Last night was one of our better nights though LO's sleep is still not as good as it was. She went down at 10 & woke up at 11, but a quick nursing session got her right back down. She slept until 3:30 which is a good stretch for her! Then she woke back up at 5:30 but instead of nursing I send DH in to change her diaper & put her in the swing. She went right back to sleep until 8:30. I hate using the swing as a crutch but I figure if she does most of the night in the crib we are making progress!
Show of hands - who is rocking/feeding to sleep as opposed to putting down "drowsy & awake"? Honestly I don't mind rocking her to sleep - she's only little once! But everything I read says if they learn to fall asleep on their own it helps them STTN.

@daniellemybelle: I'll be 29 in October, so while it is soon, I'd really prefer to have a 2 year age gap or close to it. I just have to convince my husband of that. He says we can have another when we have more money, but we're doing well now and I don't see why we should wait.
He knows that I'd prefer to stay home full-time, but I crunched the numbers and it would be really, really tight on one income.
I just didn't expect mommy-shaming to happen in my own home. I'm still pissed at him. I feel like the worst mommy in the world because I went to work.

@daniellemybelle: Hi, my name is Avivoca and I rock/nurse my child to sleep. I agree, she's only little once, and too soon she's going to be independent and not need me anymore, so I'm happy to do it.

@daniellemybelle: i I turned 34 on Wednesday and I don't think we are considering another one until she is at least one. I have to wait or I should wait since I had a csection. We will stop at two.
Eta: we rock/nurse to sleep!!!! And have a PACi!!!! Also, I'm down to preprepreg size, but my body shape is weird. Bf is helping my body lose a lot, but I look really weird in some clothes. I'm not worrying about working out until she is older though.

@TFrances: @daniellemybelle: @avivoca: I'm the fattest here, wearing 18's and some plus size clothes. I had some from before I lost the 50 lbs pre baby. I was 220 and got down to 170 and then got pregnant. I'm around 194 now I think? I'm doing a dietbet and eating really healthy right now.
TTC, we decided that if our situation is the same/better financially we'll start trying in November. I'm 28 and he's 31. We'd like to have a few kids so we want them closer together. Definitely don't want 3 or more years between them.
And I had the absolute worst night with LO last night. She woke up SCREAMING at 1 or 2 am. Bloody murder. So as I heat up her bottle I check her feet/hands (all my hair loss who knows if one got wrapped around a finger or toe) and it's fine, so I check her diaper. Almost nothing. But since I opened it I figure I should change it. Cue her peeing ALL OVER her entire Merlin. The only Merlin we have.So then I have to dig through the PILE of laundry to find her sleep sack. She slept miserably and I am SO. TIRED. Still don't know why she was screaming bloody murder. She usuaully doesn't get back up til 4. I can only assume teeth. Oh and did I mention post eating at 1 or 2 she stayed up for an hour just hanging out. THE WORST.

@kjpugs: Lady, if I could stop by with a large coffee for you, I totally would. H has been getting up tons this week, and I think she's coming down with her first cold too.

Eh I nurse/rock/paci and last night she slept for nine hours. I personally think you might as well do whatever works for you and your LO. Will we have to change this routine at some point? Possibly. But she might also decide to change it on her own. Right now we all happy and sleeping great, so I have no desire to mess with that!

@avivoca: @Zbug: thanks guys. She's being so cute today that it makes up for it! Darn babies!
Oh and I sort of rock to sleep. I feed her for the night in the dark and usually she falls asleep while eating (this is on my lap.) If not, she gets a paci and stays on my lap until she falls asleep. I was just thinking yesterday "at some point that has to change when she's bigger, right?" Eeek. Hope I'm not setting myself up for issues!

I don't usually rock to sleep, but then again Arthur has been sleeping in his crib since day one. We just made the decision to start there. It was hard in the beginning especially since his room is at the other end of the apartment, but I didn't want to buy a bassinet. This week I've started putting him in his crib for naps and it seems to be working well. Often he's drowsy, but awake when I do it. It doesn't always work, but hopefully soon it becomes his routine.
Overall, I think we all find our own way of doing things to keep everyone happy. Our babies will eventually STTN in their cribs. It just takes some longer than others... Don't sweat it!

@kjpugs: lo slept horribly last night. She woke up, ate, and wanted to just hang. All night long. We have to go to our other place tonight and I have nothing ready. Nothing. Not looking forward to a boring drive when I'm already exhausted.

