Though after I fed Xander at 4:30, I couldn't really fall back asleep, so that sucked. Oh well. 6 hours is definitely better than what I had been getting.

@Adira: She doesn't eat a ton in the morning, so I think that is why I get more. Although this morning, I got less then I did yesterday, but still 4 ozs on each side, so that is two bottles for tomorrow. Today I pumped for 20 mins to get that but yesterday I was only doing 10 mins. I have some kind of Medela pump that my insurance sent me. You can't buy it. But it looks like the actual pump in the bag ones they sell. They sent the pump and parts, no bells and whistles. But not complaining since it is free.
Of course R spit up this morning. I nursed her, put in the RnP while I got dressed, got her dressed and then we were playing on the couch till we had to go. All over her bib and outfit, so by 645 she was in her 2nd outfit for the day. I asked day care to write down her spits up for me. They changed her yesterday, said that she soaked through a couple bibs too. But I think that was mostly droll.
Sorry you are so sick. Glad that you got some rest though.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Wow, I'm still so impressed that you're able to pump so much! Xander's a little piggy in the morning - he usually almost completely empties one side and has a good portion from the other. If I'm lucky, I can get 4 oz out (total) about an hour after feeding him. Then I can get around 6 oz at 11:00 and 5 oz at 3:30. Which is JUST enough to cover 3 of his bottles, so as long as he only drinks the 3 bottles, I can cover him for the next day, haha.

Oh my gosh, the drool is crazy! Xander goes through at least an outfit a day at daycare because of it, and he's usually in a bib too!

Booo - I ordered a cute outfit from Babies R Us and they cancelled the order! I'm assuming because the outfit is out of stock, but I'm still totally bummed. It had elephants on it.

Ugh, the worst part of being sick is having to use my personal time to cover it. Normally I have sick time, but I used all of that up during my maternity leave, so now I have to use personal time to cover being out. What sucks about that is that that's what I use to cover my time pumping. So a day of personal time = 4 WEEKS of pumping. So I feel like I just used up 3 months of pumping. I'm just hoping that I actually have MORE personal time than I need, since I can only pump at work until Xander's 1, so I'm hoping I still have enough time to cover that (assuming I even BF that long).

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: What?? You have to use personal time for pumping? That is crazy. Techincally you get a 15 min break every 4 hours, by labor laws. Then your lunch break. Those can't cover it?

I have been getting here around 735 and I leave at 430. I am skipping my hour lunch, and eating while I work (ok, Hellobee too) to make up the time for pumping and to make sure I can leave on time. I think even if I took 30 mins for lunch my boss wouldn't care.

I have to use all my sick time and 3 weeks of vacation for maternity leave. My old boss said that I could take 5 days off the record. So I was saving them for sick days and then a couple days at Christmas. I am going to have to ask my new boss about that.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh, I use my 15 minute breaks, but I pump for 30 minutes, so I have to use 15 minutes of personal time each time I pump. And I actually work through lunch so I'm able to leave work earlier. So every day, I use 30 minutes of personal time to help cover my pumping time. My days are 9 hours (9.5 if I actually took lunch), so I get here at 7:30 and leave at 4:30. I'd have to get here at 7:00 if I wanted to make up the time I spent pumping and still leave on time to pick up Xander.

@Adira: That sucks that they make you take that time. I mean is someone watching you that closely on how long you are gone from your desk?

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: I still feel horrible but last night went way better. Isaac ate again about 9:50 and was asleep at 10:15. He didn't wake up until just before 3:30am and then again at 5:30 and was up at 8am. I just wish I could of slept longer during that first stretch. That sucks that you have to use up a bunch of your personal time being sick. Hopefully it doesn't affect your time for pumping.

@Smurfette: I'm impressed with how much you can pump. That is awesome.

Luckily so far it seems that Isaac has not caught what I have, which I am very happy about. I just want to be better so I can take Isaac to meet my Grandma's.

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I doubt anyone is really watching how long I am away from my desk, but they would consider it "labor mischarging" if I didn't use personal time or make up the time and that's the #1 thing people get fired for, so I try to be careful about it.

@ALV91711: How old is Isaac? Did you feed him at 3:30 and 5:30? I would think he should be able to go from 10:00 to 5:00, although who really knows.

  22. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: That sucks!! Really they should be more supporting. I mean the more people that BF means healthier babies, so in return medical insurance is cheaper. At least that is how I see it.

