November 2014 Mama's!!

How big are you guys' baby bumps? I am only 7w4d and lordy.... I am totally showing. I can't even suck it in. There are those ladies who have perfect basketball bumps.... I think I will be in the beach ball category.

@Ms.Mermaid: I think it's actually hardest to tell the people you love the most, because you know they will be emotionally invested in the baby too! Our parents weren't the first to know either. We didn't want to make them sad if it didn't work out.

@ShayNanigans: I think it's a boy, based on nothing really. Probably because I want both, but would prefer a girl first, so it will obviously be a boy! I did have a dream about breastfeeding a girl with dark hair like my DH's though, so who knows. It would be so cool if you get both boy and girl! Talk about twin jackpot!

@Freckles: welcome and congrats! Sending you lots of sticky baby thoughts and hopes for a smooth pregnancy.

@ChiCalGoBee: Sigh, still spotting. But it has slacked off a lot this week, and haven't seen any pink or red since last Wed or Thurs. Oh, and I would be happy about not getting a pap if you don't have to!

@tororojo: that Chinese gender chart said girl for me. Guess it's got a 50% chance of being right

@Ms.Mermaid: Don't feel bad about not telling parents yet. They don't have to know that they weren't the first to know! We're not telling our parents until we hit 13 weeks (which happens to be Mother's Day), but I hope to tell a few close friends next week on my birthday. It's all about your comfort levels and the support you will get from others, not about them.

@ShayNanigans: haha, you totally have an excuse for early baby bump with two! I've always carried my weight in my stomach, so I already had a lot of "fluff" to begin with, plus gained some weight and bloat since August due to clomid, so I haven't noticed too much difference yet. I'm really looking forward to the second trimester though, when I will feel more valid in having a bump, and to a summer of not having to suck it in!

@ShayNanigans: I'm 9w3d and have a creepy little bloat bump. I will attach a pic for reference. My stomach was FLAT during Feb (I have a pic in a fitted dress the last day of the month and there is no hint of a bump!) and now it's far from flat. I have also dropped 4 nursing sessions in the past 2 months and gained 6 lbs so far. AAAH!

@Sprite: I have heard that it's 50% accurate- you must be psychic or something But seriously, I hope it's wrong and I have a girl. But if it's a boy, DH might let us stop at 2 kids- silver lining?! I always thought I wanted 3 but this nausea is bumming me out.

Hi guys! I've read through all if your posts form the past couple of days. Glad everyone is doing well enough! This little baby is kicking my butt recently. I've been feeling a little bit less queasy since I got to stop my progesterone shots (my progesterone was at 57(!) at 4 weeks, but they kept me on the shots and I'm still on suppositories since we did IVF), but I haven't been sleeping well at all. Last night, I had a terrible migraine that kept me up between 1 and 4. I ended up taking this morning off and sleeping till 11:30! Somehow, I'm still exhausted! So I'll say goodnight and catch up more with you all more tomorrow!

I'm sleeping so poorly. Ugh. I've been so tired lately, I just feel so worn down. Also today all day I was nauseated - normally it clears up at some point. I also had like sharp cramping papain instead of the usual tugging. I spread out my yoga may and lay on the floor of my office which helped a bit.

I don't have a bump yet - weeks 5-7 I had a lot of bloating but that's not so bad now and I have one pair of pants that is big enough. It's definitely worse if I have anything carbonated.

@Ms.Mermaid: hope you feel better soon!! I have laid out on the carpet of my classroom at lunch time!!

I have spent the last 30 minutes looking up round ligament pain and finding pics- can we say visual learner!! It has been kicking my butt the last couple of weeks. I roll over in the middle of the night and get the stabbing pain which goes away right away, ache off and on. Today was bad. It calms me to see that of the lime 8 pages I read all saw exactly how I feel. So hard to be a calm first time prego with a laid back doctor!!

We go for our "paid and fun" ultra sound tomorrow. I am nervous and excited. This is the first confirmation besides peeing on the many sticks and blood work at 4 weeks. I tried to find the heart beat today on a Doppler but I could t find it, I know it's early so not stressing. I am 10 weeks ish on Saturday. Not sure on exact date. I am going by ovulation!

I hope to post a pic of our little monkey tomorrow morning. Nervous!

