@SLR: Yay, thats awesome! I hope she keeps it up!

I have found a nanny and a friend to watch her on different days, but I'm just second guessing myself. I'm so anxious about what could happen!

C was up at 130 and 3 last night, but I suspect it was a combination of her shots, blasting out of her sleep sack, and first night having free range in the crib. Hope we get in a snooze today!

So my awesome day went down the pooper (literally) when Emerson woke up. I had gotten her all dressed in a cute outfit to go out and meet her 'friends' today. But then she had a major poop explosion while she was nursing. Alllllllll up the back, soaked through to a burp cloth and the boppy. I put her on a towel in the bathroom and it soaked through to that too. I had just given her a bath yesterday afternoon too. Ugh...

@slr yay about sleep.. boo on poop

    @kml636 cute new picture!

I just ordered valentines after making one on Picmonkey, so cute! For some reason doing the photos for it turned my LO into a cranky pants though, guess he was sick of the flash We heard our first big belly laugh last night and it was so stinking cute!

@SLR: Oh no!!!! We didn't have any explosions for the first nine weeks as we had to double diaper her but OMG are we paying for it now, lol. How's she getting on with the bottles?

  9. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

@mrsjyw: OMG yes I LOVE the smiles and coos and giggles. She gave her first proper hearty giggle the other day - when DH was demonstrating the football hold with her, lol. Her first laugh was when her daddy was pretending to breastfeed : )

We have a LC coming over tomorrow, so happy about that. It took a while to take the plunge because you can get a lot of help free here and private LCs are pricey but I NEED some help and reassurance and just knowing she is on her way helped no end today. One much calmer mama has meant one much calmer baby. Result!

@travelgirl1: Pretty good (I think?). She took 4oz tonight from my husband using the mOmma. She refused one from me when we were out yesterday morning but took it just fine when we got home. Can't decide which bottle to order more of for daycare. I like both for different reasons. Good luck with the LC tomorrow! I'm so glad you are having one come out; hoping that she can give some good tips on positioning or at least provide reassurance that she's doing just fine. Maybe she can help with the bottle too.

@kml636: your new pic is so sweet! love.

@SLR: maybe time to move up to next diaper size? glad to hear bottle feeding is going better! ours is a little better too and my LO likes the mOmma bottles too. we only have one right now, but should probably buy a few more so that my mom doesn't have to keep washing out the same bottle over and over. how many do you think you'll buy?

@mrsjyw: i don't think my LO ever coincided with the stated growth spurts. so it could be?

    Hello everyone!

I've been out of sight for a while just really focusing on enjoying the last of my maternity leave and I am happy to report that my first day back at work (yesterday) was a big success!

I was so nervous and worried but baby girl was all smiles that morning and I left daycare before she started crying (I was totally crying) which I think helped. Then her daddy got to pick her up, which he was very excited to do, and bring her home to me. Pumping at work went well and I got more than I expected to get (although I am spoiled with my own office so it's a very comfortable place to pump).
The day before my first day back was actually a lot more emotional for me. But I was so happy to spend it cuddling and kissing her, letting her nap in my arms whenever she wanted, and getting as much of that baby smell as I possibly could.

We're doing well in our little corner over here. Ellora will be 12 weeks on Saturday and she is sleeping 6-8 hours through in her crib at night now. We were getting that consistently in the swing but decided to transition her to her crib 100% a couple weeks ago and she went back to waking 2-3x but with the addition of a double swaddle (a miracle blanket topped with a woombie) she is doing much better. I went in one night when she was fussing to find both legs and one arm out of the miracle blanket and she was so mad about it! hahaha

I think I've caught myself up on the pages of posts I missed and it's so wonderful to hear that everyone's LO's are doing so well, even with all of our individual challenges. It is wonderful to be able to come here and read your stories and get tips.

@mrsJYW: When we were transitioning her to her crib at night I read about the little horseshoe 'nest' you built with a blanket under the sheet for A and did that for Ellora and it is AMAZING so thank you so much for putting that idea out there! And, the growth spurts seem to be a bit on the early side for us but I think it's because she was 'late' so her gestational age is about a week ahead.