  23. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: He is 11 weeks tomorrow. I too think he should be able to go from 10 to 5 and that is what I'm trying to get him to do. I did feed him both times and he ate a bunch both times. If I hadn't of been feeling so crappy I don't think I would have fed him at 5:30, but I had barely gotten back to sleep and was kind of out of it.

  24. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I agree!! But I'm an engineer, so there really aren't a lot of women at my company, so maybe that's why they are less supportive? Who knows!

@ALV91711: You might have to wait until you're feeling better to really try pushing him to sleeping longer. I read that being sick can diminish our supply, so it's possible he's not getting as much out as he normally would, so maybe he really can't go 10 to 5 at the moment. I know that since I got sick, Xander hasn't slept that long - he keeps waking up around 3:30/4:00 hungry. I'm hoping once I'm well again, he'll go back to being able to sleep longer!

Ladies, will you update me on how your LOs sleep has been in the 2-3onth range? I'm especially curious about how many and how long naps are/were & how many hours they are sleeping at night/how many (if any) wake ups? I'm trying to figure out if our boys are sleeping enough, if their naps should be more organized, and dear Lord, when will I get to sleep at night.

Here's where ours are with sleep:
Age: 12 weeks, 8 weeks adjusted

Naps: The eat every 3-ish hours and take a 45-1 hr nap during every eat-activity-sleep cycle. They don't take any long naps unless I move them to the swings after they wake up at 45-ish minutes.

Night: They've only dropped one feeding. We put them to bed around 8:30 and they usually sleep about 4-5 hours. Then, they wake up every three hours. They still eat pretty much a full feeding at both night feedings, so I don't think they are waking up just out of habit.

  26. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Mrs. Blue: we have no consistent nap schedule. A is 9 weeks, and usually takes four or five 30 min - 1 hour long naps. Unless we drive somewhere, or we're out and I'm wearing him. He has slept 8 hours at night once, 7 hours a couple times, and generally goes for 5-6 hours for his first stretch at night. He naturally goes to sleep around 9:30. From about 6 am - 10 am we nap in bed together and he eats every hour or so.

I've included our Baby Connect schedule. You can see the blue is sleep, and it's all over the place. He averages 13 hours of sleep a day, which is on the low end.

  27. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@aprk: That sounds about like E & F, and they are close to A in adjusted age, so maybe I shouldn't be worrying about it so much. I just hear so much about all these long stretches of night sleep, and I keep thinking about what the heck I'm supposed to tell daycare about their schedule when they start in a couple weeks. Uhh, WHAT nap schedule?!?!

  28. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: Average 7-8 hours a night, up nurses, then go back to sleep for an hour or so. Then I tried to get her to nap every 1.5 hour. Her naps would usually be 30 mins. An hour is awesome for her. On the evenings most naps are 20 mins unless I put her in the Ktan.

Now that we are in day care, she is sleeping even less. She slept 9 hours last night, napped 20 mins in the car, dropped her off at 730. She didn't nap till 11, and then it was 15 mins. Napped 1:15-2:15, and then 3:30-4;05. Then she slept 30 mins on the way home. She is currently nursing and falling asleep again. She IS NOT getting enough sleep during the day but she is getting adjusted to being there and sleeping on her own.

It is always a battle to get her to sleep, naps horrible, but at least she does good at night.

  29. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@Mrs. Blue: yeah nap schedule is a myth for us. The only general rule is that he USUALLY is ready for a nap somewhere around 2 hours after he woke up. But, definitely not a hard and fast rule. And it only works if I am paying attention and put him down.

  30. Smurfette

So I was wrong about her spitting up:( I changed her this morning before we left the house after she spit up. Day care changed her 3 times today. Not sure how wet she was but they said it was spit up and drool.

Also she ate 2ozs, 3 ozs, and 4 ozs. Doesn't seem like a lot to me. How much is everyone else eating??

  31. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. Blue: My day care doesn't have her on a schedule since she is so little. They just asked how often she eats. I told them we try and get to nap after being up for 1.5 hours but she isn't doing that there.

  32. Mrs. Blue

    blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts

@Smurfette: the boys generally eat anywhere from 2-4 oz. depending on how they are feeling (acid reflux wise), so that sounds normal to me. I do worry all the time that they aren't getting enough, but they are still gaining weight and having enough wet/dirty dipes, so they must be getting enough,

You guys are making me feel more normal about their naps, etc. I know I'm MIA a lot, but this is why I love having a group of moms whose kids are all in the same stages as mine!

