@BabyPenguinXO: yes, those gowns were awesome! And so easy to nurse in. And I agree, I also have the boppy, but went to a few nursing groups after I delivered that had the breast friend (stupidest name!) pillow and much preferred it. It was just so much more structured and helpful!

Y'all's hospital gowns must be way better than ours. Ours are open back and just uncomfortable, last time I was in sweats an hour after having my son.

I'm home from my work trip thank goodness. I'm exhausted, it's amazing how a little effort puts me out

@jetsa: ours were open back too, but they had these light (and short sleeve) robes that went over them. So the two of them together were a dynamic duo

Glad you are home! Hopefully now you can rest up in your last few weeks of pregnancy!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: ahh no, no robes here thanks I'm so glad to be back!

@PrincessBaby: I'm going to TRY to go unmedicated, but I'm keeping and open mind because I don't know how I'm going to feel.

I'm sooooo uncomfortable and ready to get this baby out! Tomorrow is the day! So excited! By Friday we'll have a son

@macintosh: Yay! Do you start with cervidil tomorrow night? I had an unmedicated induction last time, you can do it!

  7. macintosh

    pear / 1750 posts

@jetsa: I'm going in at 8 am to start maybe cytotec or maybe just pitocin. Midwife didn't think I'd need cervadil since I'm starting to dilate so they moved it up from 8 pm to 8 am.

  8. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@macintosh: Ahh okay. I had cerevdil at 1am and then pitocin at 9am! I had my son at 2:50pm less than 6 hours after beginning pit but I had high BP which they say makes labor quicker. Good luck, you will do great and at the end you are no longer pregnant...and have that wonderful kiddo as well

    @macintosh: Good luck!!!!

@jetsa: omg an unmedicated induction. I hit my limit with pitocin with E around 9cm. That shit is brutal. I'd really like to go into labor on my own this time so I can compare the two! I'm super curious!!!!

@blackbird: I would also love to compare the two though at this point, I'm over it enough that if my midwife recommends an induction I'll go with that too. I asked for an epi at 2 points during labor last time. The first time I had a natural-minded nurse come in and say try to just melt into the pain and cheesily enough it worked. The second time I asked I was in transition and did not realize it, and so before I could get the epi it was time to push. I'm not a fan of needles and the hospital was going to make my DH leave during the epi so I really didn't want it.

  14. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@Mrs. Lovejoy: ha thanks. See my reply above I did ask for pain meds twice it just did not happen.

  15. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@jetsa: wooooo boy. I had a doula who coached me through most of it but I asked for mine after my water broke, KNOWING i wanted an epi before transition. Yeah. asked for it during shift change. got it an hour later after transitioning DURING its placement, heh. but i still had to dilate to a 10 (which took awhile) and then pushed for 2.5 hours (which is probably b/c of the epidural?). Once the dr came in, she got it placed within 2 or 3 contractions, though! i can't believe they were going to make your DH leave! They made mine sit down and not look, though. Said more men pass out from seeing that giant needle go in, lol

I know if i hit 40 weeks, my dr will schedule me for an induction around 41.....but I think i'll try a breast pump out first and see if that puts me into labor. If not, so be it, and I'll do it again, I guess

  16. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@blackbird: I pushed for 2 hours as well. My contractions went from 2-3 mins apart to 8-10 it was ridiculous, my DH and the nurses were literally discussing food and such between pushes. Hospital policy was that no one could be in the room, I'm delivering somewhere else this time so idk what their policy is but I felt so great immediately afterwards last time that I want to make it through again lol.

  17. Mrs. Lovejoy

    clementine / 972 posts

@jetsa: @blackbird: Our hospital policy is also for DH to leave the room. I thought it was for sterilization, but the passing out thing makes sense too. I think I'll totally break down if they ask if I want it, so I almost want to tell them not to ask me.

  18. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@Mrs. Lovejoy: my nurses were really great about not asking and like I said the first time I asked they sent in a nurse who had been through many natural births and she was able to coach me back to not wanting it.

  19. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@jetsa: I hated the after numb feeling. Yuck. Although not keen on pushing for that long sans relief! Supposedly it's not super painful because the pressure makes you go numb? Is that true? My sciatic pain was off the chart while pushing.

My nurses just said to let them know when I wanted one! They weren't pushy at all

@macintosh: good luck, lady! Hope all goes well!! can't wait to hear about baby mac.

I'm (perhaps naively) thinking I can do an unmedicated delivery. I'm open to interventions, for sure, but want to really try to avoid them if possible. I fully expect my DH to need medication before I do...and so does he.

@macintosh: so excited for you! Any plans for tonight?

