@Smurfette: Yeah, when I made my baby registry at Target, they sent me a 15% off coupon that I could use as many times in a single day as I wanted. Which I thought pretty nifty Kudos on the 15% at BRU.

The crib is here! Its bigger than I remember it lol. We're trying to get used to it being in our bedroom. Its a big room but suddenly it looks much smaller. Lol

My cats find it interesting lol

@Adira: @NaturallyCathy: DH could have cared less about anything I registered us for. But I made him sit next to me at both showers and for his co-workers shower, I made him be the gift opener while I took the notes. It was SO FUNNY because he didn't know what some of the stuff were so it was funny when we all explained it to him. And some of the stuff he was so ecstatic about and they were like "it was on your registry!" lol! They most notable stuff were the stroller locks and sports team stuff he loved. Don't worry - your DH will be totally interested in BABY when he gets here, and probably still not as much about the "stuff" except for maybe tech-y things if he's like most guys I know. And that's sweet he even fakes enthusiasm for you on stuff you really care about!

@katiew92081: OMG I can't even imagine waitressing at this point in pregnancy! I have a hard enough time wanting to eat in a restaurant and wait and sit. I would rather eat something fast and pass out on the sofa in 20 min. Oh yeah! I remember thinking I could fit the crib, a twin bed, the dresser, glider chair, ottoman, night-stand, and even possibly a bookshelf in our nursery! LOL! I doesn't even have HALF that stuff in there now and the room looks completely full!

@Smurfette: Cool on the registry completion card! I'm trying to figure out when we want to do that and what to buy off which registries.

Sorry I was so quiet today! We had the cable/security guys here and it took them over 4 hours to install and set-up everything! It's pretty cool though and DH is really happy he can see the house while he is gone. And we tested out the camera. So he can even log on at work and I can show him the baby in the camera if I want!

I wanted to add the thermostat adjuster thing so I can access it from my phone or computer for the baby before we get home if we are out. Through our company, COX, it would be an additional $200! I thought that was highway robbery so I will be trying to get one of my techy guy friends to help us set up a basic one without linking it through the alarm.

Gah - even though I've been home all afternoon, I'm SO TIRED! I feel like I'm never going to finish my re-finishing and painting the dresser project! Yesterday was a huge mom-FAIL as I primed it with an oil-based product and learned that that kind of primer does NOT just wash out like paint! I got it in my hair, on my face, all over my hands! Spent 1/2 hr trying to scrub it off my skin and got the worst headache from all the fumes! Not to mention my skin burned for almost an hour afterwards. No doubt bad for baby! Thank goodness that part is over and I'm not doing a second coat of primer for nothing now!

@katiew92081: Yay! I can't wait to put ours together.
@shopaholic: We are going to get this.
    http://www.amazon.com/Nest-Learning-Thermostat-Generation-T100577/dp/B006ML9J4O
It is expensive but you can control from your iphone and tracks your patterns so it will shut off when you aren't there. So the reduction in power should off the price.
Sorry you are so tired. I am exhausted today. I need to go to bed soon!

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@shopaholic: Could someone else do the painting for you? Then you don't have to worry about breathing it. I am having my Mom come out to the new house next weekend and paint the nursery, cause 1) I am lazy and 2) I don't want to be in the room with all the fumes.

  7. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Smurfette: Thanks! I'll have to check that out! Now that I'm done priming, I don't think I'll have any problems with the regular painting. It was just a terrible lesson to learn about oil-based products! The regular paint is not that toxic or fume-y.

@katiew92081: Yay!!! Congrats on finally having the crib!!!

@shopaholic: Oh wow, that's really cool about your security setup! Do you mind me asking how much that is going to cost you a month? It's really cool that you have cameras all setup so you can see the house when you're not there.

I definitely have hit third trimester fatigue! I passed out on the couch at 8:30 last night! Hubs had to wake me up to go to bed!!

  9. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: I'm in constant fatigue because of my nearly one year old (one more week!) waking me up in the middle of the night sometimes still. That and chasing his cute little butt around the house and lifting him all the time? I'm getting my exercise right at home.

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I can't only imagine how difficult it must be to be pregnant AND have a child already to take care of!!! I'm interested in hearing about your experiences once the baby is here and you have TWO kids to take care of! I want my children close in age, so any advice you'll be able to give, I'll soak it up!

