Random vag question for those of us who had vaginal deliveries- how are you healing up? I'm at the point where I can wipe more normally, instead of having to spray/pat. But I'm still bleeding (MUCH less- and OB said many bleed until the 6 week PP visit so I'm not concerned) but honestly... the wearing pads all the time is SO irritating!!!!!!!!! My downstairs are itchy/irritated where the pads rub the wrong way. Three weeks of wearing a pad is way more than I ever would like! Anyone find something that's safe to put on to ease the irritation? Anyone else experiencing this?

@kjpugs: I'm not itchy or irritated down there but I'm 3.5 weeks out and still have blood when I wipe, but not enough to need a pad anymore. I am so so ready to be done bleeding. Every time I stop bleeding for a day or two DH and I get all excited and then it starts back up. Why is that? I'm ready to get bizzay lmao

@kjpugs: I'm down to using panty liners, but yeah, I'm ready to ditch the pads. As for irritation, I changed pad brands and the irritation went down. And yep, I'm ready for sexy time.

Y'all. I am in shock. LO slept almost SIX hours just now! And the only reason I woke up was because my boobs felt full - we had to get her up. WTF. I never set alarms to feed her at night because she always wakes up. I feel bad she went that long without eating & I know it isn't good for my supply.... But man, was that glorious!

@kjpugs: I am just over 4 weeks PP and have been barely bleeding so am using panty liners. My bleeding ebbed and flowed quite a bit depending, in my opinion, on how much activity I was doing. I think I healed pretty quickly and haven't used the epi bottle in awhile (I only had first degree tears). Hear you though...the pads suck!
So Alex was a great sleeper three nights ago and the last two nights he's been waking up every 2-3 hours. I am wondering if he's going through another growth spurt or if this is the new normal, because there is a normal for infants, right? Sooooo sleepy!!!

@kjpugs: I'm barely bleeding anymore. I almost thought I could go the whole day without bleeding, but that didn't quite happen.
LO. Didn't sleep her best last night. She slept just not in an easy way like she has been doing. Of course, DH had to go to work today. At one point I came to the living room because he was getting up in 4 hours. We were up when he left at 5:15. Then, at 7 am I was changing her diaper and she shot poop straight out about 8 inches all over me. So, lovely start to our day.

@Jennimac: Projectile poo? I didn't know that could happen. I have been peed on more times than I can count including last night in the middle of the night. Nothing worse than changing a baby's clothes in a sleepy haze when all you want to do is feed them and go back to bed.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Sadieloo: Projectile poop happens a lot in our house. Her farts have major force if her legs are over her head.
Hyla was so clingy and fussy last night. Granted, she had a big day: we went to my office for lunch, the we went to the bike shop and the mall. NOTE: the mall had an awesome family room for feeding and changing! Plush upholstered gliders, a real changing table with pad, and plenty of room to maneuver a stroller. Anyway, by last night, she just would not be put down. I would get her to sleep, lay her down, and five minutes later she would be screaming. Needless to say, we co-slept, and the only thing that calmed her down enough to sleep was the exhaust fan in the bathroom. But once she got to sleep, she slept for five hours, nursed, and slept for another hour.

@evansjamie: wow. Because we have projectile pee, maybe Alex is sparing me from the poop (he is totally going to poo on me now). I've have been amazed already at how loud his farts and poops are for such a little guy.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@evansjamie: and @Sadieloo: yes!!! Projectile poop! Legs were over the head and the timing was just right. I was peed on on Monday when we got to our other house. I was feeding her and then started feeling something wet all over me.
Our sleep was bad last night too. LO was so clingy. Right now she is napping in my arms. : /

We had a bad here as well. Arthur would wake to eat, and then fuss for almost an hour before he went to bed. He would be up within the next hour to eat again. I was lucky to get a hour of sleep between feelings. I had to wake DH for the 5am feeding as I couldn't take it anymore. I'm sure I'll pay for waking him later today.

@TFrances: He can suck it up for one feeding is my thought. I wake my husband for the last diaper change before the alarm goes off. Husbands shouldn't grumble, these are their kids too.

@Evansjamie: Ugh! I know! It's his kid too. Even if he is working full time, I work 24 hours a day. I'm just not looking forward to grumpy DH when he gets home from work. Hopefully his projects and big meeting goes well. Those should take the edge off.

Just got back from a mile walk through the neighborhood. I am tired, but so excited to hit the mile mark. Pretty soon I hope to be able to walk to the library and back (2 miles) with baby in stroller. It felt nice to get out into the fresh air. It also helped that today the high was 72. Lovely weather and a lovely stroll!

@TFrances: I hear ya on the waking DH stuff. Our arrangement is that I do all the night feedings but he has to wake up "early" (for him- since he gets home around 1am from work) at 8am to watch Effie when I'm back at work. He's great when he's awake but his sense of urgency is SERIOUSLY lacking especially when getting up. Half the time I end up doing stuff myself because he moves so slowly! It kills me.

Those who are breastfeeding or pumping and feeding like me- how has your diet changed? I'm trying to get a LOT of protein like the LC said, but end up with a lot of carbs because I don't have time to cook. I'm avoiding red sauce, spicy foods, gassy foods (like my fave brussels sprouts!), and chocolate. I still eat chocolate sometimes (I like mini chocolate chips in my greek yogurt to cut the taste a bit) but I am HATING avoiding the red sauce and spicy foods especially! I like my chicken spicy and I really like pizza. Like right now I am too exhausted to cook anything and would love to just order a pizza. Urg.
Also E has been really fussy/gassy lately so I wonder if it's her formula, or my breast milk- something i"m eating, etc- or just normal baby stuff? URGH. I hate the not knowing what's bothering her.

