Does anyone else have appointments this week? Mine is Friday, finally!!
eggplant / 11408 posts
I guess it's time to come on over here...
I'm 9 weeks today, due March 27 with baby #2. (I have a 28 month old DD). I got a huge surprise of a at 5w3d after negatives around when I thought my period was due.
I have been so, so sick this pregnancy. I'm on around the clock Zofran and have already lost 6 pounds, mostly from not being able to eat. My doctor says it might be HG, but either way, it's miserable. I am counting down the days until the first trip is over and hope I can get my life back. Until then, we spend a lot of time on the couch and too much time watching TV (thank goodness for summer vacation). Heavens knows what will happen when I go back to school next week.
Will try to catch up soon with this thread.
@lilyann: I do. Mines on Thursday. No idea if I'll get an ultrasound or not.

@Mrs. Pen: you ran a 5K?! Good going, woman! I watched people run one at the Olympics. Does that count?

@lilyann: I have my NT scan on Thursday, and I am awaiting the call for my NIPT results any day this week. So nervous for that one!

@LovelyPlum: Welcome and congratulations! Sorry you've had such bad morning sickness - there's been a lot more couch-laying than usual in our house too. (Also, a ton of oven-pizza-eating, because it's easy. Not proud of our lifestyle lately, ha.) Hope you start feeling better soon!

@oskarsmommy: Ah, that's so exciting! It took 10 business days for my NIPT results with DS1, and 7 business days with DS2 - hoping you get yours soon!

@raspberries: when i went back to work after my last Mat leave, I made a ton and froze them. I should do that again. I really like it when I put them in the panini maker in the morning to crisp them up.
I didn't buy that wrap, it was $425 and I just couldn't justify it. Everyone says handwovens are worth the extra month, but I just couldn't do it even tho it was a good deal. I did end up buying a cheaper one though that I've had my eye on for a while!

@LovelyPlum: yay so glad you came over I'm seriously so excited for you.
And yes, watching the Olympics totally counts
@oskarsmommy: omg yay!!! Ahh so happy for you!!!
@MrsB2012: YIKES. $425? Ouch.
@lilyann: yes!! My first midwife appt is tomorrow and I'm soooooo excited!!! I found the midwife I had with my son, and I'm so excited to see her again. I know she's going to be thrilled to see us again too. She also cared for my sister's pregnancies so we Got to know her very well.
I really hope we can do an US. Like someone said earlier, doesn't matter that I saw the baby three weeks ago, I feel like I need to again!

@lilyann: thanks for this! I am a little sad, as I was hoping for a girl, but I know I will get over it in a few days

@MrsB2012: ...yeah, it'd take a lot to justify $425. Unless maaaaybe it has awesome resale value?? Okay, enough being devil's advocate.
@oskarsmommy: Awww, congratulations! Welcome to the two boy club!
@lilyann: Your little men are the cutest!
My appt yesterday went really well - a small SCH they were monitoring went away on its own, baby looks great with a heart rate of 158, and he was squirming around like a little rock star. Also, my iron levels are nice and high (they were too low last time - I needed iron infusions) so here's hoping they stay that way!

My appt today was interesting and a little unexpected. Just a weird case of miscommunication I guess. I was under the impression today's visit was my first prenatal visit with the midwife, but it was actually scheduled as an initial consult/meet-and-greet at the birth center and not a prenatal visit at all. I started to realize it about 10-15 minutes into the meeting, and mentioned it to the midwife who was meeting with us. She apologized for the miscommunication, and said she'd check and see if they might have an opening to fit us in today. I had mentioned I took the day off of work for this visit knowing it'd be longer! she was really kind about it, and then came back to say we could get started. So I meant that to mean they had an opening and could accommodate me. So I started on all the paperwork, and then waited for quite a bit. Then a nurse (not nurse midwife) came and we went to another room and she did an H&P and had me pee in a cup to confirm the pregnancy (even though I'd mentioned I'd had a 7-week US already??).
So at the end of this, we spoke with the billing specialist, who said our current insurance is not only out of network but doesn't cover birth center at all. Which, I knew kind of and isn't an issue because with DH losing his job, we're switching to my company's health insurance and their plan is in-network. However, todays visit was so weird, it's coded as a "pregnancy confirmation visit". And I'm a bit annoyed. I have already had a pregnancy confirmation with my primary physician, and the ultrasound following my urgent care visit. So I have to pay out of pocket for this pregnancy confirmation visit. And until we switch to my health insurance (sometime mid september), we have to do self-pay for the birth center. So it kind of sucks. We spent three hours there and just felt like we didn't do anything. Didn't hear the heartbeat, didn't get an U/S, didn't meet with the midwife other than surface questions at the beginning.
If we were actually touring different birth centers, I'd likely consider going somewhere else just because of all the miscommunication that took place, but this is the place where the midwife who cared for my first pregnancy works. And I came here specifically for her - now I can't guarantee she'll deliver this baby because of course all four midwives rotate on-call, but she'll still be a part of my care. So I'm choosing to look past it for now. And we did get my subsequent visits scheduled. I have an ultrasound Friday morning and my first official prenatal visit 9/6, which is just about when I hit 12 weeks. So I'm excited for Friday to see the baby!
This place is 45 minutes away which sucks because I have to work the appts around my work schedule. I can't keep taking PTO for prenatal visits when I need to save my PTO for leave. But I knew that going into it, so it is what it is. There's no birth centers within 30 minutes of me and that's really the care I want - so the drive is worth it.
Also - I keep having dreams the baby is a GIRL think it means anything
haha