For the mamas with bottle struggles - we are using the Playtex drop-ins (I know some people don't like the waste but I like that they are guaranteed clean and easy on our daycare mama). The nipple size/shape is the same as the "soothie" pacifier she was given at the hospital and that we still use which seems to help with any confusion. She still mashes it around sometimes and spits it out but will eventually drink just fine (and much better when I am not with her).

And for good measure, a recent photo of our happy girl!

I took my mom and Charlotte over to the daycare today for the visit. It went great! The infant room was FULL of sweet babies. They were all older than she was and some were holding up heads, others were sitting, another one crawling. And then we got home and Charlotte held her head up higher than ever during tummy time. Being around older babies is totally going to help her meet her various milestones I think!

I'm really excited for her to get to play with fun different toys and babies at daycare and the ladies that work in the room are very sweet and loving to the babies.

It will be hard to leave her but I'm excited to have a real, live schedule again. And pumping at work will suck, but I'm looking forward to being able to pump at regular intervals instead of nursing on demand like I've been doing for most of my maternity leave. And I've got my own office like @lindseykaye: so that will be easy.

Feeling great! Soaking up these last precious moments with my sweet baby and ready for our next phase to being after that.

@lindseykaye: what a cutie pie!! And yayyy I'm glad it worked! We still use it for A~ both in pnp.and crib

@highwire: hooooray! Sounds like a great environment for.C!

Sooo I'm hoping last night was a fluke. Marpac sound machine came in today (we'd been using an ipad app) I bathed him again and nursed allll day long...he went down at 730... hoping he gets btr sleep today...*fingers crossed*

Regardless of lack of.sleep last night and the.cold weather, took the babe grocery shopping. Days are full of visits.and outings and we're def in a *normal* routine...a new normal!

Trying to soak up these no work/no.school days with.baby A moments

I went to sleep at 9. DH woke me up at 1130 to DTD. He passed out immediately afterward while I tossed and turned until 130. Finally fell asleep ans then LO just woke up at 2. Epic fail lol

I have been nursing only and haven't pumped at all in the last couple if weeks. I skipped one nurse today and pumped instead and got 4.5 oz....my biggest amount ever!!! I wanted to see how my supply was doing before going back to work. Seems to be rocking! She takes 4 oz at her feedings when we do formula so we are in perfect shape. So happy that I am still giving her breastmilk and may be able to pump a good amount for her at work after all.

@highwire: wow, that's awesome! I'm also dreading pumping at work. If I feed her on my lunch break, I'm hoping I wount have to pump? Not sure if that will work or not.

    @highwire: yayyyy!!

Back to our 7 hour stretch! Sticking with 8/830 bedtime. Total mistake to change so soon/suddenly to 7/730.

He nursed like a champ for 12 min and is back down. Now I'm pumping the other side boooooo.

    Cheers to a great wknd!

So it's 7am here and I'm wide awake waiting for little lady to wake up. She went down at 9:30 last night so she's currently at 9.5 hours of straight sleep. Bless her!

Also.... I'm never allowed in TJ Maxx alone again. I went in yesterday to "look around" and bought THREE tutus. I'm out of control.

@MamaMoose: Awesome sleep! I hear ya on the shopping. I think it's worse when they are starting to grow out of a size - then I feel the urge to go out and buy stuff (even if I already have plenty in the closet). I guess that will be one good thing about going back to work?...not as much time to shop?

What happened to my good little sleeper?!?! Earlier in the week she started doing 8 hour stretches. But the last couple nights she's been up after 4-5. Last night was the worst. It was almost newborn sleep all over again.

Put her down at 8:30 and she woke up at 1:15 am with a hand busting out of her swaddle. Okay, no big deal, right?...I'll just feed her since I'm up and she seems hungry. WRONG!!! Put her back down and she was up again at 4am. Then again at 5:30 and AGAIN at 6:50 (at which point I just got her up for the day).

Reeeaaallly hoping that this doesn't become the norm. I want my 8 hours back!!!

