If you are dealing with constipation, I HIGHLY recommend a bowl of this cereal for breakfast and one before bed...I have been going through a box a week for the past month or 2 and haven't had any trouble since starting that regimen! I have to take iron supplements, too... @Smurfette do you take the slow release kind? supposedly they're less likely to stop you up, but I haven't tried the regular kind for comparison.

@naturallycathy: yep, I burp all the time. I gross myself out with them and Tums have been my best friend.

  3. Smurfette

@tororojo: I have no idea if the iron is a slow release. I just bought whatever they had, it was the 3rd pharmacy that I went too that had any at all. I take fiber gummies in the AM and then drink water with fiber added in the evening, along with whatever else I eat throughout the day. I am not a big cereal fan but maybe I need to try this one.

This baby has hiccups every day. Twice so far today. Right now they're going on, actually. I can't believe how often this girl has hiccups!

@katiew92081: When I went in for my last ultrasound (which was ages ago), my technicians kept going 'awww' because whoever this little one is kept yawning. Last pregnancy, the hiccups Henry used to get drove me crazy! Thankfully, this one seems content to hiccup only every few days.

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@naturallycathy: That's cute! In the ultrasound we had, at 17 weeks, this girl tucked her arms behind her legs and curled herself up. It was so weird...I was wondering what the heck was going in her mind, and how did she manage to be so graceful? lol

  7. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@Smurfette: I ended up w/the slow release ones because that's all they had left at Target...weird that iron pills are in such high demand! But I have bought them intentionally ever since the first box, since they didn't give me any trouble and they claim to help avoid constipation. I was really hesitant to buy that cereal because it looks gross, but every time I posted about constipation someone recommended it, so I finally gave in and it doesn't taste bad (my main concern), plus it's effective! And you can still have curly fries with cheese for lunch to balance it out.

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@katiew92081: Some of the pictures they gave me included the yawn and it looked like a weird, grainy, black and white version of that poster you sometimes see in doctor's offices? The one where they have his bald guy's head cut in half and you can see all the way down his throat? Yeah, it was about like that. Scary scary stuff...

  9. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@tororojo: What is the brand from Target? I am going there tomorrow after work. It does look gross, but after this week I am willing to try anything.

Great, now I want some fries!

@naturallycathy: hahaha...I have a spooky pic of my son from one of his scans. Just looks like a scary demon, hahaha.

I have a 36 weeks appointment with an OB next month, and I'm wondering if they're gonna offer an ultrasound. The appointment is pretty much just to ok me to the birth center, but I know at that office they have a us machine, and one of the things I miss most about going with the midwives is the ultrasounds to get a sneak peek at my baby. I'm hoping I'll have a chance...or I can at least ask.

@Adira: I think we spent about $400 for installation and all the camera, monitor, door sensors, and motion sensor. Since we bundled it with our cable and internet through COX, I think our monthly service is $35. The good thing about it is that it's all wired with the internet and they have a phone app too. We can access it from any computer with our log-on or our smart phones to arm/disarm the security and have live streaming video of the where the camera is set up.

@Adira: @NaturallyCathy: Fatigue is definitely hitting me, though I still try to make it up to midnight these nights. But it's definitely getting harder and harder! I can't even imagine having another baby/LO to run after! It's a real eye-opener when we start thinking about a #2!

@Smurfette: I KNOW what you mean! I've been wanting to take some video too of all the shaking and rolling of my tummy but then she stops! That is AWESOME about the video monitor! That's a killer gift and something I still need to get!

@katiew92081: Good Luck on the house-hunting this weekend! Wear comfy shoes and bring water!

@cheert16: Yeah! I should have been smarter about it! The paint is low-VOC and I wore the special mask while I was sanding the dresser. IDK why I never thought the primer was such a big deal. Lesson learned and I'm done with that!

RE: The Pediatrician - Yay for narrowing it down to 2! I've basically narrowed it down to 2 also, but have yet to meet them. Meet the first one tomorrow and he comes highly recommended by DH's co-workers and by the famous Dr. Sears. He's in his 60s though - so it will be interesting to see how he is. The other one is my BFF's Ped & G.P. She's almost as young as us! I haven't been able to get through to her office yet though to schedule a meet & greet.

In your case, I'd choose the Dr. with the better hours. It's so annoying when you can't get in or get ahold of the Dr. when you need them. Kids and people don't always get sick just in a limited time period. And I agree that if LO is sick, you'd be home already anyways so that extra 10 min. of driving or so is not a big deal for me.

RE: Newborn Photography - OMG YES! I posted a few threads about this a few weeks ago when I was deciding! The ones I liked are all SO pricey! But it was really important to me to do the NB pics. I think all in all, it will be about $750 - $800 for the session and digital files? We also are recommended to call her to schedule the shoot while we are still in the hospital so she can get those super cute propped pics within 10 days of being born. I do think the prices are crazy, but we spread out the payments and I just can't help but think you only get those first 10 days of their life once ever! And I've had friends who told me they regret not doing them!

