@highwire: although that sounds like a lot, my dr said its only a problem if the baby isn't gaining weight or is miserable. Is she miserable?

@highwire: Ellie used to spit up a lot more frequently a few weeks ago (so about where C is now I think) but has gotten easier to burp lately and I think that has helped a lot. She still has her moments where the spit up will roll right down the burp cloth and down her dads shirt and onto the floor Sounds normal to me especially if she's in such good shape otherwise!
We go back and forth with sleep. Sometimes (like last night) she's up 2x sometimes she sleeps 8 hours through. Oh we'll, it would be nice to have some more consistency but its not so bad.
Today I forgot her swaddle (woombie) in her day care bag and she only slept 45 minutes all day! She was a little crabby when she got home but we nursed, did bath time and nursed again (more of a comfort nurse) and she's been sleeping since 7:20 (it's 9:15 now) so I'm crossing my fingers for a good night ahead - and a good tomorrow!

@lindseykaye: thanks! I tried to keep a better eye on her hunger cues today and made sure to pause and burp during feedings more frequently. It helped a lot!!
Hope you get a good night's rest out of her!

@kml636: Nope, she's gone back to doing a 5 hour followed by a 3 hour. Hopefully it's just a short term thing! Love your new avatar pic...what a cutie!!

@travelgirl1: Aw, sorry to hear your appointment with the LC didn't go as well as you had hoped. But it sounds like A is making awesome progress and things are going better, so that's great news! Just a word of caution though - I'm not sure how the LC's are up by you, but I guess the ones at my hospital are notorious for (over)diagnosing tongue-ties. My pediatrician told me that both she and another Dr. from their practice are on the hunt for the LC's at my hospital because just about every baby seen by these LC's seems to come in with an alleged tongue-tie. And at the mom's group I've been going to (sponsored by the hospital), at least half of the mom's there were told their child had one. The pediatrician did acknowledge that my little girl does have a SLIGHT tongue-tie, but nothing that she'd want to do anything about at this time.

Officially have a freezer stash! Pumped extra today outside of her feedings and have 3.5 ounces in the freezer and another 2 in the fridge! Yessss. Go boobies!

@SLR: Yeah this crossed my mind too. I was just saying to DH earlier that I'm so torn as to what to do. Yesterday she fed really well but today she was freaking out again, so I got DH to help me with positioning her so as to not squish her legs at all, and she ate like she was starving, so then I felt so guilty. Honestly if she would take a bottle at all I would give up and pump at this point. Anyway, she also leaves my nipples mishapen and they're always white so she cuts off the blood supply, little vampire : ) So I'm wondering if there is something in the tongue tie theory.... I don't want to splash out for another LC visit though because she just freaks out when people interfere with her feeding and I feel like it makes it worse. Ahhhhhhhhhh.
@highwire: Yay for freezer supplies!!! It's great your supply is doing so well right now, so pleased for you!

Call me crazy but Austin woke up early for his nighttime feeding and I was sick of the swaddle that I put him down arms unswaddled in his halo sleepsack. Hes paased out, wish us luck on this random swaddle weaning!
The past cpl days have been fun going out and about with A. Spent two hours walking at the mall today.

@mrsjyw: oooo we were meant to try that this week but I totally bailed let us know how you get on!

Hi all. Just wanted to pop in and say hi. We have been super busy lately so I feel like I'm way behind!! M has been doing well. Still trying to sort out her food allergies but she is gaining weight well and is a generally happy baby so doc isn't too worried. Most nights she sleeps 9:30pm/6:30am straight through. Now that I know she can go that long without eating on the off night that she wakes early (anytime before 5) I only give her a paci and rock her back to sleep. I want to keep her completely night weaned if possible.

@MamaMoose: That's so awesome she is sleeping so well!
I had a meeting yesterday so I did a half day at work. OMG. I don't know how full time WOHMs do it! It took me like 2 hours just getting myself ready, then baby, diaper bag packed, breast pump, drive in the opposite direction to drop her off, drive back to work, work, drive back to babysitters (15 mins in the opposite direction) , then home! So exhausting. I'm going to keep looking for a sitter close to us. So glad I have to do this only 2 days a week, but that might be too much for me!

@MamaMoose: That's great that you can get more sleep! Hope the food allergy stuff is going well for you, it's awful to see them in pain isn't it, and hard for you with elimination diets.
@kml636: Are you back to work two days a week now then? Aw it must be difficult and very busy for you to get everything sorted but sounds like you guys did a good job!

@travelgirl1: I'm starting Monday. At this point I think we're going to go with a nanny because it's so much easier, despite the extra expense!

@travelgirl1: slept normal/better! He napped in.pnp.wo.swaddle today too. Yipppeeeee!

@kml636: Good luck on Monday! I start back on Wednesday and not looking forward to it. I think I'm going to allow myself a couple hours to get myself ready too. (I'll probably have to touch up my makeup a couple times from the tears of leaving her!) How many times a day are you planning on pumping?
We did a "trial day" (9:45 am - 2:30 pm) at daycare yesterday and it broke my heart to leave her. She did good with the bottles for the teachers but didn't nap well unswaddled (one 10 minute and one 25 minute nap). It was so sad when I went to pick her up though...she was just chilling on a boppy on the floor all by herself and her eyes looked puffy like she had been fussing. One teacher was feeding another baby and the other was with the older babies at a table doing purees. I know it's silly and I'm sure she wasn't neglected, but it really did leave me in tears.
And, I don't remember this from our past visits, but I thought the whole place kind of smelled like diapers. It's definitely a decent place and I have friends that take their kids there, so who knows, maybe it's common for facilities have a slight odor?? We've been on a waiting list since August at someplace else we like better, so perhaps something will open up in the next few months.

