@Mrs. Tricycle: thanks! Just did dishes one handed so I think that might be my next purchase lol
Who is pumped that their DHs are almost done with the work week?? Mine has been so exhausted and worn out the last few days :'(
clementine / 824 posts
Yes....Totally pumped to have DH here for a couple days!! I think I've reached a breaking point.
Em has been so fussy for hours at a time and nothing seems to calm her down. She was up from 10:30am to 4pm today, crying and constantly acting like she wanted to eat, but not really nursing. I kept trying to put her down for a nap, but she'd only stay there for 5 minutes or so before she'd start wailing. She JUST went down for a nap, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed she stays there a while.
We broke down and got some gas drops yesterday. Those seemed to work instantly, but didn't last for long.
I don't know if it's reflux, gas, or colic...but it's really starting to wear on me.
Thank God DH works just next week and then will be off for the two weeks after. I can't wait.

@SLR: My LO pulled the same craziness today!! Awake from 10 to 3. Constantly snacking and then faking me out and sleeping for ten minutes and then waking up again. I just laid her in her bassinet and said a prayer!

@SLR: My little guy was like that yesterday afternoon and evening. It was awful. He definitely has some gassy times, but we haven't given him anything for it. I thought today was going to be more of the same, but luckily he went down for a nap (in his crib!) a little over an hour ago.

@highwire: @MamaMoose: Ditto. Oh my god today has been the most fussy of her life so far! I think it's because my parents got into town and there's been a lot going on and what little routine we had was shot.
She has only slept in 10 minute spurts since about 9 am. It's 5:45 now and she's quiet cuddling on DH bur totally not sleeping. I'm crossing my fingers it won't last all night and that tomorrow might be better but she's 4 weeks old tomorrow and according to the Wonder Weeks book we're due for a growth spurt and need of some extra attention.

@mrsjyw: I am so jealous! I'm hoping DH and I can both get a little extra sleep this weekend. He had a work event at 615 this morning and barely made it in time..

Sigh. Ever feel like you are taking two steps forward and one step back? We made it two nursing sessions with no formula and then she got hysterical and we tried everything (nursing, changed diaper, took a walk, pacifier, but she was just starving so I just had to give her more formula. I worry about switching her back and forth and taxing her poor little digestive system, but she doesn
seem too bothered by going back and forth so maybe I am worrying for no reason.

@kodybear: I used Moms on Call and my LO has slept 6-7 hours a night at 5 weeks old. I love the swaddle blanket you can buy from them too.

@SLR: Aw, poor little girl, and poor you, it must be hard trying to work out what's wrong with her.
@lindseykaye: A has been a bit like that with naps, but only if we try put her down for them. If we hold her she's happy enough.
@mrsjyw: wow, sounds like you've had some awesome relaxation! The massage sounds heavenly.
@highwire: fab about the two good sessions, more will happen soon, I'm sure.

Ariela was held by someone other than us for the first time today and she was awesome! Gave our friend a massive grin and even though she fussed a bit, went to sleep on her. Proud mama! I was also proud of myself for not taking her back the second she started fussing.

Almost 6 hours of sleep! Thank you baby girl!
If you get more sleep do you wake up engorged? Mine were getting that way just now and when I took my bra off they were projectile squirting, ha ha. Nice.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@travelgirl1: My little guy went 5.5 hours between nursing sessions tonight (from start to start) and both of my boobs were kinda engorged. I'm nursing him now and I'm going to pump the other side because there is no way I can wait another few hours for him to need to nurse again. At least this will help me build my stash.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@travelgirl1: oh yes!! Hubs took the early shift last night and then got LO to sleep for 5 hours so I just woke up with very full boobs!! M has been nursing on one side for the last 35 minutes and is still gulping away!! When she's finished I'm going to out her down and pump the other side.

