@mrbee: Sorry Mr. Bee. Wasn't trying to cause trouble, just trying to help when I shared links to things. Admittedly, the last post about the house wasn't helpful to anyone except helping explain. Feel free to remove that post.

@shopaholic: glad you found a doctor you like so much! I need to get on that still.
@NaturallyCathy: Ouch! Glad that you, Henry, and baby are ok!! I want to read your blog post later. I know your site is in your profile so I can see it that way.

Hey Ladies!
We just got back from our Baby Saver/CPR class! Another one we were glad to go to! A couple of pics I couldn't resist snapping of DH with our practice robot-baby. It looks like child-abuse but it's proper technique I swear! Glad to know how to do it now, but hope we never have to!
It covered CPR, baby Heimlich, and all sorts of other baby safety issues. Learned a few things such as baby shouldn't ever use a warm humidifier/vaporizer (we received one as a gift - so that's going back!) and that a fan or ceiling fan on low is ideal for circulating air and reduces chance of SIDS, among a lot of other things!

Ugh ladies, I'm so frustrated. My parents came over today to help me put the crib together, but when we took it out of the box, it was totally damaged! Like the back/top was completed cracked and almost falling off!!! So... my parents are going to have to return it and get a new one... hoping to be able to get it in two weeks...
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Adira: That sounds super frustrating! I'm lucky we didn't have a similar problem with Henry's crib - because of the lack of space when he was born, his crib sat at my parent's house for nearly seven months before we finally pulled it out of its box. It was a gift from a family friend at our shower. It could have turned out much differently and then we would have been stuck with Target's return policy!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: wow, that sounds really awful. I hope you get a new one soon! I know how it feels to feel like time is running out!
@shopaholic: Glad you learned some things! I didn't know about the ceiling fan, but that's cool, cause we sleep with it on every night anyways, even in winter, lol. I think I did know about the arm humidifier, though. We have a cool mist one for my son's room. The cool ones are also better for your house.
Ugh, for some reason (well, obviously hormones are the reason) I've had a particularly emotional day. Everything brought me to tears...my son not listening, losing some paperwork we needed...everything. I got to the point that I was driving my poor husband crazy, so he called my mom to come get my son for the afternoon. It helped, and I got the paperwork figured out (not found, but I figured out how to get it again) so I feel slightly better. I still feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat, though, so hubby is steering clear. Usually he's good, but sometimes even he doesn't know what to do with me when I become such a cry baby. These hormones are crazy! I'm annoying myself!
bananas / 9973 posts
@Adira: Oh no! That sucks! I was worried about that too because our crib sat in the box for months before we opened and assembled it. Hopefully you get a replacement easily and quickly!
@katiew92081: Sorry about the hormones. Maybe a nap will help? That's my answer for everything this past week!

@shopaholic: I'm about to go to bed early. As soon as my kid is in bed, I'm right behind him in my own bed!

@shopaholic: What is the reason they gave you for why the humidifier isn't good?
We've been having people constantly tell us to get one (and we live in FL, so we thought it was pretty necessary anyway since it's already so humid here), so it would be nice to have something to tell them!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Arden: I think they just meant a heated humidifier. So long as it's a cool mist humidifier, where the unit doesn't heat up the water before spraying it into the air, it's probably fine.
At least that's what my pediatrician and nurse tell me.
bananas / 9973 posts
@Arden: @NaturallyCathy: Yes. No, they said only for the warm mist/heated humidifiers and vaporizers are not good. Cool Mist is good. I think the warm can exacerbate any kind of Asthma and respiratory issues. The nurse said the only time they really recommend warm steam/mist is in the case of the croup - and she said a few minutes in a steamy bathroom is sufficient for that.
We already have a cool mist humidifier with some UV Germ Killing thing for the nursery too. We don't know who sent us the Warm Vaporizer, but glad I can take that back - one less thing to store!

