Looks like we're going to the circus Saturday instead of Friday. DH told me yesterday that he should go, too, because he doesn't want me "walking around uptown Charlotte ready to pop." I think what he really wanted to say is, "I wanna go, too!!!" lol
So, it's a family day on Saturday. DS is going to be so happy!

@katiew92081: Aww, awesome! That will be so fun! And even with just 20 people, you may find you get more than you expected. I was kind of expecting just one or two things from each person at mine, but people seem to love shopping for baby stuff, so I got a lot more than I thought I would! Of course, not all of it was useful items... haha.

Yay!!! Hubs Step-Mom just purchased the Ergo off our registry!! One less thing I have to buy!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@adira: Whoo hoo! I haven't even registered for a baby carrier, cause I haven't even gotten around to figuring out which one is good. I have a feeling it's going to be a last minute purchase!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: haha, I know what you mean. I added the Ergo based on some of the reviews from the Bees, but who knows if there are better! And you may want a wrap instead of something structured. And with the Ergo, you'd have to get the infant insert as well unless you weren't going to use it right away. I figure we probably won't use ours immediately anyway, so we were okay not getting it right away.

@adira: My problem is that I'm short and my have larger breasts. So, anything sturdy wouldn't be good, and it can't be too long. I may get an Evenflo from Walmart, start from there, trying them on and returning them until I get the right one, haha. I ordered a convertible car seat, so it's actually pretty important. Not sure why I'm stalling, lol. Just hard to try on stuff with the belly here.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@katiew92081: Yeah, the belly makes it tough to try on anything! Or really do anything... Just get something from a store with a good return policy so that if it doesn't work out, you can return or exchange it!

@adira: Yep, I'll start with the cheapest and work my way up, lol

I have a Baby Bjorn that was a gift before Henry was ever born. He didn't seem to care for it but I didn't try sticking him in it very often, so I think it's mostly fault. My MIL and SIL swear by the Moby, which I'm not too fond of. I'm not comfortable twisting it to make it work.

@katiew92081: That is great about your shower. And even better about family day at the circus!! Your son is going to have a blast.

@katiew92081: @NaturallyCathy: I got a Baby K'tan based on lots of reviews, and (although I've only practiced with a bag of flour, so I can't attest to a baby) -- I love it so far! It's less structured than a carrier but simpler and less wrapping than a Moby/sling. There are only a few wraps and not a ton of fabric. I really like it!

@keepcalmcarrie: Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out, since it looks like they have it in stock nearby.

@keepcalmcarrie: Glad to hear. I got a Ktan as well. I haven't opened it yet, but my cousin's all loved theirs.

We went to a baby store and the saleswoman showed us how to use the Boba wrap. It looks intimidating since it's just one long piece of fabric, but it's super easy once you try it! We went with that over the K'tan so both my husband and I could use it. Otherwise, we'd need different sized carriers.
We also plan on getting a Beco Gemini for longer-term carrying on the front, back and hip.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: I may have to look into that. Since I'll be running after Henry as well as dealing with this LO, I'm going to need something I can put the babe in easily and not worry about. I'd rather wrap them close but at the same time, I have to make sure they're safe. But I will definitely need more hands free!

@Smurfette: Target marks their clearance every monday (just found that out yesterday!)...so if you or your SO has time, be sure to swing by Target on monday mornings to see if you can find any deals. good luck!

Hey everyone! I keep getting so behind on this thread. As usual, I am glad to see that everyone is doing well (and everyone's bump looks great).
It's been pretty busy here, especially in the last week or so. We had our second pre-baby party, and we got some great stuff both on and off our registry. We met and chose a pediatrician. We are pretty much finished with the nursery. My husband and I also celebrated our first wedding anniversary last night! The only bummer is that I have been pretty sick with a cold since Friday. (I haven't been this sick this often since I used to teach 110+ high school students!)
I'm 35w2d today, and I woke up feeling like the baby had dropped a bit. I don't know if it's in my head, but my husband said that my bump does look lower. We'll see!
In terms of baby carriers, we are going to borrow an Ergo and a Beco Gemini. I tried out the Boba, but I ended up buying a Baby K'tan on sale. I highly recommend trying on the K'tan before buying it since the sizing can be a bit weird; my husband and I both wear the small. I'm attaching a pretty goofy picture of how I had to test it.

@mole: Aww you look so cute!! I need to try on a ktan before I open mine to make sure I have the right size. Just not sure where to try it on at?
honeydew / 7589 posts
@mole: Aw, cute pic! I have the eggplant k-tan too, also in small. I'm hoping it will work, it seems a tad big and I'm afraid I might need the xs. We'll see. I kept the packaging in case I need to exchange it.
@cokiezombie: That's good to know! I'll have to remember to drop by Target on Mondays.
I have my Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid class tonight! I don't know how long it's going to be, but hopefully not too long or I won't get home till after 10PM. *yawn*

@mole: Oh my gosh, WHAT is that thing you have in the Baby K'tan??? Also, I love your shower curtains.
apricot / 373 posts
@Smurfette: Aww thanks! I bought mine on Nobetterdeal.com, but I used this website to find a store where I could try it on in person: http://www.babyktan.com/stores.html
It would be much easier to try on without the belly, but I was able to get a decent idea about which size I was going to be post-pregnancy.

