M crushed 6 oz between 8-9, passed out and slept for 5 hours! He did this yesterday but I was awake the whole time. This time I went to bed when he did. DH took his 1am feed so I slept 7 hours. I feel amazing!
@daniellemybelle: typically M eats between 3-4 ounces every 3 hours. The last week he's been eating 2 every 1.5 hours so I'm not sure what his deal is. He's about 5.5 weeks and a little over 11 pounds. He was almost 8 when he was born. I like bottle feeding because I know exactly how much he's getting. I envious of you BF moms though because it's pricey and I feel like it takes forever to make his bottle when he's screaming.

@daniellemybelle: I don't know how much she is getting. I know that when I give a bottle of pumped milk at night or if we are out, it's 3-4 oz. sometimes she will get a bottle at night and nurse in addition to that. I need to figure out so I can have an idea for when I go back to work.

@ladybee: BF has been pricey for us too! The amount we have spent on pumps, supplies, herbal supplements, etc.... I don't even want to tally it up. Thankfully we are still working from free samples of formula. Our pediatrician have us a bunch - maybe you could ask?
@Jennimac: I usually pump around 2 oz in a session - sometimes less. I have no idea if that correlates to how much she is getting though!

@daniellemybelle: I'm EP and M is 6 weeks today. She takes 3-4 oz per bottle, unless she's cluster feeding at night when she takes a 4 oz bottle, then we feed her 1 oz increments until she's full. She'll take 3-4 more 1 oz servings over 1-2 hours when cluster feeding.
M slept EIGHT HOURS last night!!! *happy mama* This means I didn't get up to pump and my boobs felt hard but not too painful. We have been doing a bedtime routine starting at 9pm and she's been sleeping better and longer. We turn down all the lights, stop playtime (no more talking to her, showing her items, etc), swaddle her, give her an extra warm bottle, and if she seems very awake I put her in the carrier and walk around the house until she's drowsy. If it's bath night she gets that first.

@MapleMoose: I'm so jealous of your eight hours. The thrush medication is making Hyla's stomach hurt, so she screeched off and on until about 1:30 last night. I'm going to give it to her earlier tonight in hopes that we can go to bed earlier.

@daniellemybelle: Arthur usually eats 3-4 ounces every 3 hours or so. Thankfully I think we are getting out of this Wonder Week where he was every 1.5 hours and screaming randomly. Hoping to get him to sleep more per ounce.

@evansjamie: Oh no, poor baby Hyla! I hope things go better tonight for you both!

@MapleMoose: I'm also on diflucan, so I wonder if that is contributing to the gassiness/fussiness? She's barely napped today, but she asleep in her swing right now and we're about to go to the chiropractor so she should sleep in the car.

@MapleMoose: congrats on the full night of sleep! thats an acheivement
@daniellemybelle: so far were only replacing one feeding a day with pumped milk and at 8 weeks the 6pm feeding shes getting about 3.5 oz
@evansjamie: oh no.. how long do you both need to be on the meds for it to clear up the thrush?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Chillybear: I'm on it for 14 days, she is on it for 10. I talked to my chiropractor (she's also a doula) and she recommended that I start probiotics and that I get all the sugar and dairy out of my diet (the LC recommended this as well). Looks like I'm back to the GD diet but with more calories since we are breastfeeding. It's probably a good thing because I have been craving sweets since I gave birth.
pomegranate / 3032 posts
@evansjamie: do they think the sugar aided in causing the thrush? or will that just help with the gassy upset stomach?
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Chillybear: They think it is contributing to the thrush, since yeast is in lots of sweet carny things and it loves a warm moist place to reproduce (I'm imagining them in her mouth having a party a la the Cosby Show).

@ladybee: I'm not sure how your formula mixes, but I seem to remember some people on here talking about mixing up a pitcher of formula for the day. They could figure how much their LO ate and just mixed that up for the day.