RE: Registry-Stalking - hahaha! Enjoy it! So much fun and now that our showers are over, I still feel compelled to check, but of course nothing is getting knocked off now! Now I just try to edit and add what I think I want/need to get before the registry completion discounts. Don't worry about not seeing any activity. We got things I didn't even see the night before the shower! People are last minute shoppers and some people don't bother marking them off even when they buy things. We also got registry things from different stores as well.

RE: Weight Gain - Oh that's such a toughie! It's like you gain too much you worry. You gain too little you worry too! I kind of understand both sides. I'm up (or down now this week) 16 lbs total from PP weight. Dr. was worried I was dieting, but I'm not. I eat terrible actually! And PP, I could gain 10 lbs easily just from eating out a lot in a week! Go figure. Hopefully it's as easy to lose weight after baby comes, but I hear BF gives you a ferocious appetite!

RE: Constipation - I take Colace Stool Softener like every single night.

RE: Shower Outfit - I know it's freezing in most states right now. I just wore a cute lace-crochet dress with 3/4 sleeves.

    * I think my super short torso is making things really uncomfortable these days! I feel like baby girl is right up inside my ribs and under my boobs. It's awfully hard and uncomfortable to bend, sit, or drive! I have been having fun though tapping the side where her feet are. It's like a little game, I'll tap around and sometimes she'll kick or push out right there and I can rub her feet! I think I will miss when she is on the outside and I am no longer safely carrying her everywhere inside of me. I was lying in bed this morning thinking about how that makes motherhood truly such a special and wonderful thing that you can't imagine if you haven't experienced it. No wonder we bond with baby so much more and have that fierce protective mama-bear syndrome! I was already feeling so protective of her and thinking about when she comes to the outside world, how can we shield her from all sorts of things? #emotionalmamaday

@katiew92081: oh my gosh yes! Baby Girl hiccups on and off almost every single day! It's funny and ticklish too! But I'm glad someone pointed out they could tell baby had turned breech by the location of the hiccups! I can tell she is still head-down that way!

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@shopaholic: Yep, she hiccups so much that I've gotten know know not only that she's upside down, but also which side of my belly she is at and which way she's turned. Right now her little butt is at the top right side, and she's facing the left, lol.

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: I still don't know if she has hiccups. What do they feel like?

  16. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: It's a rhythmic bumping. For about 10 minutes straight I feel like she's knocking on the bottom of my belly. It's evenly spaced out and happens about once a second. It's like she's tapping or something.

  17. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@katiew92081: I feel rhythmic bumping, but it maybe 30 seconds at a time. So I figured that can't be hiccups cause it seems too short.

Or maybe she is a genesis and has already figured out how to make the annoying hiccups go away already

  18. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@smurfette: That's probably hiccups! Yours just may not have them as much as my kiddo. My husband gets hiccups a lot, so I'm wondering if this is something she's inherited from him! lol

I sometimes wonder if I can scare them away from her, but I'm not sure I can, lol. Maybe I can lay down quick or something, haha.

@katiew92081: LOL! Me too! She always "hangs out" on the right - Dr. said that's what babies tend to prefer even though it's more crowded with organs! Her little feet are always on the right side!

We might have actually pulled it off! We might have actually gotten our house! I know there's still paperwork to file, things to do before we're officially closed and have the keys but it looks like we might get the house! 2,500 square feet, here we come!

@katiew92081: @shopaholic: Words cannot describe how excited I am. I'm usually a pessimistic person but my Realtor called me tonight and told me that he'd just gotten off the phone with our latest loan guy. Our last ditch effort to get the financing we need to get this house was approved! In full! So while there's still a lot of paperwork to do, the fact that the guy from the bank told our Realtor that it was practically a done deal? Is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig deal.

Also chalk up my excitement to lack of experience and my age and my hormones

@NaturallyCathy: No you SHOULD be ecstatic! That's awesome!

OMG guys - this other mom I befriended on FB from another board (before I joined HB) just had her baby yesterday at exactly 34 weeks! Baby came super early but in good health! Makes me think I really want to get everything prepped and done within the next 2 weeks so I won't have to stress too much!

P.S. If I can just vent a teeny tiny bit - my usually super-awesome FIL called to tell me some stuff about his big 70th birthday dinner this weekend (which I just found out from DH how much "our portion" will cost and I nearly fainted!) He also wanted me to "bring things I got from our baby shower that we won't need because babies grow so fast" and that he could use them. I was kind of confused, and then he went on to elaborate that we probably got so much stuff at the baby shower that we couldn't possibly use everything and that they have several different baby showers coming up that they need to attend and if I can bring whatever we don't need to them. Anyone else at a loss for words? I called DH at work to tell him and he was like "HA! Yeah right!" I did tell FIL that I've already returned or exchanged everything we didn't need this week. His response was just "no rush!" Ummm...okay.... lol
Not to give you the wrong impression because I do love my FIL and he's typically a very generous guy. It's just so weird right? It's like when my parents used to make me "hurry up and go trick-or-treat" on Halloween so I could bring them back candy to pass out. WTH?

