@Jennimac: I hear ya, my little bitty was up til past 2 which is unheard of for her. She also projectile spit up all over us, and then (lightly) bonked her head- which just pissed her off even more. Quite an evening for both of us.

And re: my aunt's sister- my aunt told me he had like 200oz freezer stashed from her most recent baby- when she was less than 4 months old. Soooo I guess their family are just milk cows naturally. They're so sweet and encouraging though I can't stay mad at them

@evansjamie: Don't feel bad - I thought the same thing about that post! LO is a good nighttime sleeper for the most part but really needs lots of rocking & soothing to take naps. Hopefully things iron out over time but if not, we will nap train at 10 weeks. I'm basing that off the book Bed Timing - 2.5 months is supposedly a good time to start sleep training. (I think Mr Bee wrote a post about it.)

Hey ladies! Hope you all had a nice weekend. Although I think Alex is too young, I am eager to get him a bit more on a schedule. What are you gals thinking of with your LO's?

  4. TFrances

    apricot / 286 posts

@Sadieloo: I would love to get Arthur on a more set schedule, but I really don't know when I should start pushing. I don't even remember when and how I did it with the twins 10 years ago...

@Sadieloo: I'm trying to stick to the EASY schedule. I've noticed she's falling into her own schedule of sorts. She goes to bed between 10 and 11, wakes up between 3-4, then again between 5-6. Naps are iffy.

  6. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@TFrances: I hear you. I think I am going to try to keep some of our activities consistent and see if that helps him fall into a schedule a bit more.

@evansjamie: I forgot about the EASY schedule! Naps are very iffy around here, as is only eating every 3 hours. Some day...

Another question for everyone. I am trying to think of a cool gift to give my hubs and other family members (obviously centered around the babe). Any thoughts?

Lucy gained 15oz in the last week. Holy moly.

@Sadieloo: @TFrances: @evansjamie: DD has somewhat of a nighttime "schedule" for the most part but daytime naps are completely random and hard to come by. I've also been thinking about sleep training lately, at least for naps. M is only 6 weeks old so I'm not quite ready to start but doesn't hurt to read up on it and get myself prepared. I hope to get her to nap without being held before she starts daycare in January.

@MapleMoose: we are in the same boat. I've been trying EASY but he decides when and where he sleeps so it's hard. He starts day care in two weeks. I'm kinda hoping they can nap and crib train him.

  11. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@abbylyn: wow0! Way yo go Lucy!

@MapleMoose: that's my feeling as well. Alex I'd just over 7 weeks and to young fir any real training yet. Alex will only sleep on someone about 90% of the time.

@MapleMoose: @evansjamie: @Sadieloo: @TFrances: Jack will be 10 weeks tomorrow and we are finally getting good naps. He eats a lot every 90 mins or so but he's giving us multiple naps in his crib. None of this happened until he got through the 2nd leap though so I think it could be a developmental phase.

Schedules: We do EASY, and I try to get her down for a nap 1.5 hours after the start of her feeding, so that she can get about a 1.5 hour nap before she eats again. Our struggle is that she fusses before sleep every time. It can take a good 30 minutes to get her down. I am anxious to nap train but we will probably wait until 10 weeks. As for her nighttime schedule, right now it's not so bad. One MOTN wakeup & she goes right back to sleep. She wakes up early at 4-5am but I treat it like a nighttime feeding by keeping my voice low, no stimulation etc. and she usually goes back down fairly easily & sleeps 3-4 more hours.

What do you all consider "bedtime"? It seems like most older babies go to bed before 8pm. We usually do our last feeding at 9:30-10 so she isn't asleep until about 11.

@daniellemybelle: I am trying to start a routine at 8:00, but it just isn't working right now. Actually, I'm doing the last night feed right now. She should be good until anywhere between 3 and 5 in the morning, but who knows how it will go since she slept all day today.

@jetsa: how long are his naps? Alex naps best when he's either on me or in his car seat and all toasty. I've been getting about 1-2 hours in the AM and that is usually his best nap. I keep thinking that everything Will get better at 2 months (next week for us), but friends have been telling me it's more like 3 months. If only baby's were predictable, right?