@ladybee::
Okay---this is copied from another thread about feeding twins, but I think this is what I was thinking of when I thought about pre-mixing the formula.
If you formula feed, try a variety of different systems for prepping in advance - we felt like we were drowning in formula until we found what worked for us: pre-measuring into bottles, and adding water before feeding. We tried mixing up large batches in a pitcher the night before but it became overwhelming, and when they started eating more, our pitchers weren't big enough! Incidentally, we never warmed bottles and so our girls became accustomed to drinking cool or even cold breastmilk/formula from a very early age - this has turned out to be very helpful as they are now low-maintenance eaters. Accidental, but fortuitous for us. On a similar note - have enough bottles on hand for a full day's worth of feedings plus at least one more feeding, because there will be times where you don't have a chance to wash bottles for over 24 hours. I would start with the simplest possible bottles and see if they work for you, because otherwise you will spend a lot of your life washing tiny bottle parts and putting them back together, and there are more fun ways to spend your time We use the basic Avents. And skip the 4-oz size bottles because you're eventually going to have to spend the money on the big ones anyway.

We start our first Wonder Week leap tomorrow. You guys have me terrified. Add that to the 6 week growth spurt and fussiness I keep reading about and I'll be drinking for sure!

Got stood up by another mom's group meetup. I was running 5 minutes late, posted it on meetup, arrived within that 5 minutes, and waited for 20 minutes for no one to show and no one to post anything on the page. I posted a comment after stating that no one showed up. The organizer (who was also supposed to come) posted a message stating she didn't change her RSVP and would remind everyone else to be more vigilant. Another lady posted 3 hours later to say that she waited for 5 minutes, but then left since no one came. Obviously she didn't check meetup... Duh! I think I am so done with this group. If people can't bother to update their RSVP or just show up when they say they are going to, I don't want to a part of the group.

I actually got to sleep in my own bed, without Lucy, the whole night last night! She was up from 3-4:30 to eat and hang out, but eventually went back down in the rock and play, no screaming fits! I feel sane again.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@ladybee: hang in there! It will pass and you will soon forget it. I have!
@TFrances: that's so frustrating and rude!!!!!
@abbylyn: that's awesome!!!
I've been up since 4:30 because LO got up to eat and I'm so excited about going to my mom and dad's. we have so much to pack! It's nuts, but all my sisters will finally get to meet her!!! One lives out of state and couldn't get here until now. My aunt is riding with us, so she will sit in the back with LO and comfort her if she fusses.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: Hopefully it's like mine and only lasts for a couple of days.
What do you guys dress you LO's in to go out? Usually I put a onesie and pants on her, but yesterday she wore a onesie and baby legs to Mom's group and one of the ladies next to me said, "Oh, she's wearing her pajamas today too! Hers are cute though." My kid sleeps in footed sleepers and only wears them out if it's cold. I wish moms didn't try to compare babies and outfits and the like.
I did meet a local Bee there though! @tlcbaby is super nice and her son is so cute!
apricot / 286 posts
@Evansjamie: Arthur usually wears a onesie and some pants. Possibly a sweater or a jacket. While he doesn't usually wear sleepers out of the house that's more due to him spitting up on them than a fashion choice. I can't believe that mom said that to you. Oh wait, yes I can. Some moms are all about comparing their babies to others to justify their thoughts of superiority. You make choices for your baby and screw everyone else.

Re: moms groups, I've been TURNED DOWN from them here since I'm not a SAHM. I've given up.
Also I was just face timing with my mom who was at my aunts. She has 4 young kids, and her sister was over with her daughter and new son. I was chatting with her bc she said she's pumping too. I said how isn't it a pain to do both and commented how during night wake ups it takes me an hour (change, feed, get her back to sleep, pump) and she said how he doesn't pump at night and she gets the same amount from her morning pump. 17 oz. SEVENETEEN OUNCES IN ONE PUMPING SESSION. I was feeling good about being up to 8 a DAY. Granted I know I have low supply but 17 in one session? Makes me want to curl up and cry about my inadequacies. Like how can you even do that without swapping bottles?!?!! Ughhhh.

@kjpugs: The most I've gotten has been 5 oz and that was when I a) ate a lactation cookie and b)Nursed Hyla on the other side at the same time.