Had the wildest weekend! Friday night we drove 4 hours to my in laws. I wanted to put her back to bed when we got there but MIL wanted to ser her grandchild understandably, so she stayed up on and off all night. Then on Saturday we had brunch with FILs family, an impromptu wedding at DHs granddaddy house (yeah, what?) And then a party for another couple of DHs cousins who eloped last week. Then we drove 4 hours back home last night. This morning my whole family came over because one of my cousins from NY was in town during a layover on her way home from a yoga retreat in Mexico.

DH, LO, and I are BEAT. but we did it! LO was a champ. Only difference was she was a little sleepier. But no crankiness and no other issues. What a little jet setter!

@MamaMoose: Ha ha ha! I hear you on the tutus - I put A in one the night before she went in her harness, it was like our last hurrah, ha ha.

@lindseykaye: So glad work's going well and what a GORGEOUS little girl you have!

@highwire: Good job on the trip! Future jet setter in the making?

@SLR: Welllll it was a bit of a disaster. She came over (and she's English too, which I totally didn't realise when I booked her but it meant we bonded straight and talk about being Brits abroad) and suggested A might be a bit tongue tied as she felt a bit of stiffness. I'm pretty pissed off about that because I asked our doctors to check her for that at least three times already, but I might go get it checked out by a specialist to see if that will help her. Anyway, so we tried to breastfeed then the LC tried to change A around and she went nuts. Girl does NOT like to be moved midway through dinner. She freaked so much she refused to eat again until the next day. The result was a crying mama and baby (because seriously, I did NOT need her to refuse to eat) but LC was great and gave some good positioning advice, such as I had her with her face tilted down and it should be up, and a few more tips. She suggested I get a prescription for donperidone asap so I saw my doctor the next day, and did a great job of sounding stressed to the hilt because he gave me the meds (as well as a pep talk on how there was no need to worry because she was fine, even though it was him who stressed me out in the first place). Ahhhhh. I think the LC felt bad about making A cry so much because she only charged me for one hour, not two.

  36. travelgirl1

    cantaloupe / 6630 posts

I don't know if you all saw the other thread I started, but A's latest ultrasound was really good! THey're looking for angles of 60 in each hip. The right is now 60 and the left has gone from in the 30s to 52!!!!! Woohoo! So the verdict was the harness will stay on and we don't have to go back for three weeks. The best bit? We might soon get to start taking her out of it for one hour a day, which means we can bath her AND get some baby snuggles without straps in the way. So unbelievable excited!!!!

  37. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

    @travelgirl1: so awesome!!!

I started another thread on this, but how much do your babies spit up? With my breastmilk supply doing so well lately, I worry that I might be overfeeding her. She almost always spits up after nursing (it looks like a ton, but I assume it isn't all of it) and then we are still doing bottles of formula as well. Since she's STTN I feed her a lot during the day, but I don't know if this is too much spit up or what. We are both covered and changing clothes at least 3x a day...

  38. mrsjyw

    GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts

@highwire: A always spits up after a nursing session, sometimes with burping right away, and sometimes a while later, within an hour or so. Sometimes it's just a lil bit, sometimes it's a good amount. I heard a good measure is that if it's less than an oz of spit up; it's pretty normal.

How are your naps? A is consistently taking 35 minute naps. We had a fluke of a 2 hour nap yesterday but that was because he was up for 3 hours in the am before...

Also - do you nurse on one side only each time? A averages 8-9 minutes on each side each nursing session... And he also has a TON of BM dipes.

  39. DillonLion

    GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts

@mrsjyw: she does 2-3 cat naps and then one long nap everyday. But that long nap can happen any time of day.

I try to nurse both sides every time (especially first thing in the am because I'm about to burst. And we usually nurse/snooze/nurse for over an hour during that AM session. Since she sleeps so long I want to get in as many breast stimulations as possible during the day.

She only has 2 dirty diapers a day most days. Sometimes more sometimes less (probably changes depending on the breastmilk/formula ratio)

  40. kml636

    pomegranate / 3225 posts

@mrsjyw: Lily also does 30 - 40 min naps. One long nap if we hold her or in the swing. As long as she keeps sttn, I don't care though!