Sorry I haven't been around, been crazy busy with friends' weddings and school. Just checking in real quick to say hi! Also I have a weird taste in my mouth like I've been licking envelopes. Ugh.

@Mrs.Panda our stationary at work made me so sick the first couple of weeks. Our envelopes taste gross. I've had bad dry mouth lately, which is maybe similar to what you mean.

I've been SO exhausted too. My new bedtime is 9:30! My DH is going crazy with this, but sometimes, he's even asleep before me

Does anyone drink coffee/caffeine at all? I've had 1 cup since I found out I was PG. Today I'm having my 2nd cup. I feel guilty though? What are everyone's thoughts on this? Am I just being crazy? I am 9 weeks today!

Also - what apps do you guys use? I have 'The Bump' and 'My Pregnancy'. Are there any better ones out there?

@DeannaY1230: I use the Ovia app and really like it. I know basically no one has heard of it, but I used their TTC app and loved it, too. It's really great info each day, and also let's you record notes, take pics, etc. I'll look into the ones you suggested, too!

@deannay1230: Don't feel guilty, a pregnant woman can have up to 200mg of caffeine a day, which is a cup or two or normal home brewed coffee. I know I still have my daily cup!

In other news... I threw up for the first time today at exactly 7 weeks. Yay... Looks like its a trip to the doctors today for my diclectin.

  14. ShayNanigans

    cherry / 245 posts

@DeannaY1230: I have a Starbucks addiction, but I also am not a coffee connoisseur, so I've been doing decaf lattes! I also do a glass of wine per week. Could probably have more than one drink a week, but I am playing it more conservatively on the alcohol consumption. I also have a soda now and then. Trying to keep my sugar intake in check though!

Our monkey. 10 weeks. Could see the heart beating away at 180. It was waving and dancing away. The tech laughed at how big of a "cavern" I had for it!! I said lots of room for it to grow! She said everything looked great, arms, legs, heart pumping nice and fast and she could see the embilicical cord hanging. Can't wipe the grin off of our faces.

  16. Ms.Mermaid

    kiwi / 745 posts

@Deannay1230 @shaynanigans So far, the only thing that really helps my nausea is coca-cola, so I've been allowing myself to drink coke up to the 200mg caffeine limit. I know the sugar isn't good, but right now I'm sort of in survival mode. I think a small cup of coffee a day is probably perfectly fine. A lot of the regulations are more because they know large amounts cause some harm; and can't determine a safe amount because nobody wants to do that test. I plan to start letting myself have alcohol again in the 2nd trimester - although I've been seriously craving Angry Orchard the past few weeks and on Wednesday my husband took pity on me and poured me like, a quarter of a bottle and drank the rest. It was actually more than I felt totally comfortable with, but it was nice to have a little bit.

@MrsScottish Awww yay! Glad things look good!

Is anyone getting the genetic testing done at 12 weeks? I know they'll ask me on Monday whether we want it and I think we want it if the insurance covers it but otherwise I'm not sure. Anyone know what the out of pocket cost might run?

  17. DeannaY1230

@Ms.Mermaid: love seeing your little baby! So happy all is well and accounted for!! We have genetic testing scheduled for April 25th. I'll be exactly 12 weeks that day. I called my insurance - the dr they scheduled me for is in my "network" so it'll be a $25 co pay. Everything else should be covered as normal as far as I know? They do an ultrasound and blood work from what I've heard. Let me know if you find out anything different.

@Ms.Mermaid: we're doing it at 11 weeks with a genetic counselor. Appointment is two weeks from Monday. Not sure what the OOP cost is, but with our insurance it's all about meeting the deductible, so we're chalking it up to deductible payments anyway. It's really important to us to have the info, so we're willing to "splurge" a bit if we need to. We're likely doing the MaterniT21 test.

@Ms.Mermaid: I'm interested, but my husband thinks it's excessive. If it tested for the genetic markers related to autism I would get it no questions asked. That's the thing I'm most nervous about, since it runs in my family.