Sounds like you ladies had good nights! Em was still a little stinker until about 3am - VERY fussy. I nursed her at 10:30 last night, 1am, 3am, and 6am. She is down for a nap now. Mornings tend to be her good sleeping time, so I'm hoping she'll be back to her usual self when she gets up.
Yep, if I don't feed on one side for a period of 5-6 hours, I feel like I'm going to burst. I usually try to pump one side at least once a day to keep a bottle or two in the fridge or put a bag in the freezer.
How much are you all accumulating in a freezer stash? I'm not sure if it's better to keep in the fridge for bottles and give DH some more feeding duty, or if I should put in the freezer. Right now, I only have 15oz or so frozen.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@travelgirl1: yep.def wakeup w full boobs... so I try to pump first n.then feed lo...
Lo was up at 230/530/8 ... not too bad... bff is coming by for a visit today and ill probably run over ti sephora cuz I didn't get a chance to.last wk.
@slr I have about 10oz frozen. And have have been giving 1 4-5 oz bottle a day. I've only been pumping reg for the.last.few days though

I left some pumped milk last night and my in laws told us to go to bed and they would take night duty. I just slept from 1045-730. My god. Boobs don't hurt but I'm worried it will impact my supply if I go any longer between some kind of pumping or nursing so I'm going to get up and go do at least one of those things
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@highwire: what great in laws! You must feel amazing! What a nice way for you and DH to kick off the weekend!
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
I'm jealous of all your good sleep. Normally LO is content from 10-1 with DH, but he wanted to eat every hour on the hour last night, so I didn't get a nice long stretch of sleep. We nursed at 1:00, 3:30, 5:30 and now again at 9:00. Maybe we'll hit 4 or 5 hours some day - that'd be a great Christmas present!
I'm wondering if LO's weight had any impact on his ability to sleep in longer stretches? He only made it to 6 lbs 8 oz, so he's pretty tiny. For those of you whose babies are doing 4+ hours, how much does your LO weigh?
clementine / 824 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: Sounds like we are on similar schedules. My LO has been putting weight on like crazy and she still sleeps just 2-3 hours at night. She weighed 6.11 at birth and was 7.11 as of this past Monday, at 13 days old.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I think weight definitely has something to do with it. Lily is almost 9 lbs now and has gone 5 hrs between meals... But was up between 2 -4 last night.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
You're all much better than me, I was too greedy to pump, I wanted even MORE sleep!
@Mrs. Tricycle: she's 8lb 10 now but slept through a couple of times when she was way smaller.
pear / 1698 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I think my LO was 7 lbs 1 oz when she started sleeping longer stretches. She's 7 lbs 9 oz now. I was worried about dropping the night feedings since she's small, but I weigh her at least once a week at my LC's breastfeeding support group and she has continued to gain an ounce a day so she doesnt seem to miss the extra feeding.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: my in laws are angels. seriously.
LO was an oz shy of her birth weight at 8 days. She's 11 days now and I'd expect she is somewhere in the 7lb 12 oz range
shes sleeping 3-4 hrs