@singingbee: @kjpugs: Your girls are such party animals Sorry you've been losing sleep!
We got a crib wedge to try to help S sleep better in her crib but I think it was a big fail She keeps rolling down & ending up totally horizontal with her head right up against the bars. And I don't think it's helped at all. Kids are such money pits!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that rocks to sleep. I'm rocking S back to sleep after a wakeup right now
It seems like the Oct 13 crowd is going to have little siblings sooner rather than later! It will be bittersweet when you all move on to your new DD boards. We are not in a huge rush for #2, and honestly I am scared of having two! I don't know how those of you with older LOs do it!

LO slept the entire way to our other house. It was glorious!!!!
She slept pretty well last night and my boobs were super painful this morning when I got up. We got up at 4 to eat and then she fell back to sleep until 8:30 ish. Not too bad. I've switched to another pump flange size and I think it is better. I didn't see a difference in pump output, but my nips weren't as sore.

And now for some positive... What is the best/cutest/most amazing thing your LO has done this week?
Arthur started laughing the other day. Before he has been smiling, talking, cooing, and a bit of laughing in his sleep. But I hadn't experienced him actually laughing. This morning was a huge laughfest. Apparently I'm super funny looking while singing. Love the sound of baby laughs!

Yikes it's been a long time! I'm back to work so not spending too much time HBing these days. I hate hate hate leaving my LO to go to work but I'm at a point in my career that I'm about to advance to a higher level. DH was laid off (his company got acquired so we knew well in advance) and he got a new job with a promotion so no complaints there! That means I could stay home but I'm torn because I'm up for a promotion in a few months so I really should stick it out. But oh the mommy guilt. And it's so hard to leave her!
I'm sorry, I'm completely complaining about my first world problems here.
My LO who STTN since a few weeks old is now waking 2-3 times a night now that I'm back to work. Joy.
@daniellemybelle: We are TTC this summer! If DH had his way I'd already be knocked up again lol
Alright, now that the snow has stopped we're off to Target to pick up some things. Hopefully I'll get to catch up with this thread tonight. ya Mamas!

@ladybee: Cutie!
H has her first cold . She's a trooper though, she's generally sunny unless we are sucking the boogies out of her nose. She laughed for the first time the other day, and there is nothing better than baby laughter! I can't wait to hear more about how everyone is doing!
watermelon / 14467 posts
H had her first cold this weekend, and while she generally has been a trooper, today she decided to wake up and party at 4:45. No problem, it's snowing and my office is closed, so I thought I'd get a chance to rest. NOPE. My husband is now home sick, and he really can't do anything when he's sick because of his diabetes. So now I've spent my morning running around taking care of both of them, pumping for tomorrow, feeding pumped milk today (because it was thawed from the freezer and I didn't want to throw it out). I just sat down and ate a snack. This afternoon will be more of the same. Oh, and it's snowing, so I can't get out.
Hold me.

@avivoca: Ugh, I'm sorry! S is sick too She has a stomach virus she just can't seem to kick, but thankfully she's been sleeping fine & in high spirits. She started laughing over the weekend & it kills me every time.

@daniellemybelle: Oh yuck! Tell Miss S that H and I hope she feels better soon! H also started laughing and it is the cutest thing ever!

If your LOs sttn, do you pump? I haven't been bc sometimes DD sleeps all night but sometimes eats around 2. On the one hand, I hate pumping (esp at night!) and feel like my body might as well regulate to what she is doing anyway. On the other, I'm scared of hurting my supply! (I understand if you have low supply, you should definitely pump at night but I think my supply is probably average.). Thoughts??
watermelon / 14467 posts
@Zbug: I only pump at night if I'm feeling uncomfortably full and H isn't showing any signs of waking up. That's only happened a few times though, the most recent at Christmas. I have to say, pumping at 3 a.m. is not my idea of fun.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@avivoca: oh no!! Hope H feels better soon AND your hubs for that matter! @daniellemybelle: S too!!! That stinks!
Jealous of your laughs! E was on her way- making the motion and breathing fast/smiling but no real giggle noise. Teething has apparently taken that milestone off the table right now!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: H is on the mend. She was a real trooper, but let me tell you that she is NOT a fan of having her nose suctioned. My husband is doing much better, but still pretty pathetic. He was complaining about being tired from waking up a lot the last two nights. I'm biting my tongue about that, since I happen to be the one who hasn't slept a full night without wake-ups since, oh, February.
I hope E's teeth come soon so she gets back to her sunny self! I feel like H is on her way to it with the amount of drooling, chewing, and fussing that has been going on.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@avivoca: what kind of nose suctioner are you using? I was using the bulb from the hospital and she HATEEEEEEED it. Finally I decided to brave the nose frieda and it was AMAZING. She still didn't love it but she didn't freak out crying bloody murder either!
persimmon / 1355 posts
@avivoca: thanks. Agreed. And when I pump on the middle of the night, I have a terrible time falling back asleep. I usually wake up uncomfortably full but decide that I'd rather deal with it and sleep than get up and pump. Or else I wake up bc my nursing pads are full and I'm leaking. Maybe my problem is actually laziness.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@kjpugs: I'm using the hospital bulb because it's awesome, but I want to get a nose frida. I'm waiting for the money to start rolling in again before getting one since I had to wait until my maternity leave was over before paying my hospital bill for H.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@Zbug: mad support... pumping at night was THE WORST. I hated it. I know lots of people who don't have issues not pumping overnight though so I'm sure it's fine!
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@Zbug: If LO sleeps all the way through, I get up and pump around 2 or 3. But lately she's been waking up around then so usually don't. I have low supply so that's why I do it, but honestly even in my low supply FB group, there are a lot of moms who don't get up to pump & they maintained their supply. If you feel like your supply is fine, I would get your rest! If you feel like there's a noticeable dip, you could probably bump it back up with power pumping & oatmeal/lactation cookies/etc.