@Mrs. Blue: I would be MIA if I had twins too! Your day in the life post exhausted me just reading all you do. Glad that your boys are eating around the same as R. I told DH tonight, she looks thinner to me. He laughed and said I am sure it all in your head. I do think that it was just the outfit she had on tonight. So worried all the time something is wrong with her. But you are right, she has plenty of dirty diapers, so she must be getting plenty.

@Mrs. Blue: Sleep is something that is hit or miss around here. It seems bedtime is 10-10:30 and up twice and usually up for the day between 8-9. Usually after being awake for a couple hours he has a nap. But then days like today the nap total was about 2 hours total. Now he is fighting going to bed even though he is so sleepy. Our longest night sleep is 6 hours and last night we had a 5 hour stretch. I normally get one 4 hour stretch, but with the new late bedtime that is not happening. I couldn't imagine having to do it with two, you are amazing!

@Smurfette: I hope that she starts to sleep more at daycare. I guess she is just getting used to her new surroundings.

  36. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I wish I had my info with me, but I don't at the moment, so this is my recollection of how things were going with Xander at that time. During the day, he would do a couple short 30 minute naps and maybe one nap that lasted an hour or longer (sometimes he'd skip this long nap and have another short one). He was eating every 3 hours. At night, I would force him to cluster feed to tank him up (feeding him at around 4:00, 6:00, and 8:00) before putting him to bed for the night. He OFTEN didn't nap during this time. I think he was down to one wake up at this point, so he'd sleep from around 9:00 to 2:00 or 3:00 and then every 3 hours after that.

I think it was maybe a week or two before I went back to work that he started sleeping longer/better. His current schedule (loosely, times not exact), which he's had since around 10/11 weeks is this:

8:00 a.m. - wakeup for the day, eat, followed by activity
    10:00 a.m. - 30 minute nap
    11:00 a.m. - eat, followed by activity
12:30 p.m. - 2 hour nap <-- this nap varies as to when it happens
    2:30 p.m. - eat, followed by activity
    5:00 p.m. - 30 minute nap
5:30/6:00 p.m. - eat, followed by bedtime routine
    7:30 p.m. - asleep!
    9:00 p.m. - I wake him up to feed
    10:00 p.m. - asleep for the night
    5:00 a.m. - morning wakeup to eat!
    5:30 a.m. - back to bed

I think them waking up after 5 hours is probably pretty normal for their adjusted age. Hopefully it won't be much longer before they are sleeping 7 hours or longer!

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Blue: I just made up stuff for daycare, haha. They didn't seem to care. They wanted to know what time his naps were, and I just said "anywhere from an hour to 2.5 hours after he wakes up!" He seems to nap fine there, so I don't worry about it. Daycare will figure out what your babies need, so try not to worry!

@Smurfette: Ugh, Xander goes through multiple outfits at daycare too because of spit-up! I read that spit-up peaks around 4 months so...

Don't judge R based on what Xander does, but he usually eats 12-15oz at daycare. I think last time he was there he had 5oz, 5oz, and then 4oz. Also, R might have looked thinner if she just went through a growth spurt. Maybe she's taller and less chubby. I think Xander looks thinner too.

@Mrs. Blue: I was talking to a Dad at day care this morning. He was dropping off his 8 month old twins and said that they are just doing 5 hour stretches at night. So be glad that your boys are already doing that!

@Adira: You are right, it probably is a growth spurt and she just got taller. She diapers and pants just seem loose on her. I want her to gain weight. I want to move to 3-6 clothes cause I just bought a ton and they are SO cute!

@Smurfette: Yeah, same with Xander - everything seems fairly loose on him. BUT he's definitely getting too long for his 0-3 one-piece pajamas, so I know he must be growing. I finally started putting him in 3-6 pajamas, though everything else in the 0-3 fits just fine. He's just getting tall!

@Adira: Yeah the PJ's that I put R in last night, are getting tight in the length. I need to check that we have 3-6 sleepers. I am pretty sure my friend gave us a ton from her daughter. I have washed everything. It is sad starting to box up all the 0-3 when they are getting too small. Our babies are getting to big!
