I can't believe October babies are turning 1 month! @Jennimac: S has the same headband
@kjpugs: I'm so glad things are looking up!
@MrsTiz: I'm sorry you're having a tough time We had one of those nights last night & I almost lost it.
@ladybee: Moms are the best. I am super lucky to have mine on hand & I don't know what I'd do without her.
As for me - We saw a LC yesterday. It was disheartening to find out that LO is only getting about 1/2 an oz total from nursing. It felt good to know what's going on though & to make a plan. We are doing to try domperidone to increase my supply. I'm going going to try to be optimistic for the time being, though nursing, then supplementing, then pumping, is so exhausting.

Just pumped for the first time, about an hour after feeding Lucy, and got 2oz! Now here's hoping she doesn't want to eat for another hour or so.
Also, I definitely need one of the hands free pumping bras.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@abbylyn: Awesome! Are you wanting to increase your supply? If so, pumping right after she nurses is supposedly best. And the hands free bra is amazing!
Last night I pumped & we fed LO bottles rather than nursing. Back in bed so much faster & LO was such a happy camper & slept great. I think we will pump for night wake-ups from now on.

@MrsTiz: I'm sorry yesterday was so hard. I'm still struggling day to day as well. I can't help but wonder how much the PPD has to do with the ups and downs. Are things better today? We spent 4 days with my mom where I had constant support and help. I'm dreading this week alone again.
apricot / 298 posts
@daniellemybelle: not trying to increase, just want others (especially daddy) to be able to feed her once in awhile. Before I go back to work in January I'll start building up a stash.

The kid's already had three wardrobe changes today (and mom one) due to projectile spit up. When does the madness end?

@TFrances: I hear ya. I had a DRY diaper but wet outfit up her back. HOW? I just can't figure out the physics of it.
apricot / 298 posts
Well, she inhaled the 2oz from the bottle, then fed on my boob for another 15 minutes. I'm telling you, I don't have a baby, I have a piglet.

BFing mamas: How cautious are you about your diet? LO seems to have a sensitive tummy so I try to avoid the usual suspects like tomato sauce & broccoli. My ped said chocolate is a common issue so I'm avoiding that too, sadly. I'm also not drinking caffeine at all... But I want to REALLY bad. A Diet Coke could really help me get through the day! I might give it a try... Any of you having a little caffeine?
pomelo / 5073 posts
@daniellemybelle: I've not been too cautious, but I drank coke while I was pregnant (gasp!) it doesn't affect LO and neither does chocolate when I eat it. I noticed she was a little upset when I are a spicy sushi roll and when I had several bowls of ice cream in one day.
kiwi / 726 posts
@daniellemybelle: I haven't been watching my diet too much either. I typically have one latte a day at home. As with all things baby, I know there are many thoughts on what makes babies gassy. We go to an integrative pediatrician and they suggested I watch my gluten and dairy intake if LO is gassy. Looks like I'm not the only one doing late night feedings

@Sadieloo: we've been up and down. She wakes up when I transfer her to the pnp. Now I'm feeding her again in hopes that I can lay her down without her waking up. She didn't sleep well last night and I've been exhausted all day and then this night she isn't sleeping well. Tired. All I can say.

Hi ladies! I hope everyone is having a great day. We are visiting friends for a conference, and traveling with a baby is no joke! I was supposed to spectate at a race, but after a full day of travel (seriously, it took us four hours to make a two hour drive) on Friday and a conference yesterday, I couldn't imagine making another hour or so trip to the race and then a 3-6 hour trip home, depending on how many stops we needed to make. I do look forward to getting home; I stressed out a lot about any noises Hyla made, especially at night.
Here's a picture of my cuddle bug right now. She is definitely not a morning person! She also refused to be put down to sleep yesterday, so co-sleeping it was!
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: seriously, traveling with a baby adds like a full day to whatever you are doing. You have to add the extra time it takes to pack, the lists of everything to bring, the stops you might have to make if the baby needs to eat, etc. I used to get up the morning of pack, load the car, and leave on time. So not happening anymore. I'm already packing things for our trip over thanksgiving. We are going to my parents and then down to our other house the next week. I'm already dreading it a little, but I know it will work out.