@Sadieloo: his naps have been consistently 2+ hours in the morning and another at least hour in the afternoon. Yesterday he took 3 naps. The trouble is I'm back to work so I'm relying on his caregivers to let me know the time and duration. I should have a pretty good idea after this weekend. I've heard. 3 months is the magic time. 2 months wasn't it but here we are 10 days later and he's so much better already.

Well we survived day one of back to work! It wasn't that bad. I did feel very stressed all day though about how much she was eating, etc. Being her primary caretaker 24/7 for 6 weeks, plus serious anxiety, equal stress for me. Speaking of, I got cleared for everything at my appt yesterday, and also got birth control and some post partum anxiety meds. I'm not having any PPD but am MAJORLY struggling with anxiety. Which I have a history with, so no surprise. Hopefully it helps.

Regarding Effie- she is stressing me out today! She is eating and SLEEPING a lot. Like slept most of the day. I took her temp and it was completely normal. I just can't believe how hungry and sleepy she is. Anyone else? She did hold her head up today Way Longer than usual though so maybe it's a developing brain day. Also- she's not a big spitter upper (a few times thus far, one of which was huge) but in the last few days she has sneezed up spit up. Which REALLY pisses her off- spit up from the nose, I can't blame her. It's happened 2 or 3 times, and not right after eating. Anyone else?

This mom thing is seeming very stressful and overwhelming to me today! So much to worry about! I just want her to be healthy and happy!

@kjpugs: I'm glad your first day back went well! Hyla acted like that yesterday, she seriously only woke up to eat, then went right back to sleep. She's been holding up her head a lot during tummy time and she's so close to rolling onto her side. I hope she laughs soon.

I'm reading The No-Cry Sleep Solution right now. It's pretty interesting, but I haven't gotten to the technique part yet, I'm still in the backround information part. We also went out and got a sound machine. So far, Hyla loves the thunderstorm sound. She also loves to smile and talk to her aquarium. It's so cute!

I can't believe she's seven weeks old. Time really does fly!

@jetsa: good to know! Alex actually took some great naps today and definitely seemed to be a but more on a schedule.

@jetsa: @kjpugs: how are you handling work? I started back last week as well. I don't know about you guys, but I feel like there is not enough hours in the day!

What's a typical schedule like for you guys? I have a lot to catch up on here, but I'm on my phone so it will have to wait.

I wonder if LO is sleeping too much in the day?!? Is that a possibility at this age? This morning we woke up around 7 am, nursed, she dozed at 9 to about 10:50. Now she is asleep again. I've got to pack because we are headed down to our other house. We are going to try a formula bottle at night and see if that fills her up. She is just so hungry all the time!!!

The last few days have been a bit busy... I feel like I'm so far behind on posting.

    Highlights:
-- I had my 6 week appointment. Everything looks great. I've been cleared for all activities and got my birth control prescription. Hello sexy time! Unfortunately, I still have 18 pounds of pregnancy weight to get off. Plus, I want to lost at least 10 more to get down to my comfort weight.
-- Arthur's had a few large throw up events (way more than just spit up). He gets so upset when they happen that lots of cuddling is needed. He had one this morning while laying in my bed. Needed to change all the sheets, his clothes, and mine. Stumped as to how to fix this...
-- He's eating 4 ounces every 3 hours. We can't get him to either take more or just sleep more. Still very tired!
-- Joined a mom's group on Monday (different from the one that stood me up twice). Lots of great ladies and babies. Can't wait to meet up with them again. We walked 1.5 miles around a local lake and then had lunch in the cafe. Arthur won the most well-behaved baby award for the day.
-- DH is slowly learning to not overstimulate Arthur and just take cues from the baby instead of trying to force him to the adult schedule. We're still working on it. And I'm working on not getting upset at DH. He has to learn by himself without me nagging.

We've settled in for a nice quiet Thanksgiving with just us. We'll Facetime with the family tomorrow, but no going anywhere. I plan on shopping from the comfort of my home this weekend.