@mrsjyw: Jealous! We've got the one arm out down, but still can't do unswaddled.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@SLR: awww don't be sad, she will have you there at evenings and weekends and will get to be so excited when you pick her up! My two nieces go to daycare and they are so happy there, I'm sure your little lady will love it when she gets used to it. Big big hugs.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@SLR: omg. Yes, it's terrible. I would have felt so sad for her if I were you too! I feel like it's a no win situation.
AND my friend that we had planned on watching her just told me she thinks it's too much and doesn't want to do it. My search for childcare has been INSANE!

@kml636: ugh that's awful!! Hope you get a resolution soon and find something great
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@kml636: whaaaaat? Perhaps she should have thought that through more thoroughly before committing? Does she realize that's a pretty huge thing to go back on?? I'm so sorry you're dealing with so much stress.
@SLR: I'm really nervous about how on earth daycare is going to get M to sleep. The kid just needs to be swaddled (or held) to sleep! They keep promising me that they have swaddle weaned many babies and she'll be just fine but it makes me sad to think about that transitional time! I've tried not swaddling for naps at home and it's been a big fail.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@MamaMoose: @scg00387: yes this is a huge mess. I told her to just be honest with me if it was too much and I guess she didn't realize how hard two can be. I'm just so frustrated! I may end up paying for a full time spot even though she will only be there two days.
clementine / 824 posts
@kml636: That's awful! Do any daycare centers in your area do part-time care? I think mine does anywhere from 3-5 days a week. Or would a nanny share be an option, if you know anyone who would be willing to let your LO come a couple days a week to save them a little $ too?
honeydew / 7687 posts
@kml636: ugh that is even worse if you have to pay for FT and not even use it! maybe they'd let you split it with another family?
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@SLR: @scg00387: yeah I am checking into a few options like that. Thanks!

Got mastitis yesterday. Sob. Red streaking on breast, big red area, and the whole thing is hot and sore. Fever got as high as 100.1 which is definitely fever territory for me.
I've been resting as much as possible since symptoms started , and actually feel loads better today. Doc said he would call in an antibiotic and I'm still waiting on that so I can start taking it

I hope tonight is a fluke because after two weeks of great sleep (~10 hours per night) my little guy has already been awake three times. We put him down around 9. He woke up around 10:45 and my husband gave him his pacifier. The same thing happened at 1:45. He woke up again at 2:45, so I went in to change his diaper (it was soaked, but usually is by morning) and nursed him. He's not going back to sleep. He's 14 weeks old so this could be the dreaded "four month sleep regression". Of course I have plans tomorrow and can't just sleep all day. Anyone else dealing with this?
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@ChelseaRose: LO was up twice tonight (1 am and now at 530). There was also a massive thunderstorm that woke me up seperately and also someone decided to shoot off fireworks earlier along with my lovely mastitis, I am wrecked from this night of non sleep
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: oh man, I hear ya!! Maybe you'll catch a nap this afternoon? And hope the mastitis has improved!
It was a non-sleep night for me too. I did sleep from 9-1, but I've been up since then. Baby actually slept okay, but mentally I was a mess. I think I'm getting anxious about going back to work on Thursday. Stressing too about balancing life as a mom/wife/employee. I know it's bad when I start googling breastfeeding safe anti-anxiety medicines.

@highwire: Oh no, feel better soon!
@ChelseaRose: I feel ya, mama! We are having an horrific time at night at the moment. I miss my fuss-free baby girl!
@Mrs. Tricycle: I'm so sorry you're anxious about work, it must be really tough. Are you happy with the daycare and everything?

@kml636: good luck tomorrow!
We've had a rough week - not only are the thirty minute naps hanging on now its been taking twenty minutes of fight to get there no matter what I do! Today was better and I hope it's the break in the storm. Mamas tired of fighting with baby!
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
@scg00387: We're going through exactly the same at the moment and bedtimes are horrendous. We figured out she's way over tired and got her down for 6pm tonight and she's still down, but last night and both naps today were truly awful. Really hoping we can figure it out.

i don't know if this will help you guys with naps, but i found this website to be very helpful:
http://www.babywisemom.com/p/index-by-age.html
it talks about optimal wake times for babies of certain ages and tons of info on napping. the website also says how every nap should be 1.5-2 hours, but my LO will rarely have a nap longer than 40 minutes and she seems ok with that. i think at this age, short naps are normal.

We are also in the 30-45 min nap camp. He wakes up happy though so I'm trying not to stress about it. He still doesnt sleep (10+) through the night though. He'll be 12 wks on wed and he goes down for five/six hr stretch then two 2/3hr stretches. Any tips from the sttn lo mamas??? A puts himself to sleep well and eats every 2-3 hra dueing the day. I tried dream feed, cluster fweding, diff bedtimes, etc. And he is 13 lbs+
We've survived a whole wknd up north! Much better than last month! Humidifier was the key change.
This is my last wk of mat leave and dh is on vaca. We are having oue first overnight away from A on vday. My mom is staying at our house and babysitting while we go see the lion king and staying at the casino downtown. Thibk I'm 99% ready but can always drive home after the muaical id I'm not confortable.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@JessLC: yes I've been on her website!! Thanks I've tried everything from 45 to 130 between naps and around an hour is best but he still fights it. I swear its like he hates sleep- hell be happy and yawny and once we go into nap routine he is yelling little stinker!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@mrsjyw: we're in the same camp though I haven't tried dream feeding. We had our best night this weekend with five hours then four then two. Honestly I'm just happy that the whole process is starting earlier so we get a little baby free time. I am hoping longer sleep jut happens organically but try not to fret about it too much.
