We did our anatomy scan yesterday. . . and it's a boy. We are only having two, so we were disappointed when we first heard since we already have a little boy.

I feel awful feeling that way but in my mind, although I say we would like either, I had always pictured myself with at least one daughter to do and talk girly things with.

But the more I thought about it, the better it sounds. Our son is the sweetest boy so it would be great to have another. We also watched the movie Christmas Story this morning and I think the new baby will be a fun addition to our family.

Here's our updated list! Sorry to keep updating this so frequently, but I'll forget what people are having if I don't!

@chanada: I think that is a VERY normal feeling for people who find out they are having a second of the same gender. Congrats on your little boy!

@rrachael: congrats on your scan & learning about your !!

Our scan went well today, too! Baby girl was wiggling around a lot!! I couldn't help but cry tears of joy to see her. We just got home from traveling, so haven't made a single plan for NYE, & honestly, I'm floating after our u/s & don't even care it's NYE.

@GoGoSnoGirl: congratulations on the great scan. It is so wonderful to see them moving around on the ultrasound!

@SeptMomma12: thank you for updating the list! So exciting to see it all filling in.

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted here in a while! I really didn't flake out on you...I actually got my feelings hurt by another May mama who was super rude to me in another thread a while back, and I honestly just didn't feel comfortable posting here much for a while. Nothing like that has really ever bothered me, it's just the internet! But this individual just did for whatever reason...Preg hormones maybe (shrugs). Whatevs...I'm very honest in general so I couldn't really hide my reasoning behind a "Been real busy!" It is what it is.

But I missed the comradery of the rest of you ladies so I just wanted to check in

Congrats to everyone who now knows the gender! So excited for everyone!

I feel like getting into January is putting things super close! I'll be induced on 4-27....I had been saying that I was waiting until after the holidays to get everything together for the nursery and to decorate it and my DD1's big girl bedroom. So I went from having nothing to do, to feeling like I have a lot to accomplish in the next few months!

I am 23 weeks and some days...I hit 24 weeks in a few days and I'm really excited about hitting viability. I'll admit to not paying as much attention to this pregnancy but I am truly excited for DD2 to actually have a shot if something happens anytime soon. Although I have a feeling she is just going to stay put until we chase her out at my induction.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Here's my huge, almost viable bump:) I wasn't this big until I was like 31 weeks with DD1.

@PrincessBaby: glad you are checking back in! Looks like you are progressing fabulously. Yay for viability so very soon!

I know what you mean about mentally pushing things off because "it's not until next year..."

Over Christmas I got to spend time with some of my family that I don't see very often. My aunt was telling me how she had my cousin on the mainland USA and then moved back to the Virgin Islands for five months. They lived in a little place that had a gas generator for electricity and rain barrels for water. She cloth diapered for five months without running water.
(fwiw the year was 1989, not 1889...)

Anyone else get any good "back in my day" stories over the holidays?

@MsHangry: Thank you! That is CRAZY! Kind of puts it in perspective that my to-do list is picking out fabric for a custom bumper that matches the painting that I bought for the nursery which everything will be coordinated around - haha....We're so lucky in this day and age:)

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

Just as a side note, I fell in love with and purchased this Winborg sisters canvas...And it's the whole inspiration for DD2's nursery (doing aqua and pink accents since I already have a light pink PBK rug I'd like to keep using)...I want to paint the walls a super light aqua like the first photo, and am getting DD1's nursery furniture painted Annie Sloan pure white. I fell in love with a fabric for a custom bumper in an aqua print that I'll attach a photo of me holding the swatch for next to the canvas in the baby store, but it was discontinued when I tried to order it, so I'm still looking for something I like as much....

@PrincessBaby: That's gorgeous! I can't wait to know for sure what we are having on Tuesday so I can start thinking nursery too

@MsHangry: That's insane! My son was just a few weeks old during Hurricane Sandy and one night of trying to change diapers with a flashlight was enough "roughing it" for us. As soon as the storm stopped, we moved to my in-laws for 2 weeks until we had our power back!!!

@PrincessBaby: I love that painting! We did dd1's nursery in Aqua and pink and I had that painting pinned for a while! We ended up not getting it but I still love it Dd's nursery is my favorite room in the house ... I kind of want to keep it the same for this little one and just move dd1 to a new, big girl room

@rrachael: Oh how cool that you did pink and aqua!!! There is a local baby store that had it on display and when I saw it, it was like a lightning bolt hit me, and I knew that was it. It's a little annoying that they charge so much for their prints, since they're mass-produced prints that are just nicely done on canvas. I mean, it LOOKS like a painting, with their signature at the bottom, but anyone could get one. With that being said, I loved it and that was it - done deal and had to be purchased. I also love some of the other prints on the Winborg sisters' website Oopsy Daisy (but I guess these are other artists), I will probably end up buying one of the ballerina prints for DD1's big girl room:)

@PrincessBaby: Thanks! This will also be the start of regular cervical measurements because of the crazy contractions I have, so I'm relieved to get those started. It sucks to be only 20 weeks pregnant and feeling contractions every few mins, even if they aren't "real"

ETA: You have me googling Winborg Sisters now. Their stuff is gorgeous!

