Woke up this morning to my furnace making a strange noise and blowing cold air. Of course, it's the first cold snap of the season. It's not too cold in the house yet, but I hope it can get fixed today.

Lucy had her 4 week appointment yesterday.
    8lbs 4oz (22nd percentile)
    22in long 75th percentile

So basically I have a string bean she would have weighed a few oz more, but she pooped before we left the house, then again in the waiting room.

M is 4 weeks old now and waking every 2.5-3 hours to eat both day and night. I'm over it. Any tips on how to get one longer (4 hours sounds awesome) at night?

@ladybee: my babe would do the same; however, now she sleeps for 4+ hours. we achieved this by doing bottles at night. my husband feeds and I pump the next one. we basically leap frog. here is our schedule/routine:

    7 pm: bath/baby massage
    7:30 pm: nurse/lullaby
    8 pm: sleep
11 pm: wakes, husband feeds with bottle A, I pump bottle B
3:30 am: wakes, husband feeds with bottle B, I pump bottle A
    7:30 am; wakes, nurse

! She eats 4.5 oz in 20 mins including burps
! at 11 pm I pump 6.5 oz, so 2 oz goes to my stash

This week is hard. Hyla has perfected the banshee shriek and likes to use it when she's fighting sleep. Last night was an epic battle of wills. She finally gave up after 2:00, but then the dog barked for three minutes (the milk delivery came super early), so she woke up. I nursed her and then she passed out in the bassinet. I'm breaking out the lanolin again because she's nursing so much through this growth spurt. Ouch!

On the plus side, the furnace is working again. The vent motor was completely rusted and in pieces, so one $600 replacement part later, we are toasty warm again. The repairman was surprised that it lasted as long as it did.

I think we've made it out of the eating every 1.5-2 hours and back into eating every 3-3.5 hours. Thank goodness! I've actually gotten a few stretches of 3 hours of sleep this week. Hoping this continues. Plus, I think I've finally gotten the DH to understand that lights and loud noises at night overstimulate Arthur and cause him to scream. So far, so good.

Lucy hasn't pooped in over 24 hours. I know that happens with babies, but I thought it wasn't til they're a little older. So, it may be silly, but I called the doctor's office just in case. Waiting on a call back now.

  9. abbylyn

Of course she pooped while I was on the phone with the dr, who was telling me it's nothing to worry about.

@abbylyn: isn't it funny how much we care about poop now? Alex pooped 6 times yesterday. It was ridiculous. So far only once today. A lot of my friends said their baby's would go several days without pooping.

    @TFrances: yay for sleep!

@evansjamie: sorry to hear Hyla us screaming and tearing up your nips! It will be over before you know it.

@ladybee: maybe try a bottle with additional ounces of formula/milk? A has had some really crappy nights that I think coincided with growth spurts and constant nursing. Fortunately he's getting back to the longer stretches.

I had my 6 week post partum checkup today and have been cleared for everything to resume normal life (yikes). My midwife actually said that you couldn't even tell I had a vaginal delivery. Yay!

@mrs. mochi: unfortunately M is formula fed so he's getting bottles. Right now he's eating 3 ounces every time. Sometimes even 3.5. I thought for sure that'd get me more sleep!

@TFrances: yay for sleep! My DH has caught on too. Plus he's doing one night feed a few nights a week to help me out.

@Sadieloo: congrats on the check up. We have a peds appointment tomorrow and I'm going to ask for suggestions to space out night feeds.

@evansjamie: I'm sorry Hyla is struggling. It's a huge roller coaster ride isn't it. Hopefully things will get better soon. It's pretty cold here in Ohio. I'd die without heat! I'm glad you got yours fixed.

@abbylyn: I've called our ped for the same thing! M only poops once a day which seems so weird to me!

Hey everyone - hope you all are doing great! I haven't had time to totally catch up on the thread, but popping in with another quick question.

LO is definitely on a 4 hr schedule rather than 3 hr, with a couple feedings closer together before bedtime, totalling 7 feedings in 24 hrs rather than the recommended 8-10. I have tried to feed her every 3 hrs like you are supposed to, but she takes a while to go down for naps, and when she does she sleeps hard. Now that she's back to her birth weight (yay!) I am inclined to let her (okay, both of us) sleep. The only thing I worry about is my milk supply which I am still working on, but I'm not sure it's worth it to wake a sleeping baby! Thoughts?

  14. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: @ladybee: Today has been better, thankfully. I was able to take a nap and get some things done. She's sleeping now, so let's hope it continues!

@daniellemybelle: I would be inclined to roll with S's schedule too. If you are worried about supply, maybe you could throw in an extra pump session.

Had our one month check up today. M weighed 10 pounds, 7 ounces and was 21 inches long. He needs to start going to PT because he won't turn his head to the one side so I need to set that up. His doctor called it a stiff neck and did not seem overly concerned so I'm trying to keep my FTM freak out to myself

Had my six week check-up today. I'm down 20 lbs. from delivery (woo!) but part of my tear had some scar tissue that wasn't healing. They put silver nitrate on it and I'm on pelvic rest for another week or so.

  19. TFrances

    apricot / 286 posts

@Evansjamie: That sucks. Hope that tear heals quickly. I'm 4 weeks out and still have random incision pain... Wish that part would heal and be done.

After being up almost every hour from 1 - 7am, I finally caved and brought Arthur to sleep with us. I was completely freaked out about crushing him, but still managed to get better rest than I would have. DH was surprised to find Arthur between us when he woke up, didn't even realize what I did. But at least we rested/slept from 7:30-10:30 without interruptions. I am going to call that a win, but I really don't want this to become a habit. I like my bed without a wriggly tiny human in it.