@thisisme: @Ms.Mermaid: (and really anyone else having trouble sleeping...) Have y'all tried Unisom? It is preg-approved as a sleep aid and for nausea. I take half a tab each night before bed and it helps me sleep better and I feel less pukey when I wake up in the middle of the night to pee. I stopped taking it for a couple of days last week and woke up in the middle of the night wretching, and even Zofran didn't help me feel better afterward. So since then I have decided that Unisom is fabulous and necessary! Some people combine it w/vitamin B6 for nausea, I haven't noticed a difference that way though.

  24. ShayNanigans

    @MrsScottish: Yay!!

@Ms.Mermaid: I think we'll be doing genetic testing.

  25. thisisme

@tororojo: does the unisom make you groggy at all in the morning? At this point I've joked that I'd like to sleep with an IV of fluid so I don't have to drink water and a catheter so I do t have to pee. Sounds like heaven!

@Ms.Mermaid: I don't think we'll do any genetic testing. We had the option of doing it before we transferred the embryo and decided not to. We know for sure that DH is a carrier for the CF gene, but I'm not. It's a recessive gene so we know at most our child will be a carrier. What type of genetic testing are you considering? A blood test or something more invasive? We haven't gotten to that discussion with our doctor yet.

@MrsScottish: so cute! Also, I took a nap on the floor of my classroom today while the kids were at PE.

@DeannaY1230: I had one cup if caffeinated black tea yesterday after a migraine. Otherwise, I'm a complete teetotaler when it comes to caffeine and alcohol. My favorite apps are Ovia (I think I heard of that from you, @ChiCalGoBee!) and the web md pregnancy app.

  26. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@thisisme: it doesn't make me groggy, but I guess you never know- you could give it a try on a weekend and see!

  27. katieleigh_82

    cherry / 173 posts

@MrsScottish: Yay so happy your scan went well and you got to see your little bean!

@tororojo: Good to know that Unisom is ok to take. I used to take it, and over time it stopped working for me, and I had to be placed on prescription ambien which I have obviously now been avoiding taking. Working 3rd shift has always messed with my sleep schedule and it is now worse than ever so maybe I'll give Unisom another try.

So I made a final attempt with my dad to try to get them to meet up with us and was again met with excuses of why they couldn't do it, so I literally said to him. Well there was something we wanted to talk to you guys about and we really wanted to do it in person, but since that is proving damn near impossible these days, you're going to be a grandpa. Of course he was then 'excited' for us and apologized and said "leave it to me to screw things up as always". He also bailed on my nursing school graduation party an hour before it was supposed to start because he was "sick" and that was the day DH had planned to not only ask him for his blessing but to propose to me as well. So he ended up having to get one of my friends to hi-jack my phone to get my dad's phone number while I was busy getting stuff together for the party, and ended up having to get his blessing over the phone. Anyone detecting a pattern here?!?! It's a wonder it even upsets me anymore you'd think I'd be used to it.

On a happier note, only 2 more days until our 1st appointment and ultrasound!!!!!

  28. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@katieleigh_82: yay that your appointment is so soon! I hope you're able to get some good rest in, with or without a sleep aid. Sorry that your dad has been flaky when it comes to important stuff- it sucks being let down, but I think it's good that you still give him the benefit of the doubt. He will be the one missing out if he doesn't choose to have an active role as a father and grandfather, but still I hope things improve!

@thisisme: cool! Glad there's another Ovia user. I like the little handprint comparison thing

Can't wait for updates from @Freckles: and @Ms.Mermaid: ultrasounds!!

@tororojo: Mine says girl! DH says he thinks it's a boy, though he would loveloveLOVE a girl. We're doing an early gender prediction at the end of the month! I'll be almost 14 weeks.

Anyone else getting an early ultrasound gender prediction? I am getting one on the 24th of this month and can't wait! It's going to be at one of those places that gives you a DVD of the images and I believe does 3D! So excited

Hey guys, so my ultrasound went pretty well - they had to do it intravaginally but she saw the yolk, sac, pole and heartbeat. My EDD of Nov 28 is Nov 30, DH's birthday. Did anyone have their EDD change after going in for an ultrasound?

@katieleigh_82: Sorry to hear that your dad ruined the announcement. But i hope he soon realizes the importance of his role as a grandpa.