@Arden: What a BEAUTIFUL pic!!! Is it professional or just your DH took it? The belly is looking perfect!
* Our maternity shoot is cancelled for tomorrow and we have to find a time to re-schedule. There's a 40% chance of rain and been raining on/off the last two days here.

@Adira: OMG, I would be so pissed!! I have been having this fear since our furniture is just sitting in their boxes for a month now, till we move. I hope you get a new one fast!!!
@shopaholic: I had read about the fan. So glad her room already has a fan in it.
@katiew92081: sorry you are having a rough day! I hope tomorrow is better for you!!
@Arden: I posted on the bump thread but this is such a beautiful picture!

On top of the weepy day, I've been dealing with a sour stomach all night. Gross burps and all. I just took a couple Tums and I'm hoping my stomach settles so I can get back to sleep.
watermelon / 14206 posts
I ended up at the hospital today, cause after my stomach issues subsided, I had (still have) a horrible cramping under my ribs. It's apparently just remnants of being sick, but it really sucks. Good news is that kiddo is still inside and was happily kicking the monitors that were strapped onto me.
I just need to rest...as long as I'm laying or sitting I'm fine, but any extra movement, like walking or housework, I can't even breathe. So, sitting it is.
I just keep reminding myself that this will all be over in a couple months and I'll have this wiggly girl on the outside, instead of torturing me from within.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@katiew92081: aww, so sorry you aren't having a good weekend. Hope you get some rest!!!
My shower was wonderful. Baby Smurfette is spoiled. We only got a couple outfits. Both grandmas got us the monitors, so we can return one and get the pack n play. So I think that takes care of most of the big items. She got a St Patricks Day outfit, complete with tutu. Then our friends with a pool got her a coverup and a yellow polka dotted bikini. It is so cute. Got some gift cards too. I feel so much better prepared now. My parents are keeping everything at their house so we don't have to move it twice, and are going to bring to the house on Sunday when Mom comes to paint.
So much was off the registry but they bought on amazon or target. So everyone still having showers, don't stress when you don't see things bought off the registry.

@katiew92081: Sorry about your trip to the hospital! Hope you feel better soon! I'm feeling totally uncomfortable 24/7 this weekend. Can't sleep. Can't sit. Tired.
@Smurfette: YAY for Baby Smurfette being spoiled and having a wonderful shower! See! Nothing to worry about! Yay for the monitor & the PnP! I'm glad you got or will be able to get most everything you need!

@smurfette: yay for a great shower!
@shopaholic: maybe its the full moon? Makes everything crazy lol

