Ok...sleep may have been crap today, but Hyla took a 3oz bottle from me after my class! I also didn't die during Barre today, but we'll see how I feel tomorrow.

@evansjamie: yay! My LO loved the ergo. We didn't get the insert. I just rolled up a receiving blanket and she sets up on that so her legs aren't splayed out just yet. We were able to do church and the grocery store yesterday when she was in the ergo.
LO nursed this evening on both sides, was still starved so we fixed her a bottle of bm. Well, she got choked while drinking and then projectile vomited it all back up. On me. It was lovely.

Another 6 hour sleeping stretch for LO! That's the third time this week,,, now to get him to do it every night.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@TFrances: we are up because LO started coughing after nursing her last session and I freaked out. I don't want to lie her down in her back. I hate coughing and I hate not knowing if something is wrong with my baby.

Lucy went to sleep at 1030 last night! But then woke up at 2:15, 4, 5:30, and 7:30. If she doesn't go back down for a couple hours I am going to be such a zombie.

M is going on 48 hours since his last "good" poop. When I changed him in the motn he had an actual turd still stuck that he couldn't get out. I'm trying not to freak but we've been giving him gas drops and he's never pooped a formed turd or gone this long without a good poop.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ladybee: Maybe call your ped? I think that means he's constipated. Everything I've read says babies shouldn't have formed poos until they are eating solids.
@Jennimac: Don't you love the projectile vomit!
Hyla went to bed at 11:30 last night, woke up at 4:00, and now is up at 8:21. Naps definitely helped yesterday, even if they were crappy and short.

What do your babes wear to sleep? E sleeps with the miracle swaddle (it has flaps to pin their arms down, otherwise she was always getting her arms up and out) and after a few hours (either 2nd wakeup, or 1st wakeup if she has a long stretch- usually around 5-6am) she is just NOT HAVING IT. Kicking her legs up and arching her back fighting to get out. I will attach a pic in a few I tried a sleep sack last night... usually (lately) she's been sleeping with just one wakeup around 4 or later. Last night with the sleep sack she went down around 11 or so, woke up at 1:30 or so, then 4:15, then was UP up until 6 (yay... that was fun) and then slept from around 6 until after I started work at 8 (DH's turn!) No idea what else to try, now I'm scared to try sleep sack again since last night was so "bad" (bad for E.) I wish the Merlin Sleep Suit came in a size smaller than 3 months.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: Hyla sleeps in footie PJ's, but we have never swaddled. The sleep sack might fit Effie since she is so long.
Hyla took an hour nap this morning. It was GLORIOUS!

So, I made another post about this, but I was nursing LO this morning and when we were done she got choked and coughed and I freaked. It took a few seconds to catch her breath and I spazzed out. I found her sucky bulb and auctioned her mouth a little bit. Googling was the devil because it told me that any time an infant has a cough at her age, you immediately go to dr. Then I was worried it was whooping cough and she just hasn't shown any other symptoms. Seriously. I could be certifiable. I held her while I was wide awake for an hour and a half. Then I put her down because I was exhausted. She was fine and is fine this morning. We were going Friday to have her 2 month shots and visit, but our wether is suppsed to be horrible and we don't do winter weather where I live. Like people spazz out. So I called this morning and I got her appt changed to tmrw, which is awesome, especially given my worries about LO, but it means we leave our other home today instead of Thursday. DH made some jokes about it and I cried. Then he realized that he shouldn't have done that. We could have had an appt on Thursday, but it wouldn't have been with her pediatrician. I really want him to see her because I have a lot of questions and I think she has an umbilical hernia and I want to see what he suggests we do about it.

@Jennimac: I'm sorry your husband made a joke about it. Hyla has been choking and coughing when nursing as well. I talked to our ped at her one month visit and she said that it's fairly normal. I hope you get some answers and reassurance tomorrow at the doctor.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: I think I will. Just some reassurance will be nice. We don't do a one month visit and it's been about 5.5 weeks since we've been there.
I know he hates for us to leave and that's why he was making a joke about us leaving. I just hated it, especially since I think that sometimes he resents me because we live in two places because of our jobs.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: Is there an option for either one of your jobs to move? I hate the living apart thing too.