I know this is a little silly, but I'm sure you all understand. I have to leave S for two nights in a row this weekend Friday night is my book club, and Saturday night DH & I are going on a fancy date that was my Christmas gift. I am really worried/sad about being away from her at bedtime, so much so I am considering skipping book club! Please tell me she won't forget I'm her mom.
apricot / 286 posts
@Daniellemybelle: I promise she won't forget you! Us parents need to take some time out for parenting every once in awhile. We need to de-stress and be with just adults. Have fun at book club and especially on your fancy date with the DH (wish I had one of those coming up!) and then go home and cuddle with your LO.
pomelo / 5073 posts
@daniellemybelle: no way! I was worried LO would forget me when I went back to work and every day I pick her up, she grins ear to ear and I know she knows who I am.

@kjpugs: mine screams bloody murder with the Frieda or the bulb, but I love the Frieda. The amount of snot we can suck out is amazing.
grapefruit / 4862 posts
@daniellemybelle: I have similar yet different mom guilt. For E, nights are the worst. It's honestly like the minute our nanny leaves at 5, she turns. She's seemed fussy lately because of teething to I asked her at 5 today if E was at all fussy. She said no and how she's NEVER fussy for her and is so good. (it's true- I NEVER hear her cry with the nanny!) And just like every day, right after she leaves, E totally turns. It makes me feel like she hates me I know she is so great and smiley with us early but I just get so little AM time with her, that it makes me sad, like she dislikes me. I told our nanny that I wanted her to sit one night and we could see if she was herself and "fussy" or if she just was truly never fussy for her! Early on in my time with E I said I could never be a SAHM but now that she's easier (I think at 3 months it became WAY easier!) and more scheduled and fun... I wish I could spend every minute with her
It SUCKS.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@daniellemybelle: Hugs! She won't forget you! I thought Hw old forget all about me when I went back to work, but she smiles so much once we get home.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
@avivoca: @kjpugs: @singingbee: @TFrances: Thanks for the reassurance, friends. Unfortunately S is a bit of a mommy monster... I had DH try to put her down last night & she screamed for a good 10 minutes, so I came in, nursed her more, and then handed her off 90% asleep... And she screamed another 10 minutes before passing out I am almost considering not going to book club tonight...
Many of you mentioned that you went back to work & your LOs still adore you (of course) so I feel a little silly making a big deal out of a short separation but I think it's harder because bedtime is always just me & her.
Speaking of work, though.... I QUIT MY JOB! I haven't breathed a word here because you never know who reads this. Everyone I talked to said they weren't surprised I worked like a crazy person before - 70 hour weeks on the regular - so there was no way I could return. Unfortunately we can't afford for me to stay home full-time so I am looking for something else, but I am soaking up every minute with my girl in the meantime.

@daniellemybelle: OH. MY. GOSH!!!!!!!! That's AWESOME! So glad you're focusing on what's important. I know you'll find something better that's a great fit for your family and your skills!

@daniellemybelle: I just talked with my boss yesterday and I'm starting to look for a new job. I'd love to stay home with Lucy, but we can't afford it either. My boss is helping me look though (I know it sounds like a weird situation, but we're a really small company and I've been here four years, so we're all pretty close) and thinking I'll transition out sometime this spring.
In other news, Lucy finally slept a five hour stretch again last night! Followed by a four hour stretch. Sweet. I was so engorged on one side though by the time she woke up for the morning, it was a relief to nurse!
persimmon / 1355 posts
@abbylyn: yay! It's so nice when they finally do long stretches. I used to wake up super engorged, but I think my body is adjusting and it's not too bad now. I'm scared about possible 4 mo sleep regression though!
@daniellemybelle: congrats!