@highwire: your in laws sound amazing! I wish my mom would help me out just one night!
persimmon / 1161 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: The LC that we saw a couple of weeks ago said that it definitely had to do with weight. Bigger baby = bigger tummy = full longer. My LO was over 8 lbs at birth and was up to 10 lbs at one month. I was told that 10lbs and 6 weeks are usually thresholds for longer sleep. A good friend of mine had a full term baby who was about 5.5 pounds and said that she needed to nurse her every 1.5-3 hours for a while.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@travelgirl1: I didn't pump to be completely empty, but rather just enough to reduce the pressure. I only got about 2.5 oz from my middle of the night pump, but only pumped for about 5-10 minutes.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
LO is 11 days and I'm probably pumping a total of about 6 oz a day on top of nursing...does this seem like a good amount? I pump so frequently that I never feel like my supply is that great but if I total it up for the day it seems better. Anyone who is.pumping care to share if that is about where they were at this point?
clementine / 824 posts
@highwire: I was doing about 5oz a side if completely full and pumping to empty. But the LC told me I have an over-supply, which is a problem I prefer not to have. It almost chokes LO at times. Poor thing.
When I was talking to the ped about it last week (when she was 10 days old), the doc said that most women get around 1.5oz per side at that point. Based on that, I'd think 6oz extra of pumped milk sounds like a good amount!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I've always heard/been told the heavier the baby, the easier it is for them to sleep longer. G is around 7lbs 13 oz and sleeping for at least one 4+ hour stretch a day, if not more.
@highwire I'm not pumping regularly yet, will once we move, but when I do I usually get about 1.5-2.5 oz per side in 15 minutes.
The LC I met with pointed out that sometimes ounce output can be misleading when I asked what was normal to expect. She said you make more in the morning but it is less filling as opposed to night - and that babies usually drink more when its from a bottle because it's less work, so not to feel like they're being underfed if they seem starving/eat fast with a bottle. I don't know if that helps! I think it's awesome you're working so hard to make BFing happen for you & your baby girl!
Jealous that most everyone sounds like they have low-key holidays coming their way!
We're just starting to potentially grow out of newborn clothes which is sad/exciting!
Is anyone else's baby having serial hiccups? Everything I read say its harmless, but I hate it because it keeps him awake! I'm going to ask the pediatrician on Monday about gripe water
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@highwire: im usually pumping about 2.5 ounces per day. I could pump more but I'm lazy!
@Mrs. Tricycle: LO is probably close to 7lbs now and does one stretch of 5 hours between feedings. She could do two if she weren't such a fuss pants for the first half of every night!!
@scg00387: Uhhhhh the hiccups KILL me. She always gets them when she is about to fall asleep and we have to wait it out and start all over again on calming her. Or if they are reall bad I nurse her and that helps. She got them ALL the time in utero too.
persimmon / 1161 posts
@scg00387: My little guy gets hiccups at least once per day. I feel bad for him because they are full body hiccups. He also sneezes a few times per day and it is almost always 2-3 sneezes per time.
pear / 1616 posts
@LemonLong: So first night trying their methods we got to 1:20 and 5:30, so not bad, almost to the 2am/6am goal. did it take awhile for you to get to the 6-7 hrs? LO just seems to get hungry easily. Might have to do with her size like other ppl r saying. (as of tues she was 6lb 5oz). gonna keep at it. thinking abt adding formula to her last bottle of the day to make her fuller
@highwire: since i'm exclusively pumping i make about 21oz/day (abt 3oz/session for both sides). i feel like its low but its enough for LO for now. I'm trying to get it up to 30oz since thats what i read is the peak for 1-6 month olds. so i ordered some more milk plus. we'll see if that helps! i could try adding more sessions but i am way too tired. ha
@scg00387: LO gets hiccups about once a day too.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
@scg00387: yep A gets hiccups at least once a day
@highwire: I've been pumping the last few days. E
First day was 5oz total. Yest was 9oz. Total. Today we're at 3oz. After pumping for 15-20 min? Left boob def produces less at this ot from the first few days before nipple shield...
@Mrs. Tricycle: lo was 8.11 at birth and a few days later had lost a lot 7.14... two weeks later we finally got him back up to 8.5 and that's when our longer stretches of sleep have been happening.
A has been eating/sleeping really well. I feel more tired than I do th first wk tho. I think it's the adrenaline wearing off and my body feling the weeks of sporadic sleep now. On the pp recovery side, I'm down to one or two motrins a day... swelling on episiotomy is gobe and I think my stitches are just about healrd up too... I do havr a small gland that is swollen ib my vag area that I'm keeping an eye on... pp appt isn't until jan 3 but I may go in if the gland doesn't go down...
Happy wknd everyone! Hoping to get in some nb/holiday photos w my cousin tomo and get out a rush order of holiday/birth announcements!