Matthew was one month yesterday. We got awesome bloopers photos too. We spent our day at the doctor getting tests ran thanks to continuous projectile vomiting. After ruling out more serious issues that involved surgery he has been diagnosed with GERD which I believe is another name for acid reflux. Out of all the possibilities I am thrilled with his diagnosis!

Lucy has been fighting sleep all day, and wanting to nurse pretty much every hour. I have a feeling it's going to be a long night.

So lo has had a crap week of sleeping. She is currently asleep with a hair dryer white noise sound, wrapped up in a swaddle. We havent swaddled her since week 2 because she didnt seem to like it. Well, i dont know what exactly is working, but she is asleep so we will be doing it again tonight. It's the longest she has slept all day---over an hour. I'm letting her sleep until she wakes up. I'm currently on the couch. I think I'm going to try and get some sleep because I've been solo parenting this whole week. My mom did visit, but I've done all the night duty and I'm so tired. I hoped last night she actually would have slept, but no dice.

Look at all these cute babies!!!!! Seriously, we make adorable kids.

@abbylyn: Hopefully she's tanking up so she sleeps a nice long stretch tonight.

@Jennimac: Whatever works. We've been co sleeping the last few nights just so we could get some decent sleep.

Today has been a hard day emotionally. Just one of those days where you feel like you can do nothing right and everyone is against you. Namely, my husband. I feel better now, but I'm sensitive to tone of voice during the best of times, and some of the things he said today really upset me. We talked about it, but it doesn't make the hurt go away. I also got to visit with one of my best friends and her kids today, and it was so nice to hang out with someone who GETS what I'm going through. A lot of my friends close by are not in the same life place as I am, so I feel like they don't get it. It's hard.

On the plus side, I'm cleared for exercise, and that always helps me feel more like myself. It will be wonderful to have 30 minutes to myself.

    @kjpugs: @TFrances: @ladybee: such cuties!

@abbylyn: hang in there. I think when Alex does that it us a growth spurt and followed by some very sleep filled days.

@Jennimac: I agree with @evansjamie: do what you need to do and get some rest!!!

@evansjamie: what kind of exercise did your midwife say you could do? Mine cleared me but said no jogging because It would hurt my boobs and they would end up at my waist when I'm old.

So we're at my MIL's house for my BIL's wedding and although I am really excited for the wedding, I am not excited to get in my bridesmaids dress. Thank goodness for spanx. I'm also about to kick my husband who can't seem to stay awake to help me with the baby, yet I am he one who gets up during the night and packs everything and am even working a little. Urgghhhh.

  31. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@Sadieloo: No specifics on the exercise, but they know I'm a runner. I thing with a well fitting bra you should be able to run pain free. I've got several friends who are Breastfeeding and running without much pain or danger of their boobs hanging around their knees. I'm surprised your midwife said that.

I recommend Moving Comfort bras. Even before pregnancy, they kept the girls locked and loaded. I wasn't small chested to begin with, and these bras are AMAZING. Expensive, but worth it.

  32. Sadieloo

    kiwi / 726 posts

@evansjamie: me too! And as I said to her, I am small chested so my boobs really don't have anywhere to go. I'm feeling really good so I think I'll go for a couple of light jogs. I am really excited to get back to working out again.

So of course Alex choose last night to not sleep well. He was up every 1 1/2-2 hours (at home we are getting 3-5 hour stretches) and when I'd hear him stir and look in the pac n play his eyes would be wide open. WTF. Oh and the dog was whining throughout the night as well. It's going to be a long wedding day!!!

  33. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

She slept 4.5 hours in a row!! Then we were up for an hour and then another 2.5 hour stretch. Not much, but so much better than what we were getting. We shall see how today goes.

@Jennimac: YES! So glad you got good sleep!

I ended up bringing her in bed with me for half the night. She just wouldn't go down, so we nursed laying down, and she fell asleep for a few hours. After the next feeding, she slept in the rock and play, but then when she woke up a couple of hours later I was too tired to get up, so I pulled her in bed with me again. I don't want to do it all the time, but it did feel good to get some better sleep. And she's so sweet all snuggled up with me!

Today I get to get out of the house for a couple of hours and go get a pedicure!

  36. singingbee

    pomelo / 5073 posts

@Sadieloo: yuck! I hope today goes well!

@evansjamie: honestly, I could have gotten up at 4am because I felt so good. It's amazing what sleep can do for you.

@abbylyn: we did that yesterday morning. It was the only way we got 3 hours of sleep.

YOU GUYS. Hyla just fell asleep on her own on her play gym! Usually there is a fair amount of shushing and rocking for even naps, and lately she will only sleep on or with me. I'm currently laying on the bed with nothing touching me. It's glorious.

Had our one month check-up this week. All's well and M is almost 10 pounds! Guess the combination of expressed BM (I'm EP) and formula is working. She still won't nap during the day unless I'm holding her in my arms or the carrier, and she ranges from 3-6 hour stretches at night. Needless to say we're still pretty tired. DH went back to work a few weeks ago but I'm still enjoying the remainder of my maternity leave. I don't have a set date to return to work and I can work from home for awhile to ease back into things. We are on the waiting list for a January start at daycare.

If she's not on the boob, she's screaming so hard she's making herself sick. Her poor little face gets bright bright red, and I've never heard such big sounds come from someone so little. It's going to be a long night.