@Freckles: Yes, mine has changed so many times! It's 10/27 based on ovulation, It went to 10/29 at the very first US then changed to 10/25 later on. At the last US I got measurements on all those dates haha. I'm keeping it 10/25 because it's just easier. I will change your EDD on the calender to the 30th

I've been somewhat MIA....chasing a toddler, working and sleeping will wear you out I think I might be over the worst of the fatigue, I haven't napped since Saturday. Woohoo! I just want to eat all.the.time.

Oh and I bought some maternity clothes at H&M yesterday---yay! I have a ton of stuff from my first pregnancy, but a lot of it is "work" clothes, which aren't really appropriate for sitting in dirt/sand/water/etc all day with my kiddo this time They had some really cute things!

I don't have my next appt until sometime in early May, when I'm 14 weeks since we chose to skip the NT scan....so long to wait!!

  36. Ms.Mermaid

    kiwi / 745 posts

Ultrasound went well - they put my due date at 10/31 based on LMP but I'm figuring I'll just keep straddling this board and the October board, since November is more likely anyway. They had to do a transvaginal to be able to date more accurately, which was a bit unpleasant but not too bad. I had been told by my sister to have a full bladder, but nobody at the dr's office said to do that and they made me give a urine sample first thing, so maybe they don't think it's necessary?

Heartbeat is 178 bpm, so that is good, I think. Also, my next appointment is 5/19 - so 6 weeks from today? I thought they were supposed to be a month apart? I dunno. But at least I didn't have to wait as long as I did last time (30 minutes today as opposed to 40 minutes the last time.)

I'm not yet 30, so insurance is unlikely to cover first trimester genetic screening and it'll likely cost like, 2k out of pocket, so I think we're going to have to opt out of it. I'm going to call my insurance company tomorrow and find out.

  37. katieleigh_82

@tororojo: @ChiCalGoBee: @Freckles: thanks ladies. I truly hope you guys are right and this will be a turning point in our relationship. I have always tried to put my faith in him that he could change. If he doesn't this time I think I'll be done.

@Freckles: @Ms.Mermaid: yay so glad both of your scans went so well!

@petuniasandpearls: I had no idea that H&M had maternity clothes!

@Ms.Mermaid: That's odd my Dr told me to come with a full bladder which I know is required to do the ultrasound externally. To do it internal your bladder can be empty. Maybe they just knew they would do it internal based off your dates. I have a feeling for mine they will try external but will likely have me empty out and do internal since I'm only 8 weeks.

@Ms.Mermaid: I have never had to have a full bladder for an ultrasound, and between last pregnancy and this one I've had 3 transvag ones and 3 abdominal ones. I think it depends on age/quality of the machine. I'm thankful I always have to give a urine sample first, since I'm peeing at least once an hour these days!

We aren't doing the first tri screening and I'm not paying for any fun ultrasounds, but I look forward to hearing about/seeing the ones on this board! My next one should be the gender scan, I believe in June sometime.

We told the rest of m family last night. My mom and I decised a plan that we took an ultrasound pic and a pic of my nieces and nephew sitting on my grandmas lap and put them in a frame together. There was one for my grandma to open and one for my nieces to open. It said 3+1 November 2014. The girls didn't get it. My SIL asked them what do you think tht means... How many great grand kids sitting on great grandmas lap.... My grandma got it but thought it was my SIL announcing again!! She said nope not me!! Then my niece said "auntie" and my grandma covered her mouth and started crying saying " oh my, oh my oh my,," cue the tears from my mom and I!! My nieces freaked out and my brother was shocked!! My grandma was so excited. She whispered to me when she hugged me that she has been hoping that this would happen so that she can meet and get to know my kid. Cue more tears. She it's turned 85. So good. I got it on camera too!!

Told my boss today and one of my closest work collegues. They were both so excited for me!! I was nervous to tell her!! She was more focused on how I was feeling, to just let her know if I need time off etc and did not even ask when I plan to go off, come back etc! My old boss- those would be her first questions!!

I am announcing the to rest of the staff tomorrow with pink and blue cupcakes at our staff meeting. It is the only time, once a month that we are all together. I was originally thinking of waiting till after Easter but I can't anymore!! After seeing baby on Friday I am ok. If something. Were to happen that's ok. I can't hide it anymore and I want to enjoy it not be afraid and hide it. So I baked 35 cupcakes and my nieces came over and helped me ice them all. I am very excited!!