@blackbird: the midwife I spoke with on Monday said we might try to go a few days beyond 41w before scheduling an induction. Which is good because my dates are a few behind the EDD based on last menstrual period that the office is using. Also, from what I have seen, the epidural makes it much harder to push effectively. I saw one baby move more when her mom laughed than in the previous three pushes combined. I suppose laughing the baby out is probably only possible with an epidural though! Ha

@GoGoSnoGirl: I am a similar first time mom. I'd like to go sans epidural but am open to it... It all depends on the labor-hand I'm dealt I guess!

  22. blackbird

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@MsHangry: I get nervous about going too late because E had complications due to being overdue and our insurance isn't so generous this time!! But yes I've read the same about Epidurals!

  23. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@blackbird: I had some pain while pushing but not much. I obviously wasn't very efficient.

I don't really want to go past 40 weeks bc the dr office is 8 days behind my dates already.

@jetsa: fascinating.......but yeah seriously, hope you go on your own!

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Definitely let the nurses know you don't want to be asked. I ended up with a c-section after pushing for 3+ hours, so obviously I didn't have the med-free birth I wanted. But I was clear at the beginning that I wanted to go med-free if possible and it definitely helped not to have anyone asking me if I wanted an epidural. Because I don't think I would have been able to say no if someone brought it up!

I will add though that when I got into the OR and they gave me the epidural for surgery, it was the most amazing feeling ever

@jetsa: wow that does sound quick for an induction. I hope I'm as lucky. Yay for not being pregnant anymore AND coming home with a baby!

@blackbird, @Mrs. Lovejoy, @SeptMomma12, @GoGoSnoGirl: thank you! I'm so ready and excited, I hope I can sleep tonight. I also hope I don't get freaked out when it gets real. I can do this!

@MsHangry: thanks! Tonight was super low key. We made tacos and watched a movie. I'll be up at 6 am tomorrow to give us time to get ready

Sorry I took so long to update!!!
Baby looked great on the ultrasound so that was great. I'm home now on 2 different drugs 3 times a day to keep my bp down... its keeping semi stable, sometimes creeping up, but ok. Getting monitored everyday back up at the hospital with ctg/bp/urine and bloods every second. Phew. Glad to be able to be in my own bed though. Bub is happy so have been booked in for induction at 38 weeks on the 11th of May. If bp gets too high again they will induce earlier but baby will be here in hopefully 10 days or less!

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@Mrs squirreld: squeeeee so soon! I hope your BP stays down!

I have a 39 week appt today. I hope he's dropped. Definitely feels like it

@blackbird: I swear this baby is just going to fall out. I had an ultrasound this morning and even the tech commented on how low her head was. My poor cervix is taking a beating!

Ultrasound this morning estimated baby to be around 7lbs 4oz. So the doctor guessed right around 8lbs even when I'm scheduled on May 14. But of course we know those can all be totally off!

    wonderful grape / 20453 posts

@SeptMomma12: aw man i should've asked my dr! I totally forgot because I was too focused on the other questions i had.

I'm dilated to a 2, nothing major, but I'll take it. My next appt is May 12th for a membrane sweep, and I'll be post due....and they'll schedule me for an induction for probably May 14th if he doesn't come by then. They like to give the sweep 48 hours to work. I can't help but feel like I will probably be induced for some reason. History repeating itself, I guess.

I've started my twice weekly visits with non stress tests for baby. She bounced around a LOT at our 1st NST & so I was there almost twice as long as expected. I still have a lot to do this weekend, but getting closer to bring ready for this little girl to arrive.

@Mrs squirreld: wow! So glad everything is stable with your BP. May 11 will be here so soon!

Glad to hear everyone else has had good checkups this week!

We had to move and close on our condo this last week. DH was out of town for work. It was important for him to wrap things up in person these last few weeks before paternity leave. I didn't think it would be a difficult thing to manage on my own, but so much went wrong on moving day. At least the week is over, the furniture is in temporary storage and we closed on the condo.

Now it is May, so bring on the babies!!

Also, the whole last week I have been getting comments that I look too small for being due in mid-May...
    grrrr

@MsHangry: ugh you just can't win, man! You're either huge or small. People are assholes

@MsHangry: I swear I alternate between "OMG how do you walk with that belly?" and "Wow, you're so small." People just need to keep their mouths shut.

Well we had an unexpected trip to L&D last night. I noticed some spotting in the afternoon and then again around dinnertime. Not mucus plug, just spotting. Wasn't concerned but mentioned it to my mom who said I should call the doctor and make sure they weren't concerned either. Well it was the one night of the week none of my doctors were working, so the doctor on call said I needed to come in and get checked. They had me on the monitor for about 45 mins and all was good. I did find out I'm dilated to a 2, but doc said that means nothing and I'll probably go right to my c-section on May 14. The whole thing was such a waste of time.

@SeptMomma12: booooo what a hassle. They don't page your dr for that kind of stuff?