I'm feeling super accomplished today! I just got done typing up a giant "Birth Binder" for my husband and my mom.

It includes important information, phone numbers, driving directions, my takeout orders to various restaurants, medical terminology, my birth plans, labor signs, a form for tracking contractions, strategies for special situations, comfort measures, postpartum information, freezer meals and cooking instructions, baby care forms, cloth diaper laundry instructions... basically everything you could possibly need to know.

  27. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Arden: A woman after my own heart Your attention to detail just blew my dinky little hospital notebook out of the water but I guess I feel like we need less since we've done this before.

    Kudos kudos kudos.

@shopaholic: Yeah, I thought for a moment I was going into early labor last night but turned out to be a false alarm, thank god. According to my doctor, I'm just now 34 weeks despite the fact I keep getting 35 week emails...

And yes, that is a little odd about your FIL. No suggestions here, as I'm always struggling with my ILs. A battle of wills about my son. Long story. I'd let him know that you just had everything you needed and not go into why you don't have extras. After all, you do have everything you need now, by the time he's asked.

  28. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: Yay!! I know what a good feeling that is. Word of advice, start packing now. I already get so worn out. I am popped after packing for an hour and half.

@shopaholic: That is super weird that your FIL asked for your baby stuff to regift!

@Arden: I love the feeling of getting stuff done.

  29. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Smurfette: Good news is we are actually mostly packed. There's our master bedroom, Henry's room, and the kitchen but practically everything else has had to be packed up because we're renovating our current house. We can't have extra knick knacks around because we wouldn't have room to breath, let alone move around, if we did.

So this will be a quick move. We'll just have a few minor repairs at the main house, paint and everything to get done before the move, but then we're there. Which will open up this house to get finished and on the market. Which would be GREAT.

  30. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I am jealous. We have way too much crap. I can't get DH to purge either. I do have a nice pile going on the dining room table for Goodwill. I mean how many wine glasses do we really need?
When are you going to close?

  31. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Smurfette: The closing date was extended from January 15th to the 28th of February. We can close earlier if the bank lets us sort of thing but otherwise, looks like it'll be a race to see which gets here first - the house or the baby! Luckily, my parents and his parents will help us out, regardless of the situation. Everyone's ready to have this done and us settled.

And I totally hear you about DH. When I first moved into our 1300 sq ft house (see picture above), every room was stacked with antique furniture and military memorabilia. I am not even kidding, some of it was stacked to the ceilings. Talk about pack rat! So we've been purging since October and with each room we touch, it gets a little better. Right now his parent's garage and his grandparents garage is full of the stuff we had to get out immediately, just so we could move, once Henry was born.

Which means we get the joy of going through everything again and purging even more at this next house. I've already told him he gets the unfinished basement that runs the length of the house and the garage (he's a mechanic). I get the rest of the house. If he wants something upstairs, we have to agree on it first. No more pack rat! I want a house! Not a museum!

The other good news is that he wants to sell things. After packing a lot of his stuff up, he wants to get things organized and sell the things he doesn't get to use very much anymore (he reenacts) or that isn't worth a lot and turn it towards fixing up his toys - his cars. I'm supportive of that. While I want him to have what he loves, if he can turn it around like he thinks and free up some space? I'm loving it.

  32. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I hope you can get an earlier closing. If not hope baby stays put till after the move. I tell mine all the time, I promise to rest and not stress if she promises to stay in there till March. That gives me a couple weeks to get settled in the house. Then she can come.

My DH's Mom passed away the year before we meet so he has a lot of her stuff. So it is understandable that he still isn't ready to get rid of some stuff. But a lot of it we need to get rid of, not our style. Not to mention we pay $60 a month for a storage unit full of her stuff that he doesn't even want but just don't know what to do with it.

  33. Mrs. Grizzly Bear

    GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts

@Smurfette: Well my husband is seven years my senior. He bought his house after he got married the first time, at nineteen, with the help of his parents. After their divorce, he threw himself and his spare money into his hobbies with a vengeance. So by the time I got to the house, it already held a lot of history for him - literal life history and stuff history. With this new house, we agree that it's a fresh start for both of us. A fresh start for me because for the first time, I get to be in charge of a house instead of coming into one already established (my parent's house, my dorm at college, this current house). I'll get to help make the decisions instead of just going along with the flow. So I'm really stupid excited about getting a new house and being able to truly call it 'my' home, our home and house.

  34. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@NaturallyCathy: I hear you on that. I moved into DH's condo that he was living in before me. We repainted and redid the floors right before I moved in. But it still doesn't feel like my place. I am excited that the house is going to be our house and one we can make decisions on together. Especially since it is the house we are going to bring home our baby girl.

@Smurfette: MY DH's Dada passed when we had only been dating for a month- so we have a bunch of furnature he had bought for DH- and its not really my style... slowly we have been giving it to his siblings- but I really want to get rid of the HUGE dining room table and hutch- but I am still working on that!