@SeptMomma12: So your doc is checking you out more thoroughly since you've been having more BH than normal (sorry if I missed this on this or another thread). I've also been having a TON! I don't know if I should worry or not. The other night I tracked them and was having one every 7-10 minutes or so.

@PrincessBaby: Yay! welcome back. Sorry about whatever scuffle you referred to, but glad you're back with us :). I love that print! And the colors. I also don't understand why they charge so much. I was looking at sharon montrose animal prints thinking I'd get a huge one for above the crib, but hello $950~ I wish! Now I need other ideas.

@Mrs squirreld: congratulations on your girl!! How exciting!!

@SeptMomma12: Excited to hear about your scan!!

  27. SeptMomma12

@Mrs. Lovejoy: They diagnosed me during my first pregnancy with an "irritable uterus" and eventually put me on bed rest at 28 weeks when a visit to L&D showed consistent contractions every 2-3 mins. They were really concerned about pre-term labor, but my cervix never changed and LO stayed in there for another 3.5 weeks after I got off bed rest. So they've told me if the contractions happen this time (which they have - but not anywhere near that frequent yet, fingers crossed!) that they will monitor the cervix just to be sure they're not causing any changes, but do everything we can to avoid bed rest.

From what I understand, more frequent (and earlier) BH are not abnormal with a second pregnancy, but it might be worth mentioning to the doctor. I haven't seen my OB since 16 weeks, so I'm interested to see what they have to say about it tomorrow.

    Aren't they SO annoying?!?

  28. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@SeptMomma12: Oh, interesting!! And ugh, bedrest. I honestly can't imagine. But I'm so glad they are doing what they can to not have you endure it again! Yes, those BH can be quite a nuisance. I couldn't do anything to shake them the other day. But, I had also worked out previously and that seems to be the trigger on days I get a lot of them.

  29. PrincessBaby

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

@Mrs squirreld: Congrats on your girl!!! And thanks for starting the nursery thread:)

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Thank you! Woah, $950! I think I paid $260 or something for DD's canvas and I was complaining about that , lol...

For the second time moms, do you have any new gear you need or want to upgrade/replace? And what are you doing about stroller/double stroller?

I am definitely getting one of the Keekaroo changing pads so I don't have to wash covers..

And I don't think I'm going to get a double stroller right away...I'm just going to see how it goes. I have an UppaBaby Vista and I think I will add the rumble seat and the kick board for DD1 to hop on. She doesn't like to use the stroller often, but sometimes it really comes in handy when we coerce her into it and get to push her around and catch a little break from keeping up with her!

Oh and I've been having a good ol' time looking at matching outfits for my DDs...And coming home from the hospital "Big sister" "Little sister" stuff on Etsy!

My DD just got this Minnie smocked dress and I got the matching bubble for DD2:)

And love these for coming home from the hospital fun:)

@PrincessBaby: we only have a bob that we use for working out so we have no intentions of getting a double. Super cute matching clothes!

  32. PrincessBaby

    cantaloupe / 6610 posts

@jetsa: A bob is probably the double I'd get if I ever get one...It's just such a wiiiiiiide load and I don't know how much use I'd get out of it. Do you like yours?

Oh wait, I thought you meant you had the double bob lol

  33. SeptMomma12

    pear / 1849 posts

@PrincessBaby: We are undecided what we're going to do about the stroller. We have the Britax B-Ready, which does convert to a double, but we don't like the way the seats go, so we're thinking of selling that and getting a City Select, which seems to have better seating options. But I'm also wondering if we'll really use it enough to make it worth it. I wonder how much longer DS is going to willingly sit in a stroller.

I think that's it for gear, though to be honest I haven't really thought about it yet. I am procrastinating this one so bad!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: My trigger seems to be my position - like if I lay flat on my back at all, it happens immediately. With my first, it was happening all day by this point. So far with this one - fingers crossed!!! - it only seems to get bad late at night, which is probably just a sign my body is tired.

  34. SeptMomma12

    pear / 1849 posts

    @PrincessBaby: Those outfits are adorable!

  35. rrachael

    kiwi / 506 posts

@jetsa: We are going to get a double bob because dh loves to run with our single one now and because we go to the zoo a lot and the stroller has been the best thing there for hauling gear and for naps! They are super wide though, so I don't see taking them shopping.