Okay, I'm finally catching up from the weekend!
@katiew92081: Ugh, that sucks about the sugar issue. Children that young do not need soda and all that candy!! It's just not good for their teeth and will lead to weight issues. That sucks that your MIL and his father don't really get it!
Booo - sorry about the crazy hormones! I definitely have felt more emotional lately too - I cry over the stupidest crap (and my weird dreams tend to make me cry even more)!
Oh my gosh, so sorry about your hospital visit!!! That would totally freak me out being as pregnant as we are! I'm glad baby's doing okay though - that's a relief. I hope you feel better soon.
@shopaholic: I've been just as exhausted! I got up yesterday and had a productive morning, but by noon, I was ready to crash! I took a nap on the couch.
That's awesome about the pediatrician you met with!!! Sounds like he was really helpful and gave you some good advice! It's always a relief when you find a doctor you like!
Ooooh, thanks for the tip about a ceiling fan! Our nursery actually has one, so I guess I'll use it! We had our CPR class about a month ago, but they definitely didn't talk about stuff like that!
Sorry about your maternity photos having to be rescheduled! I'm HOPEFULLY getting mine does this weekend, but not professionally. I'm having my best friend come over and while her daughter is taking her afternoon nap, I'm going to put her to work, haha. We'll see how it comes out. Hopefully the weather clears up for you and you're able to get your photos done soon!
@NaturallyCathy: Oh my gosh, sorry about your fall!!! Glad you're okay and baby is okay! Falling is one of my biggest fears now that I'm huge like a whale! I would probably tell your husband about the fall, but just make it really clear that no one was hurt and he doesn't need to freak out.
@Arden: Oh my gosh, I LOVE that bump picture of you in the sun!!! That's so gorgeous!! That's the kind of picture I'd want to get printed I think!
@Smurfette: So glad your shower went well and you got a ton of items that you need!!! Besides the Pack N' Play, do you feel like there's anything else you're missing that you need to get before the baby comes?
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Nope we still need a lot. Need changing pad cover, mattress pad liner, bath tub, wipes, newborn diapers (only have size 1), burp cloths, car seat protectors (we have leather seats in both cars), boppy covers, and then everything for nursing. We have one set of bottles, so going to just see how those work before I buy anymore. So while mostly small stuff, it is going to add up. We have some gift cards at multiple places, so hopefully I can buy it all on the gift cards.
That is all I think we need anyway, I am sure it will be more once I get everything unpacked and get her room settled.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, you just reminded me that we also need newborn diapers - we only have size 1 as well. I was actually surprised by the LACK of diapers we got at our shower - we got 3 packs and that was it.
Ugh, I feel like there's still so much stuff to get and so little time! I'm worried I won't get everything I need before the baby shows up! We probably want to get a lot of the nursing stuff BEFORE going into labor, right? So that we have it at the hospital? Ugh.
Also, I forgot to mention, but I'm 35/35 today!!! 35 weeks and 35 days left! I know it's not really a meaningful milestone, but it's still exciting!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Yeah I have some nursing bras that a friend let me borrow. Hoping to just use those till my milk comes in and I know what size to get for sure. My SIL still hasn't mailed me my Motherhood gift card that she supposedly got me for Christmas and wasn't here in time. I wanted to use it for nursing tanks. We will see if she ever mails it. I feel weird asking her about it. Guess I will just chalk it up to, another Christmas and I get the shaft from her.
That is so exciting 35/35!! Time is FLYING by. Our babies are going to be here before we know it.
Another thought, I haven't bought anything yet either for postpartum recovery for me. Need to start a list for all that stuff too.
We picked out the paint color for her room yesterday! Can't wait to close on Friday and get started this weekend.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I have a couple nursing tanks I'm going to use until I know what size bra I actually need, but I'm wondering if I should get some nipple cream or pads or anything too for the hospital when I first start nursing. I just don't know!!
Ugh, I also haven't gotten anything for postpartum recovery either. What do we need, haha? I was thinking I'd buy a package of underwear that I don't care about to make sure I don't ruin any of my nice undies. And I want to pick up a package of overnight pads (like Always probably). Is there anything else we need...?
That's exciting you picked out a paint color! What's it look like??
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I know there have been past posts/threads on HB about PP. I need to search for those and make my list. Definitely underwear that you don't care about and pads. I think squirt bottle, stool softener, and other things like that to make your parts feel better.
It is called Mushroom Bisque, just a tan/neutral color. Then going to reuse the chocolate brown curtains we have in our living room now in the nursery. Then going to use pink accents everywhere else. I found a rug I need to order as well. I just want to see the furniture in the room and measure that is the size we want/need.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, good call about the squirt bottle and stool softener! Ugh, so much to think about!!!
Oh my gosh, pinks and browns go soooooo well together. I think doing the tan walls and chocolate curtains with pink accents sounds really elegant! You'll have to post a picture once it's all setup!