Well, we had our 2 month check-up. LO was a champ! She is also a little chunk. she is 12 lbs 5 oz (89%), 23 in long (79%), and her head is 39.5 (74%). I love my ped. He answered all my questions, didn't think I was crazy, and gushed about how pretty and sweet LO is. Of course, I agreed.
she cried a little with her shots and I nursed her afterwards in the car. She was great after that, so we ran some errands since we are expecting an ice storm this weekend. Then, when we got home, LO was upset. I think her legs were really hurting her so I gave her some Tylenol (infants) and nursed her and she is currently asleep on my chest. I'm going to lay her down and hopefully get some things done around the house. In all my sadness of yesterday and leaving early, it all works out because LO had her appt today and we are headed to our other home tomorrow because daddy wasn't going to be able to make it up here. Rather than us get stuck up here and miss out on a long weekend with daddy, we are headed to him! So happy and excited everything worked out.

@kjpugs: We started swaddling with regular blankets in the beginning but LO would get out, so we switched to the Velcro SwaddleMes and liked those a lot. Tonight though I tried one of her Halo sleepsacks with the swaddle and I'm a convert! The swaddle portion is wide and long so it's easy to get a good wrap, and the best part is that it zips up so you can unzip to check or change a diaper without swaddling! Revolutionary. I also like that you can easily take their arms out without taking off the whole thing - LO hates to eat with her arms in. I had put off using them because they didn't seem snug enough but I actually think she might sleep better not so tightly bound. Oh, and I don't know if it's just the organic ones but the fabric is very soft. (Can you tell I am a fan?)
@Jennimac: Sorry about your stressful cough incident! LO coughs after eating & I was so worried it was reflux but her ped doesn't seem concerned at all. Also, your poor baby with her shots! I am already dreading it...
Tomorrow (er, today) I'm going to a BFing support group because they have a scale so I can do a weighed feeding and see how much LO is getting without having to pay my LC to come back. Six weeks and we are still having to supplement unfortunately. I am very nervous to "come out" to them with my low supply & the fact I don't EBF as I assume they are all "lactivists." Wish me luck!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Jennimac: Does your LO sleep in her carseat? M hates being strapped in the carseat and cries so I stay in back with her while DH drives. I haven't been able to take her anywhere by myself yet because she throws a fit!
@daniellemybelle: We've been using the Halo swaddle sacks since M was a few weeks old. She let us know from the day she was born that swaddling with arms in just wasn't going to happen. She broke out every time and then got upset when we put her arms back in. So the Halo sacks have been great because they give her that security of being tightly bound but her arms can move freely. P.S. I LOLed at "lactivists". Good luck today!

Naps have been getting much better, but nighttime sleep has gone to hell. I'm lucky if we get one three hour stretch, and everything else is barely two hours. I'm so tired!
apricot / 286 posts
@Abbylyn: We seem to be in the same boat this week. LO was sleeping a 4-5 hour stretch at night and the rest were 3 hours. Now he's waking almost every 1 1/2 hours, but sleeps a good 2 - 2 1/2 hour nap during the day. I'm baffled... and ridiculously tired.
apricot / 298 posts
@TFrances: same! How old is your LO? Lucy is 7.5 weeks, and just started a wonder week. This is gonna be rough.
apricot / 286 posts
@abbylyn: Arthur is also 7.5 weeks. It must be the start if the next wonder week. I finally got him to sleep 2.5 hours this morning by putting him in our bed with me... Really don't want yo keep doing that.
apricot / 286 posts
@abbylyn: just reread the second leap info... Arthur's definitely showing signs of almost all of the behaviors listed. This must be the cause of his sleep issues.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@TFrances: I'm jealous of your 2.5 hour nap. Hyla will nap for 40 minutes. Her wonder week started at Thanksgiving, so naps and sleep were HELL. She did four hours last night, but I am tired. I honestly don't know how I will function at work in January.