  11. Smurfette

Last night baby was kicking, and I got my phone out to record my belly moving all around to send to DH (traveling this week). Of course she stopped as soon as I was recording. I pressed on my belly a couple times to get her to kick, stinker didn't kick till I stopped recording, but I felt what I think was a foot. At least it was some kind of body part. That was the first time I have been able to make anything out!

  12. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: I'll be interested to see what I come up with too. I know the crying and sleepless nights will probably bother me less and I'll feel more confident but other than that, this baby is a whole new playing field and so is the set of circumstances coming with him/her.

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I find baby never does what I want him to! He'll be kicking up a storm and I'll go grab Hubs hand so he can feel it and then baby will just stop. The little jerk! That's cool you were able to make out a body part though! I can't figure anything out!

@NaturallyCathy: I'm curious to find out if having two kids is twice as hard as having one, or not nearly as bad because you have all that experience from the first to use on the second! How do you think your son will react when you bring home the new baby?

  14. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

I totally lied yesterday, I just peaked at our registry and someone bought our monitor, high chair, grooming kit, and someone added some barrettes. Woo hoo! So excited the monitor was bought since it is pricey!

  15. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: Well I'll try to post regular updates on the subject when this next babe is born but it may be a few weeks afterwards before I'm able to post anything. I'm not sure how I'm going to juggle everything and try to keep up with the blog - which I'm notorious for -not- keeping up with - but I intend to try!

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, I'm so jealous!!! I wish someone had bought our monitor, but I knew they wouldn't because I picked an expensive video monitor. Oh well! Congrats to you!!

@NaturallyCathy: Yeah, I suspect we'll all be pretty busy once our babies are here and won't be able to post nearly as much! Though I do hope we all keep in touch!!!

  17. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: I hope so too. It'll be an interesting expirament for me. Henry is only now getting two good naps in and mostly sleeping through the night. I can't imagine how this is going to effect everyone's sleeping but I imagine that I might get a few minutes of down time to post -something-, -somewhere-. If I don't pass out first from exhaustion from either child!

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I am curious how a new baby will affect your son's sleeping! Are you going to keep the baby in your room in the beginning while you have to feed them every 2-3 hours? Will that be separated enough from your son's room as to hopefully not wake him in the middle of the night?

  19. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: I was shocked since it $150. Maybe is from my parents.

  20. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: Okay. This is a rough sketch of my house. And I mean very rough, I made it in Microsoft Paint. Our house is about 1300 sq ft and off a five lane highway.

When Henry was born, he stayed in our room, in that corner between the two doorways (the one leading to the nursery and the one leading to the kitchen). He stayed in a bassinet first, then when he outgrew that, we put him in a cradle that a family friend gave us. After he got big enough to rock the cradle hard enough to make me nervous (about six months), we renovated the room to the right of our bedroom and turned it into a nursery.

When we turned that room into a nursery, we put the crib on the same wall as the door between our bedrooms. That's also where the head of our bed is on the opposite side. When the new baby is born, we'll more than likely have to switch the crib to the corner over by the doorway leading to the living room to try and give Henry a little space between him and the baby but other than that, there's not much we can do. We need to put the bassinet and cradle back where we had them the first time around. And I'll probably have to put the glider back in the kitchen so I can use it while nursing/feeding this new babe.

Which is why we're desperately hoping this new house thing doesn't fall through but we're in limbo and the contract's been extended and so on and so forth (deep breath, don't panic)...

  21. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Very nice! One less expensive thing you'll have to buy!!

@NaturallyCathy: Oh my gosh, I totally get why this new house is such a big deal! 1300 sq ft is a great size for two people, but getting kind of cramped for a family of four! The only suggestion I have if the baby is disrupting Henry's sleep is to maybe switch out the office and nursery, depending on the size. But you'll lose the closet for Henry, plus I'm assuming the office is smaller in size. But that would put a little more distance between him and the baby - although I don't know if you'd want him that far from you. Hopefully you'll be getting a new house soon enough and this won't be an issue!

@smurfette: my baby stops as soon as my husband or my son put their hands on my belly, too. What's up with that?

@naturallycathy: I don't envy you. When my son was little, I wanted another baby right away. But, since life had other plans (divorce, single mom hood and remarriage), I'm just now getting my second kid. My son is so independent (for the most part) and helpful that it makes the transition pretty easy.