@daniellemybelle: I haven't been too cautious. I have a beer most evenings, and the occasional soda or coffee, and haven't noticed it affecting Lucy. However, the night I had brussel sprouts and a whole bunch of pork belly for dinner, she was not a happy baby.

@Jennimac: Oh gosh, I can't believe how much stuff babies need! Most of our bags were for her. Her clothing bag, her regular diaper bag, the diaper bag with all the sposies for the weekend/wipes, her Moses basket (to use at the hotel; our friends had a pack-n-play for is to use), the stroller and the wrap. Then there was my bag, my husband's bag, and his poster for presentation. We drive a Versa. I can see now why people get minivans or SUV's when they have kids.

Holy crap! The DH just let me sleep for 6 hours straight. Feeling a bit groggy but so much better than yesterday. I wish all my weekends could be like this. Now I'm not completely dreading my sunrise with Arthur. He's been like my little rooster lately, waking up as the sun rises. At least it's kind of pretty.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: yes!!! DH is still on the fence whether we will have more, but I could totally see getting a van with just one so you could have the room. Btw, we have started using our wrap because LO isn't sleeping anywhere unless it's on me. Biggest life changer ever. I'm actually able to get some things done. I can't do everything, but it's helping!
@TFrances: that's awesome!!! LO has been up every hour or two the past two nights and I'm exhausted.
kiwi / 726 posts
@Jennimac: what wrap do you have? I think I need to get one as well because Alex is only sleeping on us for naps. At night, he will sleep in the bassinet but even that is wishy washy.
@evansjamie: ugh. We have a trip next weekend and I am dreading it. Any tips?
pomelo / 5073 posts
@Sadieloo: we are wearing the boba wrap.
As for traveling, I started making a list of what LO needed and what I needed. I started packing a basket with things I could already pack. I kept an average of how many diapers she uses in a day and then added some extras. I packed extra outfits for each day. I had to pack the car by myself so I waited until she was asleep and loaded it. I fed her and then we left. She did a great job. Our car trip was 3 hours both ways.

We switched LOs formula and the last 24 hours have been hell. On the bright side, I'm back to my pre-preg weight and would like to lose another 5-10. I guess depression does wonders for weight loss.
4 weeks post.
kiwi / 726 posts
@Jennimac: thanks for the tips! I should probably start packing in was well
@ladybee: you're already at your pre-preg weight? Holy crap! My weight loss seems to have plateaued and I still have 15 lbs to go but would prefer to lose another 20.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: I have a Boba too and love it, but you have to make sure and get it really tight before you put LO in it. I'd love to get a boba carrier or beco/ergo as a more structured one. As for travel, I overpacked on the clothes. Since it was cool I kept her in sleepers, but we needed two a day, so pack extra clothes. I also had a separate bag for diapers/wipes so I didn't have to dig around while changing her.
@ladybee: I've still got 15 lbs. to go to pre-preg weight. How are you feeling?
pomelo / 5073 posts
@ladybee: looking good!!! I've gotten to pre-pregnancy weight but I think that's because my body and bp were high during pregnancy so I lost a lot of fluid. You look fabulous!!! Hang in there!
@Sadieloo: I'm making a master list so I know what I usually will bring. WB have a lot of extra diapers and wipes, so I'm starting that bag. I did what @evansjamie: did and had a separate bag for diapers and wipes. I packed her diaper bag for in and out of car activities.
@evansjamie: and @Sadieloo: yes---the boba should be tight, like wonder if you can fit your LO in tight. We have an ergo, but no infant insert. I did see some YouTube videos on how to use a receiving blanket instead. We haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping to soon. Maybe tonight at church.