So today I had another appt. technically my first prenatal... Since it was with my regular ob! It was a very exciting visit for DH and I. We didn't make it to this point last time. Around this time our appt. told us simply there was no heartbeat so it was very bittersweet and comforting to know baby is growing strong!
Baby is 2 inches... We saw the brain, spine, and was moving all around! Baby was sucking both thumbs and we saw baby's face! Baby looked right at us twice . The due date is back to March 15th haha... And baby was measuring a week ahead almost. 11w5d and I am 10w6d. Doc said everything look wonderful! It makes me so happy. I just hope this baby isn't huge. Dh's sister was 11lbs. At birth and she was two weeks early! Ekk

@Mrs. Pen: Oh man, that would be SO frustrating! I guess that means you're having to pay out of pocket for this unnecessary appt as well as your ultrasound/first prenatal appt too. Ugh! I usually try to take the first appointment of the day at 7:45AM to limit the amount of PTO I use, but it always ends up sucking up more time than I'd like.
@Weswife: Yay! I'm glad everything looked good for you!
@Pinkberrry: Welcome! We also got pregnant our first month trying this time - it was a total shock, because it took almost a year with my first son. On an unrelated note, I think you may have inspired me to get some pinkberry on my lunch break today, haha.

@Ajsmommy: Thank you! DS2 is due on March 5, and my first one came 2 weeks early - so who knows, I may have a February baby on my hands!!

@raspberries: I'm a home visit nurse and see multiple patients a day. So I have to know when I'd be done in the morning and set up my patients accordingly. So I likely won't do many am appts because of that. And the territory I see my patients in is a good 30 minutes from the birth center too.
I have an ultrasound Friday at 8:30 and they said it should take half an hour and I'm giving them an hour, and set up my first patient for 10am. I may have to work an hour or two later catching up but it should be okay.
But I think I'll try for the latest afternoon visit if possible just cause it's easier for me to try to get through my patients a little earlier and save charting/follow-up work for evening if I need to.

@Mrs. Pen: ugh, I would be so frustrated. I mean, at least they "got you in", but for the wrong kind of visit. What a huge pain. But at least you get to see babe on Friday. As for switching, maybe give it a real visit and see how you feel then?
@Pinkberrry: welcome!!
@oskarsmommy: congratulations on your boy!
I'm starting to lose it over here. Being so sick has taken a huge mental toll on me and my family. We don't really have a support network here, and DH has been working every night. I finally broke down today after DH and I had a huge fght. He's been great, but it is a lot for us all. I just wish this would go away soon. I'm tired of throwing up, having no energy, and being afraid to plan anything for fear I won't be able to go. I just want to feel better. I go to the doctors tomorrow, but I don't know how that will help. I'm already on Zofran around the clock.

@raspberries: That happened to me with my DD. Due Dec, joined that board and had her in Nov

@oskarsmommy: @LovelyPlum: on the upside - just found out insurance covered my 7 week US and visit with my PCP at 100% (which they never do), which frees up money in our FSA to cover the birth center expenses until we switch to my health insurance.
And yes, I'm still planning to go with them.. Everyone was very kind, it was just some miscommunication so not a huge deal (just cost me an extra $250 lol). I'm so excited for my U/S on Friday!
With my first pregnancy, we only did one U/S - the 20 week anatomy scan. I remember being so envious of other mamas on my due date board who saw the baby all the time. I'm really happy the birth center I'm going with this time around has U/S equipment.

@LovelyPlum: how many weeks are you? I am just now 11 and things are starting to feel better on my end.

@Weswife: I'm 9+2 today. I hope it starts to abate soon. I'm dying over here.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@LovelyPlum: I hear you on being sick. I just placed this obviously pregnant order on Amazon: Ginger candy, peppermint candies, preggo drops, and morning sickness tea.
@Weswife: I'm 10+2 and actually feel sicker now than I did two weeks ago.
With my first, I was sick from weeks 6-18. And it was the most miserable thing. I was actually vomiting everyday. This time, so far I've only vomited once, but the nausea is pretty bad.
So I realllly hope it's gone at 12 weeks unlike last time.

@LovelyPlum: I say that and then I threw up to day ... Although I only feel sick around dinner time till bed

@oskarsmommy: @LovelyPlum: Good luck at your appointments today!
@Mrs. Pen: That makes sense - I feel like there must be a rush on early morning and late afternoon appointments. I always feel bad for the people who get stuck with the 11AM ones.
@Weswife: Haha, thank you! I'm mildly neurotic
In other news, I finally told my boss and we announced on FB (I'm at 12w4d today.) I'm kind of relieved not have to hide it anymore!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@raspberries: if I was a SAHM, I wouldn't mind mid day appts so I'm sure that's who ends up taking those 11am appts. On Tuesday, I was shocked at how packed it was- there was a constant influx of women there for appts.
Ahhh congrats on announcing!! How did you do it?
As long as my U/S goes well tomorrow, I'm going to announce publicly tomorrow. I'll be only 10+5- but feel pretty confident at this point.