However, the way my husband talks, I may be in your shoes next year, lol. He jokes about it, but I fear that there may be some truth in his jokes, lol.

  23. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: The closet's not important and neither really is the difference in space, although my office is smaller. Putting him in my office would put him closer to the five lane highway, which gets tons of sirens and etc. Which is why we can't even consider such a move for either babe.

Besides, my office isn't renovated yet. The only renovated rooms are the master bedroom, the walk-in closet, the bathroom, the nursery, and the dining room is currently in the works. We need to finish the dining room (and will once my DH's schedule settles down), work on my office, then finish up with the living room. Then the house will be ready to sell.

  24. Adira

@NaturallyCathy: Ahhh, I gotcha!! Well maybe you'll get lucky and baby #2 will be fairly quiet at night, haha.

  25. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Adira: Here's hoping or my son suddenly becomes a hard sleeper... which he's not. Or maybe the house will come through before this next babe's come.

@katiew92081: I don't think anyone envies my position. I think the only thing that would make it worse if we were expecting multiples, which I'm grateful we aren't!

  26. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@naturallycathy and @adira: My son was so easy as a baby. He slept so good. I fear that this baby is going to be the one who keeps me up all night, lol.

We're gonna start looking at houses this weekend, too. No rushing into things, but we're both itching to get out of the apartment complex. It's just not for us. Our dogs live with my in laws, and we really want to be able to fence in a yard and have them home with us. Plus, the baby will eventually need her own room anyways. So, we'll see how things progress.

@shopaholic: Geez- be careful with the painting- my husband was NUTS about me not painting while preggers (so i just did it while he was at work!!) but i did wear a special mask that blocked fumes and you should be using low or no VOC paint.

@Smurfette: i am so bad with checking in on my registry.... i basically stalk it!!

@Adira: is it not FREEZING in MA today!?!?

    So a few updates!

I have narrowed down our peditrician to 2 different practices (and people in them) I have pros and cons for both and wanted to see if you guys had any input-
#1 is about 5-7 minutes from our house- a practice specializing in pedi and got a great reccomendation from my SIL- but their hours kinda stink- they are only open till 4:30 for patients (not sure how DH or I could get there) also they are affliated with hopsitals from 5-10 minutes from our house....
#2 is about 15-20 minutes from our house- a practice (that I go to) that has all specilities in house including radiology, blood work, specialites, etc. They are affliated with the hospital i am delivering in 22 minutes from our house (DH timed it...) and at Childrens in Boston. Also they are open till 7:30 everynight.
What do you guys think- further away but better hours- or closer with limited hours.....

Anyone have Newborn Photography scheduled/booked yet? I am waiting to hear back from 2 different people- one is more cost efficient and the other costs more, but I like her pictures better. Yikes- who knew baby photography would be so expensive!!

I cant stop STALKING my registries.... I am on at least one (or twice) a day seeing what people have bought. I am starting to get nervous cuz my shower is a week and a half away (Sat, Feb 2nd!) and barely anything has been bought!! Hopefully they are just waiting till the last minute and will start buying things soon!

Also- I am having a hard time keeping weight on- I know that sounds crazy- but I am eating normal and I cant seem to gain weight- i keep losing! I have been watching my weight soooo much becasue they told me i couldnt gain over 20 lbs that now I am having a hard time putting/keeping it on- even though my dr. asked me to put a bit more on! Yikes- must be all those years of dieting that are engrained in me....

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cheert16: Oh my gosh, it's soooooooooo cold here!!! I'm so thankful my furnace is fixed!!!!

I personally would probably go with the pediatrics office that was further but had the better hours and perks. The fact that it's also your office I think will be a benefit. Plus when your kids are older and in school, you may appreciate the fact they are open later!

Don't worry about your registry! People don't REALLY start buying things until a few days before your shower! There was only a couple things bought on the Thursday before my shower, but I got sooooo many things and when I checked my registry after, I saw that so many things had been purchased! Plus some people will purchase things elsewhere!

I'm jealous of your weight issue, haha. I think as long as you eat when you are hungry, you're probably fine! Maybe add an extra yogurt or granola bar to your day or an extra glass of milk. Just little things throughout the day will add up.

  30. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: Have fun! It is so stressful but fun. Hopefully it won't take you 8 months to find a house, like it did us.