@TFrances: That's great! I went for a couple of walks today as well, it is always nice to get out of the house, especially for caffeine
@TFrances: @kjpugs: I hear you as well. Hubs gives A a bottle right before we go to bed, so I can get as much sleep as possible. I still do all the nighttime feedings since we are primarily BFing and only using 1, maybe 2 bottles of breast milk. I can't wait until we start using more bottles, although that means I have to pump more which I find pretty annoying.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: No kidding. My goal is 6 months to last with this exclusive pumping business. Luckily my supply is steadily increasing- no reason I shouldn't hit 6 oz today (I started out getting 2-3oz) so that's great. But there is NOTHING WORSE than waking up during E's big night wake up, having to feed/change her, and THEN spend 30 minutes for prepping, pumping, and cleaning the parts. That extra half hour sucks. BUT I get my best output then (around 4 or 5 am) so I can't justify not!
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: I've heard different things about diet and gas. Some are convinced that what you eat really impacts babies and others feel its all hogwash. All I know is that A was farting up a storm last night and the only thing I ate with fiber was oatmeal with raisins. I had pizza tonight so I'll let you know how that works out. I hear you on the gas though, have you tried the gripe water yet? I think you were part of those earlier convos, but can't remember.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: yep! Gripe water has really helped but not 100%. I also try to rub her belly and sometimes I can kind of feel gas move like an upset stomach when I'm holding her and touching her belly... so I know she's at least a little gassy I wonder if gas is always from what they eat or if they can just BE gassy.
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: Wow - 6 oz.?!?!? Is your increase just from practice? I am EBFing and the most I get is 4 oz. I would love to get more so I can really start a stash That said I think my flange may be too big. How often do you pump? I finally broke down and bought more bottles to fit the pump for the exact reason that I don't want to be washing stuff all the time.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: (I'm under the impression that that's not great, since babies eat 20+ oz)
kiwi / 726 posts
@kjpugs: oh man! that is tough. I am really impressed that you are sticking with it. (I hope that isn't insensitive of me, I know how stressful BFing has been for you). But seriously, way to stick with it!!!!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Sadieloo: I figure as long as i can handle it, i might as well give her the benefit of breastmilk! but i agree, its a lot. if i can do 3 months i will be happy. 6 = thrilled!

@TFrances: I walked the mall and went to Walmart the other day and I couldn't believe how tired and sore I was at the end! I've run some long races, and somehow I thought I would bounce back from labor like I do after a long race. After four weeks, I'm just now starting to find my stamina coming back and I'm sure when I start running and doing Barre I'll feel even more tired.
@kjpugs: My diet has changed for the worse and I'm trying to make it better. My dietary restrictions were lifted as soon as I gave birth, so I've eaten a lot of baked goods and carbs and it's awful. I'm trying to eat better this week and get closer to my GD diet again, but with more calories because I get insanely hungry when I nurse. Also, way to go on the pumping!
@Sadieloo: I tend to think what I eat can cause her to be gassy. The days I have more caffeine, I notice that she's fussier than usual. I guess little miss is caffeine sensitive like me. And the day I ate Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower, she was super, super fussy.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@kjpugs: the only time ie had probs with LO and my diet was when I ate raisin bran and a fiber one bar in the same day and when I had a spicy sushi roll. I've not noticed chocolate having an impact on her and I drank a coke every few days so she is used to that. I usually pump once or twice a day and I get 1-2 oz per boob per pump. I feed LO every other time on the boob. LO gets 3 oz in a bottle from daddy. Next week, when I'm solo parenting for the whole week, I think we will see if she takes a bottle from me. I'm going to start feeding her a bottle in the evenings in the hope that we really feed her well and she sleeps. Last night she kept waking up because she was hungry so much.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Jennimac: We tried the bottle tonight, it was a big fat fail. We'll keep working on it.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: Are you doing anything in particular to try to increase your supply? I'm pumping after each feeding & get about 1/2-3/4 oz each time. LO nurses & then gets a 2 oz bottle of formula/BM, so I'm estimating my total supply is somewhere in the 13-14 oz a day range. I'm taking fenugreek, drinking lots of water, etc but I don't feel like it's working. My LC told me religious pumping that drains my breasts should eventually establish a decent supply but it sure is exhausting trying to get there!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@daniellemybelle: I'm drinking lots of water, pumping after a hot shower, and pumping every 2-3 hours (less at night, and more during the day). Haven't tried fenugreek yet- want to see how my hospital grade pump helps. They said it would arrive yesterday... Then today... Still haven't gotten it. Grrrrr.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: Are you still using the Ameda? I rented a Medela Symphony & while I still haven't found the right flange fit, it's so much better! I have noticed drinking hot tea & using warm compresses while nursing / pumping helps too.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@daniellemybelle: still using the Ameda until my hospital grade Medela arrives! It better be tomorrow.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: I bet your output will be way better! You are such a trooper. I hate this nursing / pumping / supplementing nonsense.
In related news, I just read that Benadryl is recommended if you want to dry up your supply. Guess what my hospital gave me 3 nights in a row to help me sleep? I'm furious.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: RE the Benadryl: LAME. I can't believe they gave you that!
@kjpugs: You are a trooper! My friend had great success building her supply with the hospital grade pump. I hope it comes tomorrow!
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@evansjamie: if not I am picking it up since they're local!
And you guys... I did it... 6.4 oz today! That's HUGE for me! Check out my chart (I love this dang app)

@daniellemybelle: that sucks!! I read that about ibuprofen too, do I'm stopped taking it for my hip pain, which is actually doing better.
@kjpugs: way to go!!!
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@kjpugs: Awesome!
@Jennimac: Really? I couldn't find anything that said that online but Benadryl is apparently widely known as a drug that will dry up your supply & is recommended if you are trying to wean,