@Smurfette: The Wave is exactly how I describe it to DH and friends too! It's no longer usually just giving, but like a whole swimming/floppy motion!
@NaturallyCathy: I actually love to sit in our glider chair! Will have to remember that next time I'm uncomfortable!
@katiew92081: I can technically still wear all my rings, but in the past few days I've stopped wearing my anniversary ring because it has grooves on the edges and it's thicker which make it a little harder to take off sometimes, and I've gone down from 3 rings to 2 rings on my left hand.
@Adira: I posted a question about NB diapers last week. We got 3 packages totaling 142 diapers. I was wondering if that seemed like too much, but ALL the responses were basically that gives me ~ a 2 week supply and I probably would need a little more! I'm comfortable with that number for now though because I'm assuming our baby will be a little below average in size.
@katiew92081: That's great on your registry gifts getting purchased! It's nice when people know that practical gifts are more helpful, even if they are not as fun to buy. Are you getting really excited for it this weekend? Have fun registry stalking this week! Circus & a shower - looks like you're going to have a busy weekend!
@Adira: That's awesome you got the Ergo off the registry! Whoo hoo big ticket items! I originally wanted the Beco because it looks smaller and probably fit better on my smaller frame. But we tested the Ergo at a baby boutique and it seemed very stable and fit DH well. Since I want us to baby carry on our trip this summer, I figured it's better that we can both wear it.
@keepcalmcarrie: I got the Baby K'tan as well! I think it seems a lot easier to use and less fabric than the Moby (though I did get a used one of that from a HB'er too).
@mole: Glad to "see" you! Yay on your showers and getting all sorts of stuff you need! Doesn't settling on the pediatrician seem like a great accomplishment? lol! I don't know why, but I felt so good about it, even though I never realized it was something to do before the Dr. mentioned it! Happy 1st anniversary and hope you are getting better! I love your demonstration of the K'tan! I registered and received a Small, but based on a lot of HB'ers in a recent post, I think I need to size down? How tall are you and what size in general? I think I'm kind of in-between, but wouldn't want a sagging newborn. LOL!
apricot / 373 posts
@Arden: I generally wore size 6-8 at stores like Gap before pregnancy, so I don't know if that helps with your sizing decision!
@Adira: Haha. It's a stuffed doll version of a video game character. (My husband works for the company that makes the game.) It's the only thing that we had even remotely close to baby-size/shape.
@shopaholic: Thanks so much! It does feel great to check things off the list (even the tiny things at this point). I imagine that you might need the xsmall in the K'tan if I am remembering your size and height correctly! I'm 5'7" and pre-pregnancy wore 6s and 8s.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@shopaholic: Oooh, thanks for the tip about the NB diapers! I didn't even really think about how much we'd end up going through, but I guess you do go through a lot in a day, right? I think you change them with every feeding, or roughly that much, so that'd be 8-12 a day!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@mole: Ohhhh, hahaha. I could tell it was some sort of stuffed animal or something, but couldn't figure out what it was!
honeydew / 7589 posts
@mole: Hmm. I'm 5'4" and wore a 4 pre-preg, so maybe I do need the XS? Meh.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Ooooh, according to FedEx, my new crib has arrived at my parent's house! Maybe that means they can bring it over on Sunday!
persimmon / 1096 posts
I'm 5'5" and wore 4/6 pre-preg... I ordered a small though. There are a lot of hefty babies in my family, and I'd rather have it a little loose than too tight, We'll see if it works!
My husband is 6'4," 250, so there is no way the small K'tan will work for him too He's probably going to use the Snugli carrier my mom kept from when I was a baby!

@NaturallyCathy: It's a Rammus! http://www.jinx.com/p/league_of_legends_rammus_plush_toy_with_sound.html
@Arden: You might? I have to say that the hardest thing about the K'tan is the sizing (and provides some argument for the Boba).
@Adira: Yay! How exciting!
@keepcalmcarrie: That's great that your baby will be carried around in the same carrier that you were!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@mole: It's like creepy/cute/cool. The spikes are a little intimidating (even plushy!) but it's so frickin' cute. I just wanna hug it.

@aprk: haha, seriously!
I just booked my prenatal massage FINALLY! Hubs got me a gift certificate for Christmas and I'm finally getting around to actually using it, haha. My massage is next Wednesday - so excited!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Hope this one is A-ok! I booked mine today as well. DH said that I should have booked it earlier but going on the 16th, since that is the weekend after the move. Figure after unpacking for a week I will need it.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: haha, yeah, I feel like I should have booked mine earlier too, then I could have maybe had two of them! But I'll be happy with just the one! And I think scheduling yours for the weekend after the move is a good idea - that's when you'll really need it!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I thought about that too. I could just get another one, but we really can't afford another with the new house stuff. When the I was scheduling it the lady asked if I was ok with a guy doing it. I said yes. Never had a guy do my massage before. Now I am wondering if I should have, first time and I am going to feel like a whale at 36 weeks. But I got the feeling that day and for prenatal they only had guys available.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh, interesting! They didn't even tell me who would be doing mine when I scheduled it, so I just assumed it was going to be a woman, but I don't actually know!!! Guess I'll find out in a week... Hopefully you'll feel comfortable having a guy give you your massage!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I hope so too. I am sure by that point I won't care who does it, just going to need it. She did say that he is the one that trains most of the others, so sounds like he is one of the better ones. Maybe the added bonus will be I get to look at some eye candy too
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: hahaha, I hope he's good looking for you! Although that would just intimidate me and make me feel insecure, haha. I'd need some ugly guy to give me a massage I think.
Speaking of massages - what is appropriate for tips? I've never had a massage before, so I don't know what's normal. My massage is going to be an hour and costs roughly $80 if that helps you guys give me advice.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I usually do 20%. DH said that he paid for my tip when he bought the gift certificate, so I have no idea what he paid this time. Or even how they are going to know it was paid already.