@Jennimac: Arthur sleeps a ton during the day. He's usually up and alert for a few hours in the morning and then a few hours in mid-afternoon. Other than that, he wakes up to eat and goes back to sleep. I figure all the sleep is allowing his body and brain to grow. I try to entertain him with lots of talking and toys (not that he plays with them, but he likes to look) when he's alert, but allow him downtime so he doesn't get overstimulated.

  28. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@Jennimac: I keep waiting for M to fall into some resemblance of a schedule but she hasn't yet at 7 weeks. We do a bedtime routine but it's up to DD as to when she will fall asleep and it varies how long she stays asleep at night. Daytime naps are still completely unpredictable. I try to focus on her sleepy cues and fussiness to determine when to stop playtime and focus on getting her to nap. At this point I'm not too concerned about M sleeping too much since she is growing, eating, has enough dirty diapers, and is interactive and happy when awake.

@TFrances: What a happy update! Sounds like things are going well over there.

@Jennimac: LO fights sleep but easily gets overtired & cranky if she doesn't take a nap after every feeding. It takes about an hour total for her to eat, and then she has about a 30 min window before she gets fussy. So a good day would be: 5am wakeup/eat, 6:30 nap, 8am wakeup/eat, 9:30 nap, 11am wakeup/eat, 12:30pm nap, 2pm wakeup/eat, 3:30 nap, 5pm wakeup/eat, 6:30 nap, 8pm wakeup/eat, then right back down for bed (bath &/or books to wind down). If we're lucky she's good & asleep by 10ish & sleeps til 1am. That's a PERFECT day though!

Today, I nursed in public. We were at the mall, and Hyla woke up screaming. This particular mall's family restroom does not have a nursing area, so I changed her diaper (with some random woman trying to coo at Hyla and tell her she was okay), and practically ran out in search of a quiet bench or a table in the food court. I ended up nursing outside The Cheesecake Factory as people walked by and my husband held the blanket up on one end. Only one persone gave me a dirty look, it was a man, and I stared right back at him.

    It was liberating.

@evansjamie: Wonder if his mother breastfed him. Seriously though, people need to realize there are more important things to make your opinion known about than an infant receiving nourishment in public. Good for you for giving it back to him. *high five*

@evansjamie: way to go!!! I nursed the other night at outback. LO woke up right when we got there and started crying. The waitress took my order while I was nursing. She was like, "do we have a LO under there?" Uhm, yeah.

We tried a bottle of formula tonight. We just did an ounce and LO spit most of it up when we burped her. She seemed okay about it. I nursed her then and now she is conked out on my shoulder.

@TFrances: Sounds like things are going pretty good for you! You must be so proud that Arthur was the best behaved baby

@kjpugs: Yay surviving work! Did Daddy watch her or did your nanny come?

@evansjamie: You're awesome! I have had to nurse in the car on this trip & I hate it - kudos for nursing in the mall!

As for us - we made it through our first road trip! She did really well in the car but has been out of sorts after. I am also feeling like she is not getting enough to eat, which stresses me out to deal with while with my in-laws. I am very sensitive about our BFing issues and the fact that we have to supplement, but I have to remember to do what's best for my girl... Which means I am pumping right now & she is getting a bottle to make sure she is full.

@Jennimac: @TFrances: @MapleMoose: no real schedule here either. I feel like E sleeps a ton- I have taken her temp too many times to count since I worry about it after hearing about other moms with more awake time with their babes! But when she is awake she's so happy and fantastic. We have a bedtime routine that starts around 10 (although not tonight!) but it's up to her when she will fall asleep.

@evansjamie: great job NIP!!! I am sure that takes a bit to get used to but then it will be old hat in no time. I wish I could BF so I could say $hit to anyone who dared to glare!

@daniellemybelle: I hope your trip goes well. I know what you mean about the in laws and being sensitive. I feel like mine visiting is affecting my supply

AFM, I am truly wondering 1) if my supply will level out (at a whooping 8oz a day), increase, or decrease. 2) how long ican keep up with EP. My goal is through January. We shall see!