@cheert16: I was so good about not checking our wedding registries but this I can't help it. I think knowing we have so many expenses coming up with buying the house, is making me freak out more about what we have to buy for baby. I am not telling DH that I am stalking cause he would just tell me to stop! Which I am trying, but I can't help it.

I would go with the doctor that is open later. 3 hours is a big chunk when you never know when a baby is going to come down with something.

We have our newborn photographer booked. Found her online, semi new and was running a special so the session was just $79. Then it will be $250 for the CD of pictures, which I want. Much cheaper then everything I was finding. I bought a tutu for her to wear. Then letting the photographer pick the other props from her closet. Now we just have to not forget to call her once baby is born to schedule it.

It seems that everyone waits till the last minute to buy gifts for shower, so don't sweat it yet. You still have two weekends for people to go shopping. Also I found some shop at other places but still get what you want off the registry. We got stuff from Target, I guess cause people were just there. But at least they looked up beforehand what we wanted.

I don't think that I can "talk" to you anymore if you are losing weight Maybe I am gaining it for you! Is your doctor concerned? Maybe try adding a milkshake a day. Those are loaded with calories. When my cousin was pregnant with triplets she had 1 or 2 a day cause she couldn't eat enough calories otherwise.

  31. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@cheert16: I can't put weight on, either. I'm only +3 over my pre- pregnancy weight. The weirdest part about it is that I'm sooo tired, I barely do anything all day. I feel like a lazy sloth! If I wasn't pregnant, I'd be huge! I guess this kids sucks all my energy. I do eat...a lot! So, I don't know what's up with that. I really wouldn't mind to have this problem after I have her...at least for a couple months, lol.

I would pick the one with the hours that work better for you. However, when you have a sick kid, the ideal is to get them in asap. At that point, you're home with them anyways, cause they can't go to daycare, and you don't want to wait all day for your kid to feel better. But, since the first year is all about well visits, the later hours will probably be easier for you. I wouldn't worry what hospital they are affiliated with, as long as they are in network for you.

I know it's probably just me but this late in the pregnancy, has anyone been experiencing even more nausea, problems with gas, heart burn, BMs, etc? I didn't have this the last time around and I didn't have any morning sickness either times so all of this is new to me. It's making me miserable and food's a complete turn off but I have to eat something.

  33. aprk

    pomegranate / 3452 posts

@NaturallyCathy: yep. At this point I had awful gas, more heartburn, and constantly have to use the bathroom. I'm a dream to be around, lol. The past few days I haven't been super into food either. It's becoming a chore.

  34. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@aprk: I feel like any minute I'm going to be sick. I'm always afraid to burp because I'm afraid I'll embarrass myself and have to rush to find a trash can or something. And some of the gas I've been having has had pressure behind it, which always sends me scrambling to the bathroom. I don't remember any of this the last time around! And my sense of smell has gotten considerably more sensitive.

    nectarine / 2631 posts

@Smurfette: Ahhh i'm sorry! I am trying to gain- this has never been an issue before now!! Its probably cuz i was bigger to start so I need less to gain...

@NaturallyCathy: the heartburn is a NIGHTMARE! literally i sleep with a bottle of tums in bed with me!

  36. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I have days where I have no heartburn and then I have it. I am majorly constipated these days. Because I have to take iron supplements, which cause constipation, I have upped my fiber but the last week it is not helping.

  37. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Ugh, yes. The heartburn to me is the worst, and sometimes I feel like vomit is just coming up, though I haven't actually thrown up yet. I've started carrying Tums with me wherever I go! The last couple weeks, my constipation hasn't seemed as bad - I think because I've been trying to get more fiber in, so maybe that's helping? But I'm still scared every time I have to do a BM that it's going to be a nightmare. I had a few weeks there where after, I would just curl on the couch and cry to Hubs. Heartburn and constipation are the two things I have HATED about being pregnant.

Hey ladies- what did you wear to your shower??

  39. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@cheert16: I wore dark wash maternity jeans, a pink scoop-neck t-shirt, and a dark grey belted sweater. Oh, and black ballet flats. So I was semi-casual.

  40. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@cheert16: I wore a dress with a cardigan to my first one. It was super nice that day, so I could go bare legs. This Sunday I will probably just wear black pants and a sweater/top since it is supposed to be colder.