@kjpugs: Ha, I love it! Although I must say, balancing pups and baby is much tougher than I thought it would be!

@evansjamie: I keep Alex in pjs all the time. They are way easier! That's so obnoxious of the woman. It reminds me of the saying that women only where cute shoes for other women.
@kjpugs: ridiculous that you were turned down from that group. You guys all have kids, that's the commonality! 17 oz.?!? Holy cow! My small boobs would never hold that much. That is unheard of!
@evansjamie: you got 5 oz from one boob? Amazing! Maybe I need some of those cookies!

So Alex will be 7 weeks tomorrow and has been eating like crazy and not sleeping well. Is anyone else going through this? I'm waiting for it to end assuming its a growth spurt, but it's Fridays nd he's still going strong!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: Alex and hyla must have been brainstorming ways to stay up all night. She's eating a ton and not sleeping very well. Someone took my sweet baby and turned her into a Fussy McCrankypants
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: I'm sorry that's happening to you, but I am also happy to know we are not alone! He hasn't been too fussy, except when he's letting me know just about every hour that he needs to eat! I am looking forward to the post growth spurt sleeping.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@ladybee: @Jennimac: When we use powdered formula, we mix up 16 oz at a time like Jennimac said. We also have gotten free full size samples of the ready to use liquid formula from our pediatrician which is awesome, though you still have to pour it and warm it up. Maybe portion out bottles in advance if you know how many ounces he might need at each feeding?
@evansjamie: I am so sorry about your thrush. I was thinking you & Hyla may not tolerate sugar as well because you were on the GD diet. I hope you get better soon! As for what she wears, LO wears her "pajamas" out all the time. Most of what she has are footed sleepers actually so I treat those like "outfits." She wore a gown to the pediatrician today. There's no such thing as PJs for babies really. And baby legs are awesome!
Thanks for sharing how much your babies eat. I saw my LC again yesterday & she recommended based on LO's weight (which is great now!) that we feed her 21.5 oz per day. I make about 15 oz of breastmilk a day right now, so we still need to supplement about 1 oz every feeding. I am encouraged that my supply is up & LO is nursing effectively - her last weighed feeding she got 0.5 oz vs 2.5 oz this time! I am going to stick with nursing & supplementing after for another 4 weeks and then re-evaluate.

@kjpugs: One pug, one bullmaatiff, and one cat. I can't imagine three pugs-hilarious! Thankfully my husband has really stepped up his caretaking duties, but I still feel so guilty that I'm not paying them enough attention.

@kjpugs: Holy boob juice Batman!! 17 ounces in one pumping session?!!?!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: Hyla only did that for a couple of days. Last night she went to bed at 12:30, up at 3:30, 6:30, 7:30, and now 8:30. I miss my 4 hour stretch! I really need to go to bed with her at 9 or so, maybe she would sleep longer (we're still co sleeping).
I read the post about nap training at 8 weeks and I was excited to try it and at the same time felt guilty for thinking about it. Excited for being able to put her down in her crib regularly and have her sleep well, and guilty because it involves crying and I hate to hear her cry. We talked about it and we might try it the first weekend in December after she's eight weeks.

@evansjamie: you and me both! I really, really, really hope this is just a phase.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: false alarm on AF. Whew. That stinks about the mom group. LO wears onesies and pants or a little top. Sometimes we rock the sleepers. It just depends on her mood, etc.
@kjpugs: 17 oz?!?! Whatever. The most I've gotten is 5 from one side and then total about 7 oz. that girl has a crazy supply or is just making stuff up. I can't believe you weren't allowed in the mom groups because you work. So nuts.
So, we are at my mom and dad's. LO slept horribly last night. I don't know if it was the Mocha frap in the afternoon, the little cat naps she took in the evening, or just being at a different place. She really didn't go to bed until 4:30 this morning. This after I've been up since 4:45 the morning before, packed, and traveled. Then, she was up at 7:30 this morning. I'm taking a nap today and I'm making sure that she sleeps tonight.