@adira: Re: Nursing pads: Lansinoh are the BEST nursing pads. I have 3 boxes on my registry. I loved them when I was nursing my son.
I would bring a nursing bra that's one cup bigger than your regular size...at least for the hospital. Cause, once your milk comes in, you'll have some incredible breasts, until you get your supply established. If it's too big in the hospital, don't worry about it, cause it's just the hospital and you don't need to look pretty there, haha. I wold also get the first bra at Walmart or something, before investing in a more expensive bra that doesn't fit well. Once your size is established, then go for the pricier ones.
Wow, 35! I'm officially 33 today, which seems crazy. Only 6 days until my next no-preemie goal, and 3 weeks until my 36 weeks goal. Of course, 37 weeks is my ultimate goal, but after this weekend, I told this girl that after 36 weeks, if she feels ready she's welcome to come, haha. She'll probably go overdue, just to make me miserable.
I gotta buy all the post partum stuff, too. I have some undies that don't get much use cause I think they're big and ugly, but I might buy a pack of full coverage ones in addition to them.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: You're so close to 34 weeks and your next goal!!! Hopefully baby girl just stays put until 40 weeks (or at least 37+), haha! You're doing so well though, so I think you're going to be fine!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: I think so, too. I've also stopping worrying about it for the most part, partially thanks to my husband. We're pretty much of the mindset now that if she comes tomorrow, she'll be ok and so will we. But I think she's in it til the end.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@NaturallyCathy: that's nice that your sister is able to come just in time! We did that for my SIL when my nephew was born. It was fun to get the call and run to the airport.
@Adira: 2 hours away is a good distance in my opinion. easy to come for a day visit, but far enough that they can't just drop in unexpectedly our families are 8 and 10 hours by car.
@Smurfette: I totally hear you about being comfortable, or not, when other people are around. I think we are going to take your model and have a few days for just the three of us to start to get used to the baby and then have people come over.
@katiew92081: good idea to have practical help with dinner and such, as opposed to a bunch of family sitting around staring at you and the baby. that's what i'm worried about too! i'm not going to be focusing on making them comfortable.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@aprk: When I had my son, my mom cooked went grocery shopping and stocked my fridge full of stuff that I could just pop in the microwave or oven and eat.
I worry that my MIL would be the opposite of helpful, while trying to be helpful. There's helpful...and then there's in the way.
I don't even need as much help with the baby as I will with my son. He's pretty independent, but I still don't want him to feel like he's been put on the back burner. Time alone with gramma and grandpa would probably be great for him.
I know women that have had people come and stay after they have a baby and then get offended when they don't get properly entertained. That would drive me crazy.
watermelon / 14206 posts
I'm so excited...I'm taking my son to the circus on Friday! It's a big thank you for being so helpful and understanding during this pregnancy. I'm not telling him about it until Thursday night (at least I hope I can hold it in that long), so that he doesn't act crazy all week getting impatient over it, lol.
pomegranate / 3452 posts
@katiew92081: I have a similar worries of "helpfulness" about visitors other than my mother. I also am sure I will be feeling hormonal and crazy and exhausted and won't want to have to temper my feelings around the in-laws, etc ...
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Adira: Funny thing. My husband never freaks out. He's more likely to say (and he did say) 'Well that explains it...' He's very attuned to something bothering me and when he came home, I was grumpy because my hips and arm were hurting. He didn't comment on it, just tried to make me happy. When I finally told him what was wrong, he frowned a little and said 'Well, that explains it' and handed me the last chocolate chip cookie. I love that man...
@aprk: I'm glad she's coming because she's going to help keep me from strangling my MIL...
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Oh my gosh, that's so fun!!! Your son is going to love that!!!
@NaturallyCathy: Now I want a cookie...
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Adira: You and me both, sweetie. I don't have anything I need to make cookies though... Which is a bummer. But I had a molten brownie covered in vanilla ice cream and caramel and chocolate sauce last night. So I shouldn't be craving anything at this point!

@Adira: I think I have everything I need for postpartum except stool softeners. I have a lavette bottle, dermoplast, pads, granny panties, nipple cream, breast pads, sitz bath, bath soaking crystals (Bella B Postpartum Bath)... I'm not sure what else I would need.