@Evansjamie: Adorable! Arthur tries really hard but he only gets to chew on the side of his fist.

@MapleMoose: Haha - thanks! I didn't invent the term.
The support group went well today. There was another mama there who is having issues & so I was not alone in giving a bottle, and I didn't feel judged. There was a LC there who was helpful though she gave some advice that slightly contradicts my LCs. I feel like there are so many different ideas about BFing! She was in agreement with my LC that I need to be pumping to increase my supply... which I have given up. Sigh. I am going to get back at it next week, and see what happens. I hate the time it takes away from my LO.
Good news is that there was a scale at the meeting and LO is gaining weight like gangbusters! I wish it was all from me, but she is a healthy baby & that's what matters.
Naps/Sleep - LO is a decent nighttime sleeper though she'll have a rough one every few days where she just doesn't seem to get into a deep sleep. Her naps are crap. It's not so much that she won't sleep long - she will take at least one nap a day, if not two, that are longer stretches. It's that she takes FOREVER to go down for a nap & cries (not fusses, full on screams) before she falls asleep every time. I have no idea why girlfriend hates naps so much! Naps are great! I feel like we are going to have to nap train eventually so she can learn to go to sleep on her own.
apricot / 298 posts
@daniellemybelle: how long is she awake before you put her down to nap? I only just learned that they only stay awake 1-1.5 hours at this age, and that was a total revelation. I had been missing her sleep cues and waiting til she was screaming to try and get her down, and it definitely wasn't working. Now I swaddle her and start getting her ready for nap time after I see a couple of yawns, and it's been much better. Still takes 20 minutes and/or a couple of tries a lot of times, but it's much smoother.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@abbylyn: My ideal schedule is nap time 1.5 hours after she last woke up to avoid that very problem but she still fights it! I definitely need to pre-empt the overtiredness better though. We have a swing we borrowed, and that has been helping. It makes a good transition from playtime to naptime.
We have been dabbling with cosleeping lately & man, is that a slippery slope! I can tell she prefers to sleep on or next to me now instead of her RnP. I need to break this bad habit! It's just so much easier to feed her in bed some nights when I am so tired.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@MapleMoose: she normally does. Yesterday's car trip was the trip from hell. If she wasn't asleep, she screamed. I hate to drive with my hand back there holding her pacifier in. We finally made it down here, but I was worn out.
She slept horribly yesterday and finally fell asleep around 10. Today has been so much better so far. She has had two great naps and is currently on her third. I hope she will sleep well tonight.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: Co-sleeping is a slippery slope! I can't even get her in her crib now for a nap.
All naps today have been in the swing. Therefore, all naps have been 1.5 hours. Therefore, Mama has been doing some things for me, like sewing. Mama is happy. Maybe swing naps are bad, I don't know, but if she sleeps longer than 40 minutes and I don't have to fight her to sleep, it's all good.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: swing naps are okay! In my opinion. we let LO sleep on her side for naps since we don't swaddle for naps. She sleeps better on her side than her back for naps.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: Lo sleeps on her side at night with me. She likes to curl up with my boob. It's sweet.

Guess who is sleeping in her crib rightthissecond? Hyla. And guess who got her to sleep there? Daddy. She had a big afternoon experiencing her first snow!

@Evansjamie: That is a great picture. Arthur will be experiencing his first snow when we fly back to Indiana for Christmas. I can't wait to see his face!

Hubs and I went to a movie this afternoon while his parents watched Lucy. To my surprise, they actually put her down for a nap instead of holding her the whole time! She took a 2.5oz bottle for them, and since she was sleeping when we got home, I'm pumping now. Almost 4oz already and I still have 5 minutes to go!
apricot / 286 posts
After three horrendous nights of not sleeping, LO was back to his usual 3-4 hour night schedule. Woo hoo! I never thought I would be so excited for three hours of sleep at a time, but this is glorious. Hoping it continues for the rest of the week...

@Abbylyn: How exciting for date night! Hope you guys enjoyed your movie. And congrats on the pumping. Keep it going (if you can).