@evansjamie: Honestly, I'm feeling pretty low. I'm struggling at feeling competent at this parenting thing which is upsetting because I've never wanted anything more.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ladybee: You are doing a GREAT job! Parenting is tough and the hardest thing we will do. You are an excellent mom, M is so lucky that he has a mom that worries and wants to do everything right for him. Chin up. Everyday, it will get easier and harder.
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@evansjamie: You're right. Todays been hard but tomorrow could be great and every week is getting easier and easier. I'm such a sleeper, I think everything will look a lot brighter when M is sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night instead of 2.5-3. How is Hyla doing? Do you go back to work soon? I can't believe how fast maternity leave is flying by!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ladybee: I need my sleep too. The nights where she gets up every hour or so are brutal and my outlook is grim. Hyla is great, she's fussing on FaceTime with her Dad and Moomaw right now. She's tired.
So we stayed with friends this weekend in their nice clean house and now we are at home and realize how much of a sty it has been since Hyla was born. Ugh. We're going to put her in the wrap so she will nap and we can pick up/clean a bit.

@evansjamie: thanks for the tips! We're going to be at a wedding in CT and the high is 54 so we'll def need some warm clothes. We have the ergo and love it, especially since Alex always falls asleep in it that said it is hot as heck!
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: I hear you! I feel like no matter how much I straighten and pick up, we have stuff EVERYWHERE. It makes me a little crazy. I know I should let it go but I hate clutter!
@ladybee: hang in there! I honestly don't think there is anything worse than sleep deprivation (thus why it's used as a form of torture). Completely agree with @evansjamie: you're a great Mama, exemplified by the fact that you are giving M everything you have. In the tough moments and long nights (I was up from 1:30-4:30 this AM as DH snored away), I try to remind myself that while these early weeks are rough, I also need to cherish them because he won't be little and cuddly and need me ALL the time forever. *hugs*

Thanks for the support ladies. I don't know what Id do without HB. Little man went down at 7 and I went down at 8:30. DH took the 10 feed. It's amazing how much better life looks when you've slept.

@ladybee: glad you hit some rest! It really us amazing what a little extra sleep will do!

@ladybee: I'm glad you got some rest!
As for us...Hyla is in a Wonder Week, which explains her behavior, but I am TIRED. She fought sleep SO hard. I didn't get to sleep until close to 3:00 this morning. She would sleep in our arms, but heaven forbid you put the girl down. She was not pleased, but finally was too exhausted to fight it. I hope tonight is better.
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@evansjamie: I downloaded the wonder week all but Matthew is still a few weeks away since he came early. I know nothing about them except that I've heard of them on HB lol

We're rocking the geek wear today... We walked to one of our favorites restaurants today to meet a friend for lunch. Arthur did so well with the outing and meeting a new person. And it felt good to get out of the house and doing something. I even showered and put on a pretty outfit. Plus, I did dishes and laundry. Feeling very good and productive today. Only wish every day was this good.
watermelon / 14467 posts
So...I'm currently sitting in the parking lot of Target in a jacket and tunic. Not exactly decent, but better than sitting here in poo soaked leggings, tunic, and jacket. Hyla peed on her onesie in Half-Price while I was changing her, so I changed her into her backup outfit and went to the car to nurse her. And then her diaper EXPLODED. Poop up the back, out the sides, on me and the seat. I didn't have a second backup outfit, so she's in her car seat in just a diaper.
It's a two shower day for us both. Motherhood is glamorous.
kiwi / 726 posts
@TFrances: such a cutie! And yay for the small victories of shower, dishes and laundry.
@evansjamie: oh man! We've definitely had some days like that too. I hope you weren't too frustrated and could see the humor in it all.
Speaking of showers....just wanted to share in case it's helpful to anyone. We have discovered that Alex loves showers! He loves being in the water, the skin to skin, and I also think he loves the sound of the shower as he's always super chill in his bassinet (I shower first and then bring him in).
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: It's a lot funnier now that I've showered. At one point my husband turned on the car light while my boob was still out, and I screeched "TURN OUT THE LIGHT!!!"
Mommy and baby are glad to be clean.
kiwi / 726 posts
@evansjamie: he did what?!? Oh man! I would have been freaking out. Nothing like being clean
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: He was trying to see the extent of the poop, but we were in a crowded parking lot. Also, regarding the shower, that's how I bathe Hyla. She loves it! And I love that she's smiling now when she's in the bath.