I hate the double strollers that are stacked! I get the practicality but I feel so bad for whoever gets the bottom ... I don't think we will be purchasing one of those.

The only other new gear I want is a cosleeper. I ended up pulling dd1 into my bed out of exhaustion and it took a while to break the habit. I'm hoping a cosleeper might help me avoid that this time ...

  36. Mrs squirreld

    nectarine / 2522 posts

@SeptMomma12: @jetsa: @Mrs. Lovejoy: @PrincessBaby: Thanks Ladies... I think it has sunk in a bit more today. So weird to think I will have a daughter.
@PrincessBaby: I don't think there is much to upgrade replace in terms of gear here. We aren't getting a new/double stroller as to be honest we don't use it that much as we babywear ALOT. I did have my heart set on the baby jogger city select with two seats, but I just can't justify the price for how little we will use it ( we currently have a city mini so we might just get the kick board for that). We will get E a new carseat and the baby will have his current one which is less than 6 months old anyway. We will get an extra camera for our monitor so we can see both kids and as far as big stuff goes I think that is it. Unless I'm missing something more obvious!

How is everyone going with names.... our top two contenders at the moment are Iris & Violet. Dh & I love both so we probably won't decide til she is born...and we might find more names between now and then!

  37. MsHangry

    apricot / 422 posts

@Mrs squirreld: love Iris and Violet for girl names!
@PrincessBaby: so many cute pictures! Print is gorgeous, I can see it 'growing' with your little one even into adulthood. Also, those coordinated outfits are so cute.

First child for us, stroller choices are overwhelming enough that I'm glad I don't have to worry about doubles just yet! We are moving in the summer, so I'd like to wait to get a nice stroller until I know where we'll be and how I'd like to use it. I will probably register for one of those strollers the car seat locks into for the newborn stage.

@PrincessBaby: I *love* your nursery inspiration. Those photos are gorg. And we have an UPV and we use the rumbleboard with my 4 year old niece! We're just going to turn the vista into a double when we need it. Lucie's List says it's not the best double stroller but i'll be damned if i'm replacing it!

New gear wise, I'm going to get an arm's reach co-sleeper. I only have about 22" of clearance between our bed and the wall and I'd like to start out using a flat surface, not the RnP, this time. And they are only 20" wide so I think it'll be a good option for us until that Ikea comes to town and we can move him into a proper bedroom (once he's sleeping well, anyways). Also some bath towels and a dresser/cubby of some kind and a crib eventually, but I'm going with Ikea stuff. I've been really happy with E's so far.

@Mrs squirreld: I looove Violet. So pretty

We still aren't sure on names over here, but we aren't digging too hard, either. I prefer traditional boy names but they don't jump out at me as much as girl names.

  39. chanada

    cherry / 147 posts

Congratulations on all those little girls and boys!

@Mrs squirreld: Iris and Violet are both pretty names. I also find it easier to think of names for girls. We want to pick a somewhat unique but not too out there name for our little boy but it's definitely harder than for girl names.

@PrincessBaby: Great ideas for the nursery. I'm trying to think of something for for my two boys.

@SeptMomma12: I'm getting more excited about the idea of two boys. I think it would be a fun experience for them to share a room together as long as the don't wake each other up all the time and fight!

Anyone else thinking of shared rooms?

Hi Ladies!!! I'm so behind, once again… So a huge congrats to all you mamas who have found out whether you're having a or ! I've been following along, just haven't found the time to write. I always get a bit intimidated to start writing once I fall a couple pages behind lol
@PrincessBaby: Your bump is so beautiful!!! I have been trying to wait patiently for mine to come but at this point I'm getting a little impatient of just feeling chubby rather than having a nice round baby bump. I think I'm still going to have a few weeks of waiting ahead of me. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow (yay half way!) and I can tell there is definitely a little bulge happening but no "pop" yet. Also, I'm thinking about getting the Keekaroo as well. I really want it in the grey that you have pictured but I don't think we can get it in Canada.
@Mrs squirreld: Congrats on your little girl!!! Both names are very beautiful. Also, thank you so much for keeping the list updated! It's so exciting seeing all the little boys and girls go up. I'm feeling a a bit lonely as one of the only lol Are there any others?

I've been feeling the baby move for a few weeks already but DH felt it for the first time on Jan 1st. It was such an incredible feeling.

We go for our ultrasound on Jan 23. I'll be 22 weeks..I'm sad that I have to wait an extra two weeks but I guess they couldn't fit me in any sooner. I was hoping that we would get to go right at 20 weeks. We are so excited to see our little babe for the first time!

We also have a meeting set up to talk to a couple of doulas next week. I know the one lady already as I go to her for prenatal massage (she was also my sitters doula) but am looking forward to meeting her partner. Is anyone else having a doula? Have you had one in the past? Did you have a good experience?
